If it is not gambling because you are not directly betting money in exchange for money, then I guess casinos aren't gambling ether as you are betting on poker chips! Personally I think the random loot drops etc. available to be bought via microtransactions in like 90% of AAA games now a days should be considered gambling.
The difference between poker chips and CS:GO loot is the chips have a guaranteed, fixed value. CS:GO loot is more akin to a single share of stock, with regards to its stability.
So it would be like purchasing gold or diamonds and using them in an underground casino-like setting? A casino-like setting that may or may not be frequented by Bond villains?
Maxben L I didn't intend to endorse either side of the political argument re: virtual goods and regulation, I'm just saying that virtual goods aren't 100% equal to poker chips as far as the law is concerned. These minor distinctions matter very much as far as legislation is concerned, even though you're right in that it's still gambling.
They are. Just they get away with it because there is no "Real Life" dollar value attached. By making it where your paying for a service/product rendered, you pay for the box not the random stuff inside, your not technically gambling by the laws definition. This is what Jim and others like me mean when we say the laws need to be updated. Somthing like Any expendeture of money where you are paying for a random outcome should be classified as gambling. Which would mean either A) all these AAA games that have boxes in them would become 18+ ONLY, and hurt overall sales or B) they would remove the random boxes so that they could still sell to kids. And yes I do realize that my example would include CCGs, such as Pokemon/Magic the Gathering/and others, as gambling. But lets be real we ALL knew that those have always been gambling whether we wanted to admit it or not.
memnarch129 Heh...now I'm going to take sides in replying to someone. :p I think regulating or banning Valve's boxes would be an utter disaster. Is it a form of gambling? Yeah, but it's a form where you always get something. In that light, it's less of a means of gambling than those machines where you insert tokens to potentially push off other tokens, or those alleged skill block games which the companies admit (and for which it has been proven) that the top block has an element of randomness to prevent the operator from being bankrupted by skilled players. A child is very capable of identifying situations where randomness can screw them over...maybe even better than adults because a child's fixed "income" is often so low it can take over a month of saving to buy a brand new AAA game. Even though I was barely a teenager when TCG's came out, there were plenty of things a kid could buy before that with randomized content. A few weeks of wasted allowance is usually all it takes for a kid to think more long-term, and invest in purchases which will keep them entertained longer. Case in point: Minecraft's mind-blowing popularity. The 50 million+ kids (guessing out of 100+ million overall) who have purchased thousands of hours of cheap entertainment know exactly what they're doing. I'm going to get flack for saying this, but it has to be said: If you spend a small fortune on the extremely rare off-chance of getting a super rare item that is probably not going to match your tastes and doesn't affect your stats, you have poor impulse control, plain and simple. Pay-to-win is exploitative because it turns people into cannon fodder for one percenters or is symptomatic of a system where a player who doesn't play enough or pay enough becomes a weak burden on their friends. Cosmetics are completely optional, and you get to the point where if you're not TCG-style gambling in TF2, you're probably buying worthless crap on Amazon. This rings true even with kids who steal their parents' credit card. (and in many cases it can be tougher to return said Amazon goods, depending on what they are) Just had to let that out.
The best part is that prosyndicate has just uploaded a new video where he 1. Jokes in the description that he doesn't own the game that he is playing. 2. Tells everyone to ignore the haters because things are fine. And he's just as popular as ever.
If it's only considered gambling if you are betting real money, then wouldn't most casinos that trade chips for money technically fall into this loophole? Seems pretty ridiculous to me.
I think the difference is, casino itself exchanges your money for chips and back. With these schemes, the skins are sold on Steam, not on the gambling sites themselves. IANAL though.
Jim has a legal team? That must be a fun job. Also the Jimquisition is the best way to signal boost it. I for one, didn't hear of this before this vid Also I was actually subscribed to TMartn back when he was making BlOps2 vids and I was really into BlOps2. But I unsubbed ever since I got out of cod. What a weird way to find out what he's been up to.
Same here. I haven't really looked at those other names he mentioned much, if ever at all. Clearly, it was nececary for Jim to go all "perfect pasta sauce" on us.
It is. I used to listen to Painkiller Already religiously back in the day. It's weird to reacquaint yourself with people you've long heard of in years.
