Experienced modeler and painter here (not the best, but I've been doing it for years). I like your explanations for new people! For people who don't know, the brushing technique he uses on the rocks is called Dry brushing, or some people call it overbrushing. It can be used lightly or heavy for different effects. I personally would have added a drybrush to the dirt and a bit to the grass to give a bit more of a textured look, but this is a beginning tutorial, so totally understand why you keep it simple. Good on you for helping new people out with the basics. A lot of tutorials out there assume people already know how to do basic things and either gloss over it, or just skip that part completely. Also, terminology explanations are great so peeps can go on to more advanced stuff and know what they are hearing and what it's referring to. A+++. And great enthusiasm too.
Very cool Dave! The original color did not bother me too much, but your custom paint job is amazing though! I particularly liked your edge stippling techniques. It really breaks up those large panels and looks very realistic. Thanks for sharing!
What's funny is in my day job a good portion of my work is color matching of products and graphics so I'm probably more critical than most. Honestly it was just an excuse to repaint an AT-ST! 😂
Good job! I just wanna point out that DR Toys is one of the reasons i started scratch built. Such a nice guy with great personality and positive attitude. nice and simple videos that even a beginner can understand and follow the tips. THANK YOU DR TOYS !
One of my first build’s getting back into the hobby was a Bandai 1/144 AT-ST diorama. Looks great to me. Yours looks awesome. Thanks for sharing. Happy days and model on! 😎🇨🇦
Thanks for the great painting tutorial. I've recently bought the almost microscopic Bandai AT-ST & Snowspeeder model kit pack, and I'm keen to do a switcheroo diorama set on a forgotten desert/snow bound moon where remnants of Rebel and Imperial troops have found it necessary to ally themselves with native tribes, and finding whatever equipment they can find to survive. So, the tribe with the Rebel survivors is using the AT-ST and the opposing tribe with Imperial troops is using a rebuilt snow speeder - of course! Your painting tutorial has given me all the inspiration I need to paint the models just how I need them to be. By the way, I also appreciate your desire to use simple methods and materials to get a great result. Thanks heaps!
that came out very cool. Doing things like this is really fun. What gets me going on them is when you are doing a base or even the main figure and it just dont seem to be going how you want it and then all of a sudden you do just the right few brush strokes or add just the right little piece and then viola it just pops and it is like such a cool exciting feeling when it does all come together. And it dont have to be much either like on this just the right stone or the right placement of the grasses and POP it is there.
Excellent work Dr.! It just takes a few basic items to really make any toy or model have a realistic look to it. Thanks for sharing this and I always look forward to your tutorials.
I'm gonna do that this weekend. I'll just do the AT-ST though. Thr base isn't for me and doesn't fit my collection. Great job though dude! Looks awesome!
I didn't think the color looked off but the shiny plastic look of them did, the old star wars toys used to be a lot more matte. The shininess makes them look like toys instead of the real thing
That is totally an upscale of the old 'Micro Machines' AT-ST - down to the pilot. The only diffrence is the addition of more articulation in the joints
I was planning on getting this to custom it, but the way they cheaped out on the grenade launcher made me decide against it. Paint is one thing, sculpting an entire missing detail from scratch is another

Repainting was the right choice. Great video, man!
Thanks!
Once again…thank you David. Your smile and passion is so infectious.
Sure thing! Thank for watching!

Great job Dave! You do inspire us!
Awesome! Thank you!
Very nice mod love it ! Reminds me of the scene when logs roll under its free and AT stumbles and falls to joy of ewok clan. 😢

You're very welcome! Thanks for watching.
Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
This looks amazing!!! You did a great job
Thank you so much!!
Hi great tutorial! I kinda wish you showed us you painting it grey. Did you hand brush it or air brush?
Sorry about that. It was literally just Rustolium gray spray paint from Home Depot.
Thanks for watching.
I'm gonna do that this weekend. I'll just do the AT-ST though. Thr base isn't for me and doesn't fit my collection. Great job though dude! Looks awesome!
Awesome!
Did you do a single coating with the spray ? Great work man !
Yes I did.
I didn't think the color looked off but the shiny plastic look of them did, the old star wars toys used to be a lot more matte. The shininess makes them look like toys instead of the real thing

How well does this new Bahr paint work
I like it.
wont shoe polish rub off? I always would use thind blacked paint as a kid.
I put a clear coat over it when I’m done.
Is that the primer Base coat
Is that
Yup
Does makes it look way better, but do AT-ST's actually rust? 🤔😅
Great question.😅

💚
Dr… I have some pics for you of an NX-01 model kit bash I’m working on. Just need to paint it up
