Definitely i would love to see Raz grow up but would understand if they would tell the story of another my money is on Adam i find him to be a extremely endearing character
I just wanna see Helmut back in his body. My heart broke for Bob I just want him to be happy :( but if they do a next one I could see some of the older psychonauts passing away and Raz making a new team maybe dogen with his powers under control
The developers CARED about this game. It was more important to them than it was to anyone that is was good, and you can tell. It’s a masterpiece through and through
I can agree with that Cuz that's a lot of blood sweat and tears and even heart put into Psychonauts 2 And seeing gameplay of it after being disappointed by the gameplay flaws of No Straight Roads made me sigh in joy and relief
Actually just realised when you mentioned Bob starting to fight back in his level. That for all of the major brains (Except for the starter levels and Fords mini levels) the characters are ultimately the ones who confront and master their issues. Raz isn't simply fixing something wrong in their mind, he's enabling them to help themselves.
yeah, that was my favorite part about the game tbh, instead of just drawing out what you need from them at the time like raz did at the asylum, he's actually making the effort to help these people learn how to cope and deal with their trauma. raz also starts asking for consent before entering minds
@@agentdopkant That technically happened with Teglee. How his and the last person's mind from the second game ended has a remarkable amount of similarities. I think the other main candidate would be Fred, considering he was always there.
This is the result of devs with actual PASSION towards their work getting the money and resources they need to make it reality. Easily my game of the year.
Psychonauts showcased the consequence of messing around inside of someone's mind and thoughts such as in Psychonauts through the mind of the insane asylum nightguard and the interconnected milkman conspiracy level. Once again a similar learning lesson for Raz makes a return in Psychonauts 2. through the mind of Raz's teacher and a game mechanic literally connecting adjacent thoughts in her head and making new pathway connections to other thoughts to progress further in game. I think the first major mindscape level with Raz's homeroom teacher and gambling addiction was a major shock to myself, like the goal of the class was to help out on the hotel mission and now we the player are fighting a giant octopus lady representing gambling addiction...crazy stuff.
I think it is pretty cool that there is similarity between the second mindscape level of Psychonauts 2 and the mindscape level of Psychonauts to find the milkman. There are similar consequences and learning lessons being presented from the first game being projected into the second game, at least one of the major characters did not suffer gambling addiction for long.
They should put out an update that adds slots specifically for Aesthetic pins. That would mean stuff like the dancing when idle, zipping your archetypes mouth etc.
this. the cosmetic pins are cool, but there's literally no reason to use them over functional ones without gimping yourself. not that that really matters though tbf, since the game is super easy, but still.
ahh but the outer wilds expansion echoes of the eye drops this year were it not for an expansion to the single greatest game ever made this would be a shoe in for game of the year
The only downsides to this game? -There should be more of it. Give us Otto's brain! And sidequests for some of the character arcs that didn't go far enough! And a secret ending! -Levitation never becomes infinite even at rank 102. -No cosmetic pin slots, dang it. -Those two goddamn figments in particular. You probably know the ones if you've 100%'d this game. -New game plus when?
Something I would have loved is an upgrade tied to like rank 90 or something. Which basically gives an audio que for searching for those last figments in each level. Basically a "Your close to 100%'ing the game legit, here is the last little push to make it less stresful"
I feel like they nerfed Levitation specifically because of how speedrunners used it to skip most of the first game. Otto is kind of an odd case. When you see his machines, you'd think he's the cold anti-social type who's locked in his lab all day, but when you speak with him, he's actually pretty warm and understanding. He also doesn't show much mental trauma from the Deluge of Grolovia. Even while the others were mourning, he pushed forward, and is seen happily cutting the ribbon to the motherlobe in one of the photos while the others are still in distress. I wonder if he suffers from some level of sociopathy.
I love how Double Fine is so open about the inner workings compared to most over companies. They released lots of update videos over the last year, revealing some stuff about the late-stages of development of the game, especially when the pandemic hit and most of the development was at home. This industry has too much secrecy, it's refreshing to see someone open up and have said opening-up not be about some controversy. Also, I got this game with the intent of seeing how well my computer can run a modern release. Despite having a few crashes before I underclocked my computer's memory, I've had fun, and I fully intend on completing this game really soon. Working on my own game distracted me though, now that I've no fears about my computer crashing while saving again due to how well my computer could handle this game (post-underclocking that is).
