    Just a word to some of the people out there who are saying it doesn't work.
    Redstone like this will ALWAYS have issues, if you're on a SERVER. Lag is the biggest enemy of complex redstoning.
    To reset the pistons, remove ALL TORCHES from the lower mechanism, power only the lower mechanism and then replace all the torches, while it still powered. Place in order of how they should be powered.
    MAKE SURE ALL TIMER ARE EXACTLY AS THEY ARE IN THE VIDEO.
    ^This is incredibly important and if you're not doing this. it will never work.
    Again, lag can make stuff like this fail. Sometimes, you just can't build these type of machines.
    KidmischiefHD, thank you for this video. It's a great video and I come back to it quite a bit.
    Best PORTCULLIUMUS VIDEO EVER

    Okay, I'm back and I just want to update on this thing after the last 5 months since my last comment.
    It still works so don't worry. (1.14.4) ->Updated
    If already built in your Minecraft world then it will update automatically so it breaks. Here is how to fix it:
    1.) Remove all the Pistons and Gravel along with the Gate itself (You don't need to remove any Redstone)
    2.) "Power it" - by that I mean put anything that emits a signal on the piston extender like what KidMischief did on 3:14 (He also explains why this it breaks when it updates)
    -The Gate is very sensitive so I advise to be careful in putting blocks near it
    3.) Just put all the pistons back on ***as it is powered***
    4.) Remove the signal so that it will all go back to normal

      Wow, thanks so much for the update! I truly appreciate the time you took to comment for us!

    Glad this still works in 1.14. This is still my go to gate design. Btw, if anyone wants the count for the redstone components, I found it as:
    - repeaters: 7 + (2 x however wide you want the gate to be)
    - pistons: 2 + (4 x gate width)
    - sticky pistons: 1 + (2 x gate width), and 1 more if you want the lock
    - redstone torches: 12 + gate width (if you want to make the gate taller you may need more)
    - 2 buttons of course, and a lever if you want the optional lock
    Although, I may have counted wrong somewhere, and it's possible to lose stuff if you're in survival, so a couple extras might be worth it.

      +TheHighway9 Yes... If you put in a piston and a lever that cuts off the input from the daylight sensor with a block you can use the lever to switch between the daylight sensor and the lock/button...

      +Fusion Films I figured it out but it was a little more complicating than just that.
      had to put a cut off to make it where the sensor just gives a quick charge to the gate so it would release the gravel and had to put a delay on it along with something similar for night time closing the gate

    I just checked, and yes it still works in 1.5 vanilla, though I'm sure about bukkit yet, bukkit hasn't liked this gate in the past.
    If you play on a bukkit server first build and check the triple extender part so you dont waste time building the whole thing. That's the part that gives trouble.

  • @OminousGiggle
    @OminousGiggle 11 лет назад +3

    Just built this on 1.7.2 and it worked.
    Had to reset the bottom pistons a few times after the whole thing was put together. (bottom piston kept staying out, while the other 2 retracted. it did this every second time the bottom pistons were activated) after a little bit of fiddling with them, it worked like a charm.
    And for those who missed the comment, highest your fences can be is 7 blocks tall. anything higher and the pistons will always start to misfire.
    awesome guide though, and thank-you. this is exactly what I needed.

    I have an issue. Idk if I'm an a bukkit server or what, but mine's not working. I double and triple checked that I did every step correctly, but when I cut the torch out to reset the pistons, all but the bottom row close. I killed the red stone power source to close them and then put it back before adding my gravel. Then when I would press the button to close my gate, the gate would kill my gravel and not all the pistons would close. Idk what I did wrong. I even moved the red stone trial that's in front of the gate another block away from the pistons to see if that helped, but it didn't. It still did the exact same thing when I pressed the button. I have no idea what I did wrong or how to fix it.

      Destroy and replace the bottom torches.

  • @King_of_Apathy
    @King_of_Apathy 11 лет назад

    Placing a torch incorrectly in the circuit will affect the entire outcome sometimes creating a feedback loop the circuit can't handle and will freeze. There are simple versions of this gate you can make that work fine if you are having problems. Using one level of sticky pistons. If you are losing gravel the last large update was supposed to fix the gravity affected blocks from breaking. Adding a delay in the process will most likely help as too many things activating will glitch the system.

