Engine light on at 65,000 miles. Replaced gas cap, but still had the issue. Replaced purge valve and problem solved. Parts $48.00 Labor $0.00 Thanks for the awesome video !!!!
Having the same issue and fix it.
Thank you. With all the BS on RUclips its great that people like you make a difference for the better.
My only minor complaint about the video is you don't show us exactly where this part is in the engine. I’m sure i’ll be able to find it when I go look, but I currently have no idea where that is or where to start looking. Other than that, GREAT VIDEO, and I will be doing this ASAP on my 2016 Colorado which has 180k miles on it. That truck has been reliable as hell. Light came on a couple months ago. Have only had to replace the alternator and got a tuneup last spring/summer. That’s the most i’ve spent other than oil changes and tires/brakes/shocks/struts.
At about the 1min mark I point directly to it and show u
@@SirWilliamGoes yes, you do, but without context to where that is I had no idea where to start looking. Is that the left, right, front, back, do I need to remove the cover, etc.? That’s all i’m saying. It would help to have a shot of the full engine compartment from several feet away, and then move the camera to the location of the part.
Again, just some very minor constructive criticism. Everything else was perfectly explained and well done. After about a minute of looking around (started on the opposite side) I found the part, so my response is a little reactionary. I was just worried I was going to go on a wild goos chase. Much appreciated, sir. Keep up the good work.
For those wondering, left side of the engine under the main engine cover to right around where the air filter is.
Thank you for this video. Everything in the video is accurate and I was able to correct the problem with my 2015 colorado. I kept getting the code and also a few times the truck stalled when approaching a stop sign kind of fast. I also experienced the hard to start after filling up symptom. I changed out the part last week and cleared the code. I have noticed improved driving and no hard start after getting gas today. Thanks again.
Awesome. Glad to hear!!
Got this code at 59k miles, right at 60k. Was able to order the exact part for $22, will change this upcoming Monday. Thanks for showing me how to do so!
Thanks Dude. Mine went out at 107k. Your video made the repair so easy!!
Mine went at 70k miles last week for a 2016. The original was made by Bosch. I purchased a BDW replacement (made in the USA) which comes with a lifetime warranty. Thanks for uploading this!
You’re the man! I’m always scared to work on my own vehicle just In case I mess things up but you saved me a trip to the mechanic. Thanks man!
Just had to replace mine at 85k miles. I think mine had been on the way out for a while though. That valve prevents vapors from the fuel tank from just venting into the air and apparently when it dies it can throw off the air/fuel mix entering the cylinders. I noticed for a while my truck would chug at low speeds (under 25MPH), but on the highway it was fine. I honestly thought it was just my imagination and that I was being hyper-critical of the truck.. until a few days ago when the CEL light came on as I was driving and a check of the codes came up with P0496. I also noticed that sometimes the truck would shudder when coming to a stop and that for a while now whenever I turned the truck on and the dash did it's initialization thing, the CEL would briefly come on but then go out. Now that it's been replaced not only does my truck freaking great now, the CEL no longer lights up when I start the truck. I'm figuring the ECU must have been detecting the problem but the valve hadn't failed completely until this past week.
Unfortunately I didn't see this video until after I had brought it to the dealer to have it fixed, but I had a coupon to get some bucks taken off the bill and I had some other service done at the same time that I needed to have done. Now that I know what it is and how easy it is to replace, next time it happens I'm doing the work myself.
Thanks for posting. Just did mine and I'm optimistic it fixed the issue. The hose with the elbow was a little more difficult than imagined, but I didn't want to force it and break anything. Had the codes along with the remote not working and when you started it after refueling, it chugged a bit before settling down. Thanks again.
Also, got it for $29 on Amazon.
Sweet!! Glad you got it fixed up
Just watched video my 15 z71 51,000 just coded same code . GM gave me a letter to fix. 10 years or 120,000. More of a hassle than fixing myself. Thanks
Thank you Sir! Disappointed that with only 33k, this code popped up, but am happy that this was an inexpensive fix. No problems finding my 10 mm deep well.
🤙🤙
Awesome, very helpful video. Just got this code this morning at 52,200 miles. May just replace myself instead of hassling with the dealer.
Thank you, sir!
You are a scholar and a gentleman!
Saved me time and money and headaches!
