I agree with MVG, Tomba! is a really good game it's one of those games from my childhood that, along with the sequel, I've played over and over again tons of times and never got bored of. The remastered version of the soundtrack is fantastic, especially with Baccus Village. It just slaps. I'm really looking forward to the sequel coming out next year, and maybe that will also have a remastered soundtrack with not only the NTSC version, but maybe the Japanese version as well.

I think that botw sales were more then totk because they are usually recommended to play the first game or it would make sense to play the first game before the sequel. After trying out botw, they probably don't like it enough to purchase totk

Honestly, my biggest reason for being surprised about BotW selling more than TotK this past quarter is because I kind of assumed most of the people who were interested in BotW probably had already bought it
I paid the extra charge for the physical copies of Game Informer from GameStop the last time I bought the Pro membership. I had to jump through hoops to get them to send me the magazine to my house even tho I paid the extra charge for the physical copies. They made it difficult to get what I paid for. I'm not surprised the closed up shop on that magazine. It's like they didn't want to send it out anyways
Bungie is definitely the worst gaming acquisition of the past 5 years. They were overpriced. They’re a reason why Factions 2 got cancelled and Concord got the green light. They’re burning money obviously because of the layoffs. They bought Bungie when their reputation was at their lowest especially now that they fired so many veteran devs. Sony should’ve bought anyone else but Bungie. RIP to the great Bungie of 2001-2010.

I just turned of my ps5 for the first time in a couple months to download the visions of mana demo, I couldn't access the store until I did a 2gb update, then install the update and then restart the console... couldn't even access the store... like what

I disagree with Shawn. Xbox has a lot of first party games close together this fall. Stalker 2, Towerborne, Indiana Jones (those three games alone are taking up enough space) flight sim, age of mythology, Starfield shattered space (just one expansion Shawn lol), AND Black Ops 6 day one on Game Pass.
And with a subscription service you're competing for engagement. If no one plays the game because they're too busy playing COD and games outside of the service like AC Shadows and Dragon Age then that would be terrible.
No one would hate Microsoft if they delayed Avowed a year for polish, but the fact they pushed it to early next year shows Microsoft is more interested in pushing out games to meet quarterly quotas than actually making quality games.
When BOTW came out I played the game for a month straight (besides work, sleeping, eating lol) because it was before the open world epidemic started with all games and ultimately turned me off from said genres. I got Tears, and ran through it as quickly as possible. Didn't care to explore almost the same world as BOTW again.

I’m sorry, I love your opinions and stances on games and gaming news, but I think if there’s one thing you all probably have problem to understand is the available gaming time for regular persons, not someone that works in the industry or is a RUclipsr for games. You all have a lot of time to play games, but for a regular person, with a 9-5 job, with friends and family, yes, having too much games to play is a real problem. I don’t know if Avowed is really delayed for the reason Microsoft said, but personally, I’m glad they are postponing the release. With Flight Simulator, Indy, Stalkers 2, Towerbone, etc my gaming time is already full, and that doesn’t include Switch and PS5 games coming out also.

I don’t know what impact this has had overall, but I will say, I just took my 4 year old to best buy the other day, and the game on the demo switch was BotW, not Tears. And you know what she was interested in? BotW. I can’t be the only one who has kids still impacted by demo machines in stores.
I think MVG overlooks the Bungie acquisition using Bluepoint and Housemarque as examples as Sony has history with both those studios. They have no real history with Bungie and they didn't pay 3.6 billion dollars to buy those other two.
Don't Nod recently moved their next game to 2025 after the new Life is Strange got announced. and there have been similar situations before. I think it's not unreasonable to assume that Microsoft didn't want to cannibalise their own output. Nintendo does this all the time, you just never hear about it publicly because their release dates are announced rather late. In any case, a delayed Obsidian game is never a bad thing anyway.
I think it’s more of the big AAA game. It likes Nintendo moving one of their big games of the year to next year because of big games or PS moving it. It’s their game, they are marketing gamepass. Dragon Age isn’t coming out to gamepass. Shattered space isn’t coming out to gamepass. I think you have to buy it. So why move it?

Responding to MVG about Avowed being postponed due to overcrowding. I don’t think we’ve ever seen this before because no company has owned this many studios before. Microsoft/Xbox has a bunch a studios and many of them are reasons games. They don’t want to cannibalize their sales like Square has been doing with their games releasing too many too close each other. I think that’s why this is the first we are seeing this and of course they’ll have some extra time to work on it too.