  • @Mikaelbrooks
    @Mikaelbrooks 11 лет назад

    Extending a redstone track like this without causing a delay is actually really simple. Run the wire 2 out from the base wire 3 spaces back from where you would lose power. Place a repeater with no delay at the end of these wires. Run the wires back to the original cord. It continues the path for as far out as you want, without a delay. Just do this every time you reach the end of your redstone path, and you can keep going.

    For whatever reason, my bottom row of pistons (gravel side of the mechanism) keeps getting power and stays extended. It'll retract for a moment and then it'll extend again.
    Anyone got a fix for that issue?

      I got mine working, but I had to watch a different video. It's more compact, there's no talking, and you build the mechanism around the gate rather than the gate around the mechanism. Also, the video is shorter due to a total lack of rambling and bad jokes.

    Hi I just wanted to thank you for the awesome tutorial of the castle gate. I am playing on the ps4. I started the project two days ago. I went step by step and everything seem to be working at first until I was completely done and the gate just wouldn't go up. Then the button piston wouldn't contract but the two on top seem fine. I gave up the first day since I stayed up until 3 in the morning to figure it out. When I woke up I decided to start the whole mechanic over by removing all the Redstone and repeater. The thing I notice is the regular piston is not contracting the same way your does so I switch to sticky piston for the two button and use regular for the top. Finally problem solve. So everything was going fine now until I got to the second step, castle gate. I got the whole layout done and it just wouldn't contract fully. So I did the same method, I use sticky piston for top two and button one that was attach to gate I use regular piston. Then my last problem was gravel kept breaking. I was about to give up until I started to give it a go again. I tried cobblestone at the bottom row, I tried dirt but of course it doesn't work. I finally did gravel,sand,gravel and it was a success. So now my gate closes and the gravel does not break. Thanks again for the awesome video. I love my gate to my town.

    • @commanderaki1152
      @commanderaki1152 5 лет назад

      TheMischief I’m actually amaze you still respond lol. This is like the staple gate when I start my world. The BUD screws up if you put the gravel while retracted so the solution is power it until you put the gravel and gate, this seems to be the problem for everyone but building this about so many times now I get around that.
      PS: I don’t know how well this works on servers but this works in all minecraft updates for some reason and survived till 1.13 and works in older ones before i quit minecraft in 1.7 to 1.8. (I also still call you KidMischief too, I’m a very old sub)

  • @inshane2k112
    @inshane2k112 9 лет назад

    I used to use this all the time (PC), but I believe this has been broken for some time now. The problem is that the bottom layer of gravel will break every time when falling onto the pistons. The only way to prevent this is to use a solid block on the bottom with sticky pistons instead. . .unfortunately, then it can only retract 2 blocks using this "fix."
    So, the triple piston extender no longer works. . .but it is quite easy to slim down this design for a double extender:
    -Only two rows of pistons are needed, so just keep the bottom 2 rows of lime wool (all other lime wool and redstone on them can be removed). You can also cut out the top row of pistons and redstone from the top part.
    -So for the moving section you will have 2 rows of sticky pistons, a solid block row, 1-3 gravel rows (depending on if you raise the bottom system after part removals), 4-8 gate rows, and 2 regular piston rows.
    I can provide screenshots if anyone needs it.

    Thanks for sharing. The reason yours doesn't need sand/gravel is because the gate only opens up 2 blocks high which is something I personally didn't like so I made a 3 high one. By the way you can make your design much smaller. You don't need a triple piston set up like you have. Just use an expandable double piston extender.

    It's because torches now cannot carry a one-tick pulse. Comparators cannot, also, but it shouldn't matter in this case. Also, there are orientation glitches in 1.5. Redstone will work in one direction, such as south, but not oriented facing north. This, of course, could differ between builds, but certain things don't work in certain directions any more.

  • @TheC1c2c3c4c

    for those of you that don't know a repeater set to 1 and another set at 2 or higher powering a piston that pushes a block in front of it to complete the 1tick circuit. the pistons circuit is inverted so its on then a power outage retracts the piston but because the timer the other circuit which is now on will send a single pulse. its useful if you have a circuit you want to stay on and one that needs to just be on for a second.

