- If you're looking for some ideas and fishing concepts to help guide your decision making on the water, or give you something different to consider when choosing your lures, these longer format videos will hopefully provide you with lots of things to think about. Join me on the water as i drift a section of Bass water and try to work out how to get those tough winter Bass to bite. Let me know what you think about this added video format to my channel.
Not many channels would get me to watch a 40 minute video, but I always enjoy your stuff, and I was not dissapointed.
Some great tips and very interesting. Even though there are plenty of non-tidal waters that I could fish at this time of year, I use the "closed" season to focus my fishing time on saltwater as I do so much Bassing in the warmer months. Flathead, Jewfish and Bream will keep me busy until the weather warms up again.
Thanks for your feedback Rocket ;) I’ve gotta hit the salt a bit more too. I’ve been getting my hands on some cool little lures lately so a bit of testing in the fresh was a must.
what about my channel :D
Hey John, you really need to try BFS for bass. It’s great fun to be able to use a casting set up with unweighted plastics or tiny little micro lures.
Can’t go wrong with any of those baits. Simplifying never hurts!
For sure. The Squirrels are amazing eh
Great vid john. Mate you seriously have your cast on. Very accurate and very impressive. Thanks mate. Keep up the vids. A+
Beautiful piece of country there John. I hate how slow it is during Winter. This year though it definitely taught me new things and the beauty of Winter fishing. Bring back the warmer weather but aha. Awesome vid mate. Jackall us life =)
Cheers mate. Bass creeks are all time eh ;)
Great vid mate! Love the longer, more informative format. Keep it up! Thanks!
Thanks for the supportive feedback Pat. Sounds like these are worth putting together ;) I’ll keep them rolling out in the coming months. Cheers mate
Loved it bro. You fish much faster than i do for winter bass haha
Great stuff John, I like seeing how you approach your session especially under tough conditions. Bizarre how those fish hit your lure the second you start to question them.
Good to hear mate ;) I’m gonna have to question the lures more I reckon. Haha
Awesome video like usual. Should have a crack at a 40cm breambo while its winter. Super fun!
Cheers mate. I’ll get after a few
Nice work John, top colour squirrel in the coloured water and the wriggler is a great slow worked lure
Thanks mate. I love the golds for Bass and Jacks ;)
Sweet vid man looking forward to this summer I’ve been getting my fix with spinning for tailor on the surface they hit like a truck much like a bass strike 👌
Good to hear mate. I’ve gotta get after a few tailor at some stage myself. Such an aggressive fish eh
Yep using mostly 40g metals off the headlands along the top of the water with a few pauses can’t go wrong however tailor action around my parts has slowed down with the season changing
Great info, enjoyed it!
Good to hear. Cheers mate
Bloody good stuff mate!! Needing to head out and chase some bass when I’m come back to QLD next! 🎣💪🏼
Cheers Shaun. They get pretty addictive esp. in the creeks ;)
Well done mate, keep them coming!!
Cheers John ;)
Have you tried much of the bubble type lures not so long more like a bubble shape. If that makes sense.i normally get a few bass in winter on savage lures. The little clear pink deep diver and the little one that looks like a small boney bream. They have worked well for me in really skinny bass country. Loved the video keep it up mate
I used to fish the little bubble style a lot more years ago. Now you’ve reminded me, I reckon I’ll bust a few out in the coming months. Some of those little savage gear lures dominate eh. And they’re super cheap too which makes them easier to throw into hell holes.
@@mylurebox yeah normally stock a few in the tackle box. I've always found the gold and black ones do the damage around the marry river kenil worth area. The saratoga will be biting soon hopefully must be time to dust the yak off and have a dig cheers for the videos
Great video John, as usual! Love the long format, bought all your dvds so yeah keep them coming!!...haha. I just started bass fishing in tiny creeks end of this autumn and I was searching for some advice during the cold weather as my usual spots are not producing as they used back in April...came across this vid and one thing that caught my attention is that unlike jack fishing this time you don’t twitch at all! I would have thought if you wanted to keep the lure in the strike zone (close to bank or structure like you do when chasing jacks) you’d cast, couple of twitches and let it sit in the strike zone then twitch-pause with rather long pauses? Surprised me a lot when I saw (other than letting it sit there after the cast) you just constant retrieving with pauses...any reason for not twitching? Thanks for all the knowledge you are sharing mate! Got my first jacks following your advice 👍🏽 greatly appreciate
Mate that’s awesome. Glad to hear you like the content and my videos. I found a super slow worked lure can hold their interest. An aggressive twitch from my experience when I’ve been watching cold water fish is often it spoons them and they take off. Super sharp hooks help. Sometimes Bass won’t even open their mouth when they knock a lure so it’s a funny game during winter I reckon. Worth varying it up for sure
Good vid man. Format Works.
