Funny timing. We just got home from service this morning. On the way home we stopped at Wendy's for burgers & I was sitting there in the drive thru telling my family that I need to go to Dollar Tree because they have the Final Faction action figures. My wife me to go, but I opted not to because we were in a hurry. Now I get home to sit down, eat, & watch your video. I should have gone. LOL You did an amazing job of showing how you did this at my level of ability to understand. I have some ideas that I'd like to work on & I'll be taking a staycation the 4th of July week. Looks like you may have directed me towards a project or 2. LOL Thanks for this awesome video!!!

@@DRToysCreations Will definitely do. I work a full time job Mon-Sat & church on Sunday. When I'm at home I want to do things, but I'm usually tired. I love the way this turned out! I actually have this figure and I think I'm going to give this a shot (though I've never done a custom paint before). Very inspiring! Thank you!!! I've heard quite a few references to a shoe polish wash but I've never seen it done before. I have all this extra polish that I'll never need. I definitely need to find a video with this method.... Or buy nicer shoes or something.
@@DRToysCreationsI did it!!! I had a hard time with the precision painting so I used a Speeder Bike Trooper model. The bikers are my favorite trooper though so that turned out great!! Masterpiece! You just turned a random figure into a jaw dropping and greatly painted action figure! You were able to transmit the love you have for costumizing into that figure!
Thankyouuu, started watching megas xlr and wanted to make a upgraded version by painting over a mech action figure, this is straight forward and helpful :)
The thing too is that you really don't have to follow a certain color scheme. After all this is sci-fi, so any kind of color scheme will work. I'm currently trying to do different versions of the Final Faction crawlers.
Thats come out so cool mate. If i can just suggest sonething to go next level... mold lines. Removing them really adds to the fugure, and it looked like there were sone bad ones on this because FF are toys.
Great point! I was trying to make a video that beginners would feel comfortable jumping into but I totally could have mentioned that at the end as a bonus tip. Thanks so much .😀
Very nice .....I have some cheap Chap Mei Corps figures and I'm going to give them some love with paint ( make them post atomic renegades ) ...... thanks for the insight 😁👍🇺🇸❤
I’m cheap so I just get the bundle set of synthetic brush from Hobby Lobby when they at 40% off. I also sometimes find brushes at yardsales.😃 They are cheap but nice enough quality for what I’m doing. I do know there are some really nice brushes that people use for miniatures like Warhammer but definitely an investment.
I've had pretty good results with the ceramacote paints when they're thinned with alcohol. After a nice matte sealer the look almost as nice as enamel.
@@DRToysCreations they actually suck for washes, but if they're thinned to a heavy cream like consistency they'll leave a nice smooth surface finish that's perfect for brush painting. In fact after thinning it's almost identical to the model specific acrylics. The main reason I use denatured alcohol over water is it seems to give a smoother end result.
Amazing work! I'm definitely going to give this a try. When you're painting the figure, does it work better to seal the paint first and then apply the black wash? or do you add a wash, then seal?
Awesome, I kinda go back and forth on that. if you seal it with a gloss sometime the wash will just bead up but if you dont seal it will definitely absorb more of the wash over all. I have had better luck with a matte or satin clear coat. The nice part about a clear coat is you can take the scruby side of an old sponge and remove most of the wash without destroying your paint job.
Crafr paints Are.good starting out I still.use them. I.like using Liquitex Artist Acrylics. Thin down storednin.0lastic Jars from.Dollar tree Thin with Distilled Water
So I typically use just a rattle can Rustolium from Home Depot or Lowe’s. I know they are some nicer name brand model kits sprays but they are just too expensive for me. The finish just depends on the look I’m going for. Sometimes if building like a robot I may want it to be grungy and rusty so I would do a matte finish but if the bot is newer I may want it to be shiny so I’ll use a gloss. Many times the piece will give you that vibe of what it should be and you just gotta trust your gut.

What paint would you use if kids were going to play with these? Same stuff, or would it rub off easily?
The enamel spray paint is pretty tough but if you add a clear coat over it that will give it that one extra layer of protection.