    To KidMischiefHD:
    I love this design and just used it for my castle. However there was a problem. Like you stated, there was a slight glitch with the xbox 360 version where the gravel would break or disappear and you offered a fix to it. Well it didn't really work for me, but I found an interesting solution to the problem. If it progresses, I found that replacing the gravel with sand helps.
    Keep up the great designs and DFTBA.
    P.S. Loved the ending to the video.

  • @TheC1c2c3c4c

    to clarify the higher tick piston is on while the original circuit is on and then the circuit you want to be pulsed is on the Redstone torch inverted side with 1 tick repeater.

    This is just a hypothesis, but in theory to extend the gate without a delay, place the initial current leading in dead center to allow 14 blocks in either direction, left and right. Of course this is just a hypothesis, it is worth a try.

    Hello guys the bellow is for XBOX360 USERS
    If you are making this and have it 5 pistons or longer you will need to make it 3 layers of sticky pistons instead of 2. Also switch the top redstone repeater to 3 ticks instead of 2 that way it shows the gate closing more smoothly. Please upvote so others can see if this was helpful. THANKYOU Kidmischief for this por.. portca.. BIG ASS GATE

    to get it to work on the xbox the first repeater he sets in the tutorial needs to be set to 4 (max delay). and make sure the bottom set of repeaters set to 3 (1 away from max delay) and the top to 1. i have built many of these for friends. i even added a "draw bridge" of sorts, using 2 double piston extenders making a 2-wide path, to mine wired into the buttons (connects to the back of the T-flipflop). even have the lock wired!

    If you did every single thing that KidMischief did then it should work. If you built this on a Bukkit server then you should know that this gate will not work anymore.
    You could spam the button for opening the gate, you'll eventually get it to work that way (though it might take a few years)

  • @TheMischief
    @TheMischief  11 лет назад

    Thanks. That's actually what I do now, along with using a flat map and an always day circuit :)
    Anyway the gate is still working fine for me and there's a few here in the comments that have confirmed it working for them as well.

  • @TheMischief
    @TheMischief  11 лет назад

    Someone asked me today if it stilled worked in 1.5 so I checked it myself and worked perfectly fine. Now, if you tried to build this on a bukkit server, that could be the problem as this gate has had problems on bukkit servers. If this is not the case, I would double check everything and maybe even try the troubleshooting video.

  • @TheMischief
    @TheMischief  11 лет назад

    As is, no, it won't work with a lever. However it is possible to use a lever, though you would need an extra circuit and a redesign of the input to make it work. You would need to hook up the lever to a dual edge detector. If you go to this video and skip to 5:40, you can see how I was able to switch from button to lever without changing the overall design:

    Wow... I made a gate just like this myself but yours... but I never once thought about having a lock on the gate. My design also made it impossible for such a luck so I guess I'll be using yours from now on. Awesome job! Subscribed!

    All red stone reacts in similar capacity to ac/dc current. Some previous mine craft issues that may explain your problems are some bugs, in some versions repeaters and pistons reacted incorrectly when linked from certain directions ie. Map north vrs map east west, also not all blocks will carry red stone current ie stone slabs when placed only one high. Running red stone past a repeater or a RS torch even one placed a block higher will affect the RS. In Xbox more pistons = more lag

    Taylor i had the same problem but i fixed it. Minecraft Tutorial: Castle Gate (Portcullis)
    that repeater the second one he places. make sure your is facing the correct way. take it out and replace it. if it doesn't work face it the other way then face it the right way.

  • @TheMischief

    Sounds like it could be a problem with the repeater timings. Double check and make sure the timings are correct.

    First, I was joking. Second, I play on PC and I was in Single Player. I did exactly what he told me to do and the gravel/sand always break and destroy themselves. Also, for some reason the bottom sticky piston doesn't retract like it should. Upon removing the other two pistons above the one that didn't retract had retracted as soon as I removed the two other pistons. So the gravel would be standing out anyways. The gate still opened and closed fine so I used it. I fixed the gravel thing by...

  • @TheMischief
    @TheMischief  11 лет назад

    the floor of the gate is meant to be ground level so you have to dig a hole to install your gate. I didn't do that in the tutorial because it would hard to show the design and fly around it. There is however, an image in the description that shows you the space you need underground.

