    Works perfectly! I used a bit different DSUB screw terminal. The screws were in one row. But after assembling everything, it all works! There is a guy who makes adapters by himself, but that costs almost double as this solution. You saved me a few bucks, thank you!

      @@filiplenczkiewicz9229 same, that was my issue too. Picked up a used micro, the important thing is to get one with wire connectors because otherwise you’ll need to solder the connections! So look out for that when buying one. Also, I recommend getting wires with plastic ends that fit to the arduinos connectors. Ended up being ~20€ for all the parts, with shipping maybe 25€.
      Just wanted to add that before this I have never used an Arduino before, so it’s really easy to do even for beginners ;)

      @@paulharris8623 It sounds like you had the wrong settings in the boards menu when you programmed it. You can try to put it in bootloader mode when the upload starts, but if it's reporting a USB device error you may have had the 3.3V board selected which has a different clock frequency. In that case you may have to flash it with an external programmer (you can use the second Leonardo).

    Hey man! Great video and write up on this. I'm running into an issue where my shifter works for gears 1-4, but won't detect 5th, and 6th detects as R without the R Lock out (so you can use reverse with out without the lockout). I've used the examples provided. I ran the ShiftPrint example and it shows the same behavior as my windows game controller properties window does. Do you have a write up on how to calibrate the shifter by chance? The shifter works fine with my G920 wheel and pedals, but I'm upgrading to the Moza R5 and don't want to spend $150 on their shifter right now, or $90 on the amazon special. Thanks for any help you can provide.

    • @dave.madison
      @dave.madison  3 месяца назад +1

      Hi! If you can't get into 5th and 6th is showing as reverse, that's a sign that either the reverse connection (green wire, DB9 pin 2 / Arduino pin 2) or the power for the reverse connection transistor (red wire, DB9 jumper between pins 3/9) is bad. You can test that enabling the 'SendReverseRaw' option in the 'ShiftJoystick' example, and pressing down on the shifter shaft. The button (#8) should be "on" when the shifter is pressed down, and "off" otherwise.
      For calibration, upload the "ShiftPrint" example, open the serial monitor in the IDE, and send any character. Then follow the on-screen instructions. Once calibration is complete, copy the result and paste it into the indicated place in the "ShiftJoystick" example to apply it.

    • @dave.madison

      No, you cannot use the Uno out of the box. The Uno does not have the hardware onboard to act as a native USB device like the Leonardo.
      On some of the more expensive Uno boards it's possible to do some more advanced setup to make it act as a joystick, but I don't recommend it. You would also need to make some changes to the firmware to support the custom HID libraries needed.

    • @dave.madison
      @dave.madison  Год назад

      If all of the other gears are working but reverse then it's likely a problem with the connection to the reverse button (the wire to pin 2 on the Arduino). You can set the "SendReverseRaw" option to send the state of the pin as its own button, which may help you diagnose the problem.

      I got it figured out. I found 2 tutorials which used PIN7 to PIN 3 to VCC. not sure which one would have worked but it was a more simple wiring the 3/9. @@dave.madison sorry for the late reply, forgot about this lol. So I kind of got it working, I uninstalled the Logitech Gaming software and uninstalled/reinstalled the Leonardo and it stopped reading as a Logitech rumble pad. Idk why but yea when I first did it and still had the Logitech software it was being recognized as a “Logitech Rumble Pad”.
      So now it’s working but still have two issues I can’t seem to solve.
      1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th read fine, but it won’t recognize 5th gear or reverse. I’m not sure if the G27 is different than the G26, reverse is the same location as 6th but you push down on the lever and go into 6th for “reverse”. So I could see why that might be an issue, but not sure why it won’t read 5th.
      For most of the iracing and other sims I play where I need a shifter I could get away with using 1-5 and mapping 6th as reverse. But not having 5th really messes it up, and using 6th and reverse independently would be a nice bonus.

    No clue what's going on. Using a Pro Micro, Every gear in the ShiftPrint is being displayed as being gear 5 / 6. Before it worked somewhat, but gear 1 and 2 were detected as 3 and 4.... Soldering is all solid. I'm at a loss for ideas.

    • @dave.madison
      @dave.madison  Год назад +1

      It sounds like your X-axis connection is bad. Either the solder joint is weak or it's connected to the wrong pin. Try printing the X-axis position as you move it, see if it's stable.
      If it is, try running the serial calibration (in the ShiftPrint example) to set new gear thresholds. It's possible that your shifter's inputs are outside the normal range.

    • @MiataDriverX
      @MiataDriverX Год назад

      @@dave.madison It seems to me there's a bad connection somewhere indeed but I am clueless as to where. The solder connections are solid (checked them with a digital multimeter). It has worked for the past hour but suddenly stopped. The only idea I have is that the Pro Micro may somehow have been damaged.... I'm going to do some more testing to see if that is indeed the case. Reading the output from the shifter itself gives predictable and accurate readings...
      EDIT: Looks like after reflowing it's fixed itself....Again. If it starts acting up again, I have a spare DB9 and a spare Pro Micro, and I suppose I'll just fabricate a new one. As usual the biggest cause of trouble may just be between the chair and the desk 🤣