Game informer will be missed for me, I had a 2 year subscription until like 2 years ago, I enjoyed reading them and I have older issues of it. I wish they could bring it back independently. I really like having physical print magazines.
What exactly is better Story wise in BotW over TotK? I never understand this because the only thing that was a big letdown was the story in BotW. TotK has the best story ever in a zelda game to me. Maybe I'm too dumb and manipulative, because I don't care about nerdy lore stuff like click does and i don't get why the story is bad in TotK..but there are like 3-4 sequencees in TotK that burned in my head and blew me away like no other zelda game. botws story is told in one sentence xD
The story is not better in BOTW, people just dont like the way the story is delivered in TOTK, none of these people have played TOTK in months so they dont remember what the story of TOTK is actually about.
Reasons why TotK's story is bad: 1. Structure. It's a linear story told from Zelda's perspective. Zelda is the narrative focus and the main character of the story. However, we only see the story in flashbacks, where Link, us, have no influence or connection to. The story in the past has zero influence on what happens in the present, because it already happened. Which is actually opposite of how time travel used to work in OoT and MM where time travel is central to the story and going to the past affects the present. This memory structure makes the player disconnected from the story. 2. Pacing. While the story happened in the past, literally nothing interesting happens in the present. We get strange weather patterns in the main 4 regions, and that's it. Beating the 4 temples give you the exact same cutscene 4 times, which are just worse versions of Mineru's cutscene when you beat the 5th dungeon. Seeing a memory changes nothing in the present day story, nothing happens in the present day story, getting repeated cutscenes of the same thing by doing present day story stuff, and you get bad pacing. 3. Lack of consistency with BotW. Not even talking about lore stuff. This is a sequel, so why are there so many things that feel inconsistent as a sequel? Why do people in Hateno not know Link who lived there for 6 years with Zelda and is always traveling with Zelda? People give the excuse that people don't always remember everyone they meet, but they sure as hell remember Zelda. But not the guy she lives with that's always next to her? I don't buy it. It reeks of "we don't want to alienate first time players" game design. It does not harm the game to have these connections. Hell, having these connections would get people interested to know what happened in the last game to learn the context. And this is only one example. Sheikah tech vanishing and no one giving a shit, why is there a Tarrey Town abandoned mine in the Depths when the town didn't exist until Link helped build it. Why is there literally nothing in the Sky Islands? Zonai also makes no sense. Zonai in BotW were hinted as a warrior tribe that lived in Faron, but that's inconsistent with how they are portrayed in TotK. It's like they took a fan idea and then ran with it without knowing why fans were crazy about the Zonai. They just make Sheikah 2.0. 4. Lost potential. Speaking of Zonai, what exactly do we learn about them? There are only 2 left because the rest of them left, and they have secret stones. That's it. They could've had so much more. Maybe have a lost civilization in the sky or in the depths where people share stories of Zonai in the past. Maybe Rauru could've been a companion that can pop up when you discover a landmark of interest in his past and you learn about it from him. We get nothing. The only thing we can learn from the past are fragmented memories. 5. Overall message of the game. Stories that stick with me had a message to tell, a lesson to learn, a theme that sticks with me. OoT is a story about having to grow up and face the evils of the world, robbing us of our childhood innocence. MM is about coming to terms with death or our own mortality. WW is about letting go of the past and finding our own future. SS is about finding the strength to protect your loved ones and parting ways when the journey is over. What does TotK teach us? That sacrificing yourself will work out because you will just come back? I got nothing. I didn't feel any profound impact at the end. I was just like, that's cool, we saved Zelda. And then got pissed off that they didn't learn any lessons. Zelda losing 2 sets of parents? Yeah let's not talk about it. She's fine.
No interest in the Gothic remake? Probably most viewers are younger and didn't play the 2001 original. I can't wait for it. I got the Switch ports on cartridges.
A good yoshi game has a chance to outsell the last yoshi game. Metroid Prime 4 has a decent chance to outsell the Switch 1 version(if there's two versions). A new donkey kong game could outsell the remakes. (This is a list of switch 2 games, that could outsell switch 1 versions)

To reflect others possibly, the game’s outward appearing success is an illusion. Part of this is at fault of players who made demands and Bungie bent the knee to meet player demands but it came with compromises. So the destiny 2 experience wasn’t a runaway success. I’m not sure if they’ve solved a lot of the issues they experience or not but they constantly had to delay events due to bugs, they’ve taken lots of content away with this promise of rotating it which hasn’t happened yet either. People were just obsessed and still spending money that’s the trap these games are so Sony got manipulated by a bunch of gamers that just don’t know how to put a controller down. They bought bungie to help with their own game ideas for live service and that’s crash and burned for Sony. So they really have no business owning bungie at this point. The way that news release read as well as there’s some cancelled projects it seems like they are focusing on marathon and destiny 2 and that may be it.

