This is seriously the only helpful naming tutorial that I’ve seen. Everybody just tells you to be creative but doesn’t actually give any tips. Thanks for the help!
The amount of people you respond to in the chat is amazing! I'm just barely starting to respond to people in the RUclips comments on my videos, and learning the power of it. Thanks for making these videos! I learn quite a bit from them!
I think another thing to think about with usernames is accessibility - including leetspeak and number substitutions makes your name much more difficult to recognise for less internet-savvy users, non-native speakers of your language, and anyone using text-to-speech!
Been using JaySkott for a while & I like to think it worked with your video. Short, sweet, & easy to just go by Jay. Another tip I would add is making sure the first 6 characters of your name are unique if you can. When you get affiliate your emote prefix on Twitch will always be the first 6 characters of your username unless it’s taken, in which case it will follow the prefix with a number. Being “GamingGodKiller” might be cool until you realize your emote premix is now ‘gaming529’ I got extremely lucky that ‘jaysko’ wasn’t taken. Your videos are always super helpful! Thank you!
@@StreamScheme haha thank you! Feels great coming from you. It's an (albeit weird) nickname for one of my cats that I just yanked over to the internet.
after you made the bootyyman69 joke a show that was loading finished loading and said "mankind is on the brink of extinction" and i thought it was an edit until you started talking again and it kept playing. lol
The username I wanted is gone already and all variations that were remotely acceptable are also gone.. Super discouraged right now.. But thanks for the great video again

watching these back now and the point where you research and realised it was you all along who owned the original account, I am writing this laughing out loud, oh man been there done that!
I honestly don’t remember when or how I got the name I use right now (BongoToucan) but it seems to fill out most of the criteria in this video and I’m almost entirely sure that I’m the only one that uses it. It’s not restrictive in the content I could make, it’s reasonably simple and I’ve found that it sticks in people’s minds because I’ve had multiple people question me about what a mix of a bongo and a toucan would be like, and it isn’t a one off thing that they mention, it’s brought up a few times over time
I know the pain of trying to find a decent username. It took me over a month when trying to rebrand to find a new name. To those looking for new names: you can find inspiration from the most random things in life, when at a wall just take a break and do something else to get your mind off. You might be surprised what you can find.
Been using mine since the Xbox 360 days. It’s lengthy, but it’s also easily abbreviated to Badger, which I don’t mind at all. Just glad I’ve never had to create new ones
"Make sure it is pronounceable" well people say my name wrong and it is literally made from 2 words that are very easy to read and names of well known things.(I didn't make it cause of those things just that 10 year old me thought it sounded cool and I liked the name Rex as a dog name.)
I watched this as I already have a username im happy with so was intrigued to see if I hit a lot of these needs and am happy to say I do! Makes me glad as I'm normally terrible at naming my socials! Eldegold, if anyone was interested 😁 amazing vid by the way and thanks always for the content!

I have had such a hard time picking a username and have changed it so many times. Right now, I'm going for LisaMachine, but haven't set up any channels just yet.. Would like your honest opinion on the username. I'm not feeling confident about it, but maybe that just always going to be. Tips?
It's not a bad user name, and I can think of some fun branding making you a robot and what not, but at the end of the day you being happy and confident with it is important. Have you tried the generators? Or have other ideas?
My username always gets a laugh when I follow a channel, used to be my military nickname but changed it to Skinniestfatman after a while as I wasn't too keen on my first choice. Everyone shortens it once they get to know me in chat so I'm either skinny or fatman
Fourth link from the top will give you a page that has heaps of different generators on it :) We wanted to provide options, the one in the video is on the page as well.