My GOTY so far, it's so full of imagination, tons of SOUL, and really fun. The writing is so top notch, it's amazing how many plot threads from the first game were resolved in this. It was well worth the wait and you would do a disservice to yourself by not playing it.
Figments of imagination is probably my favorite collectible in any game, especially in this game where they made more sense, not only are they collectibles but they add a lot of environmental storytelling.
@@نونيم-ي4ح It seems like everything from the collectables to the enemies are designed in a way to make total sense why they exist in someone's mind. Enemies like Censors, Panic Attacks, Judges, etc. They all exist in everyone's mind and are indeed things that can hold you back. A perfect marriage of enemy design and world design
Almost seems like a gold star on Microsoft's part where recent investments in games like Cuphead and Psychonauts 2 have provided us with such fantastic titles. Not many "console exclusives" but no denying that recent games out of the game studios have been top-notch. Don't know if we will see a 3rd game or not (although I wouldn't complain), but this was definitely a fantastic game and Double Fine should be taking a bow for what they made.
@@KKarkatVantas That doesn't make sense though. Double Fine has already said they cut content because they didn't have funding. Without Microsoft, the game would have been worse in their opinion.
I've been disappointed in how formulaic some of the games pushed by Microsoft were, such as the 4 players co-op template they seemed enamoured with (State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves, Grounded), but I'm glad to see them branch out with strong single-player experiences too. I was a bit worried when they bought some studios focused on single-players games (like InXile and Obsidian), but this is a reassuring release. I don't think the game would have been this good without Microsoft funding it.
@@KKarkatVantas Double Fine notably mentioned that Microsoft didn't get involved with the game much. Microsoft provided them with the resources they needed, but unless Double Fine THEMSELVES asked for Mircosoft's help/notes on a matter (like how they were able to make contact with an organization for mental health that Microsoft had connections to) then Microsoft wouldn't get involved
spoilers in this comment! Beware! I think It was implied that Bob's mom was also dealing with Alcoholism, when you reach the end of his first bottle, you can see the greenhouse was full of of Empty bottles, presumably with liqueur, so it's possible that she basically drank herself to death, and that Alcoholism is a thing Bob unwillingly inherited. Also I Really find the Literal interpretations quite fun. Bob's Bottles are literal "Bottles of Shame"
@@spartan-0295 Indeed it is not, but my Mom still lives in through me. Of course I don’t water the seeds of alcoholism by staying sober, but I water the seeds of her positivity she would share when times got tough. She was good at bringing up others when they were down, and I try to keep that going.
One of the memory vaults you find in that level shows Bob going into her greenhouse for the first time after her funeral and finding hundreds of bottles. Earlier in the level it has young Bob asking why she spends so much time in there and why he can't come in, so yeah bit more than implied imo
Psychonauts 2 is a perfect love letter to their fans who have waited so long for this. When i saw the trailer i was a little unsure but it knock it out of the park
Man can u play the second without having played the first? I just got back to console and I don’t feel like playing such an old game. But this game looks cool and fun. Normally not my type of game I would say, but seems like there’s something very cool about it.
@@HawkNocturnal if you dont want to play the first game, but want a bit of context before starting 2 then id suggest watching gameplay of the story first, and also i think it is summarized at the beginning of the second game
@@emo-nordegraf Thanks for the response. 🙏🏻 Think I will just try with the summary in the second game. It looks to fun to pass on and since I just back to console it looks like a good game to start out with.
Interesting that you mentioned the characters in the new game being "secluded" from each other. You're not wrong, but I was thinking just the opposite. 🤔 In this game, most of the characters whose minds you go into know each other, and you get to explore not only their minds but their relationships with other characters. Psychonauts 1 has a lot of great levels, but many of those characters felt like they had nothing to do with each other. I never got the sense that any of the asylum patients interacted or even acknowledged each other's existence until the very end, even though they make up almost half of the game's mental worlds. And aside from Boyd, they're insulated from the events of the rest of the game. Psychonauts 2 is much tighter, thematically.
True! All of the characters are connected, but they wound up being secluded from the others for various reasons. Like how Bob is in his greenhouse or Cruller literally fractured his mind.
