I just used 2 tsp white course sea salt because my Himalayan is finished, and I'm disappointed in the taste after the salt. I added a little more vinegar and xylitol as I am diabetic. Should have left the salt out. It tasted like real Cape Malay. I use a Durban medium masala and I think there is enough salt in the masala. But, the recipe is the real McKoy!

One of the best things to ever happen to the Cape: kerrievis!. Interesting how this tradition permeated through Catholicism on the Cape Flats - it became an Easter thing. To me, behind the Boerewors Curtain, only learned about this pickled fish eating at age sixty!. In my culture, it is an all year round thing. I once saw hostel boys discarding a whole dustbin full of this grand legacy: the big yellow M had hijacked and perverted their taste buds. You can wake me at 2am, 3 or 5, any day, everyday with a nice bietjie kerrievis and I'll be very content. Thanks for teaching people how to make this delicacy.
