    I use silk wrap and brush on nail glue, seems to work perfectly for me. About 4 coats of nail glue, no need for gel or a light. Not to mention its easier and faster removing just the wrap and glue in acetone.. I know for a fact nail glue dissolves faster in acetone.

      Linda West-that's how i have been doing my nails for nearly 25 years. its always worked for me and its less damaging then other methods. I do the fill-ins the same way. I have never had a nail fungus or any other problems.

    I totally recommend the gel cure if your using the light less gel. I tried one nail with no gel cure and after 20 minutes it was still sticky and it never fully cured all the way as we I went and painted it with polish it got tacky again and I had to redo the whole nail over. If your just using resin or glue method which is a thinner mixture, you don't need the gel cure but it is totally fine to use it with that method if you have it kicking around. Just FYI if using resin or glue method apply more layers as again it's a thinner mixture.

    I have actually tried using uv gel or sculpting gel on a practice nail and it worked just fine..if you are using it to lengthen a nail then u need to have a set of pinchers or forceps to help shape the nail otherwise the tip will fan out funny..lol I hope this helps :)

    Yes you can do a fill, no silk needed...and if you use acetone free nail polish remover you can remove as much polish as you want..without any real damage to the resin...hope this helps..thanks for watching :)

    I just love your video. I'm trying to learn how to do these myself at home and I have researched it to death almost. I found everything you used expect the gel resin all I have been able to find is ASP resin.. Do you know to if this will work as long a I use the ASP light less gel after?

    • @IIIRuin
      @IIIRuin 9 лет назад +1

      I'm in the same boat as you, looking up all the info I can about wraps. If you're in the US everything is at Sally's. I couldn't get the ASP resin but found another brand on ebay. I also found the IBD Brush on gel resin on ebay. Have you seen Anna's Nail Art channel? She also does this the exact same way.

      +kelly terrell Just use any Cyanoacrylate glue. That means super glue will work as well, although there are many types of this glue you may want to choose one with a low viscosity (thicker). You can usually find this type of glue in 3 different viscosities. I don't recommend the brush on kind. I can do these nails without any trace of a seam. They look just like your natural nail. And, no. I don't do my nails. It's something I picked up years ago at Skiles University of Hair Design.

    • @lindavest5193
      @lindavest5193 7 лет назад +2

      kelly terrell I use brush on nail glue about 4 thin coats and it seems to do the job great for me. My natural nail tip is almost an inch and my nails are very thin. I only use the Swiss Silk Wrap and Kiss Brush on glue my nails are extremely strong and after I soak off my glue, my nail is thin like always but there is no damage. I also use a glue drying spray to help with the dry time.

    This was very helpful. I like to wear gel polish on my nails but have a question. My question is if I want to change the gel polish and soak it off with acetone will the silk come off as well? Do I need to redo the silk wraps every time? I just want to strengthen my natural nails and then add a gel color to them. Thank you!

    • @ItsMeCheryl1231
      @ItsMeCheryl1231 5 лет назад

      Yes Heidi, the acetone will take the silk wrap off also. If you don't want the wrap to come off, use only non-acetone remover and regular nail polish.

  • @IvyMUA
    @IvyMUA  11 лет назад

    Oh yes..you can use any type of polish you'd like..I actually did a pink French gel manicure after I did this video :)

  • @IvyMUA
    @IvyMUA  11 лет назад

    They feel a lot lighter than acrylics feel and definitely thinner...you can also use regular builder gel and a uv lamp if you don't want to use the lightness "gel" (resin)... I hope this helps...thanks for watching

  • @IvyMUA
    @IvyMUA  11 лет назад

    Yes you can..you can also do a foil wrap to help remove the nail in case you dont want to soak your nails.. :)

  • @shruffles35
    @shruffles35 10 лет назад

    Do the chemical gels damage and weaken the real nail underneath like acrylics do? Well done btw. I had this done once to only one finger nail for a wedding, and mine lasted until it grew out! I use gloves to clean, so maybe this helped.

  • @IvyMUA
    @IvyMUA  11 лет назад

    Also, if you don't like the way the resin (light-less gel) feels and cracks..try using the same technique but by using uv gel or sculpting gel (you have to cure it) for better hold...I hope this helps :)

  • @christineclemmer7310

    Ok so I finally got brave and tried it. Two unfortunate things happened which I hope you can help me with: I used the silk to extend my nails and I found the silk "sinking" and creating a sort of dip right after it extended off my natural nail once I applied the nail resin. Should I should use forms to avoid this? (out of characters - cont. in next post)

    DUDE!!! YOUR RING!!! Gorgeous! Love you vid. Watched it twice, went to Sally today, got home all excited to start and realized that I forgot the silk! Dern! I guess I'll have to make a second trip out. Question..... any reason not to trim the edges of the silk prior to placing it on the nail? Your nails look great (and I am green with envy of that beautiful emerald cut diamond ring)!

  • @IvyMUA
    @IvyMUA  11 лет назад

    Lol...Thank you :)...I don't see a reason why not to cut it to your liking...they sell the pre-cut silk wraps or the regular silk wrap sheets that you cut yourself...I used these to extend the length of my nail...but I have also used it to just strengthen my tips & to fix a chip or break..I've had to cut them to fit my needs...I hope this helps and I appreciate you watching...xoxo

      If you're using actual gel you have to use a lamp with it. I have used clear gel polish (the sensationail base/top coat) with a silk wrap, but not to extend the nail. I used it to strengthen my natural growing nails. Hope this helps.

