2005 Chrysler 300 2.7L V6 Spark Plugs and Plenum Gasket Replace

- I want to share this video about changing spark plugs and plenum gaskets on a 2005 Chrysler 300 2.7L v6 engine. I forgot to mention that you should change or clean out the PCV valve because it is almost impossible to get to when the plenum is on. You might also want to double check the torque specs for your own piece of mind, I torqued mine to 7 1/2 ft lbs. Make sure you get the metal egr tube in the back on correctly without tearing the rubber washer, it's tricky. You might want to take the egr tube off from the other end at the exhaust manifold so you don't bend it.Thanks For Watching. Jeff

Hi I would like to thank you very much. This video helped me a lot step by step. It was my first time changing my spark plugs. I called a auto shop to see how much they'll change it for. They charge $380.53 at their auto shop. I only spent about $20 at autozone and some of my free time. Thank you once again for doing this step by step video.
This worked just great when I did my first spark plug and gasket replacements! Great tutorial keep more coming for Chrysler 300's!
Straight and to the point. Awesome video

i have a misfire on 3, is going to be a task. I'm planning on changing sparkplugs and coils, thanks for the video
This is my video but I no longer have access to make changes. I wanted to share a bit more info which may be helpful, it comes from the repair manual.
REMOVAL
2.7L
Always remove the ignition coil assembly by grasping
at the spark plug boot, turning the assembly 1/2 turn
and pulling straight back in a steady motion.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the intake manifold, (Refer to 9 - ENGINE/
MANIFOLDS/INTAKE MANIFOLD - REMOVAL).
3. Prior to removing the ignition coils, spray compressed
air around the coil area and spark plug or
contaminates from spark plug tube..
On 3.5L engines, it is necessary to loosen the screws
by alternating back and forth. Do not lose the spacers
under the coil when loosening the screws.
4. Remove the ignitions coil.
5. Remove the spark plug using a quality socket with
a rubber or foam insert.
6. Inspect the spark plug condition.
REMOVAL
INTAKE MANIFOLD UPPER
1. Disconnect negative battery (1) cable.
2. Remove throttle body air inlet hose and air cleaner
housing assembly (3) (Refer to 9 - ENGINE/AIR
INTAKE SYSTEM/AIR CLEANER HOUSING -
REMOVAL).
3. Disconnect electrical connectors from the following
components:
Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor
Electronic Throttle Control
Manifold Tuning Valve
4. Disconnect Vapor Purge hose, Brake Booster hose,
Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose.
5. Remove manifold support brackets (1).
6. Remove manifold attaching bolts.
7. Remove upper manifold (2).
8. Remove foam insulator (3).
9. Inspect manifold (2) (Refer to 9 - ENGINE/MANIFOLDS/
INTAKE MANIFOLD - INSPECTION).
Jeffery K pcv valve is located where..plz help
super helpful video. thanks for making it!
I did this process & it was very easy besides the bolts on the side, I ran into a problem with the weather that changes very quickly in Missouri! So i quickly put it back together & did a test run but of course since i did it quickly i might not had it shut right so it makes a sound of leaking air which i will wake up early tomorrow before work & redo it!
Great video, thanks for uploading it. Very helpful
The best part was when the camera guy said "action" in the beginning of the video
That was my Son. R.I.P Kris
Thank you so much hopefully this saves me $ 265 tomorrow.
Success! Changed them with no problems

Great video well detail
There are two ring gaskets when buying the plenum gasket... i know one goes on the egr valve tube that connects to the plenum but what about the other ring where does that one go? If u can help I would really appreciate it sir thanks

