Why Play Bass Guitar? - Free Beginner Bass Guitar Lesson
Would you use one of these for acoustic guitar and vocals outside and inside?
Yes, you could definitely use one of these as a single speaker for acoustic and vocals! I have used these for this quite a few times! You could run directly into the speaker too, as long as you use a DI for your acoustic. But I would definitely recommend using a mixer or something like the TC Helicon Voicelive, to get some effects and EQ on there! I’ve got a video on mixers and the Behringer Flow would be an ideal option for you!
Hi I use the "mini" version of the mark bass you reviewed (mb58r mini cmd 121 pure) as a monitor behind me but I think I need to add one more external cab because 300watt could be not sufficient in my gigs. For the PA I use a classic sansamp. Nice video, greetings from Italy 😊
Hey man, I love Italy! Beautiful country! You can’t go wrong with a Sansamp, either! Markbass make some great amps, especially the combos! I’m surprised a 1x12 doesn’t cut it, though! I went for the 15” here as it’s got a bit more low-end for supporting PA! I imagine you’ll just want another 1x12” cabinet? I’ve got a custom-made Zilla Ported 1x12, which I have only ever been asked to turn down! It’s a pity Markbass went back to all the Carpet for the MB58R cabs!
@GaryOnBass if I can, I will buy the cab version, with the same name. For now, I use the combo at home and for little gigs / clubs. Bye :)
@fermotramaglino great man!
Do you use a combo on gigs or head and cab? Let me know below!
FBT ProMaxx 114A.... No contest for power and clarity! B&C Drivers! Lightweight!.....All in a 12inch cab!.....I have had the EVZX5A and High end RCF's and these are unbeatable for a plastic cab.....Made in Italy!
Yeah that's a fair shout! FBT make some great speakers and the added DSP and upgraded drivers make that a great shout! Its just the plastic cab for me though! The X-Lite series are great for the price too! I do wish FBT would stick two side handles on their cabs though!
@@GaryOnBass Think the X Lites are made in China!....
@jm252 Yeah, most definitely for that price! FBT makes some great cabs, though. I am thinking of buying a couple of the Ventus 206A with some 12” subs!
If you use the supplied cable you don't have to run a cable out of your bass, up to the box and back down to your pedal board. You just run the one cable up the the Backbeat and plug your board right into the special connector. Seems pretty logical to me.
Yeah, that will definitely work. I do worry about having extra weight on the jack like that, though. I can see it opening up quite a few P-Bass jacks, which is common enough already! My main reason for needing the different plug, and possibly others, is that my bass has a recessed jack socket, which means the Backbeat jack doesn't fit, so I had to swap it for the straight jack! Either way, though, if it works, then it's all good! I'm just pleased that they did give an option to pass through the back seat, as that wasn't on the initial design and would have counted me out!
@@GaryOnBass Man, the supplied cable IS a piece of crap!! I took it out today and when I put it in it is super flaky. I'm tossing it into the trash!
@aaronl7669 I’m sorry to hear that! But at least it’s a really easy fix!
I’ve just purchased a pair of RCF 932’s waiting on delivery but now looking to purchase a subwoofer to complete my little set up, I’m leaning towards the 705.
These would be a great pairing! 🤟
Good fun watching you shop from over the pond in the US. Would love to see what you would pick out in the $20k range?
I'm glad you enjoyed it! That would be a interesting shop, I think I could put together a good size rig for that amount, but it would be a long one! Haha
Great review. I use wired iem into Behringer P1 which connects directly into bass amp. Could the backbeat replace the P1, and run the earphones from the backbeat allowing me to hear and feel what im playing? Looking for an individual solution. band not interested in iems😢
Ah that's a shame! IEMs are definitely the way! I did the exact thing and replaced my P1 with the backbeat! The input is a 3.5mm TRS Jack so you will probably need to adapt! I talk about how I do it in my IEM video! 👍
@GaryOnBass thanks Gary. Much appreciated 👍
I decided to buy the Alto TS415's and a TS12 Sub. So far so good. They must have had way to many high end blow ups on the TS3 series which I did purchase and returned right away after reading all of the issues with high end failures. I also own QSC CP12's and those are also great. Used them a few times then decided to give Alto another go around when they came out with the TS4 series and so far I like them. Plenty powerful, 450 Watt RMS high and 900 Watt low RMS isn't anything to overlook! I think as long as the gain source is set properly they will last a long while.