I don't even get the arguments against TOTK's sales. Video games in general rarely top 5m, let alone 10-20m. BOTW itself is a complete anomaly for the series. TP only barely topped 10m between both Wii and GCN. No other Zelda game came even close until BOTW tripled that number.

Stellar Blade and Grandblue Fantasy sold over 1 million while Rise of Ronin was the fastest selling Koie Tecmo game. None of these games are considered flops. The only developers not happy with the sales are Square Enix since they expected FF7 Rebirth to do a lot better despite solid sales. Also Sony put out 6 exclusives out so far this year (1 first party, 2 published, 2 3rd party exclusive). While Xbox has only had Hellblade 2 in 8 months.
It’s justified since Xbox can’t stop delaying games and the games they’ve released for this console generation have been mid at best. We still don’t have an actual release date for Indiana Jones and we’re already in August 🤦♂️
I don't know why anyone would buy a Ubisoft game when you can sub for a month and that gives you access to the ultimate edition. You can just buy it really cheap months later if you're interested in the DLC
Destiny 1 released in September 2014. It’s literally been 10 years of Destiny. Final Shape was their last expansion that wrapped up the whole light and dark story. So Bungie basically did what they said they were gonna do 10 years ago.
Bungie needs to release classic versions of Destiny like WoW has done it was super profitable for Blizzard and the demand was there. I prefer D1 and would love to play through it again from the beginning.
Dragon Age will not be radically different from the rest of the series. The initial trailer has misrepresented the final game, the developers have even said as much

Lmao, I finished BOTW and TOTK and will never touch either ever again. Boring games tbh.. Decent set piece moments within the games, but hardly masterpieces. Baldurs Gate 3 trumped TOTK simply because it really changed RPGs as we know it. As a CRPG, the scope and reactivity of the world, there has not been a game with so many branching choices that actually change the world you explore. The things you do, and even your race and class follows you throughout, nothing is ever obsolete. They literally leave ripples through the story and can lock you out of various content, while opening up new content for you to explore. Yes, gameplay wise you can argue that we have seen the same formula before, but in terms of interactivity and storytelling in an RPG (or any game genre), I have never played a more impactful game before. The different choices in narrative dialogue alone gives the game ample replay-ability.
It’s a shame you didn’t like either game. However, it’s important to at least acknowledge that BOTW is widely recognised as a groundbreaking game which the whole panel reiterated. GoTY on release. 94 on metacritic. In 2021 , 5 years after release, it was voted by the public as greatest game of all time for a national Japanese channel in one of the largest votes of its kind. GQ magazine also voted its greatest game of all time by interviewing over 200 international games journalists. Games afterward have been called BoTW clones or inspired by BoTW. Developers were astounded by the physics system in both games and also how they managed it on such ancient hardware. Players were impressed by the freedom and ingenuity of the environment. By all the subjective and official measures we have BoTW is a masterpiece, and it’s important to at least note its impact in the industry. ToTK is a sequel and is also a fantastic game. I can’t change your mind, but, I’d say simply with fusing and time rewind, along with the freedom to interact with the environment in unique ways makes it a masterpiece. But the ending dungeon and last boss is also something special. It was awarded GoTY awards by a number of publications, too, although not as many as BoTW and BG3. BG3 is a completely different genre and although it released in an unfinished state with thousands of bugs(my personal gripe, admittedly, after realising that Karlack only had 3 failed state endings and none of promised epilogues etc) has also earned its place undeniably as a masterpiece, too, for the reasons you mentioned. Sometimes, you are just simply a minority who didn’t like a great game. It sucks, but it happens to all of us.
@@Matanumiyeah, I can see that though I’ll probably replay it in a couple of years once I’ve forgotten a lot and it gets the inevitable performance boost on the switch 2 . There’s also a hell of a lot more good content in ToTK that means you can play it for much, much longer than a first play through of BoTW.

Breath of the Wild was pretty much the Zelda version of Mario 64. Youre only going to have that feeling once.
Mario 64 is not the best-selling Mario game like BOTW is for the Zelda franchise. The DS remake sold as much as the N64 original lol

I disagree with Shawn. Xbox has a lot of first party games close together this fall. Stalker 2, Towerborne, Indiana Jones (those three games alone are taking up enough space) flight sim, age of mythology, Starfield shattered space (just one expansion Shawn lol), AND Black Ops 6 day one on Game Pass.
And with a subscription service you're competing for engagement. If no one plays the game because they're too busy playing COD and games outside of the service like AC Shadows and Dragon Age then that would be terrible.
No one would hate Microsoft if they delayed Avowed a year for polish, but the fact they pushed it to early next year shows Microsoft is more interested in pushing out games to meet quarterly quotas than actually making quality games.

