From the mind of Tim Schafer, the man behind Day of the Tentacle ( • Day Of The Tentacle | ... ), Sam and Max ( • Sam & Max: Hit the Roa... ), and many other unique games comes Pschonauts. In a world of psychic agents that dive through the mind itself to solve psychosis you play as Raz, a fresh agent, who must stop the evil plot of stealing powerful psychic brains to fuel world-domination goals. A cult classic full of its own unique charm, yet reminiscent of a Tim Burton look and feel, Psychonauts has persisted and been appreciated consistently since the original Xbox. And with the sequel Psychonauts 2 possibly (and finally) releasing in 2019.

What would your personal level look like and how would it be played?
Some dark room filled with games and a TV that adapts to the best way to play said game. You must complete every game 100%, no matter what.
My Psychonauts level? Mandy of Billy and Mandy, sitting on top of a scythe, a script in one hand, knife in the other, while a radio voice is telling me to walk at the _:36s every couple hours from 8-4. I have no idea how it would play, but that's the basic idea.
Mine would be like a water level, but deep sea water. It would be dark and you would move slowly. There would be a single point of light in the distance. Things will get in your way and you knock you of course. They will have off hit boxes so that even though you know you dodged it you still get hit. As you get closer to the light hands reach out to grab you, but they are pulling you up towards the light. You get there and wake up. Barely remembering it. Then you get on with the game.
There would be giant creative places, but after a little bit it would change
Signifying how I change my thoughts of different things and how my creations in Lego are always changing and how I can change feelings very fast.
Mine would consist of 3 areas,
A Big Arcade with my inner self indefinitely playing Video games in a big and suspiciously mech-shaped chair thing (similar to the Critics balcony-thing),
A medium sized animation studio / movie theater that isn’t exactly run well
And a destroyed school, COVERED in censors.
The level would mostly be about trying to turn off the monitor that’s distracting me so I can finally get back to helping the other 2 areas, which would involve going through the 3 areas to get pieces of a badge, with a mini-boss that is a rip-off of Mario.
After you get the badge ( I’ll put Electrokenisis as a reference), you have to confront the monitor at the top of the arcade and destroy it using the new ability.
This represents a time when I used to be quite the procrastinator / Video game fanatic. I stopped doing much of drawing and BARELY cared about school (let alone actually do my work). The monitor represents everything that distracted me during this time in my life (being in the arcade because that’s what I usually did). Luckily I’m past that phase, and now I’m doing fine.
I have been a silent viewer for years and i just wana say Thank you for years of entertainment.
yes this guy has been going to work lately and you almost feel like you need to say something
Thanks Jirard for taking the time to sincerely talk about mental health.
Yeah. Seriously, that chart is an amazing way of detailing out what all of us experience in our own way. I've received help and got my own therapy. I lucky to be surrounded by a supportive family and me supporting them right now. I feel mentally stable thanks to them and me helping them. All I hope is one day that each individual could at least get to a point in life where there is this 'peaceful' feeling based on looking back at each good and bad experience and tell themselves, "Hey, I'm a good person, and I did good today for others."
It's a fear I share. My dad died because of Mental Dementia. I hope I haven't inherited that gene.
George Wilkinson damn I hope you are good right now

The fact that the rank 101 achievement is titled "Math Is Hard" makes me think they forgot that the punching minigame gives you a rank during development.
@Tin Watchman that doesn't make sense. why would they have to pad playtime by one rank? I really think it makes more sense if they just forgot.
Thanks for sharing your mind palace with us Jirard! Was a very special moment
I finally felt what Jirard had went through, after completing every FNAF game, (with the mountains) at that moment. Now of course, what will it truly look like for Jirard's level, if the Pschonauts 2 Development Team develops it?
I fucking love sherlock
Urban Kitsune Honestly I thought that was a Persona 5 reference lol.
@@bedazzlebub967 Kinda weird to just say that!
Just got to "This boulder represents my Mom" and before I watch any further I want to congratulate you on your courage.
Fun Fact: The one who voices Raz is Invader Zim's voice actor, Richard Horvitz.
He's also the the captain or Sargent alien in destroy all humans game
his normal voice is so high it almost sounds like it isn’t his
That explains why is voice is so familiar to me
You can really hear Zim leak through when you go to the Reception Campfire and have Raz do the Coache's speech.
And Dag the Beaver, stupid EEE! Spooty spoot!