That's good to hear! I've lost my trust in Alto I'm afraid so they will have to do a bit of work to earn it back! I find the QSC speakers just a bit too harsh!
@@GaryOnBass which alto’s did u have? I see a lot of qsc’s up for sale on fb marketplace. I’ll keep mine for a while longer for smaller venues. But ur rt, they do sound a bit (different) but hella loud.
@DjSmoothNY I had a pair of TS212 which were loud but I wasn't massively impressed with the sound. The person I sold them to had them die about 6 months later! So I'm not sure they made it far past a year old! I think QSC is reliable and load but just too harsh for me!
@@GaryOnBass Ah ok. QSC can definitely use a bit more high end but nothing eq can’t fix. CP12’s sound better to me than K.12’s. Far as Alto I totally understand. I’ve got a couple gigs coming up and I will use the TS415’s again and I’ll post a video or 2. I figured out how they made the improvements. 2 ohm going to the tweeter and 4 ohm to the woofer. Pretty smart. I’m optimistic this time around bc when I had got the TS3’s I returned them once I read the reviews about blowing up tweeters so I didn’t wanna risk being at a performance and have my shit blow up. lol.
@@GaryOnBass Btw, I used to be a Mackie Thump fan boy for decades
To be honest the latest Alto TS4 series is fantastic for the price and they match boxes double their price
I think I'll have to get my hands on some and give them a go again!
I've had great use out of my many Yamaha DSR/DXS/DXR speakers - absolutely bullet proof and they sound good right up to the limiter. My favourite though was my HK Big Venue Pack using the HK Linear 115 tops - they just kept getting louder and sounded fantastic. If I was still doing live sound I would be investing in the HK Linear 7 gear. Don't do Alto - they were the only speakers I had problems with and I soon moved them on.
This echoes my experience entirely! 🤟 I hope you enjoyed the video!
What lights do you recommend? Let me know below!
Vic Firth Stereo Isolation Headphones V2 (SIH2 Is good for Log time Music play 🤨
The sound good and isolate well. But to get that isolation they really clamp onto your ears! So I wouldn't want to use them for longer than a couple hours! I have done a day of recording with them before though! But they were off and on for that period!
Thanks for the review. Would these work well in a smallish room? I'm looking to get a pair of speakers to use for my private home DJ sessions, and I'll be throwing the occasional party with 20 people max. My main goal is to get the best sounding speaker within my budget, which is 3k-4k for a pair. Thanks in advance bud. 🙏
Yeah I would say they would be great for that! The articulation and separation is great! Probably a little overkill in terms of how much SPL the speakers can put out! But I dont think you'll get a better sounding speaker! You can probably get a sub or two to go with them for that budget too! Which even if you are running on low would make a huge difference! The Yamaha subs are great as are the RCF subs I have reviewed also!
I used to do parties in a very small bar (approx. 40 square meters) for about 30 people with just one piece of dzr12 and birthday parties in a small venue (approx. 100 square meters) for 40-60 people with one DZR12 top & one DXS15 sub. Great sound, without any issues in the past 3 years. It takes up less space, since you stack the speakers on top of each other and you don't have to push so hard the top if you have a sub for the lower range. If I was you with that budget I would buy 1 Yamaha DZR12 with a Yamaha DXS15XLF - around 3 500 €. It would be overkill, but if you want sometimes to have a party outside with friends, it would be great. Or 1 Yamaha DZR10 with 1 DXS15 sub - 2 500 € Or if you stick to the two tops then buy 2 pieces of Yamaha DZR12.
