Hi Steven, Thanks for the video, it is most helpful. It is really helpful to see all the steps to painting the door and the strategy you used to ensure good coverage without overlap. Especially helpful was seeing the brush, roller, brush method you used for each of the panels and the turpsy rag to ensure that the paint for the panels said in the panels. Thanks 👍
Job done! Very nice and really nicely explained throughout the process. I did two coats of gloss as my undercoat was cream not white so showed through a bit... all I had in the shed and B&Q was all out of undercoat.
JH, appreciate the video. I'm out in Chicago, IL and had to repaint a warehouse metal exterior door. The previous paint contractor said he used an industrial enamel (glossy and oil based). I've painted with latex and can roll a wall, but it's hard with the oil paint! Turns out the paint contractor actually meant flat paint... As after the first coat of glossy, you could tell it wasn't right. Must be an EU / UK thing glossing up doors!! I might have to stick with latex or a hybrid. Oil paint has got a learning curve
Oil based paints is what i was taught with back in the day, i use a lot more water based paints these days, Oil based paints are getting phased out over here slowly.
Absolutely phenomenal job Mate! I'm painting my entry doors a dark chocolate and I want them to shine like your glossy black does.. the key to the shine is the right tools.. the hardware sales clerk sold me rollers instead of foam rollers.. and he also said I needed to prime which I wasted money! at any rate it's going to turn out beautifully I'm sure of it because yours did! 🤩
Do you recommend using paint thinners or is paint straight out of tin good, bearing in mind I'm just an ordinary guy with no professional paint experience. It's January and very cold in London, do you advise using dryer chemical?
@Adi Osa I used a water based undercoat, it is johstones aqua undercoat, i waited about 4 hours on a hot day before i glossed the door, could of been glossed sooner.
Laying off” wet paint involves using gentle strokes to redistribute the paint in a more uniform fashion. From cross hatching to vertical and horizontal variants, the direction is up to the desires of the painter. Still, the ultimate goal is to “feather” the paint so that no visible marks remain when it dries.
I’m a painter for 32 years nice to see you do it professionally
Thankyou very much brother of the brush
@ I miss the good old days of Permoglaze shame it’s gone since 2010 gloss and undercoat isn’t the same
Times have changed, a lot of good water based undercoat and topcoats. It took me a while to convert, I am fully converted know lol.

It's a shame. They're still the best gloss by miles.
We'll have to start getting 2 pack poly from bodywork shops

Thankyou Very much, The key to a good finish is a good undercoat.
Key to shine is thin layers of equal film thickness and good weather/heat
Thanks - took ages to find a sensible painting video
Thankyou for watching.
Would I need to do anything differently for interior doors? Old house, they are all solid wood and glossed. Thanks for any help!
There are good water based systems, just make sure to use the undercoat before topcoats. feel free to ask for advise, if i can help i will.
Thank you very much! 😊

Wait until the better weather comes is my advise bud.
can u mix water based undercoat with oil based top coat and how long did u wait before the top coat ?

What did you paint the frame with? Bitumen and a knife?
lol
Did you gloss the door frame and step also?
Yes, it was already painted.
Use a mohair roller sleeve and owatrol oil mixed into the paint. Glass finish, You won't look back
Thankyou for the tip.
What does laying it off doo

JH THORN . I will buy a set when i am next at the merchants.
@@Inexteriors or contact factory in Wooster, Ohio.
@JH THORN Can you buy bulk from the factory.
Put the roller down and just use the bloody brush !
Lol
Can i do gloss or sheen paint on my front without using primer and which paint brand is good ?
No, the undercoat forms the base.