This is the final straw. You decry shady game journalism practices, and here you are participating in them yourself. I thought you were above all this. All your talk of ethical behavior and despicable business practices, and here you are engaging in them yourself. Shame on you, Jim. I'll be telling all of my friends about your hypocrisy. Betting pogs on boglins and not giving your followers the access to the same? Knaht Dog for you, Jim. Shame. Shame. Shame. #poglinsforall #sterlingliedboglinsdied
All I can add to this is that it's way further spread than just youtube. There's several fandoms, one in particular that I've noticed, that has sold "art folios", and LITERALLY 100 % of these have been blatant scams and/or dishonest advertisement. Yet, the fans of these, for whatever reason, seem to be too stupid to both, have a standard. And to have any interest in not being ripped off anymore. I have personally exposed dozens of hacks and swindlers in these fandoms. That outright admit that they are lazy, incompetent and/or just churn out shovelware for a quick buck, as they know their fans are too stupid to ever ask for quality content. And, if they can get away with charging the same for 4 hours of work as for 30 seconds, why wouldn't they take that chance? Heck, they even claim that it's their right/privilege to rip off people dumber than them. Never mind that the status quo encourages such backhanded behavior. What gets to me is that, of those that I have exposed, brought the truth out on... people have gotten pissed on ME for that. Tossing a fit over how "they were much happier off not knowing". In a reasoning that "hey, if I charge these morons 10 $ for a 2 $ sandwich, that's totally okay as long as they don't find out about it!" because, if they do find out about it. They're no longer okay with it. And thus, I'M the dick for shedding light on the situation. And these swindlers go on their self-righteous rants about "How do YOU sleep at night?" for having the audacity to poke holes at their money scheme... yeah, the people that point out what these people do, THEY are the problem... Like you have pointed out, and like the most upvoted comment says: I don't know what is worse. These asshats being all smug and rubbing their nipples about their dishonest methods. OR their seemingly retarded fans defending the people that fucked them over... it's a bit like seeing a man who just got fired by the company they had worked at for 10 years, by the executive going "fuck you! I can outsource your job to an illegal child worker, and save 5000 € a year! Also, I will revoke your pension, good luck beating me in court, sucker!" and have said man turn around and start defending his former employer, as "hey, if he want to increase his income margin by 0,01 % by ruining my life, that's his right!" or... whatever the fuck. I just... really don't get why people get upset at those pointing out the truth. Sure, it might be uncomfortable, but heck, if I find out someone is a scam artist, or heck: rapes children, whatever, I WON'T just keep my mouth shut, and fall in line about it. Just because it will make some people uncomfortable . Sweeping problems under the rug does NOT solve them.
Libel and defamation have very specific legal definitions. Digital Homicide tried that against him in court, and it doesn't work that way as they found out. The standard for libel in particular in the US is very high. You have to give a statement with false information, and the "victim" has to prove in court that you KNEW it was false when you said it, and that your intention was to damage them. If what you said is true, or they can't prove you knew it wasn't, it's not libel. You don't get to sue for defamation just because your feelings were hurt.
This CS:Go stuff is no different than what Konami's Pachinco machines are in Japan (where gambling is illegal). It's just a middle man in between the gambling.
Last time I checked, Jim made an appeal to dismiss the lawsuit because it is literally the stupidest thing on this planet (No. Not raptors, chickens, or anyone in the Kardasian-Jenner family, though all three are close), and then the Romino brothers made motions to dismiss the dismissal. .... These are the times we live in folks.
Jim, I just want to say that while others may have said it all already, we still appreciate you weighing in on things, even if it's just repeating. I had only heard mention of this whole "CSGO Gambling Thing," and I probably wouldn't have gone out of my way to find out more. So thank you, Jim, and thank God for you.
Dear Mr. Sterling, love your work. don't back down from bully's and I am really glad you have started showing things from greenlight that deserve praise and attention as much as the bad stuff which should be shames off steam. Good work hope you had a great 4th of July
But Jim, haven't you heard? God is dead. What are the poor sods supposed to do? thank a dead god for you? of course not, so they go on and do the next best thing, sue you in the hopes of one day being in the same room as you, it will be a court room but still, they will be in your presence.
Finally someone gets it. We need to thank God for Jim Sterling But Jim Sterling is god. So we must thank Jim Sterling for Jim Sterling and the only way to do that is to be in his presence. Hence the lawsuits.
Nearly once. Jim Romine is trying to sue him, but nobody is taking his case unless he pays them a $75,000 retainer up front. He's currently raised $425 out of $75,000, and it only took him about 4 months. At the rate he's going, he'll have raised it all in less than... let's say 70 years. Also, of that $425, $300 appear to have been donated by the Romine brothers themselves.