I had "Foxy" For the longest time back when I was a kid because I was obsessed with Foxy from FNAF and mentioned it every chance I had -,.,- Username tip I would give: It doesn't have to be completly abstract, you can use a name that haves something common in it, if it holds meaning for you or if it sounds cool or cute with the rest of the username. My username is made of two common words and yet it sounds nice. About my username: Muffin is a name I had for a very long time, and back when I met my boyfriend he said one of the main reasons he was interested in meeting me was because my username was cute, so it holds a soft spot because if I didn't have this name maybe we wouldn't have met. The shy part is something about me, I am introverted and shy and well it looks cute when you mix Shy and Muffin (I mostly only use ShyMuffin for gamertag and Muffin for social media but in cases like youtube I use ShyMuffin) It is also easy to remember and I can be called both Shy or Muffin. Which are both cute and easy to say.
My twitch username is the same as on here: ughlygirl. It's a pun on "ugh" but most people don't get it and I have to explain it to them. I'm worried I'm driving people away because they're thinking "I don't want to watch someone who's ugly." Is this a legitimate concern or am I overthinking it?
I agree with eljay, you're overthinking it! I think your username's great, and you even have it in your icon lol Some new viewers may miss it, but I think it's very memorable, and will be easy for your returning viewers to come back to imo
Yo can i get your thoughts on Badmouth? This has been my tag for like 4 years but now i want to brand around my personality (just chatting and variety streamer) and i dont feel like it suits my personality. Am i overthinking?
Tough to say if you’re overthinking, I don’t know your content so I can’t tell if it fits. Overall, it’s not a bad username, it fits well with something that’s easy to remember, it’s unique as well. Tough to say though on if it fits you.
i have mostly 3 usernames uncausedunicorn as my main, nekroz if i could not use uncausedunicorn due to letter restrictions and if both are unavailable i have used possessed as a username
Great again! Question: I'm planning to start streaming more on Twitch as an extension of other marketing for my podcast and business because mixing business and fun sounds like how I want to run my company. So, do you have any safety tips for someone whose name is incredibly easy to find?
@@StreamScheme also do you have any recommendations on how to grow my stream I don’t really want to stream other games besides the ones I normally do bcs im broke. I mainly stream fortnite and used to have ttv in my name and I got to like 300 followers, then I got in a game with Hamlinz and I got to 1000 followers from that. I went down to 930 followers and am not gaining any. The only way I can promote my stream right now besides promoting myself on discord servers politely. If you have any tips for me please let me know. It’s probably important to mention that I got some reason changed my name multiple times after that Hamlinz event. I’m going to save up for things like lighting, a better webcam, etc. so if you have recommendations please let me know. Oh ya and I also average 1 viewer who I don’t think is even a real person
@@clapperonies2495 you need to have a RUclips channel to promote yourself. Also, it's going to be really hard to stand out if you play Fortnite or some other online competitive game. Try to find trends and FREE online very popular games and make videos of your stream's highlights. Also, learn how to SEO optimize your title to gain traction.
Just a heads up! I checked my username and noticed that tiktok wasn't marked off, even though I definitely have it and the link. www.tiktok.com/@kingartsie If you need your username for tiktok, be sure to manually check it!
I always use WizGuardian for all my accounts but when I started trying to stream I felt like the name didn't fit. I don't know if my nickname is easy to read/spell it...
@@StreamScheme I try to use the generator but it not fit for me .-. I even try to use my name in generator but nothing good... since couple months I have been thinking about what name is suitable but I still haven't thought about it until now because I have been using the name wizguardian since 7 years ago.
I've been considering getting into streaming again and even though I've had the name "StarkTehShark" for years, I feel like it's very brand limiting with the shark part plus I feel like it's too long. I've been trying to come up with a new name and I came up with "ItzStream" (like water flow) and just wanted to hear if you think it would end up being confusing / a bad name?
I’m personally not a fan of either honestly, they’re a bit tough to remember and feel a bit generic. Sorry about that! I do prefer the shark one to the new one though. Sorry thats no help!
