  • The Château de Vendeuvre is situated in the commune of Vendeuvre, near to Lisieux in Normandy. Classed as a Historic Monument both for its exterior and interior, Vendeuvre is a prototypical aristocratic Norman country house.
Here we visit the castle, and the gardens or 'les jardins a la francaises.
Between Falaise and Lisieux, the Château de Vendeuvre is a fine representation of 18th century architecture.
Still inhabited by the Vendeuvre family, this castle will allow you to discover the different facets of the art of living in the 18th century: browse the furnished rooms, visit the kitchen (but no photos were allowed in this part of the Chateau unfortunately), also discover the miniature furniture..
You can then set off to discover the superb gardens.

Loved the painted murals on walls and ceilings. Enjoying tagging along to all the wonderful places you visit until I can hopefully see them one day with my own eyes. The miniatures were incredible if you consider they were made in a time where there was no electricity or modern tools to make them. Appreciate your attention to showing us the detail and your calming and interesting narrative.

Holes could be for iron bars curved upward to fit a window box

You mean to say that people actually LIVE in this totally stuffed place - hardly room to move in any of these rooms, and the amount of 'stuff' is beyond belief ! If these rooms are just used to display all their fine stuff, but they actually reside in more comfortable quarters I could understand, but ??? Lots of beautiful things, but so much of it it's hard to really 'see' anything because it's all surrounded by things competing for attention ! That paneling is I think the most exotic I have ever seen in any house, not sure if it's 'beautiful' - hard to decide when it has so much competition - but it's certainly an amazing house !

I think perhaps the family 'over-stuffed' the downstairs that they open to the public... some of it no doubt was once upstairs. But from the rope at the bottom of the stairs, I presume they live upstairs exclusively. They must make a handy income from opening the grounds and downstairs to the public. I particularly like the Chinese-inspired music and then the Indian music later as the background atmospherics. The modern "space' new-age music... not so much. Going from classic Chinese or Indian music to more Baroque music would have been more appropriate to the history of the chateau. Otherwise, it was a very beautiful tour and a very beautiful chateau. I loved the more formal gardens giving way to the more wild and natural gardens. And the gazebo or cupola (?) water feature with the walls lined with sea shells and the ones done as picture frames with vases with sea shells were fantastical!! The unexpected water features coming from above & who knows where, and the ducks spouting water over the bridge and the stag spouting water were delightful. It was really lovely filming and the short history was appreciated. Thank you for the tour!

Thank you for commenting - this is a huge countryhome “Chateau “ so there is so much more to it than these few rooms that have been open to the public since 1983 - and this stuff are all beautiful historical treasures for us to see with our own eyes! 😍

this is my first encounter with your channel and i loved the content. I have also subscribed and looking forward to watch more videos. The only thing that i found a bit disturbing was the weird chinese or indian meditative music background which are not at all in sync with the exquisite 18th century french beauty of such a chateau and gardens. I would have chosen a stunning classical music or even a soothing meditative one but definitely not chinese :).

Thank you for your comments and joining us on our adventures! I understand your view on the music choice; I choose this music very naturally as this beautiful chateau has its gardens designed and inspired by previous owners and generations of their worldly travels to the orient and Asia and anything chinoiserie was highly fashionable only for the super bourgeoisie society! So this is ‘why’ I loved this musical choice it seemed to fit perfectly to their attempt to recreate the atmosphere from their travels through planting choices, the water features and decor collections. ❤️

The first time I looked at these videos. Love the photography and the content but found the music so out of line with the 18th century atmosphere that the house and gardens seems to be? Just my personal taste. Visionary enhancement by the atmosphere the correct music can create will really make these videos a succes I think. Best wishes. Mute worked though