***** I don't know it was them because they made all donors anonymous, I just suspect it. If you look at the gofundme page, there was an initial anonymous donation of $100 when it first opened, then after contributions petered out and none had come in for a few months, another $200 suddenly appeared there. The first $100 looks like seed money to me, and the last $200 donation looks like a desperate effort to make it look like the lawsuit was still on the up and up.
at least you explained it. I watched TB's video of him ranting, and I didn't know what he was talking about. Thanks for explaining what was going on Jim.
PigInATuxedo Only on Steam, I think. Check out Jim's and Birgirpall's video on it. I think it's in Early Access or it's some kind of Alpha because... Well, just watch the videos.
Hey Jim, have you heard about that whole CSGO gambling thing?
What's going on? Is it recent news?
Hey Jim, have you heard about that whole CSGO gambling thing?
I don't think he has... this new Pog gambling site seems interesting though.
He should seriously cover it
The real question is, has Jim heard about the whole CSGO gambling thing?
"How could you *LIVE* with yourself for lying and taking advantage of other people like that??"

gotta give him props for performance, he would make a good bitch in court.
Gotta admit, he has steel balls for making that statement, though a brain like month old bread.
He's asking because he really wants to know. He's having trouble doing it all the sudden for some reason.
The amount of people viciously defending tmartn on twitter is just insane. "Everyone makes mistakes, I'll still support you" "Shit happens man, just ignore the haters and move on" "People are just overreacting, it'll all blow over soon"
Y'know, too often, I find, the legal system is just overreacting about, y'know, *the law*. Why can't they just lighten up?
"It's OK if you lied to us and manipulated us into giving you money, guy. We still like you because we're idiots."

what about poundin' it
Oh hai there,welcome to internetz.
The ending was baddas

Maybe someday we'll get an episode on all the shit Konami's been doing over the past couple years too.
wut? o_O
I hope Jim gets onto that but I have a bigger question.... will Squidward ever get finished with those Errands?
Thomas Butterworth
Yeah, I was just about to email him about that. Sounds like something he'd have a good time sinking his teeth into.

Just like how some people think that words can hurt more than physical acts.

Never seen The Simpsons? This Carl Carlton is an imposter!
Hell yeah!
Jim, Hey Jim have you heard about that CSGO gambling scam with the Tmartn and the manchester Syndicate.
The what?!?!?!?
Syndicate does not represent the people of Manchester, I feel compelled to state.
+ribena Manchester is a strange place. Last time I was there, an Arabic man gave me a rose. I mean, he was nice, but it's weird.
The Nekomancer That's not particularly weird.
ribena It is when you come from a small town with like 99% white British people, and it was like unprovoked.
Hey Jim, have you heard of this whole CS:GO gambling controversy?
i cant believe this is 5 years old but i still remember this shit happening. What a good video
Saw this in my sub box and thought it was Monday again already lol.
Jim sometimes likes to spoil us
Yeah I thought I got stuck in the past again.
if only there was someone to thank for him

"but it's just cosmetics"
I'm putting up my username and avatar up for gambling. Just give me your parent's credit card details and you stand a chance to WIN BIG.
DiscoClam
Sounds awesome! Can I put my avatar on the line as well?
I love that argument. Because only money has a monetary value.
"Hey kid! Give us some money and we'll enter you into a draw to win a bunch of makeup!"
"Isn't that gambling."
"Lol No stupid. It's just cosmetics, also play Fantasy Football. That's not gambling either apparently."
I'm starting to really despise that attitude from people that seriously mean that.
digital goods given real world monetary value and used to gamble, sorry it is much much more than cosmetics at that point.
Anyone else notice Tmartn's "about to burst into tears" face in his response vid? He's terrified.

But lets be real we ALL knew that those have always been gambling whether we wanted to admit it or not.
memnarch129
Heh...now I'm going to take sides in replying to someone.
(and in many cases it can be tougher to return said Amazon goods, depending on what they are)
Just had to let that out.
Dat sexy jazz remix in the opening.
that opening was perfect.
That saxophone entrance makes me gloryhole widen like a wooden wall after a tank runs into it.
Hahahahahahaha that's awesome to hear. In a creepy sexy way lol. :-D Glad to hear I'm making gloryholes widen....gotta put that on my resume lmao
While there may be bigger channels I still enjoy your work Jim and will continue to do so.