It’s amazing how easy these cars are to work on
annoythedonkey Really ? 😭
Kimberly Lily yeah really if I can do it anyone can
annoythedonkey Thanks for the motivation ~ I can do this 😰
Kimberly Lily what’s wrong with yours ?
Kimberly Lily join the FB group the magnum mafia and look Jay up he’s a guru on these cars he walked me through a couple major repairs that I didn’t think I could do.
Very good video. Thanks!
I know I could have done a few things differently to make it netter but many people get the point and it has saved them money. Thanks
great video..thanks
Make sure there is no air leaks at the plenum where the gaskets go. Do this by spraying carb cleaner around it and see if the engine will smooth out. If it does you might have misaligned the gasket or you don't have the plenum tightened correctly. Also make sure all the electrical connectors are back in the right place and connected. One more thing is you may have gotten a bad spark plug but that's rare.
Thanks a bunch guy your video help me big time
Your very welcome. Glad I could help.
Thanks really helped me
Your welcome. Could have been a little better here and there but it works.
Whats the name of the tubing that is behind the plenum cover? Mine broke but idk the name of it
Good job . Thx
Glad I could help. Hope it saved you some money.
How did you remove that one air hose in back
What causes oil to build up on the top back end of the plenum? The part that curves into my throttle body is oily
i own a Chrysler 300 2007 touring 3.5 engine v6 my car is showing a 1004 code would this process fix the check engine light being on
Hi I am having problems with the gasket leaking. I just bought a brand new one looked under the hood and it was leaking. Now my car doesn't crank. It make a weird noise when I try.
Yes, I'm about to do this over the weekend and wanted to know how I would remove that metal tube that's behind the throttle body or does it just pull out...lastly in regards to torque specs. Do you know the specifics? Or should hand tightening and the one additional ratchet to snug em in do the job
Muy bien
Gracias por compartir
Bendiciones
Adelante.
I changed the spark plugs, load coil, and fuel injector but still getting a misfire at the same location! What else could it be?
What would happen if I did this job without disconnecting the battery because now my car is idling high
throttle sensor been replaced but they say I gotta reprogram the new to the car .. How do I do that?
@4:35 there is a greyish pole part that has a black thing at the tip.. looks like something that goes with the etc electronic throttle control... what is that called
thank you very much sir
I’d like to know the purpose of that foam under the plenum. Mine was so bad that it was crumbling. not even foam anymore it was just mush like a grease.
gracias por enseñarnos y tener pacienza
Hey budd, im trying to remove the intake manifold and the throttle body on my dodge charger 07 2.7liter and it looks exactly like this engine here to the teeth. @ 1:36 in your video the metal tube coming out from the throttle body, how did you get it out of there cause I dont see any screws or anything it just goes in there. This problem is starting to discourage me. Any advice?
Do u got to replace the intake rubber when u change your spark plugs
Thx for the video! I have a 06 with a 3.5 that need changing, everything looks the same. Auto shop bastards want to charge me $570 bucks to do it!
I hear ya. My son and I did the job for under 25.00.
Oh my god, thank you sir
Thanx for the info , I was a little nervous at first but it's as simple as you explained . just one thing how do you remove the plastic piece with the hose attachment that sits under the cover on the far left corner ?
THANK YOU SIR!!!
This was very helpful!
Do you have a video on how to replace the EGR sensor??
This Video was great. I have chanaged all of the plugs and still have a misfire. I did see that one of the plugs came out with oil on it. Is this because I need to change the spark plug gasgets or is this a faulty head gasget. With the coil having so much oil built up on it should i have replaced. Would this affect the idle.
Thank you!!!!!!
Thanks for the video. How much more work is it to replace the lower intake manifold gaskets?
Jackson Cruz not much after youve taken off the top
very nicely done. One thing is you should get a long handle ratchet.Never remove (spark plugs) or any other bolts how you removed that first spark plug.Just not a good idea because you can bust the old spark plugs ,which leaves chips of thew ceramic laying around the plug, when you remove that plug it all goes right into cyl and can cause major issues to rings, piston tops, cyl walls and even bust new plug tips up.Just never a smart move to hit ratchets that way, it can strip things also.Very nicely done otherwise!
oh yea better be changing that timing chain/guides/tensioner/water pump every 70-80k plus find a cam chain save kit to put on it in case cam tensioner goes out it wont snap your cam chain and bend valves, just a cam stop bracket but saved a few 2.7's I've serviced/repaired
You remove the metal heat tube once you get all the bolts out of the plenum. Just take your time and wiggle it gently as to not destroy the rubber grommet on the end of it. The tricky part is putting it back in, that's where you really need to be more careful so you don't break the inside of the plenum where that tube will rest. If you have a second person to help you guide it in that will be a plus. As for tightening just bring them down until your comfortable but don't over tighten.
How u take off the air tube
Magnets are awesome
Last question, I promise do I absolutely have to replace the plenum gasket or is that optional
This process should be the same on a Dodge Charger 2.7V6, correct? Also, where did you get the rubber attachment to pull out the spark plugs if the ratchet doesn't hold on to them?
Help I have slight vibration now that i changed the spark plug