@@chantolove Of course, and both games have their strengths. In the first game each of the mental patients have their own unique stories that can stand on their own without relying on the others, and in the new game they all tie into each other and bring out each other's strengths. And each game is written to work around whichever it went with.
Waited 16 years for this game and its above and beyond expectations Also one of the few games ive fully 100%'d lmao absolutely cemented itself as one of my favorite games ever
the game is literally taking me back to the good old days of platformers, i don't know how many times i got mind blown by the level design in this game. goty 2021 so far for me.
This game was fun, inventive, and made me feel many things. I loved it and kept saying to myself “this game is so good” while playing. The narrative was AMAZING
I am beyond happy to hear that Jirard loved this game even more than the first one. This is a sequel that seemed likely to never exist, and now that it's out people know that it's a modern masterpiece.
I feel like a game like this is so important nowadays because it highlights the importance of mental health. A topic I don't think was talked about much when the first game came out.
@Zachary Erickson Correction: The game awards that were decided by “professional critics” were all handed to one game that didn’t deserve it. The one award decided by actual gamers went to Ghost of Tsushima. Get back under Neil’s desk, and wipe your chin for god’s sake.
I am currently playing this game, and I love it. The level designs are awesome. Now I want a level on how my mind would look like. I am currently trying to 100% complete it. I actually tried to apply at Double Fine as a concept artist, it would be so cool to work with Tim Schafer and work on the crazy levels.
@@FelisImpurrator no, I never got a response. It would be so cool to work with Tim Schafer, and it would be nice since the studio is in San Francisco, I have family on my Dad’s side that live in the area.
Everything you just said in this 25 minute review is 100% true: Psychonauts 2 is quite possibly the best game of 2021. However, I might not recommend playing on a base Xbox One, if you can help it. I had plenty of technical issues, like framerate drops, long load times (30 seconds on average, my best guess), and multiple crashes. Didn't have any glitched Achievements though... But if the *system* I played on was my only issue, that kinda shows how good the game is on its own. Also, I had the same exact problem with the Figments in Bob's Bottles. I feel your pain.
I still think the minds from the first game were better. Each one felt like they were built around a unique concept and had a distinct identity, whereas the minds in 2 felt like they were built from modular pieces. Here's a 2D section, the ball section, etc. I mean, it's probably due to Doublefine building a proper framework before starting on level design. It just feels like they lost something between being a ragtag group of ex-Lucasart devs and becoming a legitimate well known indie developer. I will agree that how Raz deals with the trauma in each mind is much better this time around. The one that stood out to me was Compton's Cookoff. Raz would give Compton the chance to speak up for himself, and would only cut in when the situation started to go south. He would also suggest taking a break to relax. In this sense, Psychonauts 2 portrays the agency as counselors and therapists, rather than psychic secret agents. I do hope that they do another game that's more in line with the casino heist, or the kinds of missions that we see Sasha and Milla in during their memory vaults. I felt the pin system was unnecessary. I liked how you could customize Raz, but only allowing 3 pins makes it feel restrictive, especially when deciding between practical boosts and cool cosmetic options. Making some of them passive upgrades, such as VIP discount, or optional toggles would have been a better way to go about it, in my opinion. At the very least, a way to upgrade the number of pin slots would have helped. I did something similar as Jirard, and equipped pins that would boost my psitanium income. The main difference is that I would manually equip VIP discount every time I visited the Ottomatic.
The minds in the first one are much more visually distinct, but I think the minds in the second game are much stronger thematically. All are fantastic!
It is also noted that the minds remembered the most are from Linda onwards, basically when Psychonauts’ mental levels become a lot more gimmicky and like random levels. Good random levels with good mental illness metaphors (except Linda) informing good design, but it is noted that the 4th-2nd last mental levels (Gloria, Edgar, and Fred) are just very well-done and distinct fetch quests in that while you are fixing their minds, you are doing it to gain access to the upper floors to the asylum. No more, no less. That is, the strength of Psychonauts was its levels, not the overarching stories, the characters, or the strange revelations about stuff (especially considering Coach Oleander is not kicked out of the Psychonauts for what he attempted). Psychonauts 2 has great levels with similar art styles, but in return it now has neat revelations, stories, and characters that you are forced to learn their shared history, giving depth.
