I don't mean to sound rude, but you sound like you are one catastrophic fleet battle away from suffering EVE-induced Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder if there is even such a thing

yeah, or they should at least invite him to participate into a therapy session where he is asked "So how do you feel now that you haven't logged in for 2 months" and his answer would sound like "My memory keeps racing back to the battle of , a lot of good capsuleers were podded that day, I was there, I watched them all make the jump, only I was spared, why"

There is a thing, I got burnt out after 10 years of playing, running POS/SOV corp for hire.
The fountain war took its toll and I haven't played since about 2014.
      Still take great interest though.

    • @shamorunner2660
      @shamorunner2660 6 лет назад +6

the game is wicked fun and the stories you hear, read, and see videos of are not even close to 1% of the vast amount of stories that happen. I've been playing for 6 months and I've fought for and against 4 sieges, been on a handful of hunting parties, ratted while an enemy fleet was in a connecting system and made it out with seconds to spare, been blown up by a superior pilot, and w whole lot more than that.
Eve Online is a place of opportunity, espionage, comradery, stories people stumbled upon and made, and relationships that you'll remember forever. It's a place that I'm glad I found, as it is the one video game I've found where I truly get to do what I what, when I want to, where I want too, with who I want too, and I get to do this every single time I log into the game. To make it even better, the game is at its easiest point to this day to get into it, there are: alpha clones (free accounts that can use 112+ different ships), big and small groups to join, a extremely helpful and commited player base, and a pace that you get to decide how slow or fast you want it to be.
I seriously advise taking a wack at the game, whether it's for an hour, a few months, or even years, so that when you see stories of Eve you'll have an entire new respect for what you are hearing and you can even tell your own stories of valor or destruction :P
Let me know if you have even the slightest interest by just simply replying to this comment and I'll be able to answer any questions you have about the game if you are still hesitant or what you can do in the game.

Yeah, in this game everybody has their own stories to tell. Some are more interesting than others, sure, but you got a lot of stuff you experiance.
It's not an easy game to get into, the tutorial (career agents) took me about a day, and I mean a day with about 10 hours only dedicated to EVE. But there are so many misconceptions about the game that it seems worse than it is. Although there are vets out there who gank helpless newbie miners, the community is incredibly helpful, tries to answer all your questions, no matter how dumb they seem.
There is a crapload of corps out there who call themselves newbie-friendly, but don't really do a lot for you. But there are way more corps who actually help newbies a lot, with fleet training and events, ship replacements, guides, money,... You do not have to stay in any corp, if you feel as if your current corp doesn't help you/is bad/whatever, just leave, and that's it. Find a new, better one. You never have to settle on a single type of gameplay, you are absolutely free.
Nobody expects you to understand the entire game or be an expert on something in no time, because nobody actually understands the entire game.
You do not have to dedicate your life to EVE like he has, a few minutes every few days or weeks is perfect if you want to, and most people have stopped playing the game for months entirely throughout their time in EVE anyway.
You can try it for free for an unlimited time, but with a few limitations. I played about 3 months in Alpha state, learned so much about the game, and finally decided it was worth going Omega.
So it's free to play, and you are free to play in your own way. Worth giving it a try, if you ask me :)

He is sure of himself, even arrogant but it is normal since he knows that he is good and that is a rare resource, after for the real life side and online life side if it has no impact for his entourage we can not judge him. For sure he is commited if its what he like why not ...

you could or why dont you: (this is once boosters are reworked)
      - let someone trusted (not yourself) probe the enemy fleet.
      - have in-itself-functioning squads of ca.10guys (something like: 3dps+2logi+CD+Damps+ECM+Ceptor). Distribute the workload!
      - have designated targetcallers. (wingcommander) @ccp:limit the permissions to broadcast targets --> settings.
      - have seperate anchors. (squadcommanders)
that all helps the FC to relax and sit back while your guys dish it out. maybe focus on important stuff like the organisation of reinforcements or capital-escalation. If you want to be just the targetcaller, why not. But dont do everything, leave something fun for your spacefriends to do.
      - build someone up to be a trustworthy second in what ever you do. ofc you can keep secrets, sensei.
      suggestions for game developers:
@ccp: dont care so much for opsec, its not fun. therefor its imho ok to bring a second column to the fleetmember-list which shows the shiptype. okok maybe just for the squad the pilot is in. so its easier for the guys to pick ships. and distribute themselfes across the squads.
@cpp: do not limit squadsize to 10. have a welcomesquad without order / outside the fleet-bracket. newcomers should not bring chaos that is work to rebuild. (sissifus)
@ccp: an option to see your numbers (shiptypes/dps/alpha/repair/averagelocktime/warpspeed/slowestaligntime/number of damps/#ecm/paint efficiency/...). i want to have the same view like i can with some dscan-tools. maybe this will work with the new crestcode and then some web-service. dont know yet.
all for now. EOR (end of rage)

