Fact Check! SG5-Although the website states 64 I/O, it is actually restricted to 48 I/O. I still don't think this is a massive issue if you are mixing from stage, as I can see very few bands needing that many ins and outs! And if you do, I suggest you pay someone to mix off-stage! 18 ins/outs can blow my mind while playing on occasion! CQ20B-Unfortunately, unlike the Qu-Sb, and despite having a network port, this can't be used as a stage box! This makes this unit even less useful than stated, so I would definitely go with the CQ18T. If you want a unit in rack format, go for the QU-SB-even if its app is not the best!
I may be wrong, but I believe you can get 64 I/O with the additional Dante card! Even so, I doubt many bands are going to be mixing 48 channels from on stage! Haha As for the CQ, I didn't know that! I assumed it would work as the QU-SB does, that's a bit less useful if that's the case!
@@GaryOnBass The SQ5 is a 48-channel console, meaning that no matter the amount of I/O expansion connected, there are only 48-channel strips available. So, for example, even though the Dante card is 64x64, you could only receive 48 sources to individual channels. The reason for the Dante card being 64x64 is that some of the higher channel count consoles (Avantis) use the same Dante card.
Touchmix 16 just might be my next go to mixer, I have only recently entered into the digital era and purchased a secondhand presonus 16:4:2 desk , great mixer old school but I think is a good introduction to digital, in all honesty very slow on moving from the analogue era ,
Thanks Gary I'm here in my own music study right now delving more into frequency, I hate theory but I may take something from all this relate it back to my presonus desk and put into practice, to tame my 935's 😊 but I have taken a lot of solid honest advice from your clip here and even though I now use the old presonus I will check out your recommendations, another desk I was on the brink of buying prior to the presonus with advice from a qualified sound engineer with the INEC Ireland was the Behringer producer , but the price I did not have at the time and then the fact I was new to the digital era
The presonus is great! I'm sure it will do more than enough for what you need and its super tactile which is great for those new to digital mixing! The one thing to remember with EQ is if it sounds right then it is right! Its great to have loads of known frequencies in your back pocket but if something sounds better boosted/cut at a different frequency then that's the one to go for! There are far too many variables for specific frequencies to always be right/wrong!
Thanks Gary great advice, I'll keep this in mind when I use an empty location tomorrow and start from scratch , if you don't mind me asking you in regards to vocal effects on the presonus this is where I feel I fall down also ,moving from analogue the Dynacord 5/55 effects setting on my CMS 1000 never changed even with the band I like reverb and delay on my vocals ,but the presonus has me baffled as to what to use , too much reverb and delay can really destroy a performance, I was told to use the tap function for delay ,but honestly I don't have time to be tapping in between songs especially if the floor is full , hang on folks 2 seconds till i tap in the delay timing 🙂
@TheFendertak I havent used the presonus in a while but I can't imagine the settings are too dissimilar to what your used to! I think if your using a lot of delay with long tails then I would always tap it in! We are a three piece with backing tracks so I actually have mine synced to the click so I dont have to tap it in! If your using a short delay for fattening then tap tempo isn't as much of an issue! Again there's no real hard and fast rule here! I wouldjist go with what you feel works for you! When your on stage the nuances can matter far less as long as your putting on a good show!

Ui24r 👍🏻
Such a good value mixer! Do you use it?
Nice video, but the SQ has 48 channels, not 64. Also the CQ cannot be connected to SQ.

@JonathanT.Nelson ah good to know! I havent ventured into Dante too much! Thanks for the detailed information! 🙂

The presonus is a great first step! They are really good desks! The Allen and Heath CQ and Touchmix both make mixing super easy!
Thanks Gary I'm here in my own music study right now delving more into frequency,