My 2015 Z71 was hard starting after refueling. And service light on. 2 10 day delivery Amazon $60. Same part #. Easy breast fix. If you can blow air through it then it is broken. A new one you cant blow through. Push in on the green tabs both sides to remove the plastic tubing. Be careful not to crack it. Not much room to move the tubing. Easy fix. 10mm socket with 3" extension.
Easy fix. Dont forget to remove pos battery lug. 10mm also. Lol
2 weeks light never came back.
Good video.
Thank you for the video saved me money and time!!
Thank you so much for posting this video. Can’t believe how easy this was, even for me.
Thank you so much! That is exactly what's wrong with my Colorado. I'm gonna try and do it myself!!
yep, had to replace mine as well, had a mechanic do it, besides part cost (I bought it and gave to mechanic) it cost 100.00 labor. that was at about the 60-thousand-mile range, I've seen enough vids online concerning this that I believe GM has a part quality issue or it is due to bad fuel or a combination of the 2. OH, and I also had to replace the gas/fuel cap, not actually related, but that's been the extent of repairs on my used 2016 chevy colorado lt v6, I bought it with 51K mi.s on it and that's not bad.
Thank you so much, I'm getting ready to replace my 2nd one in a year and I only have 46000
You will never have a problem if you get a Tacoma🙃 good job man😄
You’ll have so many other problems though😂
Also, buy American!!
Top result from google. Thank you for posting.
Not a car guy by any means, but just ordered my part through the Amazon link you provided; looking forward to giving this a go!
You got this. Its extremely easy
My 2015 Colorado is sitting at the dealership right now for the same problem. Just rolled over 47,100 miles and the light came on. Chevy sent me a letter in 2018 that would cover it for free for 10 years or 120k miles.
Getting the lines disconnected: The electrical has a single latch that is easy to see. The larger line has two green buttons on opposite sides of each other that need to be pushed in simultaneously to release the line.
Mine just went our You're the man for this
Helped me fix my truck! Thanks!!!
Got this done at the dealership near Columbia, MD. The part was $62, labor $400, and diagnosis fee another $200.
Dang!!!
So I got this code! Now I’m going to go to lordco and pick this part up and do what you did ! Let’s see if it goes away
Great video man. Had no idea what a purge valve was 🤦🏽♂️
Glad you found it useful. I'm still not sure I do!!! At any rate hope you got it fixed!
2016 Chev Colorado with 39k and now have P0496. Thank you for the video, I will try and replace it today. Oh and hope I have a 10mm. :)
No prob, glad you found it useful
@@SirWilliamGoes Hey just a follow up. The check engine light has not come back on since I replaced it. Thank you again.
Thanks for sharing this video! Code hasn't popped up on me yet, but good to know!
Thanks for the video. Fixed my issue as well!
Awesome glad to hear
Any idea where it is located on a Colorado z71 2017?
Should be the same spot
Awesome 👏 super helpful video! That did the trick
Thanks for the video. My customer had it in to the Chevrolet dealership for the P0496 and the SES light came back on as soon as they drove away. Turns out the o-ring on the valve got damage during install so the new part didn't work properly. I'm guessing the dealership didn't bother to test drive it after repairs.
Happens so much! Glad you found it helpful
Friend just had his fail on trip to newfoundland. Cost him 75$ cdn to expedite the part from Montreal. He's has the money light on for awhile but hasn't bothered to check the code. I thought that failure would be a stuck open causing vacuum leak and hence the bad performance. However I couldn't blow through his old one.
Thanks man
Thanks, nice repair video, but does your obd reader not reset the codes for you?
I don't have aobd reader. I got the code from auto part store
@@SirWilliamGoes So OBD reader is $30 these days and has saved me a ton of money. Put that high on your auto tool list.
GM > Ford all day.
That being said, I appreciate the help lol
Fixed my problem. Thanks
Awesome!!
Thank you
My 2016 has trouble starting after getting gas - but runs fine after I nurse it to get it started. I hope this is the fix.
@brickhousebragan it worked. SUPER easy fix. $26 dollar part and about 15 min of labor. Thanks ever so much for the video. I am so impressed and grateful that people take the time to share their knowledge with others!
My Colorado has 65k miles and just had P0496 code thrown. About to go replace this bad boy and I am actually concerned that I don't have a 10 mm socket.
That’s always a gamble!!!
