I picked one up just today! The 403A is the machine my Mother taught me basic sewing on back in 1972-3. I have the 500A and 503A, and they are both GREAT machines but they just weren't Mama's 403! Can't wait to get my hands on it and give it a good clean/polish and bring it back to practically new.
Slant shank... It is part of the Singer "Slant-O-Matic" series.. These were made between 1959 and 1961, and a good "Dressmaking" machine. These were never intended to be used in a "semi-industrial" manner.. The motor will burn out quickly.