MY FAVORITE GAME OF ALL TIME!! I COMPLETE IT ONCE A YEAR!!!
one that's neat two kaggie what are you doing here
Really? Once a year? You must be great at the game
A tradition
I bet you just react to someone completing it once a year.
@@DeftestAphid2 u must be really fun. I’m sure everyone enjoys your company and loves ya.
The inside of Jirards mind contains thousands of potential ideas for future games to complete, none of which are Yakuza 0
Why not Yakuza 0?
Yakuza what now?

If you think about it, The time that takes place between Psychonauts 1, The Rhombus of ruin, and 2 is only 3 days.
... what about that vr game
@@glitch5110 The Rhombus of Ruin is the VR game
@Zachary Erickson Having watched a youtuber play it, I'd like to think so - the gameplay is unique and interesting and takes advantage of the limitations of the hardware fairly well. I don't remember the story, but I don't think I was dissatisfied with it? It wasn't psychonauts 1 level, but that's okay - I'm pretty sure it wasn't meant to be much more than a connector between 1 and 2.
Zachary Erickson i played it, it’s basically a point and click game in vr, and the artstyle translates insanely well to vr. It’s by far my favorite vr experience I’ve had so far.
I think Rank 101 is legitimately just a mistake, the steam achievement is even called "Counting is Hard"
Your pfp is disgusting dude.
@@Nitrodino7875 Why? It's just a picture of Peridot.
"Math is Hard"
Oh Rank 101 is completely a mistake. they flat out admitted it, and then made fun of it with the Achievement.
Is it a mistake? Usually there'd be a line of code preventing the level/rank from counting past a certain number. Maybe it was initially a mistake and during beta testing they decided not to remove any figments that would have made the number exceed 100. Then again, DK 64 has 102%, but I'm sure that was intentional given the collectibles in the game.
I just want to say that little explanation of how your psyche would meld in the Psychonauts world, was really endearing. It's always good to know what goes into your mind, and I'm glad you're being candid about it
OMG YES! Psychonauts actually gets attention! This game is so underrated!
I hate that everytime I bring up that game people think Im insane, because no one fucking remembers that game.
@@stevencooper1103 it's 5 dollars on PSN, I still don't see why a lot more people would ignore that price for a good game.

I never finished this game. That Meat Circus level brings a whole new meaning to meat sweats.
I love this game, but screw the meat circus.
I'm playing the game right now and found this video because I wanted to see what other people think about that last level.
I've enjoyed the game so far, but to me the meat circus is just bad level design and to me the controls don't seem to be precise enough for it.
@@harukiribati6669 Meat Circus is not very good...yeah