  • @TheMischief

    Are the top pistons of the extender non-sticky? They have to be non sticky. I ask because this seems to a problem people are running into. Also, check the quick vid in the description. Hopefully that will help too.

    Is this working in 1.7.5? I've been going through every gate tutorial I can find that does a gate like this where the gate is 3 block tall, and none of the redstone wiring works in the latest version. The pistons on the bottom get unstuck from the sticky pistons and the gravel somehow winds up underneath the pistons and everything goes to hell after that.
    At this point I'm calling it a bug in Minecraft itself, because seriously? How does something get unstuck from a sticky piston?

    • @uuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
      @uuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh 10 лет назад

      If the design is buggy, its probably not working in 1.7.5. The sticky piston shouldnt be going monostable, which makes the block unstuck. So im sure that this design will work in earlier versions, but not so sure about 1.7.5

    I had that problem, and it fixed somewhat spontaneously after I messed with the redstone torch on the block next to the bottom piston. You have to take down redstone torches until the redstone next to the repeaters is off. Then power the initial circuit and start replacing torches. I did it rather accidentally, but that is what I was doing when it started working. Good luck.

    You can have any solid block in the place of the fences, just make sure that it isn't going to be something like obsidian.

  • @Perverted_Bagel
    @Perverted_Bagel 11 лет назад

    Oh and the block update detection will also like screw up if too close to redstone from the toggling thingy it's usually best to keep mobs and changes away from it so it doesn't need fixing

    KidMischief and I already know that this gate is broken on all Bukkit servers that run 1.5 or newer. Vanilla servers do get some mixed results single player it also happens, but haven't seen it that much.
    If you're on a vanilla server or singleplayer world then refer to this video:
    watch?v=Pg6vot7U4t0
    If you're on a CraftBukkit server then refer to these steps:
    Destroy the gate

    that was a pretty epic gate and almost needed to change my boxers when that tnts went off. I have a surround sound headset on. But anyway you should make more redstone things. how to light up a huge building with one switch and have like a bonus thing when you switch on the lights etc.

    i don't know if it's just me, but this doesn't work in 1.8.4 - the contraption and pistons extend and retract properly, but the gravel breaks - I'm not proficient enough to fix the redstone since the breaking gravel is due to the top piston flickering on the way down

    If you had problems with your gravel or/and the bottom sticky piston fire when off you have to go back to the beginning and break and replace the piston that makes the current flow through the 2 repeaters facing the purple wool like if this comment helped if something else is wrong reply to this (ive had many problems and know how to fix them if something wrong) by the way nice vid man

    That's the only problem with this design unfortunately. It doesn't work consistently across different environments. I know this works in 1.5.2 single and vanilla smp (I tested it) but it seems everyone is getting mixed results, especially on bukkit servers :/

  • @TheMischief
    @TheMischief  11 лет назад

    It really bothers me because for some it works and for others it doesn't. For me, it worked in 1.5.1 and still works in 1.5.2. It makes it difficult to tell what the problem is exactly. Only advice I can give is follow the troubleshooting video in the description. I wish I could help more.

And I don't know how to fix it... I replaced the redstone tortches and redstone a few times, but it just doesn't work... Help me please...

    no longer working for 1.8, update is when making the flip flop, while trying to pass through the block, you now need to have a torch on the sending side powering that stream, but disconnected from the button stream. Repeaters are only on if they are receiving power.

  • @Tommyboypsp

    when I made it, it worked for a minute or two, then when I had pressed the button, the gravel kept breaking and the sticky pistons weren't pulling the other [sticky] pistons. could you tell me what's wrong?

    wow, i never really realized that because a button is a temporary signal, you can just run 2 of them into a t-flip flop. i always built 1 t flip flop for each.
    i learned something today xD

    @BeRamboGamingHQ Redstone only travels up to 15 blocks ... therefore if ur gate is bigger than that you have to modify it to fit a repeater to send a signal another 15 blocks

    Your BUD/flipflop mechanism is very compact. I've been using a timing circuit on mine and it's absurdly large.

    • @MischievousBastard
      @MischievousBastard 10 лет назад

      And now having built one of yours to test it I've gone and put in a redstone lamp on each side of the portcullis which is on when the buttons are active and off when they are locked. Easier to tell from the outside if the circuit is broken or simply locked.
