  • In this talk we investigate PLEX price dynamics, alliance structure, and the history of war in Eve and its effect on market prices, and how these relate to the real world. LAB-M is a research project of the University of Ghent. Kevin Hoefman is a game development lecturer turned economist, who is convinced that what players do in EVE can solve real world problems.

Just catching up on things in eve and the fanfests, this is sort of interesting....Also, interesting to see someone else who was on Darkmetal back in the day.

Pacing is a bit tedious, but if anyone is scanning to see if they want to watch it all - I thought 41:52 on was really interesting.

Somebody please tell that guy that the Russians can actually pay for sub/PLEX with Russian Rubles without any conversion

    • @yashm5683
      @yashm5683 8 лет назад +1

+asmi06 The effect is the same regardless of conversion. The real price of sub/PLEX for Russians goes up when the ruble loses value (lower ruble -> imports more expensive -> increased cost of living -> lower disposable incomes) so both PLEX and subscription become more expensive in terms of puchasing power even if the nominal price stays the same.

    • @asmi06

+Yash M Nope, right now for Russians subscription costs 560 rubles, which currently is less than $10 US (this is for monthly sub, multi-months subs are even cheaper with 12-months sub costs 408 rubles/month, which is about 6$ US atm). PLEX still costs almost the same as for others because unlike sub it's an ingame item, and as such setting price substantially different would lead to abuses.

I know this is old but did you get his point?
The price of plex may be the same, and it may be lower, but imagine that you have 100$ eve plex costs 10$
regularly you pay 80$ for food, electricity, fuel and what not.
A few months go by and suddenly your currency lose value compared to the world now you have to pay 110$ for everything, food, electricity and fuel, well I no longer have money to pay for eve, oh no I will have to find it elsewhere, aka I find better isk making opporunities and shift from being a supplier of plex and start buying them instead.
If a big group of players does this we see a price change because the sellers can now leverage higher prices.

CCP, there were a couple of new employees (DEVs?) introduced this fanfest that seemed 'out of sync' with the direction of the company. Here is one of them. What an awful presentation. So far off course from what makes CCP an engaging and fun company. CCP - don't go here. please

+DUSTvet um, this guy doesn't work for CCP, so...

+DUSTvet Fanfest always has at least one presentation these days about real science being done relating to the game, that's not going to be for everybody but it's interesting for those who are into it.

      +DUSTvet don't go here? o.O
you do realize that half of eve is economics. Its likely the most complex virtual economy in the world.
I mean this guy found economic correlations between the real world oil industry and plex, how awesome is that?!
An eve player who hates economics would be like a call of duty player who hated guns
