Although demolition can be liberating it's always a wonderful feeling of accomplishment when you are able to start seeing that dream realized with new lumber being shaped and installed.
Madds glad to hear Jukol going to OK , we recently lost our " Good Boy " to old age and we're still recovering and now are Dogless . Great work and attention to detail as usual . Cheers from San Diego .
I've never been this early to one of your videos and I have to say... My god, your comment section is the best. People are so good at showing their support. I hope your dog is recovering nicely, not missing you too badly, and I agree seeing the sole in place feels like a big milestone! Sundays are great. Seeing your work makes me inspired every week.
Mads, we can tell you are really enjoying this new restoration phase. So nice to finish the tear out and switching modes to building new. Savor this part, it has the most visual satisfactions for the least time and effort. Looking good! Don't forget to think about wire and plumbing chases while the sole is open.
Your attention to detail never ceases to amaze me! Just getting that coat of primer on has made an enormous difference to how she looks. Can't wait to see the finished interior
The limber hole in the smallest forward compartment, I would have suggested to move that just a bit aft to the corner where it meets the first transverse section of plywood. Your limber hole wasn't in the middle, but that area tens to be a downward slope to stern so it's possible just a bit of water could remain trapped in that corner. Not a huge issue, it would never be much anyway. The fun part of figuring out plans for limber holes is all the ways water can flow at any given point of sail, degree of heel, and then pitch of bow/stern... and then you have to figure in all the plumbing and electrical that could potentially follow in the same space. Oh Glorious complexity of boat systems! (I just love it when boat builders or Previous Owners block off limber holes by putting plumbing or electrical runs through them as if that is what they were meant for... I wouldn't mention it if I hadn't seen it for myself!)
Thanks for another nice DIY video, I always look forward to the next! I would suggest that you install tubes (e.g. 5 cm diameter) for runing cables and maybe also pressurized water hoses before you mount the cabin sole - saves you a lot of trouble when installing cables etc. later. It is also much easier if you at some time need to replace a cable or similar. Install tubes between strategic locations you expect will be used for cabling - even if some end up not being used you will save time and labour. It also keeps cables out of harms way.
Have enjoyed all your videos over the years Mads. I, like others, feel like you have turned a corner and so nice to see things going back together rather than being torn apart. Questions: 1) do you plan to paint the underside of the new sole with the same epoxy paints and 2) how will the sole be attached to the structural members and the hull? Can't wait for your next video.
Holy crap Mads , this DIY program has taken it to a whole new level , the spiffyness is so damn good that the boat is waaaaaaaay better than when it left the factory.
You are a great dad to jukol. (Sorry if the spelling is wrong). Yes, eye specialists are insanely expensive! Ask me how I know😕. Worth every penny to see our dogs better. Hugs and kisses to him. Hopefully it will be a short healing process.
Just wanted to say that I’m impressed with your carpenter skills, fiberglass skills. You seem to take the time to really plan every detail before you execute. Keep up the good work. I think I watch because I learn a little something and I look forward to seeing the progression and I hope to see you sailing it someday.. cheers!
It befuddles me that this channel only has 59K subscribers. It is so musher that other channels with 500K subscribers. I anxiously await this video every Sunday and bummer out when it ends.
Keep up the great work Mads, I know how frustrating it can be having to move stuff around just to be able to get work done. Once that floor goes in it will feel like whole new boat.
Thank you Mads for this week's video. Made my Sunday night spiffy. Hope Jurkil is doing better. Really enjoy your narration of what you are doing and the excellent video that it accompanies. Wish you the best in the week ahead.
Finally getting caught up on Sail Life again. Cruising means you don't always have broadband when you are anchored out in BUFU Canada -or it isn't in the budget at $10/gig.
Best wishes for the pup, keep us up to date! Please paint the inner hull (under the sole) white so when you're storing stuff underneath it's brighter with light reflection etc. Might be a little nicer when trying to find something...
Hoping that Jökull has a speedy recovery! That laminate is crazy thick! After seeing the state of the core material, something definitely had to be done. I think that you made the right choice going the "easy" route, especially after consulting an engineer. Your work, as always, is extremely neat and professional...you clearly take pride in your projects. I'm excited to see how you transform the cabin!
You my friend are a master builder, I tried glassing on my boat and it came out nothing like what I see on your examples, maybe I need more practice, but I think your skill level is that of a master builder.
Great video and progress as always! Just one thing I would like to add if it was my boat, is pipes/conduit of some kind to route electrical and water under the cabin sole. I'm sure you have a plan for this though :)
Get well soon Jukol. Athena will need a mascot. The epoxy paint and plywood really adds dimention to Athena. I am glad you addressed the possible standing water issues. With your quality of work my bet is you won't see a drop. Keep up the great work. Hi Ava.
Wow, this video flew by! You got a lot accomplished. It is nice to see your refit has switched gears from repair to rebuilding! Athena is looking beautiful. As alway, i love your videos.... only 6 days, 23hr and 39 minutes til next week.
16:20 we can't see it, but we can see the wet stain under. So wet, they moistened the plywood :)) Hope puppy is ok, i know they don't like the cone of shame.
Another great vid, hope your four legged boat mate is feeling better now. Are you going to cover/protect the limber holes you drilled through the structural members (you did for the new cabin sole supports). I know that it's no longer a problem if they are wet, but it may stop them getting any worse and stop some horrid smells later down the line...
Mads- It would next level spiffy for you to see the fruits of your labor. Please consider wearing proper eye protection when using power tools or mixing epoxy. Thanks as always for the great video!
Man you say this is on the job training (so to speak) but you definitely do what a professional would do. I don’t know how to sail (yet) but after I do would you come help me build a sailboat 👍 love watching your progress
While you have the access, I'd suggest glassing in four to six robust anchor points so you can strap that tank to the structural part of the boat instead of relying purely on the furniture to hold it in place. (Something in the neighborhood of 5-10 g's is a typical planning figure when contemplating keeping heavy stuff from becoming a dangerous wrecking ball in violent seas/capsize. So, if your tank weighs 150 kg when full, design your restraints to comfortably hold 750-1500 kg in place.)
Hi Mads, did you ever consider getting a file belt sander. It’s great for seams as you can use belts as narrow as 6mm width. Also they’re real problem solvers as you can get them into all the difficult spaces.
That is great. Even sanded down a spot that will never actually be seen. BTW, did you seal the little mouse door shaped limber hole that was circular but you cut out the bottom so it looks like a mouse door or a tombstone shape. Its at 18:03.
Although demolition can be liberating it's always a wonderful feeling of accomplishment when you are able to start seeing that dream realized with new lumber being shaped and installed.
Get well soon Jökull ❤️