When BOTW came out I played the game for a month straight (besides work, sleeping, eating lol) because it was before the open world epidemic started with all games and ultimately turned me off from said genres. I got Tears, and ran through it as quickly as possible. Didn't care to explore almost the same world as BOTW again.

I’m sorry, I love your opinions and stances on games and gaming news, but I think if there’s one thing you all probably have problem to understand is the available gaming time for regular persons, not someone that works in the industry or is a RUclipsr for games. You all have a lot of time to play games, but for a regular person, with a 9-5 job, with friends and family, yes, having too much games to play is a real problem.
I don’t know if Avowed is really delayed for the reason Microsoft said, but personally, I’m glad they are postponing the release. With Flight Simulator, Indy, Stalkers 2, Towerbone, etc my gaming time is already full, and that doesn’t include Switch and PS5 games coming out also.

I think MVG overlooks the Bungie acquisition using Bluepoint and Housemarque as examples as Sony has history with both those studios. They have no real history with Bungie and they didn't pay 3.6 billion dollars to buy those other two.

Don't Nod recently moved their next game to 2025 after the new Life is Strange got announced. and there have been similar situations before. I think it's not unreasonable to assume that Microsoft didn't want to cannibalise their own output. Nintendo does this all the time, you just never hear about it publicly because their release dates are announced rather late. In any case, a delayed Obsidian game is never a bad thing anyway.
I think it’s more of the big AAA game. It likes Nintendo moving one of their big games of the year to next year because of big games or PS moving it. It’s their game, they are marketing gamepass. Dragon Age isn’t coming out to gamepass. Shattered space isn’t coming out to gamepass. I think you have to buy it. So why move it?

Responding to MVG about Avowed being postponed due to overcrowding. I don’t think we’ve ever seen this before because no company has owned this many studios before. Microsoft/Xbox has a bunch a studios and many of them are reasons games. They don’t want to cannibalize their sales like Square has been doing with their games releasing too many too close each other. I think that’s why this is the first we are seeing this and of course they’ll have some extra time to work on it too.

What exactly is better Story wise in BotW over TotK? I never understand this because the only thing that was a big letdown was the story in BotW. TotK has the best story ever in a zelda game to me. Reasons why TotK's story is bad:
1. Structure. It's a linear story told from Zelda's perspective. Zelda is the narrative focus and the main character of the story. However, we only see the story in flashbacks, where Link, us, have no influence or connection to. The story in the past has zero influence on what happens in the present, because it already happened. Which is actually opposite of how time travel used to work in OoT and MM where time travel is central to the story and going to the past affects the present. This memory structure makes the player disconnected from the story.
2. Pacing. While the story happened in the past, literally nothing interesting happens in the present. We get strange weather patterns in the main 4 regions, and that's it. Beating the 4 temples give you the exact same cutscene 4 times, which are just worse versions of Mineru's cutscene when you beat the 5th dungeon. Seeing a memory changes nothing in the present day story, nothing happens in the present day story, getting repeated cutscenes of the same thing by doing present day story stuff, and you get bad pacing.
3. Lack of consistency with BotW. Not even talking about lore stuff. This is a sequel, so why are there so many things that feel inconsistent as a sequel? Why do people in Hateno not know Link who lived there for 6 years with Zelda and is always traveling with Zelda? People give the excuse that people don't always remember everyone they meet, but they sure as hell remember Zelda. But not the guy she lives with that's always next to her? I don't buy it. It reeks of "we don't want to alienate first time players" game design. It does not harm the game to have these connections. Hell, having these connections would get people interested to know what happened in the last game to learn the context. And this is only one example. Sheikah tech vanishing and no one giving a shit, why is there a Tarrey Town abandoned mine in the Depths when the town didn't exist until Link helped build it. Why is there literally nothing in the Sky Islands? Zonai also makes no sense. Zonai in BotW were hinted as a warrior tribe that lived in Faron, but that's inconsistent with how they are portrayed in TotK. It's like they took a fan idea and then ran with it without knowing why fans were crazy about the Zonai. They just make Sheikah 2.0.
4. Lost potential. Speaking of Zonai, what exactly do we learn about them? There are only 2 left because the rest of them left, and they have secret stones. That's it. They could've had so much more. Maybe have a lost civilization in the sky or in the depths where people share stories of Zonai in the past. Maybe Rauru could've been a companion that can pop up when you discover a landmark of interest in his past and you learn about it from him. We get nothing. The only thing we can learn from the past are fragmented memories.
5. Overall message of the game. Stories that stick with me had a message to tell, a lesson to learn, a theme that sticks with me. OoT is a story about having to grow up and face the evils of the world, robbing us of our childhood innocence. MM is about coming to terms with death or our own mortality. WW is about letting go of the past and finding our own future. SS is about finding the strength to protect your loved ones and parting ways when the journey is over. What does TotK teach us? That sacrificing yourself will work out because you will just come back? I got nothing. I didn't feel any profound impact at the end. I was just like, that's cool, we saved Zelda. And then got pissed off that they didn't learn any lessons. Zelda losing 2 sets of parents? Yeah let's not talk about it. She's fine.

