I went through the same thing when i did instant locs on myself two years ago. It took me two days to do. I thought that my locs came out when i first washed them! No one tells you that your hair gets frizzy and still goes through the budding stage, you dont skip all of the steps! But my hair did appear more like locs in comparison to others earlier on so i agree with that. It’s not the traditional loc journey but it’s still a journey in my eyes and i loved it.

@@bre7931 As i said, I did my instant locs in 2019. At the time, there wasn’t a lot of information about instant locs. Now, there’s more information about it. And of course i did my research since I did my instant locs on myself. But there was a lot of misconceptions about instant locs floating on youtube at the time saying you “skip locs steps” and it’s “unauthentic” so that’s why i said what i said.

I found a great loctician and she instant locs my hair in 45 mins she's quick fast and effective and my locs have been florishing 😇🙏💓💓💓💓 since instant locs didn't shrink much and I have 4c hair but to keep my locs from shrinking after I wash or wet them I put it in a ponytail until it dries and let it out and that keeps myself locs in a stretched state as a tip for ppl who may want to minimize shrinkage try it

So i ordered some hooks and went over my coils to instant loc them... Some of them are not as locked as they should be not sure what im doing wrong... But yeah they should change the name to "after hour locs" cause after hours and hours ⏳ you have locs.

Depending on how tight the hair is crocheted, some of the stiffness may never completely go away. Trust me, I did mine with no prior experience & over tightened some of them way too much. Now I know better & even went back & combed out & re did some(I did lose length of the locs though). Some I left alone cause I didn't want to lose length & they are still stiff to this day. Of course the new growth helps them hang naturally eventually, but they are too compacted.

Do you feel as though your hair got more solid/denser over time even though they are “instant?” After my first wash, it was very puffy but it went back to normal size after a few days. I was scared that they detangled under the water because I could literally see my curls. I have a loose curl pattern and I think that’s why even though they are instant locs, they still feel very soft. My retwists don’t last long after I do them for this reason. Hey! This is a late reply I just visited this video, I also have instant locs and I am on my second set, I would say if you have any doubts or dislikes in regards to your grid , or number of locs I would say comb them out. Since they are a long term commitment, you should be happy and have them started in the most perfect and comfortable way, for you. the lumpiness you are referring too could be budding , which is unavoidable and a good thing since it’s a sign the loc is maturing , or maybe bunching , which i would suggest gently tugging your loc straight and palm rolling between your hands while they are wet to train them into shape, after I combed out my first set I made sure my second set was everything I wanted and now I am finally satisfied. I hope this helps and that you flourish on your journey! ❤🌴

all locs no matter how you start will need time to get dense. so they won't fully feel like a matured loc they'll only appear locd :)
