HAIX PROTECTOR ULTRA BOOT REVIEW: AFTER ONE YEAR OF USE

  • I got these boots almost a year and a half ago. I have many thoughts on them that I would like to share with the world. They are advertised as a forestry boot, but are mainly for spiking. I have used them for everything though, and I'll tell you what I've concluded in my year+ of use.
    I have worked these boots hard, but I haven't "run them into the ground," because I've taken special care to maintain their function as long as possible. I'll tell you the little things I do to not shorten the lifespan/get extra life out of my climbing boots.
    So stay tuned and enjoy.

    Just got a pair of the lime green ones based on your review mate. Best boots i have bought, they are more comfy than my Pfanner Tirol Fighters. They are £189 today at Forest and Arb in the UK. All the best from South Wales.

      David Powell That’s amazing! I’m so happy you found this review helpful; and humbled that you acted based on my suggestion. You have made a great choice, and your feet will thank you at the end of the day/week/season for treating them so well. That’s a great deal too, especially considering the generally high price of any arb boot. Happy climbing and stay safe 👊

    I just bought a pair online to use on offshore drilling rigs. I’ve been thinking for years how good it would be to combine mountaineering boot aspects with safety boot requirements. Then I found chainsaw boots the other day … great review

      That’s awesome, man. I personally love the mountaineering boot as a base as well; I think it’s great for lots of different stuff, and it’s a pretty quality build. I think these boots are dialectric as well (non conductive), so they probably add a degree of safety for you in your field. I’m happy you liked the video. Thanks for stopping by!

      I agree. I’ve been looking around for something for SRT and straight up trimming and scrambling around the canopy. I would consider the Drayer boots for this. Wesspur reviewed them and they’re pretty inexpensive, which is a nice bonus.

    Right off the bat great advice. Do not use your climbing boots on the ground. Doesn’t matter how good they are. If they’re constantly getting wet and abused they won’t last and they all cost $400. We all need something more sacrificial for ground use.

    • @BRIDGEBURNERSTV
      @BRIDGEBURNERSTV  3 года назад +1

      This is true. At the very least, we should use our OLD boots on the ground, and change into the new ones for climbing, or mainly spiking. I just started using my new green ones this week, and the heels are so much higher (not worn out) and the boots are way stiffer...it’s a huge difference. I’m at home now for lunch, but since we’re just cleaning up this afternoon, I’m putting on my Sorel winter boots to struggle in the deep snow while moving logs. Thanks for the comment and for passing by.

      BRIDGEBURNERS TV great video, unusual level of intelligence for RUclips. I tried Haix a few years ago, they were an all black forestry boot, pretty much the same but all black. Wasn’t impressed. I then tried Meindl and was really happy. You can only get them on honeybros.com and they just released two new styles and the orange pair is 100% waterproof and designed for crampons. You know, if you need to climb an ice wall to get to the tree.

    Hey man, I build trails for a living and ive been interested in these boots. When you said they don’t bend well I got kind of concerned. I hike around a lot, do you think that will be an issue for me?

    • @BRIDGEBURNERSTV
      @BRIDGEBURNERSTV  3 года назад +2

      Michael Bagby I would honestly say that it depends on what you are used to wearing. If you wear a light hiker, you will find these heavy. If you are used to a mountaineering boot like Scarpa or LaSportiva, or just a high work boot, you should have no issues. The stiffness can be worn out by walking, as is the case with mine now. If you have no reason to keep the boots stiff (working on spikes often, etc) then I think they would do the job. I hope this helps.

    I want a pair but they are vary expensive..

    • @BRIDGEBURNERSTV
      @BRIDGEBURNERSTV  3 года назад +2

      Yes, they are a tad pricey. If you’re looking for something for half the price, you should check the Simond mountaineering boot. No steel toe or chainsaw protection (but lots of climbing boots are like that), but they do the job. The outsole is the same, only smooth (kinda slippery), but they work well for SRT, ground work (they can bend), and even spiking. Also, for $250, it’s a good deal. I have a pair that I use when I have to walk around a lot. If you’re in Canada you can get them at Decathlon (sports store). Or just order them direct from France. Hope this helps.

    • @BRIDGEBURNERSTV
      @BRIDGEBURNERSTV  4 года назад

      I have a wide foot (can’t wear the Scafell brand, it scrunches my toes) and I have the wide model of these boots. They are a good fit. I’ve rarely gotten a blister, and that was after wearing them for way too long, driving, etc. I’m still wearing the red pair. Not going for a record; they’re just still good. I hope this helps.

    Would u suggest wide or medium?

    • @BRIDGEBURNERSTV
      @BRIDGEBURNERSTV  4 года назад

      Even though my feet are wide, I would still suggest the wide ones to most people. I wouldn’t want to get blisters or a bump on the sides of my toes; I find other boots tend to pinch in that area, and if that’s the case it’s very hard to break them in because that area doesn’t stretch...they’re not skate shoes, after all! So yeah, I suggest the wide model. Hope this helps.