To all the people commenting negatively on this guy's lifestyle or whatever; mind your own business. The man said he finds something good in it and still enjoys doing what he does. Nobody is holding up a gun to his head. And to you people trying desperately to shame him for being so dedicated to his hobby which happens to be a videogame; you sound like highscool kids trying to boost their own egos by making fun of other people. Personally, I could never invest this much time of my life into such a demanding hobby, but I find this guy somewhat inspiring for being so passionate about it.

after watching this video i have to say the best question was: what can CCP do to make the life of a fleet commander easier. and i guess a follow up question which also has to do with a remark he made earlier, why do you think the amount of (senior) fleet commanders is decreasing? is there less need for them with the current changes? are fleets diminishing in size on avarage? are there less engagements? is the strain on the fleet commanders to commanding on them?

I feel that not enough effort is put into actually developing new fc's tbvh with many self proclaimed 'fleet commanders' simply logging in and taking control and others simply put into that position because they asked or because they have a titan.
Ive seen many bad fleet commanders..... burning into long range nano gangs with brawl fits or bubbling up interceptors or simply just diving into an attack without listening to whether the logi or ceptor wing is ready or has provided proper intel (que "theres a gatecamp here.. lots of frigs" misses the stuff on dscan or the several recons ongrid...)

I disagree that FC's are number 1 content creators in the the game. As an FC myself, I have to hand that honour to explorers, scout and recon. They will ping 'got a dank hole' or 'there are rorquals mining here', FC's generally just act on it. Of course we'll just ping for roams but a lot of the time, content from roams is a lot of luck and a bit of using your noggin to find content on the fly.

  • @FireKeepersDaddy

To be honest, i don't feel like he was complaining, or like he was whining about how being a fleet commander affects his life, he's just trying to provide a point of view of what will happen to US, to YOU if you become one, from his experience, he's not saying how to strategize and how you should be playing, nor what you should use . He's displaying a taste of the responsibility it comes with, and how your dedication and vigor for the game will weigh on your life. This can be for any other game as well, not just EVE Online. You would think "its just a game, don't let it affect you that much, say no, or just quit from it." but that's the opposite a team leader would do, and the kind of mentality that pushes you away from being an effective fleet commander. You have to be willing to learn how to adapt, and shape it to where you can handle your game time, your prepping and coordination, imagine trying to organize hundreds of soldiers, and they're all just as human we are, prepping for war and needing guidance from their fleet commander, only to be told "sorry i had a late shift, I'm too tired we gotta put the battle off for another day." Hell no, that's not acceptable, and he's trying to portray that out to people, it will not nor ever be easy to be a fleet commander, but when he explained the battle, the time they warped onto people at a stargate and it was just endless 3 min of combat, and drama, he had excitement in his tone when he said it. Those battles must be amazing, and absolutely focus-driven fun, and hell to manage at that. i am just starting off my first time here, and i just had to warp drive out of a 4 man free for all like a little pussy before i died, and even thought i almost died and had no idea how to defeat my opponent it was fun as hell. i could only imagine the satisfaction of winning a battle with 300 people under my wing, and with my command seeing victory, it must be really worth it in the long run if you have a real passion for this game. i feel people missed the detail of what he had to do, the planning and shaping of schedules to make sure he handled his responsibilities in life, and managed to shape time around his day to day life to keep his skills as an FC adequate, and that is what is lacking with a lot of people in not just this game, but any other. it's what separates us in ranked divisions, skill, and can lead to how we enjoy the game experience. I don't know if I'd be a good FC, but I'd say to live a day as one, for one mission would be worth it. GG

That's not something I would imagine doing myself but I can understand some people loving something so much that they agree to that kind of commitment. Back in 2009, my first null alliance, I went to install 'Jabber' but it turned out to be a program called 'Pidgin'. Fast forward to recently, when i joined RZR again they still request you install 'Jabber', and still, no Jabber, its Pidgin. Seven years and they still cann it 'Jabber' yet ive never seen a 'Jabber'. Why dont people say 'install Teamspeak and Pidgin' and Wolf say 'i have 10 Pidgin rooms and 50 Pidgin private convos at a time',, because thats what it is - its Pidgin, not 'Jabber'.

Honestly, Eve isnt just a mindless game like all the other garbage on the market. It teaches Communication Skills, Leadership Skills, Management Skills, Strategy Skills, Micro-Management Skills, Organizational Skills, Comprehension Skills, Persuasion (Sales) Skills, etc. I have seen some people even hired at well paying jobs because they brought those skills with them in life.