Btw, they just released a Quality of life update, and it helps completionists, SO MUCH, because it gives you a camera filter that helps you find the figments
I was legit in love with every moment I played this game. The completion process is a bit rough but I can totally see myself doing this game to 100% again in the future. Great episode as always my dude!
I actually got a completion glitch as well. One of the crate keys in Green Needle Gulch randomly unchecked, even though the listing clearly showed I collected all the chests. Thankfully, the keys and chests have no actual achievements on steam, so it wasn’t as heartbreaking.
Same here, something about not exiting clairvoyance soon enough or exiting it too soon. I spent hours combing that gulch until I gave up, watched a video, and realized I’d already “completed” it
Bobs level is insanely clever and well written, and the moth being a stroke of genius. I almost teared up throughout the level, as the heartbreak from watching bobs trauma is deep. Comptons level is also good, but on a more personal level. The feeling of anxiety, judgement and longing for isolation is too real. This game is an 11/10.
playing this currently. still early in the game. Have not played much platformers over the years. Replaying the first one again, and playing the sequel so far, has been such a unique and completely rewarding experience.
This was probably one of the best games I've played this year, the story was fantastic and it really affected it me. I will be surprised if I don't see it end up on some top game lists this year.
props to microsoft for saving this game, props to double fine for making a game that not only deals with the topic of mental health but doing it well while also giving you a game that is fun to actually play, and props to Jirard and the gang for reviewing this game so well while entertaining us
Beyond a couple figments (looking at you, grass 'n bananas), I actually had the most trouble with (naturally) popping the achievement for using a dream fluff. Unless there's a manual way to use them, I just never played poorly enough to need the on-death emergency heal. The only time I ever got close, I hadn't bought any yet and I scraped by the fight successfully anyway. I did later get the achievement by running myself into danger, but still...
I love the little Easter egg or surprise with Raz and his archetype. I was surprised to hear them but also was giggling like a school girl. It was so cute and a nice surprise.
I love how when he listed the parts of the game you could explore he said the "Questionable Area?" even including the inflection to make it sound like a question.
I also completed Psychonauts 2, managed to get all of the achievements, but... a glitch happened, and said I had missed a key in Green Needle Gulch. But... I collected both there... and even opened both chests... luckily, the glitch only affected an in-game statistic, so I wasn't bothered too much.
Keys aren't exclusive to the areas they're found in. Ex: you can use a key you found in the motherlobe on a chest in the questionable area. Are you sure you got both keys in that area though?
This game brought me a sense of child like wonder that I don’t think I’ve felt since I was 6 years old, the first time I played Mario 64. Just brilliant. So much fun, from start to finish.
To Jirard "The Completionist" Khalil and to his staff: I want to take this time to tell you all that you are doing amazing jobs on these videos. With people being people and RUclips being RUclips, I have a feeling you get downcast and frustrated sometimes when things don't go well and the comments get more and more negative and inappropriate, but I want to tell you that you're doing a wonderful job and I want to give you all the props! Often people aren't told they're doing a great job because "that's what is expected from them" but I want to tell you that I laugh, cry and am greatly entertained by your videos. I always anticipate a video drop, but understand when delays happen. Sincerely, I hope you're all doing well and know that people like me really appreciate the work and effort that not only goes into the videos but in the day-to-day work that you do. I hope this message finds you well and may fortune smile upon you. MTFBWYA, Live-long-and-prosper, and See you later, Cowboy!
Im at the last mission right now.. I think.. but from what I can tell so far its been an amazing game no doubt, definitely worth the wait. They put a lot of effort into this one and you can clearly see that.
Going to like the video, can't watch this till I finish the game(can't risk spoilers). Bought and played the first game and I immediately had to buy and play the sequel. I'm loving it so far. The guys at double fine are awesome. I am the milk man my milk is delicious

As a fan of Psychonauts, this was everything I could have asked for and then some. Sure some bits of the story are a tad bit predictable but for every predictable bit there's an unexpected twist that just pulls you right back in again. I want MORE of this! Also more Jack Black singing please! and while we're at it Double Fine, please for the love of the Metal Gods, GIVE US BRUTAL LEGEND 2 ALREADY!