No worries a dog will choose you
I'm sorry for your loss
I like that you're always doing good work not cutting corners
He doesn't cut corners, he fillets them.
Thank you so much! Yeah I must have the best viewers on all of RUclips :) I'm sure Jokull will be fine - it was just tough to see him like that.
Wishing ‘Yurkel’ a speedy recovery. Thank you for another great lesson on how to deliver small boat projects.
It's coming together now. It will be infinitely better than when it came out of the factory. I can't wait to see the white paint on - top job
The unconditional love from Fur babies often exacts as heavy a price as that from our kids.
Think happy and keep busy.
Cheers Eric
Every single weekend I look forward to your video

Your workmanship deserves a tv show on PBS...! It reminds me of “New Yankee Workshop” and “This Old House” but with fiberglass...!! Great work sir..!!
My engine mount stringers are rotten, seeing you fix this type of issue successfully makes me stoked!!!!
Wishing Mr Cuddles a speedy recovery!
You are the hardest working, most likable person on youtube. Congrats and thank you for teaching me so many countless lessons on life and boats.
Your attention to detail never ceases to amaze me! Just getting that coat of primer on has made an enormous difference to how she looks. Can't wait to see the finished interior

Always the highlight of our Sunday.

Another awesome video, wishing the best for a quickly doggy recovery!
You’ve always had good skills building but now you have some pretty “Mad” skills. Enjoy watching very much.