This is now my absolute favorite episode of The Completionist. The thorough discussion of his own past and tribulations is heavily relatable, and the discussion of mental illness made it even more personal. Having a traumatic past, dealing with mental illness (granted it's a mild case), and struggling with existential crises makes me relate with this video heavily.
Behold, Earth-2's version of Persona 5, only less thieving and more roasting marshmallows with your brain.
Both games have such radically different interpretations of the mental world, but both bring it to life in an amazing manner
If you have VR, you should give Psychonauts in The Rhombus of Ruin a play. It's simple, but still very enjoyable
I really wish it wasn't VR only.
He could play it. But he'd have no reason to make a video about it. There's nothing to COMPLETE in Rhombus of Ruin other than the story.
Thank you for sharing your level. I'll show you mine at Coxcon.
And thank you for talking about mental health.
Still looking forward to the sequel and been awhile since I played this game!🎮
This episode got suddenly real. In a very good way. I’m glad you decided to truly dive into this game and what it means instead of just complete it and talk about how fun it is. When you started on about your level, it really came to a head. Loss is hard. As I have dealt with the sudden passing of a sibling, you’re right. It never leaves. While with time it does get easy, it truly is always there.
“I am on the road crew. This is my stop sign.”
"Yes we are all on the road crew our backs are killing us"
Who is the milkman
"I am making a pie."
That personal mental health segment was beautiful. And using the fantastic Unravel soundtrack was the cherry on top.
My Grandma had Alzheimer’s disease, and she passed away pretty recently. I don’t understand what it is like to lose one’s own mother, but I do understand what it is like to lose someone to that disease, that corruption of the mind. It’s a scary thing to watch progress, and I’m glad you shared more about your recovery in this video. Keep up the amazing work, man. You are doing great.
It's been my dream that you'd complete this game for the show!! I'm so happy 😁
Dude, the part where you share your own level is so sweet and brave, and I really mean that as someone who has had to take a huge journey, and am still on this huge journey, of seeing therapists and of psychiatric appointments and medications. And I've gotten a lot better and more stable, and it's difficult but I'm a lot happier than I've ever been. And showing that vulnerability to express that introspection in your level design, that wasn't twisted at all, it was really brave and understandable. As someone who's life is centered around this, I really appreciate that.
Holy crap I subbed yesterday thinking it would be really cool if he did Psychonauts, then boom 1 day later here it is! It like I'm a damn wizard or something.
Wow Jirard... Just wow. You are wholesome. Thanks for the uplifting speech! And thanks so much for completing my favorite game of all time!
Finally my Beard Bro completes one of my FAVOURITE games EVER!!!
Same here dude. 👍
hes not your beard bro
@@MizuFujimori not that it's just psychonauts is also one of my favorite games of all time. :)
@@MizuFujimori My dude then.
Im replaying this now after beating part 2. Such a wonderful and fun game. I desperately hope ee don't have to wait 16 years for another adventure, because of all Double Fines work, this is the best.
The game definitely feels like it's from 2005, it has the finicky control endemic of all 2005 platformers that aren't 3d Mario, but it doesn't hurt the experience, it isn't punishing or overly difficult.
I personally think that its one of the most important gaming IP's of all time, and I wish more people would play it.
I literally just beat this game and loved every second of it. Happy to see you play it on the show and so soon after I finished it.
Same actually
Loving the Unravel music during the "my level" segment ❤
Adam T That game and it's soundtrack are seriously underrated
That was the most unexpectedly genuine and sincere moment when you shared your level. Instant subscribe. Thank you.
Man, you’re an inspiration. Cheers for staying so sincere and personable throughout everything this channel has experienced.
Gotta love remembering Shegor, Mr. Pokeylope the Turtle, and The Mutant Lungfish possibly all gettin it on.
How did I never appreciate the running away from a circus instead of to a circus. Genius
2 years later, gonna like my own comment, lol
And Psychonauts 2 is fucking DOPE, the only real negative I have is that it's over
Thank you for finally playing this game! One of my favorite games ever! Was waiting years for this review, made my day 100x better!
sometimes your videos are great. and times like these they are amazing because you can connect with what you put together
When you were talking about your own mind level it was really obvious that you were a bit nervous and embarrassed about how personal it was. It takes a lot of courage to talk so openly about yourself and I just wanted to give you a kudos for putting that in the video. You didn't have to do that, the video still would have been great, but that part put it over the top and really made it personal. Great stuff Jirard.
I hear nothing but good things about Psychonauts. Now I'm HYPE for Psychonauts 2
God, I wish the sequel lives up to this.
The game itself was revolutionary. I'm glad it's getting a sequel
Me three. Soon!
This was the first game I played on my Let's Play channel. I really really love it. And really hope the sequel holds up to the first one.
Thank you for including how you imagine a level based on your mind would work. I'm honestly not sure how mine would play, though I know its general themes would be trying to keep a fracturing family together while balancing with keeping myself taken care of.
Jirard, you playing Psychonauts makes me so happy. Thank you for your content. It’s top notch and one of the only reasons I even watch RUclips
Im so glad you finally covered this game and that you loved playing it since i grew up with this game and im also glad you took the time to reflect on yourself with your own mind which i can also relate to so thank you for that

