    I love how the voice talent coordinator/translation team have decided honorable people are British and thieves have an American accent.

      @Reddotzebra 8 месяцев назад +2

      To be honest, the translation team decided that most people should have British accents all the way back when they started voicing these games.
      It's also really noticeable in Final Fantasy 14.

      I suppose it goes all the way back to the NES dragon warrior translation. "Thou Art Dead" But it makes me wonder if the DQ games are written in a classical form of Japanese @@Reddotzebra

    So as I see you're a Pokemon player and this is your first DQ, isn't it? This story is based on DQ4 and has a lot of references to that, like Duffer and Eileen, and of course, Aamon. If you finish this, I recommend that you play DQ4 while you still remember the characters from this game.

      It takes awhile to actually get used to how the systems blend together, but it overall meshes very well!
      The main gameplay differences between this and Pokemon is:
      - Instead of evolving your monsters, you fuse them. Monsters can sometimes rank up during these fusions, but you have alot of creative freedom with how your monsters evolve
      - Pokemon generally have 4 moveslot syndrome (4 moves, attacking or status moves), but in DQM you have a larger variety of moves so long as you invest points into the talent trees
      - You generally don't need to worry about the type advantage tree because weaknesses/resistances vary across ALL monsters. Damage scaling tends to be biased towards actual attacking moves themselves
      - Monsters can follow orders rather than you needing to input a specific command for them in battle. You CAN take direct control using the order command, but the AI for this game generally tends to be good at deciding which move would end the battle soonest, and some monsters benefit from acting independently
      The gameplay loop generally consists of: Scout/catch new monsters -> Level them up and train them to learn new skills -> Fuse them to make them even stronger
      - Fusing them also resets their level to 1, which allows them to gain more skill points and they inherit half their parents point pools.
      This will make more sense as you put time into the game!

      When you start out, you can set their Tactics to "Never use magic" and honestly that'll do you just fine for any of the easy stuff. They'll just smash their faces against the enemy. Take your time in the first plains area. Don't rush. Get used to the mechanics.
      One note is if you scout when there's several monsters fighting you, the entire battle will end if you succeed. So if you're fighting against 3 monsters and scout one on turn 1, then the entire battle is over. You won't gain exp or have a chance to scout any of the others. So that's something to keep in mind.