@@StreamScheme Hey, so it's me "StarkTehShark" and I came up with this new name which I quite like, I personally find it short, sweet and easy to remember and at the same time a Nickname could be Jib, I'd like to hear your thoughts? :)
This is a great help. Thanks for sharing! I can tell my username can be a bit of a mouthful, but it is important to me and I have no plans of changing it any time soon.
I'm a bit late to this comment section lol--just wanted to say that I've binged a few hours of your videos now and I'm just. Floored. By how helpful it's been to get someone who doesn't say the same five words of advice. Seriously, kudos to you dude. Also wanted to ask if you think the name Calikova isn't too complex/wordy if you have the time to give feedback! Keep up the good work either way!!
I know that this is an "older" video now but how is my name "Ringocos". It comes from two of our cats we've had and has been my username for a while now. Only problem i find is maybe the pronunciation and the "Cos" at the end might make people think that im a cosplayer. If you have any help with this it would be greatly appreciated!
Great video! I chose my name as just a collection of syllables I liked and it's apparently hard to pronounce for many streamers? :D Probably because it's not an existing word and they're afraid to say it wrong but oh well. I like it and since I don't plan on becoming a big twitch streamer it doesn't really matter.
"hiver is a bit gross" french speakers: ☃️👁️👄👁️☃️ seriously tho your video was very helpful, and it reminded me that i need to look at how everything would be pronounced by normal english, because when i see hiver i read "eve-air" which sounds a lit different than "hive-er"
atm, I am about to get into streaming and thinking of my stream name as AlexSamaAU (at this time I have a twitch account called that and I can get names of a similar design in multiple games) since I'm Alex from Australia and i like Japanese culture, I feel like like that's a fairly good name to go with but I'm not sure, any tips? or is it good enough by itself?
I flipflop between a WoW BC character's name shortened, or WoW Legion shortened version of another character name. Right now, it's either Khay85 or Jugs85. Points to Gryffindor if you can figure out the numbers.
I am not sure how to pronounce it, and maybe I think it could be simplified a bit! It's entirely up to you and your judgement at the end of the day! If you're happy with it then go for it!
Great vid Just one question what do you think about name RealLex? I want to have lex in my name becouse its my nickname but i dont know what Word would be good next to it.
I’ve been looking for a new name bc everyone says it wrong, but when I tried generating stuff there was no clear cut “Nodus” in the sea of crap. Am I just using the wrong words to get results?
See, I made this name when I was young and liked it a lot at the time. Since then, I’ve started streaming with this name and I’ve started thinking that it doesn’t exactly suit my personality (I feel as though the name sounds edgy, but I’m a positive person. My friends frequently describe me as “wholesome” 😅). But I’m afraid that if I change my name, it’ll harm my channel. Let’s say I decide I wanted to change my username to something that fits my personality more, would that be a bad decision to do so, or would it be a good thing to do?
Depends how much a following you have, but I also don't think your username defines you at all. I know a guy called Reapz with reaper logos and such, but is positive, kind, and a legend on stream.
I’ve used a bunch of account names, my longest being ADirtyHobo77. I found that that one is hard to accurately tag for RUclips hahah. Some of my others are Crisiskiller77, MasterBaiter77, and who could forget the greatest COD name being Longus Dongus. What classics!
Hello. This is an interesting topic... I have been known under a name ElJay too In different many communities on discord and twitch... I first came with the name when I was super young (I am 20 now) , it has a meaning behind, it's the first letters of real name and surname.. (ElJay - LJ) Now when I have grown up I realise that MANY people have a really similar name... I have ALWAYS wanted to stream too and build a gaming community under this name on twitch, but I haven't really saved for my own gaming setup to actually stream... Does that mean I should think of a new name, even tho people know me by this name OVER the years? I also checked your twitch clips and you seem like a chill guy. All the best of luck to you in your streams ❤️💪
Entirely up to you! What a funny coincidence by the way! I think at the end of the day the name won't help too much on Twitch even if people have known you by it, I've always been Eljayem but it didn't boost me at all or line up with my other socials to be easier.