Great to hear some hands on experience! I think I would always grab two tops for stereo sound but your right that its totally overkill in terms of volume! Haha one sub and one too would probably take you up to 100 people in most rooms!
Hey Gary. Enjoying your posts. You touched on the HK Audio PR:O 112 FD2. Could you possibly do a review on it ? For totally selfish reason ;) Thinking of getting a pair as my keys stage monitors.
Hey Man! I probably should! I haven't got any to take out with me at the minute, but I have used these a tonne as monitors! The Little PR:O 10XD are absolutely amazing stage monitors, and I know quite a few keys players who use and love them! Super portable, too!
@@GaryOnBass Thanks Gary. There aren't many RUclips videos on these, but I like what i've read.
@KeysMcGhee No worries Ill do what I can! They are really quality sounding and built speaker for the money! Like I said in the video, not a whole lot of flexibility on the unit but that's why we have mixing desks!
Ui24r 👍🏻
Such a good value mixer! Do you use it?
Touchmix 16 just might be my next go to mixer, I have only recently entered into the digital era and purchased a secondhand presonus 16:4:2 desk , great mixer old school but I think is a good introduction to digital, in all honesty very slow on moving from the analogue era ,
The presonus is a great first step! They are really good desks! The Allen and Heath CQ and Touchmix both make mixing super easy!
Thanks Gary I'm here in my own music study right now delving more into frequency, I hate theory but I may take something from all this relate it back to my presonus desk and put into practice, to tame my 935's 😊 but I have taken a lot of solid honest advice from your clip here and even though I now use the old presonus I will check out your recommendations, another desk I was on the brink of buying prior to the presonus with advice from a qualified sound engineer with the INEC Ireland was the Behringer producer , but the price I did not have at the time and then the fact I was new to the digital era
The presonus is great! I'm sure it will do more than enough for what you need and its super tactile which is great for those new to digital mixing! The one thing to remember with EQ is if it sounds right then it is right! Its great to have loads of known frequencies in your back pocket but if something sounds better boosted/cut at a different frequency then that's the one to go for! There are far too many variables for specific frequencies to always be right/wrong!
Thanks Gary great advice, I'll keep this in mind when I use an empty location tomorrow and start from scratch , if you don't mind me asking you in regards to vocal effects on the presonus this is where I feel I fall down also ,moving from analogue the Dynacord 5/55 effects setting on my CMS 1000 never changed even with the band I like reverb and delay on my vocals ,but the presonus has me baffled as to what to use , too much reverb and delay can really destroy a performance, I was told to use the tap function for delay ,but honestly I don't have time to be tapping in between songs especially if the floor is full , hang on folks 2 seconds till i tap in the delay timing 🙂
@TheFendertak I havent used the presonus in a while but I can't imagine the settings are too dissimilar to what your used to! I think if your using a lot of delay with long tails then I would always tap it in! We are a three piece with backing tracks so I actually have mine synced to the click so I dont have to tap it in! If your using a short delay for fattening then tap tempo isn't as much of an issue! Again there's no real hard and fast rule here! I wouldjist go with what you feel works for you! When your on stage the nuances can matter far less as long as your putting on a good show!
Now Gary that was the best description on speakers most especially when you mentioned bands ,a lot of what you see here on the selling point to speakers is relating to DJ's , before seeing your video here I happen to own the RCF 935A's ,heard all great reviews on these but !! all Dj related views , live bands and singers especially want the warmth clarity and throw from a cabinet to bring the best out from a singer , I'm being told now that I made a mistake on buying the 935's because they are just way too sharp and piercing , how true is this , what's your honest view on the 935's , thank you in advance 😊
Thanks so much! That is also what I have noticed so thought I may be some use! I dont think you necessarily made a mistake, RCF make some great speakers and they will last a lifetime! But they can take a bit of taming on the high end, the extra high end really helps for clarity but can build up over all your instruments! I would have a look through your EQ and see if you can cut some high end on your instruments! But try to leave what you can on vocals keep a bit of air and you should be golden!
