Hello everyone, Frost here. Welcome back to a new classic wow video. This is the 6th episode from the vanilla profession overview series. In our previous episodes we covered the all the primary professions, giving tips on where to acquire rare recipes, how to make gold which each individual skill with hope in mind that it might help players make the correct decision in choosing their primary professions. Today, we're covering one of the secondary skills: FISHING... looking at what to fish, the value of it, how to transform ingredients for higher profit and how to increase you fishing skill.
Fisherman relax and feed themselves by catching the bounty of Azeroth's lakes and seas. Careful bait selection and patience can result in some truly amazing rewards, from seafood feasts that restore heroes' health or enhance their attributes to rare and expensive fish that can be used by cooks and alchemists to create transformative, offensive and defensive brews.
Fishing is a secondary profession - anyone can learn to fish, no matter how many other professions they've devoted themselves to.
Many players don’t know that Fishing can be an excellent way to make money in Vanilla wow. In fact, fishing might be the best way to make money at low levels. You can start making crazy amounts of gold as low as level 20. Here are a few ways that fishing can make you a ton of gold in classic WoW:
Stonescale Eels are used by alchemists to create Stonescale Oil that can be further transformed into Elixir of superior defense but most importantly Flask of the Titans, making this fish the cream of the crop, so we’ll start with this first.
Farming Stonescale Eel is by far the most lucrative way to earn money fishing. However, it’s also the most competitive. Stonescale Eels are used for end-game flasks crafted by alchemists and as such have a constant, high demand on the auction house. Depending on your server economy, they can sell from 15 Gold to 30 gold/stack. In order to catch this fish, you’ll need at least 205 fishing skill, which can be achieved as low as level 20.
Deviate Fish Used by chef across Azeroth to create the renown Savory Deviate Delight that transforms you into a pirate or a ninja for 60 minutes. Alchemist also use this rare fish to create the elixir of giant growth.
The Winter Squid it's used by chefs across azeroth to cook Grilled Squid, a popular dish for rogues, hunters and some waiors with mixed feelings. Like the name suggests, this sea creature can only be caught during the winter, starting with the 23rd of September equinox and lasting til the 19th of march spring equinox.
Fishing Lures
These come in +25, +50, +75 and +100 fishing skill. Most of them you can purchase from the fishing suppliers. Some drop from mobs and some are crafted with engineering.
For the casual angler, lures provide a way to fish more effectively in areas where their personal skill is not sufficient to stop the fish from getting away (or even to catch any fish at all). You should balance the cost of the lures against the “value” of the fish gained. To fish in the most difficult areas (such as Winterspring and the Bay of Storms in Azshara) without fish getting away, you will need an effective skill of about 425. That can’t be achieved with personal skill and lures alone, which is why people that are anglin for the best fish should try and gain the best fishing gear.
Fishing in vanilla wow is quite underrated, not sure if people consider it a boring skill or if they're just uninformed. Low level characters such as twinks highly depend on this skill to get their dream gear and enchants. New heroes that join a server and try to catch up with others while leveling, often get enough gold to learn spells and get theirs mounts by level 40 just by doing some casual fishing. But don't get me wrong, fishing is great for both leveling and end game content as other professions are dependable on fishing ingredients to create flasks, miniature food buffs and absorption potions. I strongly suggest to pick this skill in your classic adventures as leveling it feels like a walk in the park.

I think you forgot to mention the "find fish" book that allows you to track fish schools on the minimap. It's quite helpful, and you get it by opening boxes from fishing in wreckage.
Pretty sure the deviate fish can also be fished from the oasis pools in barrens.

It's the best place to do it imo, chase the deviate schools.
Of course, and by the way, can you fish them from inside WC ? You know, the water where you jump into from the last boss... I think not but dont remember...
@@lucasstone243 This indeed. I used to fish them on my twinks back in the day to make gold. The deviate schools spawn in all of the oasis and hunting those pools is the best way to obtain them

I couldn't stand fishing back in the day but this time around I will just for cooking and food buffs, plus to pay respects to a great guildie that LOVED fishing in game who isn't around anymore.
As a guy that will primarly pvp in classic making an alliance fisher seems to have great potential. You get some pvp action in horde zones and can capture fish that are more rare on the alliance side. Win/win situation. I actually love how much depth classic has that I never knew about. Like how fishing is affected by seasons, time of the day and location. Makes it feel more realistic. Since I wount be making any gold from pvp I feel like fishing could compliment that.
I remember fishing in Redridge Mountains while standing on the huge bridge. Also, travelling from Stormwind to Ironforge through the Deeprun Tram just to catch the rare fish equipable in your off hand