I hope it wins best platformer, Tim Schafer and his team deserve it. It's a miracle that this game exists to begin with, it's a sequel to one that came out over a decade ago. Somehow, it's excellent (Not saying that they were lucky, more like it's near impossible for a game that went through what this one went through to turn out great).
Just like the first game, although I thought I was paying enough attention when I played, a lot of the underlying mental health themes & metaphors went over my head. Also just like the first game, I'm really thankful to Jirard for breaking them down in an easy-to-understand way here.
It feels like it's been some time since we've seen a game get a "Complete It" rating, and I'm so glad that this one made the cut. It absolutely deserves it
I completely agree with this review! I just 100% completed this earlier this week also and it was one of the best gaming experiences I have had in years.
Is really rewarding when you play a sequel to a game you like that's better that the game that came before. Unfortunately is not something that usually happens but when it does is just awesome.
Hi Jirard! I just want to thank you again. Your video on Psychonauts 1 was really intriguing to me. You rarely give a game a "Complete it" ranking. You got me digging into the first game deeper and deeper and I fell in love with every detail I consumed! You're absolutely right on this one! This game has HEART!! And every detail was so thoughtfully placed. My heart was so full the whole way though!!! I'm glad we all get to enjoy this together this time!
I absolutely love Psychonauts 2. One of the best games of 2021 so far. Though it's not flawless (cough Emotional Baggage in Compton's Cookoff cough) and the whole can't achieve 102% completion before the final boss thing but whatever. 9/10 Can't wait to play it again.
Quick tip! if you’re short on psitanium and need more quick, just use the mental tax pin, go to the collective unconscious and spam the mental connection in circles
It made so much sense to make the story more personal this time around for two reasons, it feels like the next logical step after 1 and rhombus of ruin, and it helps to make new players fall in love with the world and characters the way returning players did
I wanted to share a story about this game, a good family friend of mine is a tattoo artist and a massive Double Fine fan to the point where he actually tattooed their logo on his ankle. He posted about it online and one of the double fine people saw it and invited him to visit their studio in San Francisco. He brought me along and it was honestly one of the greatest times of my life. Everyone on the team was super cool and really proud of the work they were doing on the game. I got to see some of the work in progress art and features and all of it had so much care put into it. We got introduced to everyone on the team and they even gave us some merch that was apparently left over from their online store completely free I even got an signed Broken Age artbook from Tim Schafer. I couldn't be happier for the team that the game is a success.
I haven't played it yet, but I desperately want to! I loved the first game a whole bunch and I'm super excited to play the sequel. No other game comes close with level design imo
This is actually the first game I've 100-percented!! You'd think I would've done more by now but i guess those parts of the game kinda just dulls out for me, but I had so much fun completing Psychonauts 2!!! Really goes to show how great it is when someone like me can sit down and complete all the way through!
oh man oh MAN! i put off watching this on initial release because i wanted NOTHING spoiled, then ended up replaying the game so many times I forgot it was even on my list! just hearing the music in the background is giving me goosebumps i LOVE psychonauts more than I can even put into words and i'm so glad the dev team was able to release this masterpiece. glad you enjoyed it jirard!!
I'm glad other people are enjoying Psychonaughts 2. I had a lot of fun with this game and I'm looking forward to playing it again or collecting all the items. Great video and I'm happy you had a great time with it too!
Near perfect game imo. Literally my only 2 complaints are that the equippable pin amount should be upped slightly maybe to 5 or 6 instead of just 3, and also the final upgrade available at intern level 102 (which is only possible to achieve after 100% completion) which removes the cooldown for all psi powers is useless as you can only get some of the collectibles after completing the game. Maybe there should be some sort of new game plus type mode so you can actually use all of the cool upgrades and stuff in a fresh save file. It's not a complaint, but I also think it would be a cool thing to have a way to fully re-play missions instead of just revisiting brains in the brain tumbler for finding collectibles.