Gary thanks so much !!!!!! I honestly was beginning to think last night if I was losing it , so to cut a long story short I was correct , and yes your 100% right here on saying the build up of highs on many instruments could and will make them sound piercing , also definitely need taming I have them running at 2 on the clock on linear DSP setting the Subs Behringer B1500XP 's ok I agree are indeed cheap subs and perhaps these were a waste , reason I got these was just to add a thump to the overall sound , told at few venues I play to turn them down and these are only 15" subs Gary , forgot about the fact on the DSP setting of the 935's I can light up the two green leds, taking out of Linear to BOOST the bass end of the 935's without the need of the subs , and taking on board what you said to do and possibly dial back to 12 or 1 on overall level , I believe there's a good throw from the 935's so maybe I don't have to push them as much , after asking for your help Gary and very much appreciated your time to reply I will go away from the thought of change and give my 935's another few nights on stage and hopefully with your advice I will eventually get to tame the beasts, which to add are beasts , they are an extremely powerful powerful cab and well made but like you said need taming ,just like wild horse LoL , and I think the adding of subs really was no help ,or is it , another night previously a guy approached me prior to starting and said Wow! to my 935's if only I had the money to buy these are actually better than the 945's he said , I replied I myself can't see how, my 935's I'm thinking of selling on , but also Gary this might explain why I can't get to sing with my Neumann KMS 105 because each night I use my Sennheiser E945 over the 105 and it's silent electronic earpiercing sound wave created when I bring up the fader level , so yeah your advice to revert to my EQ settings on my desk could in fact be the culprit here, and the answer I needed, I will definitely come back with my final thoughts both for band and DJ , keep up the excellent service you do ,you have just gained another fan 😉👍
@TheFendertak thank you! I really appreciate that! I think its a fairly common point of contention that some can find RCF speakers overly bright but its much easier to EQ something out then add it in! If you happy with the overall mix and sound then you can always just knock down the highs on the master! I'm actually working on a video about EQ at the minute! :) The subs will only help the tops, those behringer subs look quite powerful! Just make sure that your crossing them over effectively (probably at 80hz) and they should be fine! Definitely watch your input though! I can't imagine you needing more than 12 o clock on the gain in most indoor venues! Let me know how you get on!
Oh don't worry I will , the reason I poked out these subs was through a guy in America that uses both the 15 and 18 but said honestly he advised me go for the 15's as there really is no substantial difference noticeable between the 2 , and honestly Gar when I'm being told most of the time to turn them down why in earth would I go for 18's and even go down the road of buying high-end subs , the RCF's came highly recommended to me and would break my heart to sell them and possibly end up being sorry later , but as your constructive honest pro advice now makes me think twice I will try to tame the RCF's high end 😊
went to a shop to listen to the thump 212XT and 215. was so disapointed with the sound level and the bass even on the 215 which has a larger woofer. for a 700 watt speaker, the loudness is not there and it clips at 3/4 volume level and specially when the bass hits. pffff. i want something which annoys my neighborhood and can play in a room of around 80 pax. dont know if its because of the laptop and youtube which were used to test the 2 speakers.
Yeah, you should 100% be able to get the gain higher that 3/4 without clipping! Although saying that, if you want real bass that hits hard, you probably need a sub! A really good 15" (maybe not the Mackie) will get down there, but you still want a sub if you want real lows and for it to hit! But in this lineup, I am looking at tops for bands that will mainly be running vocals!
@@GaryOnBass oh. am a bedroom dj who also do few family parties and looking for 2 speakers which can provide loud sound and give good bass as i dont use sub. checked the thump 215 also but still no good bass nor loud sound. maybe the way they connected the speaker during testing. they used a laptop connected to a Mackie 2049000-01 Dl32S 32-Channel Mixer Wireless Digital Live Sound and which was connected to the speakers. but still, it should have provided good sound as the amplifier is on the speaker.