Great advice on the limber holes Mads, unsealed limber holes equals rotting bulkheads. Cheers
G'day Rossco. Get back to the mold!
Nice to see you putting things back in.
I haven’t gotten thru the ads and I’m all excited.......
send good vibes for the pup and his eye

Worth every penny for your dogs to see you better? :P It really is too bad treatment like this is so expensive.
When Mads says "close enough" you know he actually means it's within 0.001mm tolerance :-)
Just wanted to say that I’m impressed with your carpenter skills, fiberglass skills. You seem to take the time to really plan every detail before you execute. Keep up the good work. I think I watch because I learn a little something and I look forward to seeing the progression and I hope to see you sailing it someday.. cheers!
Mads you have got to write a book on sailboat restoration. You are tops.
I like your use of CAD
“Cardboard aided design”

Keep up the great work Mads, I know how frustrating it can be having to move stuff around just to be able to get work done. Once that floor goes in it will feel like whole new boat.
I hope you don’t get used to sitting on the cabin sole. Good work, Mads.

Keep watching.. so far he's only undercoated the bilges.. I'd bet the final coats will be white, or light coloured at least.
Hoping that Jökull has a speedy recovery!

Nice work Mads! All the best to Mr Fluffy!!
Fun to watch your progress. Athena is going to be the first million dollar warrior 38
I hope when he gets tired of it he auctions it off to the highest RUclipsr. I will be right there bidding.
Starting to take shape!
You my friend are a master builder, I tried glassing on my boat and it came out nothing like what I see on your examples, maybe I need more practice, but I think your skill level is that of a master builder.
Man thats strength, who cares about moist wood. That is some great reinforcement!
Lots of glorious glorious sanding today. Preparing sub-floor in a house for new wood flooring
I love it when it all comes together. One step at a time.
You are the best part of the weekend, great work and sweet video job!
Oh noes! I’m sorry to hear about Jorkel. I’m sure we all hoping for a speedy recovery.
Great video and progress as always!
Just one thing I would like to add if it was my boat, is pipes/conduit of some kind to route electrical and water under the cabin sole. I'm sure you have a plan for this though :)
My best wishes for your little one! May your dog be well in no time! Lovely to see things coming together! Great work!

Best wishes and a speedy recovery to Jokol. Great video, thank YOU.
Awesome. We have a big project ahead of us and you just made it look bigger. Lol. Thanks though. Following.
With all the space under the sole I hope your planning easy access and something nifty, like maybe a wine cellar !
excellent video Mads I hope your doggy recovers quickly & fully!
Time lapse is great . I wish I could get my work done that fast!!
Your vids always make me feel better. I felt like giving up on my boat the other day. Thanks for the inspiration.
This is some craftmanship! Hope the dog recovers fast.
16:20 we can't see it, but we can see the wet stain under. So wet, they moistened the plywood :))

Mads- It would next level spiffy for you to see the fruits of your labor. Please consider wearing proper eye protection when using power tools or mixing epoxy. Thanks as always for the great video!
Wonderful video Mads. Spiffy work..👍
Man you say this is on the job training (so to speak) but you definitely do what a professional would do. I don’t know how to sail (yet) but after I do would you come help me build a sailboat 👍 love watching your progress
Sooo much great work and content. Awesome
Nice progress this week. Looking forward to next week's work as usual.
Aaw I do hope everything is well with your dog

Great video as always, so thanks.
thanks for another great diy video, and get well soon doggy x
My weekly fix is in, woohoo! It is going to be incredible Mads, nice work.
Hi Mads, great work as always! Really great to se things are getting shaped up. Look forward to the next video👍
Dear sir, Was wondering if you plan on putting down any sort of sound insulation or deadening. Perhaps a "DynaMat" style material?
Great progress
*big hugs* for Jürkel. I hope he’s feeling better soon..
Thanks so much again!! Great spiffy video, all excited! I stay tuned..!!
That is great. Even sanded down a spot that will never actually be seen. BTW, did you seal the little mouse door shaped limber hole that was circular but you cut out the bottom so it looks like a mouse door or a tombstone shape. Its at 18:03.
Great video
