Sure autotune came out 97, but there was STUDIO pitch correction in the 80s. So no, there were still audio enhancements in the 80s

I couldn't get through all of it..... I love Bey, but vocally, she's not a Whitney Houston. But she can do so much and she's the "hottest" singer out right now. She's pretty and can dance. But vocally, she's not on Whitney's level. But in her defense, singers don't "sing" they way they used to because of the influence of hip hop. Beyonce sings great for now, but if she was in the 70's(Chaka, Aretha, Natalie, Diana, Dione,Gladys, Barbra), 80's(Whitney, Anita, Phyllis Hyman, Stephanie Mills, Teena), or 90's(Mariah, Envogue, Celine,Toni) she would probably be singing material that showcases her voice. Most of the material is more hip hop and doesn't focus on singing ability. BUT, we all know she can sing, just in a generation that doesn't focus on that, it's hard to compare her to singers that sung when singing was the focus. AND IT'S DAMN HARD TO COMPARE TO "THE VOICE".

Whitney's tone and vocal placement is just more agreeable and exciting. I would argue Beyonce is the better singer from a classical and technical point. But everything from Whitney's tone to her diction just clicks to me. I think people need to admit Beyonce is at least on Mariah/Celine/Whitney's level and that they just dont care for her music as much.

You chose great clips of Bey to put against the Voice. She held her own. They attacked notes very similar but Whitney had a certain purity to her voice that NOBODY can beat. SKMRify That's great! I used to dislike Monica Naranjo's and Barbra's timbre and now I love them. Some tastes change with time and some even had to be learned. For me Aretha and Beyonce and Patti Labelle were an aquired taste too.
SKMRify I never liked high belting that much either but Monica, Vanessa Amorosi and SoHyang are making me like them more. I prefear a clean sound though, Vanessa on "heroes live forever" for the Olimplics has the most goreous high belts I've heard so far, but she usually sings very roughly.

I wasn't expecting Bey to win lol. But, to be fair, her consistent support is a teeny bit wider than Whitney's. In reality, Whitney would be considered the superior vocalist because of her vibrato, her resonance/projection in every register and her chest development. Honestly though, Beyoncé's really not that far behind.

Bey wins lows very hard, I thought they would tie on belts but Whitney deffinetly won (Bey's G#'s were better tho) and for head voice Beyonce is really amazing but Whitney might be the BEST among pop singers, wow. About the vocals. I definitely have to give the lower register to Bey. I mean I never saw Whitney as someone who was really good at her lower register. I mean dont get me wrong its nice, but compared to people like Mariah, Aretha, Patti etc. She was pretty ehh down there.

Headvoice, come on now. While Whitney did have a beautiful HV, Beyonce's head voice is soooooo much more flexible. Whitney was actually somewhat inconsistent past A5. As an overall vocalist its very hard to say but......I have to give it to Beyonce. I mean without Whitneys beautiful tone, her voice would have been...average. But thats my opinion. Btw, I dont think Whitney was a Soprano. More of a Full Lyric Mezzo.

The belts and headvoice are debatable, but there is no way Whitney has better low notes than Beyonce. As far as belts, yes Whitney does win that because of her tone and great resonance, BUT technically speaking, because is the better TECHNICAL belter only because she knows how to evenly mix her belts all the way up to her highest note, where as Whitney didnt add enough head voice to her belts when she needed to. Head voice like I said is a shining point for both, but because of the fact that Beyonce has more ease there and flexibility, I have to give it to her. To me, Beyonce is the better technical singer. Sorry.
Whitney sounds Soprano to me. She has a frail lower register, dense middle and a solid sound column all the way up the scale. Beyonce on the other hand, has a denser, more sustainable lower, light middle and a sound collumn that loses steam above E5 when belting and loses steam above Bb5 in HV. But Beyonce's HV is noticeably, not too considerably darker than Whitney's. I think it may be because Beyonce places higher than Whitney who is notorious for her forward HV. I also like how much softer and warmer Beyonce's HV is than whitney's. In fact, I prefer Beyonce's voice. Whitney is just nothing but hype to me LOL.
Really? I think if anything Beyonce would sound more like a soprano than Whitney would for multiple reasons. 1. Beyonce's belting register was soooo light up until she was about 28. Like really light. 2. Her head voice, although thick like a Mezzo, is very operatic and has ease up there like a typical soprano. 3. Her ability to keep her natural tone all the way up to her top note, when most Mezzos have a change in tone around Eb5. 4. Her ease in her belting register. But I have to disagree about her losing steam above E5, because she has belted some of the F5s in life lol and her F#5s are great too. And she definitely has steam wayyyy up to at least Eb6. Butttt I do feel exactly like you with the whole "Whitney is nothing but hype" statement. She is a great vocalist, undeniable, but as an overall artist, she was just basic to me.

Beyoncé has excellent technique that has given her longevity. She is well trained, packaged, and produced, but she gets swallowed when compared to others. If you compare Whitney at her best (1987-1992), she is unmatched. She had a refined voice but used it in a raw way. Bey is never raw.
Lows: Beyoncé.
Mid soft: Whitney. More pure, less nasal than Bey.
Mid belt: Whitney. Her signature.
Upper Chest: Whitney. Bey only mixes.
Mixed Belt: Whitney. This Beyoncé’s strong suit, but she get nasally and thin.

As a singer myself I’d listen To Beyoncé over Whitney Houston any day of the week.. Beyoncé’s style is just more interesting to listen to. She does so many things with her voice. No shade to Whitney , She gives great tone and Has a ton of Powerful belts but besides that... what else is there? Beyoncé can give you Toné, runs, dynamics, crescendos and all that of other stuff. Her fioritura and flourishes are only comparable to Mariah. Her technique and natural voice allows for complex vocal passages and ease in navigating them, not only that, but her knowledge of other styles of music and adopting them into her own style allows for much more interesting and intricate embellishments in her music.

People say Whitney had better belts than Beyonce but what everybody neglects is the fact that Beyonce can sing messa voce in mix voice and belt F5s on closed vowels while Whitney always had to switch to head voice to do messa voce or to belt closed vowels on high notes. In terms of control over the mix register in general Beyonce is much better than Whitney. Apart from that Beyonce has demonstrated an extensive ability to create different kinds of distortion to her belts (growls, raspiness, abrasive/metalic color...).

Markiese Franklin lower register is NOT a tie, Beyoncé won that by a land slide. Beyoncé has excellent projection, breath support and resonance down to B2/Bb2 while Whitney lost/dropped her support at D3 and lost a lot of clarity and volume below that. Her lows were decent but not that great to certain extent. As for head voice Beyoncé's head voice goes up to a connected E6 while Whitney's tops out at C#6, they both have beautiful/operatic head voices bit Beyoncé's a lot more agile and can execute coloratura level riffs up there that not even Whitney could pull off. From C5-Eb5 I'll give the win to Whitney simply because the amount of resonance, weight, power, and volume she carries throughout that part of her range but from E5-G#5 (in belts)she gets a little too chesty and loses some ease because of it while Beyoncé from E5-G#5 (belting) maintains a more balanced mix and compete freedom up to G#5