@yan5362 my DJ gear knowledge is pretty limited but I have seen the older thump212 do live sound for larger groups with subs without a problem! If your looking for more low-end then I would probably check out something with a wooden box which has been effectively ported! It may get you closer to what you need!
Everse 8 or 12 beat any of those portable speakers
Yeah I can see that being a great shout too! I haven't actually heard or used one though! What makes it stand out for you?
@@GaryOnBass loudness, bass response, effects app, portability, long battery ...everything 🤷🏻♂️
@saint.adrian at double the cost though! Haha they all have advantages in different ways! The Yamaha Stagepas200 is great too as another option!
@@GaryOnBass double the cost is nothing if it's your job...my opinion
What about Harbinger why its not there?
That's a brand they dont sell over here! Possibly a Guitar Centre rebadge? I haven't heard one so I really can't speak on it unfortunately!
What about JBL portable speakers? I would like to know your thoughts about the PRX 900 series. Thanks
A lot of people really rate the PRX series! But for me RCF or Yamaha are pretty unbeatable at that price point!
Fact Check! SG5-Although the website states 64 I/O, it is actually restricted to 48 I/O. I still don't think this is a massive issue if you are mixing from stage, as I can see very few bands needing that many ins and outs! And if you do, I suggest you pay someone to mix off-stage! 18 ins/outs can blow my mind while playing on occasion! CQ20B-Unfortunately, unlike the Qu-Sb, and despite having a network port, this can't be used as a stage box! This makes this unit even less useful than stated, so I would definitely go with the CQ18T. If you want a unit in rack format, go for the QU-SB-even if its app is not the best!
Nice video, but the SQ has 48 channels, not 64. Also the CQ cannot be connected to SQ.
I may be wrong, but I believe you can get 64 I/O with the additional Dante card! Even so, I doubt many bands are going to be mixing 48 channels from on stage! Haha As for the CQ, I didn't know that! I assumed it would work as the QU-SB does, that's a bit less useful if that's the case!
@@GaryOnBass The SQ5 is a 48-channel console, meaning that no matter the amount of I/O expansion connected, there are only 48-channel strips available. So, for example, even though the Dante card is 64x64, you could only receive 48 sources to individual channels. The reason for the Dante card being 64x64 is that some of the higher channel count consoles (Avantis) use the same Dante card.
@JonathanT.Nelson ah good to know! I havent ventured into Dante too much! Thanks for the detailed information! 🙂
How come ALTO not included?
I didn't forget, check 20:14 🙂
I suggest u briefly ,concisely n directly just enumerate all d brand names of PA u would recommend instead of talking a lot which s a wastage of your effort n times ,as well 2 your viewers.
Yes, I did think that after! I know that sometimes its nice to have the reasoning for each choice rather than a random list! I hope it helped!
rcf nx smokes everything in this vid lol
Yeah but they aren't in everyones budget! I really do rate them though!
Hi, any thoughts of HK Linear 3 vs. Linear 5? I can’t find much info online. It is for a covers band with vox, drums and acoustic guitar.
For a pubs and clubs band you should be pretty safe with the linear 3, unless your doing really big venues or crowds then I would definitely lean towards the Linear 5!
Thanks for your reply. I have noticed the Linear 5 dispersion in only 60 degrees horizontal. Most competitors are 90-100 degrees. I’m concerned this would be a major disadvantage…any thoughts?
@davidbee929 I cant really speak on that, but I have been on gigs using the linear 5s and dispersion has never been an issue in any of those situations. It may be more of an issue on very wide/large stages though!
Been using Alto my entire 20 year career. Clean, clear, loud and inexpensive but would not recommend for weekly mobile gigs. They won't hold up under frequent use.
Yeah, I totally agree on all points!
Try db technology es1203 ... 33. Kg for a nice versatile loud speaker
That is something I am VERY interested in! I have found the ES503 really capable for full band so I can only imagine how great the ES1203 would be! I’m also really interested in the FBT CS1000 but haven’t been able to try one yet!
