I rode this trail many times back in the 1990s on a 26er hardtail with rim brakes. Seeing it again brought back many memories. It's a beautiful trail, well worth the trip.
Fantastic footage. It all came back to me after watching. Yes!! Super Fantastic descent, sooooo fun now I remember! Oh yeah we did Just Outstanding trail in morning and Plunge in afternoon. Epic day
Was the plumb line downhill 1987 in Bishop California. I won first place single-speed division the start was 11,000 feet plus elevation in descendants 7,000 ft in 7 MI and then 5 me of washboard and gravel flat. I rode with the Berkeley Trails Union... Out of Berkeley. We are legendary. The shirt I'm wearing in my profile picture here is the 1987 plumb line downhill that I won single-speed category in 5th place over the entire field. I rode in Oakland edition Boss 26 hardtail. Made by Carlo Luiga
I think it was slightly overbiked. I still had a good time but I think I would have enjoyed it just as much on my sentinel which is 160 front/150 rear.
@@jugrnot8 I would say it’s fairly well defined. Since this was my first time on this trail I would recommend navigation as it is super helpful! Thank you!!
@@omartish I shuttled with friends so I didn’t use a service but I believe sierra south does a shuttle service. For food I would definitely some snacks and then a lunch along with some electrolyte drinks (3-4) and a full hydro pack. Hope this helps!
I need to return to this trail on my emtb. There is quite a bit of climbing on this trail that will sap your energy quick. I was unprepared on snacks that's for sure! There is a spring near the big open meadow to refill water which in nice.
Hah yeah, I think it’s doable on a normal bike but you do need a lot of snacks and electrolyte drinks to keep you hydrated. Yeah I’ve run into the spring water and heard it was really good and cold!
@@Chris-505I may head to this trail next week with a group. Where is the drop off spot for a shuttle if I have someone drop me off on top and pick me up at KRB?

5:16 is that your rear tire / rim strikes?
WTF! That is some serious descent! My legs would be long dead and useless before I'd get through half that lol. Awesome bro!
@@MTBr-of-SoCal haha yeah the legs were definitely toasted after!
Great trail thanks for posting. I got to say the ultimate downhill badass race

I'm lucky to have this in my backyard.
Aww man you’re really lucky lol
Love this trail! I do it at least once a year!
@@babylonsfalling It’s a great all day mtb experience!
Did that around 2010. might have to find my way back there. Snow at the top and 110 at the bottom.
@@bobaloo682 haha yeah. It was good weather at the top and then at the very bottom it is super hot (I think around 95-98) that day.
This looks like a really fun trail to ride. Great job!
Thank you, Appreciate it!
Fantastic video! Don’t put water on your rotors. Hope to see you all on the next one!
@@Brad-im2ot Thank you!! Yeah lol it was a friend that did that because his brake was going out lol.
This looks amazing
@@BikeLA23 it was a fun all day ride!
Nice film. Curious when you shot this… logistically thinking about water crossings/availability during the summer months. 👍
I filmed this in June 2024. I would say the best time to ride this is from May-October.
Agree, a lot of climbing. Over 2600 ft elevation gain.
Haha yeah, it’s not just a decent
Don't be fooled! There is quite a bit of climbing on this trail. Watch out for snakes.
@@coloradosportsrecycler9852 yeah lol, it doesn’t start the “plunge” until after 2,000ft of climbing lol
Bro this looks so much fun. Is there a website with information about the shuttle or how does it work?
It was an awesome experience for sure! Yes there is. I believe there are several shuttle services available if you google “Cannel plunge shuttle”.
Thanks for the awesome video. How much should you speed this up?
@@JonathanVegas1 thank you! And none. It’s just clipped to the interesting parts lol.
Curious on how you thought the Relay felt… over biked or do you think the 170 bike is way to go on this trail?
I think it was slightly overbiked. I still had a good time but I think I would have enjoyed it just as much on my sentinel which is 160 front/150 rear.
Gotcha, I have a big enduro bike and a shorter travel trail bike… probably bring the short travel and keep it spicy!
How long is the shuttle ride ? Thinking of riding it soon. Thanks
@@chrisgille669 it’s about 1 hour ride.
And its an actual trail not just some fire road. 12 miles. 5k feet. Takes well over an hour lol.
What are the shuttling services like?
I was fortunate enough to have a friend group to shuttle with, but I heard there is a service offered to shuttle this trail.
Is there still a lengthy HAB section in the middle of the Plunge or was it rerouted?
I believe it is still there
Cool👍
did you and your buddy just leave a car at each end?
@@nateums Yeah. It takes about 1 hour to drive up to the drop off point. Also there is shuttle services available
Great vid!
Obviously, e-bike legal?
I have one to and want to do this ride.
Cheers!
Thank you and yes!

The shuttle to the top is ridiculous. I think the Downyvill downhill is longer. & don't forget Noble canyon.
@@ericharris197 yeah the shuttle to the top is like 1 hour.
Have you ridden Downieville? If so, how does this compare?
I have not gotten the chance just yet. Other largest downhill I’ve ever done is skyfall.