This is my favorite 3d platformer of all time. I've been waiting so long for this.
I've been wanting to see you complete this for years, ever since I first started watching the show, back when I found you through your Borderlands video. I remember mentioning it a few times, before thinking "He has to get to it eventually. This game is MADE for the Completionist."
Glad to see the time has come! Nice job, Jirard.
The Steam version also has achievements. It is the definitive version in my opinion. I originally bought the Xbox version off Xbox's Marketplace but it had emulation graphical bugs on Xbox 360. Psychonauts is an underrated gem I played it back in 2012 when I was a teen, and it is one of the best platformers I've ever played. I am glad we are finally getting a sequel and that this game is starting to get recognition.
The PS4 version is pretty good too
So glad you guys did Psychonaughts! Fav title for sure, bless this content.
Jirard: I'm going to play the original Xbox version.
Me: *Has final level flashbacks*
(played on PS2 and PC care to fill me in pls)
@@mattglover560 I thought it was the same with the PS2 as well, but the final level was one of the most difficult and annoying levels ever. It was so bad that later versions of the game had it nerfed.
Huh, I never knew. I had the PS2 version but never really had that much trouble with the last level.
Even without the difficult gameplay, the Meat Circus is legitimately disturbing.
Lil Oly, his fucking bunny, and the Tunnel of Love can go to hell. The rest of the level is a fucking masterpiece tho.
Jirard I almost cried at the part when you were explaining your level
Yesss!!!! Ugh psychonauts has been my favourite game my whole life i've been waiting forever for you to do it and am so glad you have, i thought you would sometime soon since psychonauts 2 is coming out which i'm hyped as hell for so basically thank you for finally doing this game, i may like this game a little too much haha i go back and recomplete it every year and have done for the past 5 years now
It's 2019 and the original psychonauts gets attention... What a time to be alive.
I really was hoping he’d say, “in order to get the full psychonauts experience, I took a tab of acid”
It's not much, but you do get something for achieving Rank 101. If you re-enter your save file after beating the final boss in Meat Circus and use the Smelling Salts, you return to the Collective Unconscious where you get a special message from the developers :)
Please complete Brütal Legend another Double fine/ Tim schafer game and it's awesome!!!!!!!
My favorite part of that game will always be telepathically flopping your own brain around to solve a puzzle
Im glad you reveiw'd this. It made me think about the current state of games today, the meaning behind them, and compare it to games of older titles. Gotta say theres been a clear downhill trend in terms of narrative in games.
Personally, I found that punching minigame annoying, but it was the only reason I reached Rank 100. My "White Whale" with this game is getting all the Figments in the racing level. The place is so bright and colorful, the blasted things blend right in! I STILL haven't found them all.
This game is just incredible, I want to pick a favorite level...but it is so difficult. Very creative and a fun platformer. Ah, maybe the milkman stage, or the whole "war strategy" level.
Man.. that game had so much charm, this video makes me want to go back and complete it for Xrd time!!
That Unravel OST hit me so hard. Thank you so much for speaking out about your feelings.

As for the game this is one from my childhood that I never got to revisit. Thanks for reviewing it. =]

there would also be a small town with scary neighbors.
At first I was surprised you decided to share your personal story, I've never seen someone share something like this in such a public space. But, I hope you know how brave you are! It means a lot to me that you shared that as someone with depression, thank you so much and I'm so glad that you've enjoyed one of my favorite games ever!!
Black Velvet Villa is my favorite level anyone else like it or any other level, milk man conspiracy was also good too.
Both my favorite levels. Milk Man Conspiracy for the wacky, insane level and just probably one of the funniest levels because of the G-Men. Black Velvet Villa because of the story, the design (it's one of the most beautifully designed levels). This is by far my favorite game. Ive been for you to play this. More people need to play this
Life truly is a journey with it's ups and downs, thanks for sharing your level
Taking a step back and talking about yourself was definitely the highlight of the episode for me. Stay awesome my dude.
you probably wont read every comment looking for mind descriptions but here is mine:
i would discribe my mind as a lone tower standing in a harsh sandstorm with sand constantly leaking into the tower.
i am the caretaker of the tower wich sometimes feels 1000's of levels high. i clean up sand and organize all information inside the tower.
the inside of the tower is a giant library, all my knowlegde scattered about with sand everywhere.
if i wish to do anything my little me inside the tower needs to find a book about that 1 thing, while avoiding sand and racing to the spesific level in the tower that has said information. little my often panicks if the information takes too long to find.
my relationships are also books inside this library, just another book among thousands. the people that bother or have bothered me in my live are often heard in whispers inside the sandstorm, making it worse.
hope this was interesting for somebody :D
Dude, that talk with the mindlevel around 13 min? Thank you.

This episode might be the best example of why I watch your channel. It illustrates perfectly why you are actually creating completely new content and not just "simply" completing games.
Seems like you found a way to go platforming on real life, using the game you are completing as a platform for expressing yourself and relating to real human issues, which to me turns what you do into a form of art itself much like many of the games you are playing.
That was beautiful. Thank you, Jirard. Your truly care about your audience. You rock!
This has always been one of my favorites and it still holds up really well glad to see its finally getting a sequel.