@@GaryOnBass thanks for the video first of all. I have both the 503 and 1203 and really like them. The 1203 is in my opinion a big step up from the 503. The “Tops” in the 1203 is a lot better and the 1203 has two woofers meaning more low end. But they are a lot heavier and not as easy to transport. Did a small “rave” in the woods recently with my 503 and daisy chained 2 SOUNDBOKS and that worked fine 😅 And being able to split the tops (Both 503 and 1203) is really nice sometimes to get a bigger “spread” of the sound. This said im thinking of 2 tops and one or two subs. What sub would you recommend with the audio linear 5 in your video? (and I like a good low end 🔊😃) thanks!!
Thanks for the comment! I really do like the 503 but they can feel a little under powered in the low end! Plus the plastic top connections worry me a bit! The transport is what puts me off the 1203 though! I work in a lot of venues with tight access! Why the swap back to tops and subs? Is it the lack of bottom end? If that is the case and you are playing music with a lot of sub action then I would really look at the Linear 5 118 Sub. If the weight puts you off or you want more punchy low end then the Linear Sub 1500 A is a more affordable and lighter option! I would probably go for four of those under 112A for really large events! But it really depends on how you want to hear your low end! The Linear 5 Big Venue Pack sounds monsterous if you dont mind the weight and price…
@@GaryOnBass thanks for your answer. I agree on the plastic tops 🫣 I’ve hade them for a few years and they still work fine but I think they are going to break every time 😂 the 1203 tops have a more solid connection solution. And the swap is for a little more low end I guess 😊 I will check out your suggestions. Thanks for that
@cfmasta thats good to hear! I do think the 1203, RCF Evox12 or FBT CS1000 are next on the cards but I'm going to wait for namm! Haha You won't go wrong with any of those HK Speakers though, they will deliver more than enough volume and low end for pretty much every gig! I would only go with the Big Venue Pack style setup if your doing festivals or large indoor rooms to big crowds!
I wonder why you mention in the pro level the EV EKX but in the High End only HK. EV as well as JBL have premium series above the EKX. It is called the EV ETX. And they are definitely high end from my perspective.
Good question! I tried to narrow it down to one choice, although there are two choices here and there, to prevent option paralysis, which can be a real issue for me! As for the lack of JBL, I have friends with major reliability problems! Mainly with their power amps. The ETX speakers sound amazing. However, their weight pushed them off this particular list when I prioritised portability.
I can understand your point. Was just wondering cause with regards to EV I moved from my former high end system from a German manufacturer (KS Audio) to EV ETX and got extremely surprised about the high level of performance and quality of sound. My learning is that today most of the big brands like RCF, EV and JBL have their high end line of products and they are very capable. The digital DSPs and the latest speaker development do a great job here. The EV‘s are a bit heavy (depending on the speaker type, I mean I can still lift the 12“ tops on a stand without any help) cause they are powered. But this is meanwhile also a feature I would not want to miss anymore. I was not aware of the issues of the JBL series. Interesting facts thanks for sharing
Yes, this list is very much from my own experience! As I said, when I got to the high-end speakers, there's no real right or wrong once you get to the more expensive lines; it comes down more to personal preference. Having owned and used a few different EV speakers, I find they colour the sound more than the HK, and I like to have the most control possible. But you're completely correct that many brands offer more DSP, or at least more easily accessed DSP. If that's a priority for you, then I would definitely grab the EV or Yamaha options! But really, there are not many bad choices once you start getting into the higher end of PA!