My chech engine came on, the codr stated misfire from cylinder 3. I've changed my cylinder 3 ignition coil out and replaced spark plug. When i started car it seem like it got worst, this time it even started to make backfire noise.
CartDogg number three is under the intake manifold in the middle, it also might be the ignition coil connector
Thank 👍👍👍👍
Hey I just changed my spark plugs today following your video but once I started my car back on it shakes now .... Specially when I take off
Would you happen to know why? thanks!
+Saul Luna Make sure there are no leaks around the plenum gasket by spraying some carb cleaner around it. If the idle gets smooth you have a air leak and need to re tighten or remove and make sure they are seated correctly. If that is not it check all the wiring you removed when you did the job and make sure everything is in it's place.
Chignon 👍
Your welcome.
do you know where the pcv valve is? Thank you
+Nathaniel Puno It's behind the plenum on the passenger side and it's hard to see or get to before you remove the plenum, but once you have it off you will see it easily.
What happen to the sound?
it help my Machanic😁
2:50 it’s backwards .. you want to start loosening your bolts evenly starting from the inside working your way to the outer bolts .if you start on the corner the corners lift which will crack your manifold . If you start in the center the corners are held tightly and once you loosen the corners it will lift evenly with no damage .
Yes it will be the same. You can get the rubber boot off an old spark plug wire end.
Fyi I needed a screw driver to help pry off the connection n hoses n the erg tube on back. The tube on back use a flat head screwdriver n pull at same time with intake loose, comes off like butter.
Hi bro,plz help me out, I have 2007 Chrysler300, 2.7L v6,It was over heated and its water pump was gone and water and oil was mixed became milky oil.I replaced the new water pump and checked everything is fine nothing damaged, only water pump was broken, the water pump is new now but it's not starting :-(more than Three times open head and reset the timing chain, but didn't start the engine, don't know what's wrong with it.!Plz help me out.!!!
+Md Furkaan Your head gasket is most likely blown. Your going to have a real job on your hands at this time and if your not experienced enough your gonna have to take it in for the repairs. It's going to need to have the heads taken off and find out which side blew so you can get that head milled, (shaved down). You should replace all the hoses at this time wile it's all apart. Change the timing chain and check the gears, spark plugs, anti freeze and all the gaskets you will get when you buy the head gasket set. Change the oil and filter. When you first start the engine after your done it may smoke like hell for a little while because you will most likely have oil and anti freeze in your exhaust system.
Thank you so very much man,I have beefing suffering, man I'm out of country now, next month I will fix then I will text you when I will start fixing, thanks once again man,
Kind regards
Ken.
I would go ahead and replace everything under that intake manifold might as well it's all remover and also removing the window cowl easy pizzy up and easy for EGR valve, tube, PCV valve
It has a bar all across in the back does that have to come out as well
I believe your talking about the heat tube. No that does not have to come off but just take your time to ease it out and put it back into the plenum. If you did not start the job yet I would recommend getting the new rubber grommet for that tube just in case, and a new foam gasket for under the plenum.
Its a metal bar ....and ok thank you im almost done taking out all the bolts n hoses
Rafael Martinez Ok good luck. Just make sure you wiggle that metal tube out slowly.
Is it the same on a 3.5
Should be. If your plenum looks the same and the air intake looks the same it should be fine.
There is no sequence to loosening the intake bolts. Only during tightening.
did u have to remove the Neg. cable?
Yes.
I didn't remove the Neg. cable now I have Electronic problms
Where's the pcv valve on this car, please help
On the back side of the intake. It's connected from valve cover to intake.
Yes. You can get them from eBay for just over 7 bucks.
I always put in what came in from the factory.I install Champions in Chryslers only.
How do those damn wire connectors on the throttle body work
I too am having trouble getting those off. I tried them with the red slider in both positions to no avail. I also put enough force on them that I was afraid they were going to break! What's the secret?
Slide the lock toward the harness and then press the release tab.
You hear the roofer working lol
Im watchingg thizz carefully. I'm gonna be doing my mom's car and I need. To maske sure I do this job perfect
Sorry I took so long to write back but you remove it once the plenum is unbolted. Just wiggle the plenum while pulling and twisting on it but do it carefully.
Do i got to get new gasket
+Hitman Dz Yes. Get the plenum and the intake for sure. If you want to and I would, get the foam pad under the plenum to.
+Jeffery Hunter
ok thanks alot.
I changed mines just like this but I lost the blue rubber thing at the back of the plenum on the air hose and now I have a check engine light I'm sure tht seal is the culprit :/
That is the culprit. Your gonna need to get that on there.
+Jeffery Hunter actually no problem solved see what happened was o didn't disconnect my battery prior to doing this so when I started the car the throttle light came on and car ran on limp mode which in turn caused my engine to run lean so it there a p0507 code after resetting light and code came back I drove it around town for more than 20 mins on 4 different startups and the code cleared and car is driving better than ever!!! So I guess I dodged a bullet there (pun intended) lol but thanx man great video none the less could have avoided my situation if I wulda just disconnect the battery to begin with
Well MrGreg, you must not understand the meaning of reverse the process to put it back together. It's very simple.