I love your videos. I would love to have a stat breakdown on how long it took you to fish out all of the boxes that you opened at the start of your video. You showed that off, but didn't even talk about how you got them. You didn't talk about fishing the floating wrecks, for possible random greens, potions, or range of random loot from low level zones to higher.
Look at the amount of fish I got in my bag.
That was like 2.5 hours of fishing on the offline server with 0 competition.
The pools and wreckage spawned pretty fast, but tbh I kinda slacked.
So I cannot tell you the exact time it would take on a real server :E

Another thing about fishing that's great for Tailors specifically are the Cloth Bolts that drop from wreckage. I farmed up several hundred stacks of Runecloth worth of Rcloth bolts while getting my fishing up.
Also there's a chance schools might not be in Classic's release, I don't know if they've said anything about it, but they are going with a progressive raid and itemization release schedule, and fishing nodes like wreckage and schools were added in a later patch.
As far as I understand, the patch stuff will be only for items.
As they will run on 1.12 rest :E

I always hated fishing in Vanilla, but after many years I finally figured out how to level fishing without it being the most boring thing in the world. What I will do is at least once, every time I am logged in, I will fish until I get 10 points to my fishing. Then I either stop and move on, or keep going if I am into it at the time. But at least once a day I get 10 points. This really helped to level and not be so boring.

If a poor goldless Night Elf in Classic, remember that you can get a very nice FREE fishing rod (pretty much equivalent to the Strong Fishing Rod) from Gubber Blump on the beach just below the Auberdine pier. Easy quest: just catch 6 Darkshore Grouper and he'll give you that nice rod. He'll even provide you with a loaner, so don't spend precious silver on a rod. Plus the Grouper is good food, great for pets, even sells at the AH. Search for "The Family and the Fishing Pole" for details.

Vanilla-veteran here, been watching your videos for quite a while and recently subbed (about time). I wish I had this knowledge when I played vanilla back in the day. Also - I think with today's gamers and how the knowledge is so more readily available - the competition on these things are gonna be much harder this time around.

Awesome :) Whenever I create a main I always pick up fishing. It helps boost cooking to stay with your level and I've always made good money off sagefish. You just do it when you need to eat or make a call to someone, find somewhere to chill and multitask away. I also like to find my own little fishing spot; sometimes I bump into people in the least likely of places! oh yeah, and my signature alcoholic drink is black label which I've only ever seen from fishing lol

@@Frostadamus I've been lucky in STV and hinterlands. The coast in desolace is also a nice spot and I'm sure I've found them in Hillsbrad.
Fishing is one of my favorite things to do in WoW. It's quite enjoyable.
Of all the professions, I'm actually sold on doing fishing and cooking.

couple of things, people have a misconception that one needs to fish in higher level areas to gain fishing skill level faster, thats wrong, fishing skill level increase rate will be same irrespective of the area you are fishing at, that means u can get to 300 from 0 from any pool, its just rng. Fishing skill caps can be extended by books bought from fish vendors, one needs fishing to fish out fishes to summon a boss in zg, fishing cap increase from 225 to 300 requires quest from Nat Pagle in dustwallow marsh...., My recommendation would be to buy the fishing books and get to fishing 225 from 0 inside wailing caverns for deviate , then go steamwheedle, then after you get to max skill level cap required for bay of storms, fish there to get good chunk of gold

@@Frostadamus it does count xD, i think it takes about 5 hours to get to 300 from 0, really love your content so far, also maybe you could make a quest guide series for certain standout iconic quests and quest chains like onyxia attune, ubrs key, scarab lord and maybe content like how to get exalted cross faction darnassus by level 40 and get sabers
Some of these are a bit horde biased, but that only makes me even more excited about my fishing job.
-Don't wonder if you see any Alliance in the Barrens folks, we may be there for the recipe or just to fish in that special pool.
-Just as we(the Alliance) see lots of hordies twinks-wanna-be farming deadmines in Westfall.