@@StreamScheme yeah... There are some socials that I Just couldn't use ElJay as a username too, usually I added 360 to it, for the numbers, like I have on twitch (eljay360). Somehow I was able to use ElJay on RUclips, even though there are a lot of ElJay's out there too! Never understood how it actually works... If I changed a name on twitch... Yeah Well the people who follow me (all 7 haha) they would probably think who is that, since I haven't really streamed before that much, only couple test streams, when I tried the Twitch streaming platform, I think it was called Stream Labs, I am sure you know what I am talking about. So yeah... I usually pop in the community streams, meet new friends, and they have been knowing me by the name, but not exactly by the face since I never used webcam before (that would be nice, but I am still trying to get over being so shy. Being in the communities and Voice Chats have really helped me overcome the fear of me talking to strangers and that way meet new friends). I have always been a fan of gaming since very young age, and never had my own setup, My dad is a gamer too, and we usually shared the gaming PC. Not recently I Moved out, with my boyfriend, so I hope the future will be bright and I will be able to finally buy my own gaming PC in the future ❤️
would having like a certain character in your name be a problem for future proofing... like my twitch name is almighty togepi, which obviously is pokemon related but would the hinder my future like i wanna play league and other games on the channel so would it make it a problem ]
I went with luuniaa, I was originally going to have lunia but its mostly taken. The name i go by is loo, I combined it with luna and changed the letters in loo to u since it still sounds the same. and I think its pretty cool.
My twitch name for my first two months of streaming (Nov 2020-Jan 2021) was Micrs0ftw0rd and it was awful for a streamer. It was funny when I was a viewer and the streamers would always get a kick out of reading it in chat but I made the decision to change my name once I hit affiliate and honestly, best decision I made. That fact that I made affiliate at all with that name is amazing lmao. It is kinda funny though 'cause I have a bunch of people in my community that call me McSoftie because of my old name. It's a nice little inside thing I have with them! As for the name now, Tomas is my actual name then TDE stands for The Dank Engine. Figured I lived with those jokes my whole life why not embrace it!
I have two usernames I use for everything. I like Novastitous. It’s like a combination of Super Nova, and Superstitious. Novastitous just has a ring I love. But sometimes, games or apps will block it because novasTITous is inappropriate. So on those cases I use CosmicCowling, this keeps the space theme, but also uses part of Full Cowling from My Hero Academia. I went through this video, and I was glad to know my usernames fit all of these marks.
I'm on my personal account right now, but I'm curious to get some feedback on my current name/theme. My handle is KainDrago. It's based off of two of my favorite characters in fiction. Kain from Legacy of Kain and of course, Ivan Drago. My theme is the Kingdom of Kain. My intro isn't hard written yet but the rough draft is essentially we share the kingdom, so be good to each other and let's have fun. And my "ranks" are royalty based. Duke, Earl, Lord and Lady, that sort of thing. My new dynamic scene collection is medieval looking. The background looks like a stone wall and the motion cuts for scenes are flames. The pre stream and BRB/break scenes have some royalty free medieval sounding music at a comfortable volume. Thanks one and all for the input!

You're overthinking it :)
I agree with eljay, you're overthinking it! I think your username's great, and you even have it in your icon lol
Some new viewers may miss it, but I think it's very memorable, and will be easy for your returning viewers to come back to imo
@@kingartsie9962 Thanks for the reassurance! It's very helpful to get an outsider's perspective :)
@@StreamScheme Whew ok good, thank you!
Ughlygirl is cool!
Tough to say though on if it fits you.
wow you are very active in the comments
I reply to every single person :) If they chose to support me or engage, I think it would be rude to ignore them!
i have mostly 3 usernames uncausedunicorn as my main, nekroz if i could not use uncausedunicorn due to letter restrictions and if both are unavailable i have used possessed as a username
I've always been bad at sticking with one, let alone having backups! hahaha
4inchpounder
Great again! Question: I'm planning to start streaming more on Twitch as an extension of other marketing for my podcast and business because mixing business and fun sounds like how I want to run my company. So, do you have any safety tips for someone whose name is incredibly easy to find?
