    Terry, this salary chat is really interesting. I agree with you, that as a fan, we sit here saying, how can that be? How are we going to recruit other players? So I ask you Terry,....Do you think that players salaries should be made public, and get rid of this stress creating Bullshit?

    Unrelated to upload but going back 30 years ago, 1992, Carlton just missed finals. 1993 return to finals, won 2 finals, lost 1. 1994, expected to improve but failed to win a final. Greg Williams won Brownlow this year.....Holding big hope for next year.

    All well said. Coming from a culture where every athlete's contract is made public and scrutinized down to the penny before the ink is dry, the whole secrecy thing in the AFL is totally bizarre to me, especially since you as members actually have a little skin in the game that US fans simply can't imagine (Green Bay Packers excepted). We generally don't know every little incentive clause, because it's not meaningful to the main discussion, although often find out later if it's triggered. If anyone should know how your fees and support are being invested, it's Club members. But you're deliberately kept in the dark. And yet journos constantly talk as if these salaries are common knowledge. I'm sure people leak stuff but the whole thing is mind-boggling.
    The main info about Owies isn't anything we didn't know. But damn, having to cancel the trip with the boys, which he would be looking forward to for ages, and knowing that's all over for no good reason.....ugh.
    As for the wrong photo, typical anti-Carlton bias from those two.

    You're bang on correct but the context you missed is 360 is run by an essendon man in robbo and geelong sat beside him in palpatine. Even Sam Mitchell disrespects their IQ to their face on the show and its a flag ship show for people who don't know the game. Channel 7 is just as bad and had a delisted hawthorn player in the season promo fergus greene. Adds to why the club has a fuck you mentality now and is serious again being un sociable Hawks.

    Onya weiters. We've never got on the good side of Zacs contract but we signed it willingly, the problem isn't zac its the idiots who over saw it. None of these people know whats been discussed between players agreeing to under pay themselves to stay together, that's real from early in the season. With blues they just pick the highest amount that doesn't make thenm look idiots. GoTez Go blues

    As much as Iam happy for athletes to maximise on salary, but given it’s a 40 personal list the clubs must have to compete at the present and be building ur youth for the future , asking for to much money will send this competition broke , if you want success ur stars have to get payed under their individual worth , Geelong players do it carlton players are doing it , that’s wat it will take for club success and players playing finals footy , greed will undo the best of them , need to have a balanced list

    Doesn't matter if Zac is on $750k or $900k, that was a bad deal. Even if he was playing as a jet, it's a bad deal as there was limited upside at the price and length of the deal. Unfortunately, lengthy, expensive contracts are the current trend. A point you missed re McGovern's WCE contract. Assuming that figure is correct, there is a very good chance it was a back-ended deal and he hasn't been on that money for the entirety of his contract.

    Media is cooked wce are actually doing themselves a dis service if they don't pay JM 1.2. Have to spend the cap (or 95%) whatever the fuck it is. If they don't pay him 1.2 they are padding out his salary across a list of veggies and then when they get good they are fucked because players will have to take a cut. Complete diff situation to Carlton lol. Touk miller should have been on 2m a year for the past 5 and GC would probably be better off rn imo.

      No it's not - it was well known at the time we took him on that we would be heavily front-loading his contract as we had too much space in our cap (you have to spend a minimum of 95% of it) and the high asking price for the first 2 years meant that GWS couldn't match it. We hardly had any players on decent salaries at that stage and there was plenty of flexibility.
      What you say is correct in reverse - Williams got something close to $900k in his first 2 years due to the front-loading. If you believe the various reports at the time, the 6 year contract was worth in the order of $4.2-4.8M, so averaging $680-800k per year. Just say he was on the upper limit of that figure, that would leave $3M after the first 2 years, so $750k for the last 4 years. From what I understand, it is closer to the lower limit, so more like $600k for the last 4 years.
      The problem with these so-called journos is that they hear the front-loaded amount and run with that as the average yearly payment under the contract....🤦

    • @sampaxinos
      @sampaxinos 5 дней назад

      This is how contracts work, they aren’t paid out evenly year by year. The player just agrees to a set $ amount over a set period of years. The club can be flexible on how they distribute that out over that period.

    • @sampaxinos
      @sampaxinos 5 дней назад

      I have no idea what Williams contract is, no one does except the club and Williams. I’m just saying there’s every chance Mitch is right.
