One big advantage of Global Shutter is that it makes processes like 3D tracking a million times easier. Rolling shutter is a nightmare to work with if you're filming a video that isn't on a tripod or a very slow moving shot.
An ARRI Alexa LF doesn't have Global Shutter. Actually, the only cinema camera that has one is the Komodo. Monstro, Raptor, any Alexa, etc are not global shutter. And we don't care because rolling shutter exist since film camera were invented. (Search how a shutter in a film camera work, and you'll understand why we say "Rolling" shutter.)
Ha I was today years old when I realized this, although I have said it’s better to buy the Komodo than the a9iii if you shoot video and care about global shutter, they are basically the same price no?
Well i found some issues with this video. Sony a9 iii was introduced here like camera with fast stacked, not global shutter And there is gonna be a premiere of sony a1 II in a no time (19 november) so maybe we will get global shutter in 50 mpx
GS SPEED deceptions! Speed will be imited by the write speed of the $350 CF memory cards & the speed an electronic flash can charge up the capacity and how fast the LCD display can write too.
thanks for the great and detailed explanation! totally makes sense now. So for strobes, do they need to be updated so when it's faster than sync speed it doesn't go into high speed sync mode? or will it just work?
I wish I got to handle the A9iii at ProFusion. Especially since I'm not the type of shooter that would require a GS, or afford one till it goes into everything as you predict. 24MP is fine, I've been working with about that much off my old M50 for years. But 32 off my R7 is certainly amazing, especially for wildlife and birding, or my daughter's dance recidal when I was about 50ft away. But I was really hoping Canon would have had their 3 new lenses to at least show off.
@@AnthonyGugliotta I didn't know in detail what Global Shutter did. The last few days I did my own research but your video was definitely way more helpful than any other info I found. As usual with your content :)
@@michaelahochmayer Much appreciated. I compiled information from quite a few different sources, and then ran my findings by some friends to make sure all the details lined up! :)
Wait you explained a rolling shutter still being on the a1 but that they have the same sensor on the a93 except it 'practically' becomes a global shutter even tho it still functions as a stacked sensor that could have rolling shutter?
I know this question sounds confusing but it sounded like you transitioned from the a1's sensor comparing it to the a93 sensor explaining "it's a global shutter but not really a global shutter, moreso just so reduced that it's practically the same, but not in reality" I just got that feeling from the way you explained it
Global shutter will play important role in video category and the future of mirrorless cameras imagine the future great sensor like stacked sensor become affordable for everyone sine it got replace by global shutter sensor. we the consumer or camera enthusiast can happy with stacked sensor shutting fast moving subject and video with minimum or no rolling shutter and pro they will flex their global shutter
Hello sir, I planned to buy a camera in first half of 2024 Currently i am thinking for canon r8, i want it for fashion photography and videography or is there another option at the same price range, like nikon zf or should i wait for sometime new in 2024 first half.😊
It's been two weeks ever since I started taking photos. This channel is amazing. Legit information, not boring, and professional.
Do you think your Photography would benefit from a global shutter?
Nope, I do not do any studio photography or use electronic shutter 😂
I think It will do better sports photography.
I think my photography would be better served by me spending more time with my camera.
I thought mechanical shutters don't get the same rolling shutter effect in photography?
You can say you don't need it until you need it.

Interesting point! So it has VFX benefits too!
Love you went into the technology, thank you.

Interesting. The source I referenced is incorrect then. Thanks for the clarification.
Film cameras using a leaf type shutter don't exhibit this phenomenon.

@@heathwirt8919 True, tho it's comparable.
No worry's ! @@AnthonyGugliotta
Ah! Well done. Thank you. I have decided I needed to know no more until such time as global shutters reach my camera niche. 🙂
I've hear this a LOT in the last week, or excitement from people without the info behind wtf it is haha...SO thank you for the great explination :)

nice explanations !
thanks anthony
When he posted something I clicked to hear his voice 😅
This was an excellent summary and explanation of Global Shutter. Very helpful, thanks Anthony!!
Glad you enjoyed it. I will say, I learned quite a bit researching this that I didn't know about shutters!

Hi, Can you review the canon powershot sx10is (15 year old camera) and see how good/bad it is in 2023?

Since the begining of time?? Cameras didn't exist then
So now you can take flash at 1/80,000s... something I've never needed in 15 years in photography. LOL.
