  • Veterans In Action (VIA) is proud to announce the VE-80 Overland Expedition, an extraordinary journey commencing on 08th May 2025. This expedition commemorates the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe, paying tribute to the immense sacrifices made during the Second World War. Our mission is to honour the past, support veterans suffering from PTSD, and promote healing and camaraderie through this significant journey.
    VE-80 Overland Expedition Journey Details
    Starting at the VIA Centre in Andover, the journey will cover over 4,000 miles, visiting the following historically significant sites:
    1. Normandy, France: The pivotal D-Day landings on 6 June 1944.
    2. Malmedy, Belgium: Site of the tragic Malmedy Massacre during the Battle of the Bulge.
    3. Hürtgen Forest, Germany: Scene of intense and costly battles from September 1944 to February 1945.
    4. Arnhem, Holland: The ambitious yet ultimately unsuccessful Operation Market Garden.
    5. Harz Mountains, Germany: One of the last strongholds of German resistance.
    6. Silesia, Poland: A region crucial to the German war effort and scene of significant Red Army offensives.
    7. Gross-Rosen Concentration Camp, Poland: Known for its brutal conditions and forced labour.
    8. Project Riese, Poland: Secret Nazi tunnels in the Owl Mountains.
    9. Auschwitz-Birkenau, Poland: The largest and most infamous Nazi extermination camp.
    10. Slovak Mountains, Slovakia: Battlegrounds of the Slovak National Uprising.
    11. Grossglockner High Alpine Road, Austria: Traversing through historically significant regions.
    12. Berghof, Germany: Hitler's mountain retreat and planning site.
    13. Alpine Way, Germany: Scenic route through the Bavarian Alps.
    14. Nuremberg, Germany: Site of the infamous Nuremberg Rallies and Trials.
    15. Luxembourg: Liberated by American troops, yet scarred by the Battle of the Bulge.
    16. Bastogne, Belgium: Key location during the Battle of the Bulge.
    Key Highlights of the VE-80 Overland Expedition
    • Normandy, France: The D-Day landings marked the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany, leading to the liberation of France.
    • Malmedy Massacre, Belgium: The tragic execution of 84 American POWs by German SS troops, galvanising Allied resolve.

    • Project Riese, Poland: An unfinished network of secret Nazi tunnels and facilities.
    • Auschwitz-Birkenau, Poland: A chilling reminder of the Holocaust, with over 1.1 million victims.
    • Slovak Mountains, Slovakia: Battleground of the Slovak National Uprising against the Nazi-aligned regime.
    • Grossglockner High Alpine Road, Austria: Traversing historically significant regions and natural beauty.
    • Berghof, Germany: Hitler's mountain retreat and a symbol of his regime.
    • Alpine Way, Germany: A scenic route offering historical and natural insights.
    • Nuremberg, Germany: Site of Nazi propaganda rallies and the subsequent war crimes trials.
    • Luxembourg: Liberated yet scarred by the Battle of the Bulge, a founding member of post-war European unity.
    • Bastogne, Belgium: Key location in repelling the German offensive during the Battle of the Bulge.