My Twitch name is PartTimeToaster, I’m not sure if it’s good but I think it’s pretty catchy
I quite like it honestly hahaha
That's a great username, fun to say out loud and memorable lol
I’m going back and forth between Hulkmojo and EV2, any advice on which is better? Or more memorable?
Hulkmojo is probably more memorable and easily shorted, but EV2 can be nicknamed to EV. Up to you and your content at the end of the day!
Alright thanks for the advice!
Mine would be Lord Heart:
My first name means lord.
My surname means heart
But ATM I use Tenkai. It is taken a lot
Seems fine to me! It really is the content that matters at the end of the day!
is "foteki" a good username for games or platforms like origin, steam, and ubisoft?
Do you like it? If so, it is great! :)
@@StreamScheme or I should find a better one?
@@الحقمنالظلال Not at all, as I said! If you like it then that is most important!
@@StreamScheme ok thanks, what if I don't like it that much?
@@الحقمنالظلال just try another
I’ve just always used Baysidegalaxy23 because that’s what Xbox gave me when I first signed in and I liked it
Love a classic Xbox generated name! They were actually great often!
Do you think PolarPrey is a good username? I made my channel based on polar bears and I thinks it’s quite clean
Seems fine to me :)
I checked my username and noticed that tiktok wasn't marked off, even though I definitely have it and the link. www.tiktok.com/@kingartsie
If you need your username for tiktok, be sure to manually check it!
Good shout!
I would like some opinions on SerenityScratch? I like my username but I feel like it can be too long?? What do you guys think?
Not bad honestly, it is a bit long but its better to be long than have numbers and such.
@@StreamScheme thanks for the advice!! I’m looking for ideas to shorten it actually
Mine used to be xxlittlemissjemmaxx 💔💔💔 it is most definitely not anymore
The reminders of the early 2000s internet usernames!
thank you very much keep te good work !!
My Twitch is “L4ama” right now do you think it’s a good name?
Seems fairly solid! Short, sweet, easily remembered, and people can easily say Llama when talking to you.
How do you feel about Unholy Qabalist? I been using it since 06 and started streaming under the name
When I was 8 I used to be called "Golden Watermelon"
...
Well.... maybe not every nickname is a winner!
😂
i got specifai in the generator, should i use this as a base and if so what ideas do you have to change it?
Entirely up to you, after a bit it’s whether or not you like it!
@@StreamScheme im also thinking maybe like specifyed or something along the lines of that
Hungmonkey69 🤷🏾♂️😂😂
Amazing hahahaha
I always use WizGuardian for all my accounts but when I started trying to stream I felt like the name didn't fit. I don't know if my nickname is easy to read/spell it...
Any luck with the generators?
@@StreamScheme It's all good, I prefer getting feedback that I can actually use, than people telling me "what I want to hear". :)
@@StreamScheme Hey, so it's me "StarkTehShark" and I came up with this new name which I quite like, I personally find it short, sweet and easy to remember and at the same time a Nickname could be Jib, I'd like to hear your thoughts? :)
Thanks for the guide, it helps alot.
This is a great help. Thanks for sharing!
I can tell my username can be a bit of a mouthful, but it is important to me and I have no plans of changing it any time soon.
It seems fine to me!
@@StreamScheme Thank you for that!
Glad you like them! Calikova seems fine to me, everyone will either call you Cali or Kova but that is a great shortened nickname!
My ideal name needs an underscore at the end but I got rid of all of the underscores in the name itself. great video!
Thank you very very very much for this great video! It really helped me find a new name for my Twitch account.
Nice video keep it up!
Probably because it's not an existing word and they're afraid to say it wrong but oh well.
I like it and since I don't plan on becoming a big twitch streamer it doesn't really matter.