On a side note I don't know that it's been covered or not but on darkshore once you reach Auberdeen the night elf's / alliance get a quest for a fishing pole from Blubber Gump I believe, it's been so long I can't remember, they took the quest out in cataclysm but it had + fishing on it and not sure if there was any other poles that had plus fishing as a reward so no need for NE or any alliance willing to travel at low level..I do recall the fishing quest in the dwarf / gnome area too at that lake but don't recall the reward.really looking forward to all this again...

I think he should. There are some really bad guides for lock picking out there. Most guides are for late patches, and with certain patches you can't do what they suggest in the guide. Some examples would be the suggested lock boxes in Angor Fortress... or around the lake in Lakeshire, or off the coast of Desolace. This just isn't an option for a fresh server going through the patch progress cycle. Pick pocketing lock boxes and some doors like the ones in SM or the back door in Gnormeragon (which you can only do once every 24 hours I think) are the only way to lvl up lock picking early on. I think for Alliance lock picking form like 220-225 (guessing here) is impossible with lock boxes I think... the way I got the 5 points i needed to lvl up to 225 was opening the SM and Gnomeragon doors. 3 skill ups per day since you couldn't spam them. ( at least on private servers... might be different on live)

Don't forget, back in vanilla off the coast of Darnasus, you had the chance of catching two fish at once. And this had a chance of awarding two skill points instead of just one.
Then their's the unique treasure you can get. Such as the 1-Ring.
One of my first toons has the Arcanite Fishing Pole, the swimming trinket might’ve been more useful but I panicked and picked the pole in case someone was on my heels. I remember winning that contest was pretty exciting. Might try again in Classic, it’s getting close.
Most profession guides assume that there is already a market for mats and craftables, but I think for the first weeks/months after classic launch there is simply not going to be the monetary base yet and most people will be trying to sell all the gathering profession mats but not many people will able or willing to buy them.
So, for the first weeks after launch we probably need ways to make gold that don't rely on the existing monetary base but create money themselves (i.e. vendoring to NPC).

The best place, fastest to level fishing 1-100 is Rut'theran Village, right next to the fishing vendor which sells the Slithereen makrel recipe to level cooking with all the fish you just caught.

I remember funding a lvl 19 rogue twink back in vanilla, via fishing and cooking deviate fish outside the Wailing Caverns, on my 20 something Warlock "main". Good times. They sold for about 1g each.

it should be said that if your going to farm the big iron pole you will need to bring something to help you breath under water.
Fishing was highly underrated and wasn't until lights hope that I took it seriously and to great success
@Ramen Eater you can have all the secondary professions like cooking and fishing but only two of the primary profs at any given time like mining +engineering

Didn't know fishing was this profitable in Classic. Defs going to level it, I have a shitty laptop at work which I installed BFA on when it first dropped I made a tonne of gold just fishing on my lunch breaks. Going to do the same with Classic!

Big Iron Fishing Pole seems to be not only not BoP but not BoE - which means you can buy one and sell it later or trade it among the friends.

Hello! I know this video is old but I’m wondering do Raw Nightfin Snapper pools spawn? I’ve been trying to farm them lately and couldn’t get them to spawn and or do they just not exist?

Spent hours fishing as Aliance in Barrens just to notice how low stacks of deviate fish or firefin snapper etc goes for. I have 240 fire oil in my bank because they sell for 60s per stack and I've heard they sell for 4-8g stack. I hope this only is temporary, I ofc keep in mind that servers economy is pure new but when do you think that I can profit from all my work I put on to gather matherials?

@Frostadamus literally this is what i am excited about in terms of classic, professions that actually feel like you are achieving something. I am so ready to farm and make gold for my guild and homies... after i smash them in leveling of course
while I appreciate the video's, one must remember that as a server ages in progression, eventually gathering becomes so saturated that it drives down the prices on all these goods. Also, many people who are using these items to craft, in a mature server, will either have a farming alt or have someone in the guild farming.
Farming materials will always make some money, but nothing like crafting professions. But gathering professions will always have that lower cost of entry and training.
Frost you need to do some kind of editing tutorial. Your video craftsman-ship is next level amazing. Keep up the fantastic work!

Deviate fish can be fished from the pool outside of the instance. There is no need to go inside.