Gonna be honest, I'm kinda surprised they didn't bring back fan favorite Boyd Cooper. I could even see a valid arguement for him being there without being forced: Maybe the Psychonauts want to help him cause they feel personally responsible since Oleander implanted the Milkman personality into his mind and Raz woke it up. And Raz's jaunt through Hollis' Hot Streak would make him realize the terrible thing he did to Boyd would motivate him to try to fix his mistake. So obviously this means the return to Boyd's mind would come right after Hollis' Hot Streak
This game was amazing. I loved playing it so much. And I especially loved seeing Sasha and Milla be confirmed as a couple. I shipped that SO HARD and it was like they saw the fans and said “yeah sure ok”. That made me so incredibly happy.
The Otto-Shot camera filter that highlights collectable items is the best quality of life item that got added during the patching process. And I completely overlooked it during my playthrough.
I’ve completed this game too. And honestly it was so good that a part of me wants to go through and do it all a second time. It was such a fun journey. The wait was worth it and more.
I watch like one of these a week and still get surprised by Beardless Jirard in the intro; those headshots were fire dog ty for letting Kevin share that with us. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on this gem, love the First Psychonauts!
The banana in Bob's Bottles was the last figment I found too! So trolly. I don't usually complete games like this, but I genuinely enjoyed getting this one to 100% in spite of the banana.
Just beat this game on PS5 and the end game finish collecting tools the game has added are AMAZING! The photo mode camera has a collectible friggin filter! If your last trophy was the one with grandma and Ford. Mine glitched out too. I just jumped around the house. Climbed the ladder and then talked to them again and it did pop.
2 things i loved. 1) Trumans remark about kissing at camp and being Glade that didn't happen which means Lili has to tell her dad again and a part of me wants to see Trumans real response. 2) Double fine actually worked with a company that assists mental illnesses to try to make them as realistic as possible while keeping the levels fun and interesting.
I absolutely love this gem of a game, my favorite platformer collectathon of all time and it will take something truly extraordinary to beat this.. also, this is the only game ever that I have actually bought a copy of after playing the game from gamepass, its that good and I wanted to support the people who made this blast if absolute joy..
Best game I've played in a long, long time. This is the kind of quality you get when you have a development team that is truly passionate about their craft.
this game is amazing and has had a major impact on my life. I had started to go to therapy a bit before the game was out, and I was struggling a lot because this was some heavy trauma that I had bottled up for over a decade. BECAUSE OF THIS GAME I have made HUGE steps in self-recovery. I now visualize everything and think about the root of the cause I now have a "Boss" that I'm working on, being my main trauma. I've been able to draw it, and now I plan on showing my therapist. its the best game I've ever played, and changed my life.
The way this game has Raz post-Hollis ask for consent to enter minds was really cool. Love this kind of subtle character development.

I think the first major mindscape level with Raz's homeroom teacher and gambling addiction was a major shock to myself, like the goal of the class was to help out on the hotel mission and now we the player are fighting a giant octopus lady representing gambling addiction...crazy stuff.
Darwin had a fucking stroke trying to read this
I think it is pretty cool that there is similarity between the second mindscape level of Psychonauts 2 and the mindscape level of Psychonauts to find the milkman. There are similar consequences and learning lessons being presented from the first game being projected into the second game, at least one of the major characters did not suffer gambling addiction for long.
Simplification: Psychonauts showed how gaslighting is bad and could mentally destroy something, by letting raz give their teacher a gambling addiction
They should put out an update that adds slots specifically for Aesthetic pins. That would mean stuff like the dancing when idle, zipping your archetypes mouth etc.
Why would you want to zip his mouth 😭😭😭
A feature really needed at launch
this. the cosmetic pins are cool, but there's literally no reason to use them over functional ones without gimping yourself.
not that that really matters though tbf, since the game is super easy, but still.
That'd be nice, but also why would you mute the Archetype?! It's literally GiR!
Exactly! I want that rainbow telekinesis badge and the multicolored levitation ball 24/7
Currently this is my Game of 2021. I had such a blast playing through this.
ahh but the outer wilds expansion echoes of the eye drops this year were it not for an expansion to the single greatest game ever made this would be a shoe in for game of the year
one of the best games i've ever played tbh
Absolutely the same here, it's so much fun and the story is surprisingly gripping. My only complaint is collecting the final few figments for 100%
Same
Do I need to have played the first game to know what’s going on in the second?
The only downsides to this game?
-There should be more of it. Give us Otto's brain! And sidequests for some of the character arcs that didn't go far enough! And a secret ending!