Speakers smaller than 18" cone and 4" voice coils don't do 40hz(bass guitar). Bigger than 10" cones are too directional and too muddy above 1khz and too powerful for compression drivers, so the compression drivers distort and makes peoples ears ring at around crossover. Compression drivers with voice coils bigger than 1.5" don't do above 10khz and distort at crossover. So 2.1 systems are best. Choose bigger for the sub, smaller and multiple for mids and highs. Also subs are often crossed to high and go muddy. So with a normal system, not low enough bass and muddy bass, then directional muddy mids and overpowered highs than don't go high. Dare Audio seems to configure big line arrays properly, check them out. 18" sub with two 8" mids and 2 1" highs. Then 1 21" sub with 2 10" mids and 2 1.8" highs. Then one 24" sub with 2 12" mids and 2...2-3" highs. That is how it should be done, otherwise just get a 15" two way.
There is some really useful information here. However, I was looking for portable tops in this video and avoiding subs. 12” tops are best for this, in my opinion, unless you want to lump around 15” tops, which would give you more low-end! I personally use a few systems and 10” tops over 15” subs most often! As a bass player, I'm not too fond of the idea that bass guitar exists at 40hz. That's a really undefined area that can really blow out the instrument if overexaggerated, which is all too common among engineers. The mids are where bass really comes along and gets heard, and they are all too often given the chop! But this in itself is a generalisation because it massively depends on the music genre and the band size! As with all things music, there is no one-size-fits-all method!
Interesting list. I don't get the chance to see much HK stuff here in the USA, unfortunately, so I can't comment there. Absolutely agree about Yamaha DBR. Decent for the price, best bang for the buck, IMO. However, RCF ART912 and EV EKX12p should be switched on your list....they are the same price here....I had 4 EKX-12p and sold them as soon as I heard RCF ART932...simply far, far better sounding at a much higher volume. EKX also only has 1 handle, which is a pain to carry and lift...always hated that about mine.
That's really interesting! I would have thought that the prices would be similar or further apart being that EV is made over there! RCF make great speakers all round! The EKX are far too heavy for me!
You're a dj ?
I’m a musician and this list is aimed at people playing live music!
Does anyone know why the 12 and 15 inch versions have significantly lower RMS ratings?
I'm not entirely sure, but the wattage and DB rating mean fairly little, and I would focus more on the frequency graph. I can only imagine that the 12” and 15” versions are louder than the 10”. This can be seen in the amount of each frequency they can effectively produce.
Dear Gary. My apologies if this question is out of the context of the above video subject. I am also a QSC Touchmix 30 Pro user since it came out a few years ago. About a year plus, ago, i bought the Presonus Faderport 8 fader controller , to have actual physical faders & more knobs & buttons, to mix the Touchmix 30 with. Do u have any experiences with this Presonus Faderport 8 with regards to controlling the Touchmix 30? Till today, i just can't get the Faderport 8 to work at all with the Touchmix 30. In the QSC website, it says that the Faderport 8 is compatible with the Touchmix. I have contacted Presonus & they replied that they do not know whether the Faderport 8 is compatible with the Touchmix 30. I also have contacted QSC about this but unfortunately they never responded to my queries till today. 🙏🙏🙏
Hi there. Thoughts on: EV ZLX12BT JBL IRX112 RCF Art 312 Wharfedale Typhon AX12BT Lower end Wharfedale Titan 12?
Do you need something with Bluetooth? I noticed that most of your choices have that! I have had friends who have had issues with the lower end JBL poweramps and the EV ZLX are not the strongest speaker in their range! The RCF 312s are great, possibly a little under powered depending on your audience size! I also believe they have been discontinued! Wharfedale are just generic Chinese speakers now a days! The brand name was bought quite a few years ago. There's nothing wrong with this but QC can be an issue so get one from someone with a good warranty. I would probably go for a The Box speaker over these as Thomann are great with their warranty on their own products! (in my experience)
@@GaryOnBass hi there thank you so much for this. Unfortunately I’m not based in the US/UK so don’t have access to the brands you mentioned. However I forgot to ask, how are the Yamaha DBR12s?
The Yamaha DBR12s are a great choice! Really solid speakers which sound great for the price! They are a little basic but at that price point I dont think that's a bad thing!