The best part is that prosyndicate has just uploaded a new video where he
1. Jokes in the description that he doesn't own the game that he is playing.
2. Tells everyone to ignore the haters because things are fine.
And he's just as popular as ever.
Unfortunately, a lot of people are imbeciles.
"most of them shinies"
Jim likes to live dangerously.
Skins are like Jewelry, they're worthless but look pretty so people buy them or pawn them to the marketplace
also the betting websites are absolutly gambling collateral, like a diamond encrusted watch or your M4 Hyperbeasts
when people buy a thing it has value. it has value the instant it's bought.
That's why most thing have value. lol
+Graey Daze "Value is not contained inside a thing but is within one's desire for said thing."
- Some random fortune cookie
Jj Harrison-Eason everything is worth exactly as much as you can convince someone to pay for it. So I approve of that cookie fortune
Jim owns the pog gambeling site. Hes a fraud!
''but its just skins for pogs, everyone makes mistakes''
I read it belongs to the Jimsaw. Don't worry, you've made a common mistake.
More like covered in "pog juices"
pog juices?
no wait, i don't want to know.
These guys have the personality traits to eventually run a bank in America. I'm sure Wells Fargo would love their "outside the box" way of thinking.
If it's only considered gambling if you are betting real money, then wouldn't most casinos that trade chips for money technically fall into this loophole? Seems pretty ridiculous to me.
skins and chips are the same thing lol
+Brett Lawrence in this sense it is. Skins have dollar amounts attached to them. They are literally poker chips on this website.
This is actually why chips were invented and that loophole was closed decades ago.
I think the difference is, casino itself exchanges your money for chips and back. With these schemes, the skins are sold on Steam, not on the gambling sites themselves. IANAL though.
Inceptual Games that's the point
yea yea. I know you are the owner of cat simulator Jim. Sickening selfpromotion.
hippocrit
+Frank Ivansson Jim secretly owns Digital Homicide. Conspiracy busted
Exposed
+Madway depends how the lawsuit goes, maybe he will be. =p
GhostofPhoenix Any news on how it's going?
love the jazzy intro!
Jim has a legal team? That must be a fun job.
Also the Jimquisition is the best way to signal boost it. I for one, didn't hear of this before this vid
Also I was actually subscribed to TMartn back when he was making BlOps2 vids and I was really into BlOps2. But I unsubbed ever since I got out of cod.
What a weird way to find out what he's been up to.
he's had it at least since digi hom threatened him with a law suit, and probably before that to.
Angry Bidoof He did mention he had a lawyer, but not an actual legal team.
Well he does have a lot of idiots trying to sue him, so it is a necessity.
Streling lied. Boglins Died.
Fucking fantastic.
#MakePoglinsGreatAgain
#BoglinLivesMatter
I thought you were serious at first, then I fucking lost it halfway through.
its a mock site xD
Alright, I'm using your phrases JIm. There just to fuckin' perfect.
Lovely new intro 10/10 would listen to every day.
:-D
Love it too, but btw, it isn't new, I'm pretty sure it's for all his unscheduled videos!
Yeah he's not using my version for ALL the videos, only for the bonus ones...been doing this since about March I believe :-)
+Carl Catron Wouldn't mind if he did!
It's 2018 and look what's happened now...
yay Jimquisition twice this week with having to replace half my pc stuff this week I needed a bit of a pick me up and this did just that. Thanks Jim!
Your intro was brilliant. Such a legend XD
Thank god for you!
subed!!!
sube
sube sandwich
sube par
sube marine
+Spitfire200 +Jeff Albertson I'm laughing way too hard at your comments.
I just like listening to this in the background, don't know why. I just like Jim telling people off.
Oh, Jim, I'm glad I caught you. Did you here about the whole CSGO lotto controversy thing?
Oh! Haha. Sorry, I see that you are already aware. I probably should have expected as much, haha
Cunny Funt
Nice one for including that sample from the game. Game was mental.
Jim, you add so much beyond the facts. your delivery, style, and the context you frame the subject in are why I love your content so much.
You don't get to sue for defamation just because your feelings were hurt.
its a dark, dark day when its been another 6 months and nobody still gives a shit
Muh greasy Boglin desires can finally come into fruition!
really love the outro today, so smug, it's hilarious
I can't get over that new intro. So smooth. So soothing. I could listen to it while playing Earthbound.
I fucking love you Jim
I come from 2018.
Legislation is going forward!!
Can you trade bogs?