-Levitation never becomes infinite even at rank 102.
-No cosmetic pin slots, dang it.
-Those two goddamn figments in particular. You probably know the ones if you've 100%'d this game.
-New game plus when?
If you mean the ones in Hollis’s Hot Streak, yes. Those took me days to find
Kinda bummed about the reduced levitation jump height.
I actually thought Otto was the mole bc you couldn't go into his brain
Also I thought it was awesome that they have a little Invader Zim reunion with Gir’s voice actor, Rikki Simons, to voice Archtype Raz.
My GOTY so far, it's so full of imagination, tons of SOUL, and really fun. The writing is so top notch, it's amazing how many plot threads from the first game were resolved in this. It was well worth the wait and you would do a disservice to yourself by not playing it.
Psychonauts 2 arguably has Heart, Soul and Intelligence in spades, i mean come on... "emotional baggage", tell me that isnt clever.
Hey, I'm not sure if you know this. But try jumping in the water in the postgame. There's a lovely little change to the reset system there.
it also stops damaging you as well. which is super helpful
Because of how Raz had overcome the “curse” by the end of the game right?
@@MrMnM-ed5ht Yea, instead of dragging him down it literally lifts him up. He can't swim still, but the hand of Golochio is in HIS corner now.
I disagree, I think the rushed ending is BECAUSE of Microsoft prefering to cut content and deliver on time, then delaying it and making it better.
@@KKarkatVantas That doesn't make sense though. Double Fine has already said they cut content because they didn't have funding. Without Microsoft, the game would have been worse in their opinion.
@@KKarkatVantas double fine said that microsoft funding allowed them to add back in cut content like the boss fights.
I was thinking the same thing and I thought I got it wrong after watching this.
As someone who lost their Mom to alcoholism, this one is rough.
@@sowmindful1501 same here. It's not something anyone should have to go through.
I think they can both be right. Isolation is an intentional theme, rather than a side effect of the design.
@@chantolove Of course, and both games have their strengths. In the first game each of the mental patients have their own unique stories that can stand on their own without relying on the others, and in the new game they all tie into each other and bring out each other's strengths. And each game is written to work around whichever it went with.
I wish more people would buy it
Waited 16 years for this game and its above and beyond expectations
Also one of the few games ive fully 100%'d lmao absolutely cemented itself as one of my favorite games ever

the game is literally taking me back to the good old days of platformers, i don't know how many times i got mind blown by the level design in this game.
goty 2021 so far for me.
So happy to be part of those who helped make this game being done with Fig! Psychonauts 1 was my favorite game of all time. Now it's Psychonauts 2!
With a development story like this, Psychonaughts 2 shouldn't exist... but it does! And it's such an amazing game!
This game was fun, inventive, and made me feel many things. I loved it and kept saying to myself “this game is so good” while playing. The narrative was AMAZING
It definitely was, especially later into the game.
I honestly was not expecting any of that
I am beyond happy to hear that Jirard loved this game even more than the first one. This is a sequel that seemed likely to never exist, and now that it's out people know that it's a modern masterpiece.
Helmut and Bob being together makes me happy

I love how the community accepts it, too
I feel like a game like this is so important nowadays because it highlights the importance of mental health. A topic I don't think was talked about much when the first game came out.
Ironically, Microsoft was originally the publisher for the first Psychonauts before dropping it and Schaffer had to go to Majesco.
I would be pissed if this isn't a nominee for game of the year
This game deserves the trophy
It's probably gonna be another good-looking PS exclusive
Don’t get your hopes up. Game Award shows are rigged. Remember last year?
@Zachary Erickson Correction: The game awards that were decided by “professional critics” were all handed to one game that didn’t deserve it. The one award decided by actual gamers went to Ghost of Tsushima. Get back under Neil’s desk, and wipe your chin for god’s sake.
Sadly the game awards have gone downhill a long time ago. Its probably going to some SJW pandering simulator like last year.
They get back to you? Double Fine sounds like a neat place to work.
@@FelisImpurrator no, I never got a response. It would be so cool to work with Tim Schafer, and it would be nice since the studio is in San Francisco, I have family on my Dad’s side that live in the area.
@@KaeMcSpadden Dang. Good luck though, you have neat art (and voice range).