Hey mate like your videos but could you give a rundown on your fishing vessel to me it looks like you've retrofitted a camping chair and an electric motor into a kayak??
Important question Johnny, I was up this river today and had a baby brown snake come swimming up to the side of my kayak when I had stopped for a bit. I freaked out and he disappeared, but got me thinking how bad it'd be if one got in the kayak. Have you ever had a snake come up to your kayak?
Hey bro. Yep. It’s pretty hectic esp. when they’re moving fast or wanna get in. Definitely worth having a paddle ready to shoo em off. Scary stuff mate
@@mylurebox Oh you've got me worried now was hoping it was a one off thing. Just real worried about one coming up behind the kayak as I wouldn't see it coming. Have you had big ones or is it mainly just the little hatchlings? Supposed to be the most relaxing part of my day, not anymore haha
you should come to kyogle you can catch some bass at the dam. the name is toonumbar
Beetle spins are dynamite I caught my first yellow belly out of the brisbane river on one with a zman grub
I love em ;)
Nice little video mate. What AH battery do you use for your kayak?
I use a 90AH at the moment ;)
Cheers mate. In running a 110 but it gets heavy setting up was looking to downsize to a 75ish
@@mylurebox how long you get off it roughly lads?
Awesome advice John! What lb leader would you recommend for a creek for winter bass?
I was using 12lb with the Squirrel cause I didn’t want to Lose it. Hahaa. If ur going light then 6-8lb with cheaper lures like plastics or beetle spins etc

Brilliant mate cheers ;) there’s lots to see here and loads to come
just wondering what the name of the first lure that you where throwing please
Did you rig your motor up yourself? Have never seen one where you’ve got it, looks so much easier to use.
Yeah Brett, if you wanna see how it did it I’ve done a couple videos 2 years ago on this channel that takes you through it.
awesome vid, very informative. By any chance is that the upper tweed river?
Great vid mate. What do u think of the stradic fk compared to the ci4+
Hi mate. I’ve fished with both and rate em both. I really like what I’m fishing with at the moment, but can really remember my old stradic. It got ripped from my slimy fishy hands one night when I was livey fishing. Such a rookie. Hahah
Side note mate. What rods are you using? They seem quite stiff? What is your rig mate?
Hi mate. I generally run a 2500 Stradivarius and 702SF Dobyns fury series spinning rod. A bit stuff for sure. It’s kinda what I’m used to though to get the casting accuracy. ;)
@@mylurebox Thanks mate I will definatley look into that reel/rod combo. Im using a 30 year old barra rod with my old Daiwa baitcaster from when i was a kid living in Darwin, which is quite stiff but everyone else seems to be using these flexi tip estuary rods here in SE QLD. Im just getting back into my fishing and am looking for tips. Specifically fresh water fishing which I must admit I know nothing. Im just about to watch another of your vids for inspiration and advice as we are about to camping on the banks of the upper reaches of the tweed river/oxley river, fresh water sections.. Thanks John for getting back to me.
Hey mate any tips on fishing Hinze ??
I’ll get onto it mate ;) the soft shell cicada review I did has some Bass action from there in the meantime
mylurebox thanks mate yea seen all your bass vids and your kayakers guide aswell awesome stuff keep it coming 🤙
Cheers mate. There’s plenty on it’s way
mylurebox looking forward to it !!
ever fish with finesse jigs? any thoughts?
Not enough. I’ll have to give Em more time. ;) what are ur thoughts ?
been giving the keitech casting jig 3/8oz a crack, not a lot of success yet, had to trim the weed guard down a little to improve hookup rate so will see if it improves, is versatile to retrieve fast or slow though,
Thanks for the feedback on em Mikie. You’ve got me keen now ;)
Haha I have the same addiction
