When I initially got my Maxx, the ESC died after two weeks/5 runs. It was covered under warranty and the “new” one died after 3 years. They offered a new one for 50% off if you send in the old one for $60. Not bad for a brand new 4s. I don’t know what components Traxxas is using, but my chinesium trucks, while very bad quality, are still going strong on original ESCs. They are over 5 years old.
My MAXX v2 is 3months old and got the blinking lights of death however the hobby store changed the connection to EC5 so not sure if warranty will work for it now