    • @IvyMUA
      @IvyMUA  10 лет назад

  • @IvyMUA
    @IvyMUA  12 лет назад

    So far from doing them numerous times it comes out clear once I put polish on them..you can try a silk wrap over a glue on nail tip, for added strength..but I'd recommend using an actual sculpting gel or acrylic over that for longevity..if your nails are a little long you can just cut the wrap to fit the exact length, that can make it look more natural..I hope this helps..Thank you for watching :)

    • @IvyMUA
      @IvyMUA  10 лет назад +1

      It should definitely help you out with that..I have mostly used gel wraps to help with breaks in my nail.. I just cover the main area of the break up. I hope this helps answer your question.

  • @IvyMUA
    @IvyMUA  11 лет назад

    Sorry to see that you had a bad experience with the silk wraps...I had a similar experience with the craving of my nails..but I thought it was just my nail chemistry...when I did it just to add strength to my regular length nails, it lasted longer (8days)...if you try again..try using nail forms and making sure that the stress line of your nail has a thicker coat (build on it) and when you file it & shape it, it shouldn't look so bad...cont...

    Found this to be helpful. I used nail filler on my gel silk wraps because using the silk and gel extentions alone....they all broke off. Should I apply more gel coats so I won't have to use the filler? ??

    • @shannonhaskell451
      @shannonhaskell451 10 лет назад +1

      Hello, I wanted to try and help. I feel like filler powder is finer acrylic, normally 3 coats of gel is enough for a strong nail. I believe if you use at least 3 coats you should't have to use the powder. I have also learned that if you put an additional piece of silk horizontal across the tip and cut to size before applying gel it helps to give the extension more strength. After doing this I still use 3 coats. I hope this helps .

    Hey! Perhaps a stupid question, but I am asking because the silk wrap seems really thin and fragile; Can I use an electronic manicure machine instead of manually buffing and smoothing my nails?

    • @mandapanda737
      @mandapanda737 7 лет назад +1

      C.D S. I wouldn't recommend it. They don't need major filing. Light buffing just to remove any imperfections from the top and very minimal filing to shape them. An electric filing system would chew them to shreds.

    I went to Sally's to get the various supplies for wrapping my nails but had trouble getting this gel primer. I was given something called a nail uv gel builder by IBD. Is that the same thing and do I have to use that lamp?

    • @IvyMUA
      @IvyMUA  9 лет назад

      Yes it looks like you need a uv lamp to cure that product. If itit comes in a pot more likely they gave you builder gel, which is used with forms to create a thicker nail..it should work great for making your nails thicker and can use it as an overlay or to extend your nails by either using forms or nail extenders

    • @btdfw

      +Tamala Dunbar Really all you need to do is lightly sand your natural nail. Kick up some dust and take the sheen off of it. Some like to put a coating of the gel on at that point. It's said to have a better adherence. I personally don'y know because I've never had my nails done, lol. But I have done these for a few friends and the results were fantastic.

    Thanks for posting this. I've tried it with some success but in a day or 2 the same thing happens that always happens to me with gel. Altho the gel doesn't really lift, it develops white patches around the edges and cuticle that sort of spoil the appearance. Any idea why that might happen, or what to do about it? Thanks...

    • @btdfw
      @btdfw 8 лет назад

      +nailnut 1 About all you can do is paint it. You may want to try a thinner Cyanoacrylate glue and use a couple more coats instead of whatever you are using now. Hope that helps.

    • @nailnut1511
      @nailnut1511 8 лет назад

      Hi Bryan, thanks for the response. In retrospect I've come to believe the white patches do indicate lifting. Although I think I've gotten the application technique down pretty well, I still have terrible problems with lifting, especially at the cuticle area. The person doing the demonstration said we could use any primer,and I always use a lot of primer,but it doesn't seem to help. I've been unable to find the kind of primer mentioned in the video. You mentioned trying a thinner glue - any suggestions? Thanks...

    • @btdfw
      @btdfw 8 лет назад

      nailnut 1 You may try Bob Smith 103 Insta-Cure 2oz Super Thin and see what results you get. Are you dusting the nail really well before application? I sometimes use the dust combined with the glue to form a strong bond. You'll need several coats.

    • @nailnut1511
      @nailnut1511 8 лет назад

    The other thing that happened was: The few that looked o.k., actually cracked and broke (but didn't fall off b/c of the silk), so the edges were bent and floppy! I used 4 coats! I fixed them with another couple of coats but found them too thick and unnatural looking. Help? p.s. I also had lifting on the edges of the nail bed even though I used two coats of "No Lift Nails Primer".

      They lasted me over a week..until I popped them off..it's been a while since I've done them this way but it was a good technique.

      ok good to know. I just purchased all the needed items but I was just a bit concerned if they would wash off with continuous hand washing and stuff like that. thanks!

      +stillettopumps86 oh no if you prep the nails and don't put product on your cuticles, it should last you a bit..this is the perfect technique to fix a broken nail as well..and you can use real sculpting gel as well..best of luck

      Not at all..unless you are using actual gel..this gel is actually a resin.

    It would be nice if she kept her finger visible instead of out of the camera’s range half the time.
