It’s not a video game, in real life surrender is provably the wisest option. And they didn’t know what the Germans were going to do to them.
The massacre was not as clear a criminal act as that, yes it was wrong but it resulted from the fact that the captured Americans mostly escaped during a battle, then on being recaptured, started to escape again.

Peiper essentially admitted to it. They were under orders to execute prisoners so as not to slow their advance. These SS also slaughtered a lot of Belgian civilians, mostly at Stavelot.
After hearing about Malmedy massacre in Battle of the Bulge even Russians started to massacre Germans on the Eastern Front. Nazis were monsters n Germany 🇩🇪 paid the price of their monstrosity. We Indians fought krauts in Africa n Italy. Hello from India 🇮🇳