Awesome .thanks
THANKS
Ufff 💪I'm lucky in my case it was at 60000. 😎😎
Being an emissions part should have longer warranty
I don't have a check engine light on but on my 2016 I hear a slight ticking noise when I am idle and every now and then a slight bump when idle. Does that sound like this part
Na
It could be, mine on my 2016 is clacking away, put your hand on it when your hear the ticking, you should be able to feel it. You could pull the plug on it as well, might set a code that will need to be cleared but the noise should stop if its it.
@@ssch0021 yes replacing that part fixed mine a couple weeks ago
I wanna know what you got in place of the Colorado? The GMC Canyons have the same issues and at 11,000 miles😡….
Tundra TRD Pro
@@SirWilliamGoes Right on. As much as I love it ….I have a feeling this Canyon ain’t gonna cut it! The Nissan Frontier I had went 120,000miles with very little issues!
@@rockerbob949 yeah i was pretty disappointed. I really liked the truck and wanted it to be good but unfortunately it wasnt
Ha! Mine died at 136k miles. Part from Rockauto and good to go.
The charcoal canister as a trapdoor with a filter inside I took mine off and Road dust just fell out of it I clean the filter clean it out good and the light went off
Nice!!!
So I have not had a engine light yet. I did have my truck running kind of rough and the remote start was not working.
Not sure about all that but my advice is get rid of the Colorado, I did
What's the trick on getting the lines off?
Patience and persistence
Ok. So I had the same issue. The one line has a single latch that is easy to see. The larger line has two green buttons on opposite sides of each other that need to be pushed in to release the line.
I don't get any codes, but I have the issue with no start after a fuel fill up. Usually when I am close to empty, but not to the low level light. Cranks, but won't start for several cranks. Anyone had this issue along with this Valve failure? I have read it could be the Purge Valve..thanks.
I'll give you a 10 on the video. Good to know that's why I have a Ford😂
Thanks!!
Fords are gay bro.
You never mentioned where it is located and what malfunction it caused.
It caused the check engine light to come on (very beginning of vid) its located on the top of engine (see around the minute mark of vid)
How do you test the sensor?
Not sure
Im getting the same code but i dont want to just throw parts at it.
@@misaelacosta1116 this is the most common failure point and I believe the least expensive starting point
My engine light came on today at 44404 with the same issue
Or get same oem part from rockauto for maybe less$
My Chevy Colorado didn’t have a engine light come up but for some reason when I’m going down the highway my RPMs go up and down for no reason do you have any idea on what I should do?? Anyone?
No sorry
These are notorious for failing on both the LLT and LFX V6.
I have the code p0496 and p0442 which will be
Youd have to look them up to find the definition
Might be same Fix.. Purge Valve Replacement for Either P0496 & P0442
Mine didn’t do this until 162,000 miles 😂😭
Under warranty? Should be because it's emissions.
Dealer replaced mine for free common problem with chevy colorado.
Did not work. Still have an engine light
Try clearing the code at an auto parts store see if it comes back
@@SirWilliamGoes the guy at o’Reilly’s hooked it back to the computer and he said the issue is still there and hasn’t changed so I’m wondering what other issues it could be
@@broskie5255 interesting. Did you purchase AC Delco sensor? I've had bad luck in the past with aftermarket sensors. It's possible You may have also gotten a bad sensor, perhaps you could try a different just to make sure
@@SirWilliamGoes I got the right part number but I’m probably just going to drop my truck off at a shop somewhere since I already need other things done as well
This link is for 2015, but I believe the same thing is out there for 2016+
static.oemdtc.com/Recall/MC-10143751-9999.pdf
It is now a free repair by GM with a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty on this issue.
With the part being $25 on Amazon though it may not be worth the time, but helpful for anyone who doesn't want to go at it on their own.
Just replaced in my 2016 with 31,000 on it. :(
I'm at the repair shop 130.00
Don’t top off your fuel tank.
Def not. I don't do it because of the old issues with fuel level sending units, does this also effect the purge canister valve?
@@SirWilliamGoes yes it does, i have a 2015 with 80,000 and it came on once i started letting the pump kick off then keep on filling myself.
Maybe that's what caused mine lol.. I usually wait 30 seconds before refilling after it cuts off on its own to get a full tank, thank you for letting us know!
Go ahead and do one on the 02 sensors when that comes up. That’s a bitch and a half
Ooff i bet.
Code po499
Chevrolet won't do anything for free lol
And they wont make a solid product for $30k + either!!! Catch 22
Thank you