@@GaryOnBass excellent thank you. So from all of the above I listed. Would the DBR12 be the best? At similar price point.
@Mbee16 yeah those or the RCFs if you can get them! Both good choices!
Qsc are overrated! They have Cheap celestion driver. Rcf, FBT, kv2 audio, EAW, meyer sound, etc are high quality
I totally agree! Although, I have had quite a lot of experience with Celestion drivers and they aren’t all bad! Just a lot of variance throughout the range!
@GaryOnBass rcf, b&c or 18sound drivers are excellent!!
For sure! Faital speakers are great if you like RCF too!
@@GaryOnBass yes
My buddy had the QSC 12.2 and the IQ 12 Turbosound side by side. TURBOSOUND sounded way better.
This doesnt strike me as much of a review.... its more like a running commentary. But it does give me some brands i haven't heard of before..
This isn't a review, more of a rundown of PA speakers I would pick from various budgets! Hope it helped! 🙏
Turbosound also have good powered speakers with a great Klark Teknik built-in DSP which can be controlled via ultranet. You can also choose from different sound models, either the Turbosound voicing or a DSP model of a speaker from an another manufacturer, to maybe match with other speakers.
I've not had a chance to try turbosound but they have interested me! Which model have you tried? I almost bought a Milan system at one point and have looked at the IP series!
@@GaryOnBass I have tried Siena, IQ and NuQ. My favorite is the NuQ, the sound is less agressive compared to the IQ series. Just a perfect place between the Sienna and the IQ series.
Interesting, I haven't seen any of those speakers for sale over here. I wonder if its different branding in different regions? The Siena series looks good!
The mackie show box I tried a great concept but a horrible speaker not clear has it distorted at very low db the worst speaker ever it's horrible even on the face book demos you can pick it out ,even at 80 db it's not clear.
I'm still yet to try that out, but the concept seems like a winner! You can never really compare battery speakers to mains-powered boxes, but that does seem low! It could be bad factory QC (which wouldn't surprise me with Mackie!), so it sounds like it's definitely worth trying before you buy!
@@GaryOnBass I bought it from Sweetwater when it came out and promptly returned it. I didn’t like the operating system or the sound and there was a lot of hiss noise too. Terrible.
Yamaha dsr 12s ....made by nexo n still amazing even today...get a pair amazing speakers...much better than dzr and cheaper far more road worthy...best speakers ever made i think
Yeah, the DSRs are solid units and very affordable! The DZRs are great for what they do, though. The SPL and sound quality are on another level, but I feel that may be the cause of their reliability issues!
I own the dsr112 for 8 years! no issues. and they get abused with 2 yorkville 801p. they were over engineered at the price point compared to everything.
@djizzynyc quality engineering!
THE BOX Pro DSX 112 is i identical to another speaker i own called POWERWORKS artemis 12PD, they are probably made by the same manufacturing company. they are too good for the price.
Yeah I can believe that! I think THE BOX is a generic factory brand Thomann put their name on! The spec looks great don’t wouldn’t surprise me if they are good!
What are you using or looking at buying? Is there anything I missed? Let me know below!
Meyer Sound ,Danley , Bose line array. Any thoughts on these brands?
Not good imo. Bassboss bb15s would smoke em
That definitely looks like it would pack a punch! No retailers on this side of the pond though… I would love to give one of those a try otherwise!
also smoked the wallet
@maizesoft are they expensive? The RCFs are relatively cheap!
Maybe learn how to use them first 😊 The 705’s are awesome. Are they Bass Boss’s NO, and not priced anywhere near the but compare apples to apples next time
Yeah it doesn't seem like an overly similar comparison! I think the price, weight and size of the RCF makes them super useful for bands working in all sizes of room!
I have 2 DZR10 and 2 DXS 15,sound very good, loud and clear, super compact,,, love it... Regards from Indonesia
That does seem like a killer combo!
They have SUB AX15 now
I hadn't seen that! It looks like a great option! Very close to the Yamahas weight though and quite a bit more money!
