I’m a small content creator and this is my second time negotiating a rate and I’m walking away from it. They said it was a paid opportunity so I thought I was going to be paid per post but it’s really an affiliate program. They wanted a 6 month contract with 18 post and rights to the content. I told them I would need to get paid and they asked for my rates. After I sent the rates they said that they don’t have the budget because they are a newer company and believe that we can both benefit from the deal. It was scary saying no but I can’t take that
An exclusive finance company once asked me for a proposal to speak "And be sure to put your price in," the woman said. I didn't like her attitude, and was tired of feeling undervalued, so I tripled my price to get rid of the offer. Next thing I know, I'm hired. Then they had to cancel, so what was my cancellation fee? I said the first number that came to mind. I made more money on that job than I had to date, and while I wasn't so smooth doing it, the experience taught me a lot.
'Usually charge X, but for you, it'll be X-Y' Not just the creator space, but this happens a lot in family photography too. It's just a confidence issue, but a big killer all the same. Just had my first real brand reach out for sponsorship and trying to find some useful info. Reddit brought me here and I'm glad it did. Funny how as soon as you start playing in a different field (YT creation rather than portrait photography) one seems to forget all about the basics! Thanks for the reminder
I down played my rate! Another mistake is I did a lot of work for a little amount of compensation. I ended up telling the brand I wanted to walk away from the collab and they came back and offered more after telling me they did not have it in their budget at first. Not even kidding they tried negotiating for an entire hour on a lower rate. But, my content was that good--they knew they had the funds!
If a company wants to use my content on lets say their Instagram feet. Would this count as perpetual Usage? Should they delete it after the contract. Or does that not count as it will be buried under the new content.
Ya, typically most contracts will say once the brand reshares or reposts your content on their feed, they can keep it up indefinitely...they just won't do any *new* promotion of the content after the contract Term. Does that make sense?
Thank you so much, I’ve literally made every single one of these mistakes and have lots of work to do to change my routine. Much needed changes. I actually had to whip out my notebook and write some notes down😅😂
Any tips for renegotiating your rate with a brand you've been working with for several months since your accounts grew and you started cross posting to other platforms?
Create a summary of all the amazing work you've done for them over the last 6 Mos, both quantitative and qualitative, plus new work you're proposing, then finally the increased investment. This is called value stacking and critical when it comes to renegotiating.
Have not made any of the mistakes ... not sponsoring. How can I get into it? I am into business management .... how to get more from resources and the like.
I need help look at my content what brands can I reach out to. Because I been emailing companies and I haven't secured a partnership yet. I really need help
Wish I would've seen this 9 months ago. In the beginning of my process I accepted free brand deals and even as low as $5 🙈 now I have no problem walking away. I would rather watch TV and spend time with my husband.

@@CreatorWizard yeah that makes sense! So they can't start a paid campaign for the post but they can keep it on their timelines 👍