I am not into gaming so deep /anything deeper than playing actual games/, but I really enjoy this kind of episodes you make; thank you. Kudos, man!
That broken image pic is a blast from the past.
This CS:Go stuff is no different than what Konami's Pachinco machines are in Japan (where gambling is illegal). It's just a middle man in between the gambling.
Speaking of defamation lawsuits, whatever happened to that digital homicide suit?
I heard that it didn't even get into court, this is not confirmed though
Last time I checked, Jim made an appeal to dismiss the lawsuit because it is literally the stupidest thing on this planet (No. Not raptors, chickens, or anyone in the Kardasian-Jenner family, though all three are close), and then the Romino brothers made motions to dismiss the dismissal.
.... These are the times we live in folks.
this shit's gold but I'm starting to miss FucKonami News
I actually didn't know about any of this, so thanks for the comprehensive episode Jim! :)
I reckon Jims legal team just sips martinis in a penthouse now until he gives them a phonecall.
What is the cop game footage in this video?
~thank god for Jim
It's funny cause they got away with it and still have a fanbase and everything :'^)
I take it that the fun with Digital Homicide went well?
Jim,i find myself respecting your channel more and more.Good journalism and great ethics.
I'm thoroughly convinced Jim's lawyers all have bunny ears.
That image of Lightning's derpy face.
I want it.
JIM! Did you hear about this CS GO betting scandal? it's some serious fucked up shit
OK, this is the best CS:GO Lottogate editorial/newsy yet. Thank God for You!
Dear Mr. Sterling, love your work. don't back down from bully's and I am really glad you have started showing things from greenlight that deserve praise and attention as much as the bad stuff which should be shames off steam.
Good work hope you had a great 4th of July
.... I feel kind of stupid that I wish POGS FOR BOGLINS was a real thing.
but you don't have neither of those either..
I've got pogs. All 90s kids had pogs.
True dat.
True dat.
LordFlashAdder you can always wish
i dont have pogs because it wasnt a thing here
the cringe at the start of the vid...
Lots of cringe
OMGGG POGS GOBS POGLINSA@!!
+Mc'Meme sounds to me like you might need to break those chains of love.
I got laughs.
InMaTeofDeath mmmm... I don't get the meme...
Hot Drill Queen Sax is back!
Hahahaha Yeah, and a DAY early too. That was an awesome surprise. Glad you like it. :-)
I wish Hot Drill Queen Sax was the normal title theme
Hot Drill Queen Sax sounds like the kinkiest nightclub ever.
Another informative Jimquisition episode. Good job and well said. And... Thank God for you, Jim. PS: The opening skit was hilarious. :D
Jim putting the gun on the table at the end. Nice!
But Jim, haven't you heard? God is dead. What are the poor sods supposed to do? thank a dead god for you? of course not, so they go on and do the next best thing, sue you in the hopes of one day being in the same room as you, it will be a court room but still, they will be in your presence.
Wait, what? God isn't dead. I just saw him win 40 pogs!
Nietzsche however is dead.
You could say he won 40K POGS!!! PRAISE JIM FUCKING STERLING SON THE GOD EMPEROR OF POGKIND!
Lorenz Zahn What can I say, he paid the price of looking at the abyss that was god for too long.
Finally someone gets it.
We need to thank God for Jim Sterling
But Jim Sterling is god.
So we must thank Jim Sterling for Jim Sterling
and the only way to do that is to be in his presence.
Hence the lawsuits.
POGLINS OMG POGLINS POGLINS!!!11!!
Hey Jim how many times have you been sued on?
now*
just once
do we know if that's still going on? Or has the DH sue been resolved?
A year later and everybody forgets. People still watching these guys' videos. /shrug
at least you explained it. I watched TB's video of him ranting, and I didn't know what he was talking about. Thanks for explaining what was going on Jim.
What is this cop game you are playing?
Enforcer: Police Crime Action.
BLACKIESBOY Is it on steam?
PigInATuxedo Only on Steam, I think. Check out Jim's and Birgirpall's video on it. I think it's in Early Access or it's some kind of Alpha because... Well, just watch the videos.
I'm pog rich but bog poor. this is great
I have a collection of Pogs with pictures of Boglins on them. Over 312.
Oh, and as for the whole CS;GO fiasco, I find it globally offensive.
The intro was the first pog joke I chuckled at... Well played Jim
I didn't understand the beginning of the video until I watched it mostly through and found what he sourced it from, Thank God for you Jim.