To reflect others possibly, the game’s outward appearing success is an illusion. Part of this is at fault of players who made demands and Bungie bent the knee to meet player demands but it came with compromises. So the destiny 2 experience wasn’t a runaway success. I’m not sure if they’ve solved a lot of the issues they experience or not but they constantly had to delay events due to bugs, they’ve taken lots of content away with this promise of rotating it which hasn’t happened yet either. People were just obsessed and still spending money that’s the trap these games are so Sony got manipulated by a bunch of gamers that just don’t know how to put a controller down.
They bought bungie to help with their own game ideas for live service and that’s crash and burned for Sony. So they really have no business owning bungie at this point.
The way that news release read as well as there’s some cancelled projects it seems like they are focusing on marathon and destiny 2 and that may be it.

Stellar Blade and Grandblue Fantasy sold over 1 million while Rise of Ronin was the fastest selling Koie Tecmo game. None of these games are considered flops. The only developers not happy with the sales are Square Enix since they expected FF7 Rebirth to do a lot better despite solid sales. Also Sony put out 6 exclusives out so far this year (1 first party, 2 published, 2 3rd party exclusive). While Xbox has only had Hellblade 2 in 8 months.

Destiny 1 released in September 2014. It’s literally been 10 years of Destiny. Final Shape was their last expansion that wrapped up the whole light and dark story. So Bungie basically did what they said they were gonna do 10 years ago.

Bungie needs to release classic versions of Destiny like WoW has done it was super profitable for Blizzard and the demand was there. I prefer D1 and would love to play through it again from the beginning.

Lmao, I finished BOTW and TOTK and will never touch either ever again. Boring games tbh.. Decent set piece moments within the games, but hardly masterpieces.
Baldurs Gate 3 trumped TOTK simply because it really changed RPGs as we know it. As a CRPG, the scope and reactivity of the world, there has not been a game with so many branching choices that actually change the world you explore.
The things you do, and even your race and class follows you throughout, nothing is ever obsolete. They literally leave ripples through the story and can lock you out of various content, while opening up new content for you to explore. Yes, gameplay wise you can argue that we have seen the same formula before, but in terms of interactivity and storytelling in an RPG (or any game genre), I have never played a more impactful game before.
The different choices in narrative dialogue alone gives the game ample replay-ability.
It’s a shame you didn’t like either game. However, it’s important to at least acknowledge that BOTW is widely recognised as a groundbreaking game which the whole panel reiterated.

In 2021 , 5 years after release, it was voted by the public as greatest game of all time for a national Japanese channel in one of the largest votes of its kind. GQ magazine also voted its greatest game of all time by interviewing over 200 international games journalists.
Games afterward have been called BoTW clones or inspired by BoTW. Developers were astounded by the physics system in both games and also how they managed it on such ancient hardware. Players were impressed by the freedom and ingenuity of the environment.
By all the subjective and official measures we have BoTW is a masterpiece, and it’s important to at least note its impact in the industry. ToTK is a sequel and is also a fantastic game. I can’t change your mind, but, I’d say simply with fusing and time rewind, along with the freedom to interact with the environment in unique ways makes it a masterpiece. But the ending dungeon and last boss is also something special. It was awarded GoTY awards by a number of publications, too, although not as many as BoTW and BG3.
BG3 is a completely different genre and although it released in an unfinished state with thousands of bugs(my personal gripe, admittedly, after realising that Karlack only had 3 failed state endings and none of promised epilogues etc) has also earned its place undeniably as a masterpiece, too, for the reasons you mentioned.
Sometimes, you are just simply a minority who didn’t like a great game. It sucks, but it happens to all of us.

Guerilla are one of the worst studios on Earth and Horizon Zero Dawn was a fluke. Gaming is terrible right now. Xbox are pumping the same old shit they've been putting out since 360 - more Gears, more Halo, more Forza and wondering why their audience is apathetic - surely people are over all that shit by now and had their fill? Same with first party Nintendo - more Mario/Zelda - come on man ffs even the GC gave us more variety.
