We can never forget our music composers who brought alive the movies to give full impact of every scene in the film, Sir Jerry Goldsmith's touch of brilliance in each and every score is felt completely, just imagine if he is senior to John Williams, he must be great, he is great, treasure of talent and skill....

Went to see him at the London Barbican before he died. Just scraped in there to see (hear) one of my all time fave film composers. He was a real Gent and open to Q&A's etc. R.i.p. Jerry.

Goldsmith introduced ALIEN very graciously, considering what was done to his music for the film. What he presents here SHOULD HAVE BEEN the end title music to that film, and I'm so glad it lived on after the movie!

I think Ridley Scott regretted doing that, otherwise he wouldn't reused that theme in Prometheus and Alien Covenant

He was truly the contemporary master of counterpoint. Too bad this wasn't recorded in high def. Sounds very tinny.

That full orchestra arrangement of Hoosiers is incredible.

I keep coming back to it. The part at 39:44 is my favorite, listen to those horns! Jerry was the best at writing counterpoint like that.

Boredom Ensues Jerry was one of the few composers that can bring out the full nobility of the horns. Lionheart, First Knight, The Ghost and the Darkness, The Wind and the Lion; even the Universal Pictures Fanfare... I love Jerry Goldsmith in full brass mode. I think he got that from his teacher Miklos Rozsa.

I don't mean this too harshly, but the LSO's performance is not up to the level of the Philharmonia's (the Goldsmith Barbican concert that was released in the late 1980's on tape/record) and it's nowhere near the level of the actual original soundtrack releases (often featuring the National Philharmonic Orchestra), I know not everyone was happy with the concert arrangements of some of the scores (I understand why a concert peformance can't be the same as a film score recording). Still, Goldsmith was an extremely talented and professional man and it's remarkable to think back over his career as a whole.

I agree. It may have been an off night for them. The LSO I have heard in person and they were stellar on that particular occasion. But here there are some missteps.

I haven't heard that recording, and despite the sound quality here, the performances seem pretty robust and expressive. It would be great if it was a clean/produced/mixed and mastered album.
There are some errors here and there, but they typically would have only a dress rehearsal and then the concert which really isn't a lot of time to rehearse all this music and get all the deep level detail that Goldsmith would be able to get out in a film recording.
That aside still think it's pretty good. I'd be curious to know what does stand up for you.

Recently, I found a Goldsmith composition called Nicaragua from a movie "Under Fire" from 1983. This thing is so fascinating it was copied by Tarantino into Django. On youtube, it is called Django Unchained - Nicaragua Scene.

Jerry didn't get along with Stallone? Strange... they didn't make another film together ... I wonder what they disagreed on? I guess it's why neither of them really have discussed the music at all. Too bad for the fans I guess.

I think Jerry was just telling a funny observation. Or maybe he mentioned Frank's song.