It took me so long to get to Azshara, died so many times, found a spot close to the graveyard to fish from and I start fishing, some fish get away, and other times I do a successful pull but get nothing, every couple pulls my skill gets higher, I'm currently at 210 writing this, using a bauble to max at 225 for now. I figure maybe its a bug so I try a new spot, I swim into the bay because you said I can fish there at 205 minimum, I'm 225 with bauble and 210 base (and actual level 25) so I should be fine. I get a message saying I"m too low skill level to fish there"... It took me so long to get here and I can't even fish like you said I could. Such a waste of time.
@frostadamus, hey awesome guide man. got me into trying to fish in this game. Do you know if lures allow you to fish in higher level areas? Azshara says it is a fishing level of "205 (305)". Does this mean that i need my skill to be 205 pre buff or post buff? I'm currently 144 with a buff of +125 and I still cant fish there. Any thoughts?

Haha actaully rn lvling in mulgore. Will probably pick fishing. I had already lvled like 2 lvls untill i found the skinning guy. I though I would find it later but better late than never ^^
What is an efficient way to level fishing from 1-300? That is the only thing missing from the video, good video for how to use the profession for gold.
Just fish an area until you stop receiving skill-ups, then move to a higer area.
Example: Start stormwind, move redrige, wetlands coast, tanaris.
5 hours later, you're 300.
I think the amount of successful casts you need to get a skillup is only determined by your own fishing skill. It does not matter where you fish as long as your skill is high enough to successfully catch fish

Is it sure those prices are somehow accurate? I don't want them to be 1:1, I just want them to stabilize losely around those amounts...
I ask because I like to play rather slowly and enjoy fishing as a profession. Also I discovered how lowly prized deviant/ss-eel are at the moment.
I plan on stocking up a few of these fish to make big profit once most people are raiding.
With my playstyle I'll be 40 after most ppl already hit 60...🤷♂️

Nice guide, keep it up! :D I'm just afraid that the gold making potential of fishing will be way lower than back in vanilla. Fishing won't be as much of a niche profession in classic so that there will naturally be more fishes in stock. That's the "downside" of an easy access to good guides these days ;)

I fished them on the tanaris port, in about 2.5 hours (including the fish).
But you have to keep in mind that this is an offline server. It's solitare WoW -> 0 competition :))

Is fishing a legit way for healers to make gold? That’s what has kept me from ever healing in vanilla. I hate being poor
definitely, but only if done properly.
Mix fishing with herbalism and go to high level zones. Don't sit in one place, move around to fish in pools and keep track herbs up.
I made 2000g fishing stonescale eels to buy 2 epic mounts for my main and my alt.

@@phobosmoon4643 Tanaris is very good because it is easy to get to and you don't have to fight your way through any mobs.
Bay of Storms in Azshara has a better drop rate, but also requires a higher fishing skill and is no where near a flight point.
Also, I remember fishing around Feathermoon Stronghold, on the coast, not the island.
You forgot the fishing line that will enchant your fishing pole, it is the third reward from the fishing tournament

I bought 800 stonescale eal in phase 2 for 2g each, now they are up for 20g per stack. Will they increase even more phase 5?

There was a recipe that gave you the ability to see pools on your minimap. It's not in pservers, was it in vanilla or tbc?
Also, I remember being able to sit while fishing. Again this is not an option on pservers, but did this arrive with vanilla or tbc?
there is a book that can be found in the trunks you can fish on the pools, but apparently it was added in tbc

Is nightfin soup mana regen value correct? 162 mana per 5 seconds sounds like hell of a lot! it is ridiculous compared to Sagefish delight with 6 MP5)
Also, do you plan to do any leveling guide or tips? Would be nice to see some recommendations about Hearthstone (not game) usage, rested exp, efficient travel, etc.

Hey Frost, The icon on your video for Nightfin Soup says 162 mana every 5 seconds, but on the private server and Wowhead im looking at it says 8 mana per 5 seconds. Why is this?
It should be 8/mp5.

I made about 1/3rd of a lvl 60's wage on my lvl 19 twink doing homework at the meantime, playing vanilla for the low lvl WSG only and would not do so if I couldn't fish my gear.
Yes, fishing is THAT easy, please don't ruin the market by botting it.
I like the guide and I hope to meet genuine anglers when classic releases.

P.S. is there anything we know about what you call "Free fishing"? I've gathered a lot of loot info on Elysium, will that be useful for classic or did private servers just guess the loot-tables?
