Sunrise to Sunset on the Pittsburgh Line - August 3, 2021 from Duncannon to Mexico, PA

It’s Tuesday, August 3rd, 2021, and our time trackside starts with the tail end of NS 590, coal ultimately bound for Baltimore, as we pull up Linton Hill Road to get a closer look. It’s about ten minutes to 6 AM. The air is crisp and damp as the land around us slowly eases out of the envelope of darkness. Sunrise is due at 6:07 this foggy late-summer morning, but won't be very distinct through the dense murk all around. Throughout the day, the clouds will part and the blue sky will show. The sun will beat down as it travels across the sky until it officially sets on us at 8:22 PM. We will have seen twenty-nine more trains from six other locations along the Pittsburgh line.