Ive gone through 3 and gotten CoveIcy, I like it but i want your opinion on iy
Seems fine to me :)
"hiver is a bit gross"
french speakers: ☃️👁️👄👁️☃️
seriously tho your video was very helpful, and it reminded me that i need to look at how everything would be pronounced by normal english, because when i see hiver i read "eve-air" which sounds a lit different than "hive-er"
atm, I am about to get into streaming and thinking of my stream name as AlexSamaAU (at this time I have a twitch account called that and I can get names of a similar design in multiple games) since I'm Alex from Australia and i like Japanese culture, I feel like like that's a fairly good name to go with but I'm not sure, any tips? or is it good enough by itself?
I flipflop between a WoW BC character's name shortened, or WoW Legion shortened version of another character name. Right now, it's either Khay85 or Jugs85. Points to Gryffindor if you can figure out the numbers.
Eljay what do you think of DDuaneT?
I am not sure how to pronounce it, and maybe I think it could be simplified a bit! It's entirely up to you and your judgement at the end of the day! If you're happy with it then go for it!
Great vid
Just one question what do you think about name RealLex?
I want to have lex in my name becouse its my nickname but i dont know what Word would be good next to it.
I think it’s quite good!
is 2xClay good? Im not sure cuz the 2 is the beginning
It's a bit weird with the 2x at the start, I think simple is better!
I’ve been looking for a new name bc everyone says it wrong, but when I tried generating stuff there was no clear cut “Nodus” in the sea of crap. Am I just using the wrong words to get results?
when i was younger i really liked pickles, so i called myself pickle sucker. nobody stopped me because i wouldn’t have understood why it was so bad.
Ive had Trixos for a while but ive just started on twitch and its taken. I have no idea what to change it to.
Any ideas come from the video?
@@StreamScheme Yh thx your vids are really helping me out ill check your stream 😀
Thanks for the advice MM ;)
@@StreamScheme Thank you for the help! Honestly, that gave me a lot of reassurance, keep up the great work, you’re a ton of help! c:
I’ve used a bunch of account names, my longest being ADirtyHobo77. I found that that one is hard to accurately tag for RUclips hahah.
Some of my others are Crisiskiller77, MasterBaiter77, and who could forget the greatest COD name being Longus Dongus. What classics!
Ahhh the beautiful days of not caring! Thanks for giving me a laugh mate!
Hello. This is an interesting topic... I have been known under a name ElJay too In different many communities on discord and twitch... I first came with the name when I was super young (I am 20 now) , it has a meaning behind, it's the first letters of real name and surname.. (ElJay - LJ)
Now when I have grown up I realise that MANY people have a really similar name...
Not recently I Moved out, with my boyfriend, so I hope the future will be bright and I will be able to finally buy my own gaming PC in the future ❤️
would having like a certain character in your name be a problem for future proofing... like my twitch name is almighty togepi, which obviously is pokemon related but would the hinder my future like i wanna play league and other games on the channel so would it make it a problem
]
I went with luuniaa, I was originally going to have lunia but its mostly taken. The name i go by is loo, I combined it with luna and changed the letters in loo to u since it still sounds the same. and I think its pretty cool.
luunia
Would be perfect.
There ya go then! hahaha
is username iffi_master is a good name? bc im now with it like.. 1yr and idk if i should change it
Up to you! If you've grown a large average viewership and are happy/confident in it then up to you!
@@StreamScheme thx m8
Would Ttv_DarkPrior or DarkPast be a good username?might try GeoMystical or GeoMysticism
Don't usein any kind of *ttv* in your name. That makes it bad.
Hey I like your banner how did you make if
5:30 the same thing happened to me and I got do annoyed when I found out
I'm on my personal account right now, but I'm curious to get some feedback on my current name/theme.
I got my name from a designation of a OC that I made years ago. Which is the only reason the numbers are included. Cuz it pertains to the character
It is still a good idea to drop the numbers for a brand :)