@@FelisImpurrator thank you. It’s hard being an artist and a voice actor since they are both very competitive.
Ran beautifully on PC (with a 3070) game looked great and frames never dipped below like 100-120. even in the more active parts of the game
Runs fine on the Series S
@@RysloFC Yeah, well, I don't have one of those cuz I'm broke...
1440p 120fps on Series X butter
Had a couple framerate dips on a base PS4, but nothing that crashed the game.
My niece saw me playing this game once, and then started pestering me about it when I would play some other game.
Psychonauts 2 is THAT impactful.
I spent hours combing that gulch until I gave up, watched a video, and realized I’d already “completed” it
This game was absolutely amazing. It was a few parts that frustrated me gameplay wise but overall they knocked it out the park
The moment when the hand puppets came off and it was on Boole’s hand the whole time was freaking great.
It’s nice to know that Psychonauts fans are happy with the new game! I’ve been waiting for this to launch before diving in to the original
playing this currently. still early in the game. Have not played much platformers over the years. Replaying the first one again, and playing the sequel so far, has been such a unique and completely rewarding experience.
This was probably one of the best games I've played this year, the story was fantastic and it really affected it me. I will be surprised if I don't see it end up on some top game lists this year.
props to microsoft for saving this game, props to double fine for making a game that not only deals with the topic of mental health but doing it well while also giving you a game that is fun to actually play, and props to Jirard and the gang for reviewing this game so well while entertaining us
I dig this game. Thanks to you and your team for taking this trip and making the video!
I’ve been looking forward to this
Same yo
Beyond a couple figments (looking at you, grass 'n bananas), I actually had the most trouble with (naturally) popping the achievement for using a dream fluff. Unless there's a manual way to use them, I just never played poorly enough to need the on-death emergency heal. The only time I ever got close, I hadn't bought any yet and I scraped by the fight successfully anyway. I did later get the achievement by running myself into danger, but still...
I kept walking past those grass and banana figments over and over until i accidentally found them.
I love the little Easter egg or surprise with Raz and his archetype. I was surprised to hear them but also was giggling like a school girl. It was so cute and a nice surprise.
Honestly, The Questionable Area just blew me out of the water. It reminded me a lot of Gravity Falls and the atmosphere was just fantastic.
I love how when he listed the parts of the game you could explore he said the "Questionable Area?" even including the inflection to make it sound like a question.
I started playing through it about a week ago, I’m having a lot of fun so far
It absolutely deserves it
Holy shit Grant Kirkhope arranged your new theme song?? I was wondering why it sounded so theatrical & layered. Sounds freaking amazing.
I just 100% this yesterday. Such a good game, glad you enjoyed it!

Thought you do No More Heroes 3 first but glad you are doing a video in this because I didn't know how much longer I could wait
This game was a masterpiece. I loved every aspect of it and the story put me in the feels.
Gonna be honest, I'm kinda surprised they didn't bring back fan favorite Boyd Cooper. I could even see a valid arguement for him being there without being forced:
Maybe the Psychonauts want to help him cause they feel personally responsible since Oleander implanted the Milkman personality into his mind and Raz woke it up.
Psychonauts is one of my top favorite games. Psychonauts 2 came out beautifully. A worthy sequel and worth the wait. I love it! 🧠❤
The Otto-Shot camera filter that highlights collectable items is the best quality of life item that got added during the patching process. And I completely overlooked it during my playthrough.

This game series has always looked facinating to me. I may have to check this one out.
I don't complete games often, but this one was actually fun to 100%. What a fun game.
I'm hungover but your speech about the studio brought a tear to my eye. I can't wait for the 2 Player productions documentary 😍
My favorite completionist
Honestly, my Game of the Year. Such a great work from a smaller developer and massive kudos to Xbox & Microsoft for making this happen. Thank you
I'm mostly through it and this has been one of the highlights of all my time playing games. I love Psychonauts 2.
I now visualize everything and think about the root of the cause
I now have a "Boss" that I'm working on, being my main trauma. I've been able to draw it, and now I plan on showing my therapist.
its the best game I've ever played, and changed my life.
Ever since I finished the game a couple of weeks ago I’ve just been waiting to see this notification 🙏☺️
