The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.
Thank you for remembering Elizabeth. Her story, her visual, is a sad reminder to all who come by, of how unjust society can be, to pronounce such harsh judgement on one so young. I choose to believe that her soul rests peacefully, guiltless and secure, that no mortal can touch her spirit. I will leave a yellow rose when I visit her grave. 💛
i have died. she is ok
Amen
she was no witch, just a wealthy woman who wanted peace in her life!
Ron's weekly history lessons are a must see on a Sunday night. He never disappoints, looking forward to a great show.
Its such a treat. So interesting to find there are other history and cemetery fans. And the videos are so well paced.
SUCH A SAD 😔 😟 🙁 😥 😞 😿 STORY. I CHOOSE TO BELIEVE THAT SHE WAS A GOOD WOMAN WHO LOVED HER FAMILY 👪 ❤ 💕 AND DIED WAY TOO 💔 SOON, LEAVING BEHIND HER 💔 PARENTS, HUSBAND AND CHILDREN.
Love 💕 them best historical lessons of all time!!!
There were a lot of women who were killed and wrongfully so as witches in Salem. The fact that the rumors happened long after her death means nothing. I don’t thinks she was a witch at all.
Poor Elizabeth. She was not a witch, she simply died young, as many did then. The rumors of her were begun in more recent times by mostly social media. Her husband did remarry and had one other child, a daughter, that he lost at age 18 from a sudden illness in 1913 while she was away at school. No matter your station in life back then, medical science did not have the means to save everyone. He and Elizabeth's only child, John Jr., did survive to adulthood and managed the father's lumber business, one of many businesses the father owned and ran. No one is buried with Elizabeth because John Sr. wished to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery, as he was a retired Major. His second wife and young daughter are buried there with him. John Jr. is buried in his own family plot in Florida.
I find it strange that his 2nd wife was buried with him and not Elizabeth too. Being that all the gravestone are facing to the east and she was buried to the West her husband may have thought she was a witch. People's traditions about witches were so different then.
It's all very interesting but strange to us in our time. We will never really know, but it is fun to find out what others think about it.
Waited all week for this in the UK. Absolutely love all this history portrayed so respectfully
Xx
She is no witch just a young woman who died young.Shame on the people who dug her grave they knew to face her east.
Apparently, it was not a given to be buried facing east. There are many graves in that same cemetery that do not face east. It just happened that way and was not deliberate.
Nietzsche wrote that, although the judges of witches and the witches themselves believed they were guilty, they were not. A lesson.
I was told, that it doesn't matter about the stone...It's the way you are put in the grave. I don't think it matters to the Lord, just what type of life you lived. Thanks Ron,for bring us along to a beautiful cemetery. take care.
I agree but her husband must have been devastated when she passed. He was able to afford an elaborate tomb, which was prolly his way to express his love. His final act of endearment to his beloved.
@@lesliewyatt4188 totally agree it matters to the husband it was the last thing he could do for his wife.
Nancy, I think it does matter to the Lord how you live. It determines where you spend eternity that split second when you leave this earth.
Looks like Elizabeth was loved by the lovely burial. And it’s starting to look like Ron’s making movies not videos now. Nice camera and music work! RIP Elizabeth. 🌹
Another wonderful story Ron!! how haunting is Elizabeth's death and final resting place!! the Edgar Allan Poe poem on her headstone is chilling to say the least ...... : )
I'm disabled. Watch lots of videos because I hate TV. I really enjoy watching your videos, taking me places that I would love to go
Beautiful cemetery! No witch, she has a cross on her monument.
Ever hear of a wolf in sheep’s clothing?
This cemetery is very fascinating. Very unique headstones. Great story on Elizabeth. I was wondering if she was buried the opposite way to watch over the others. Take care Ron.
I wonder if the stone masons or whoever built that monument did not just screw up and face it the wrong way. Maybe the husband was grieving and simply did not notice. The answer is lost to time.
Another great story from the great story teller of our time Ron...thanks for sharing this story of Elizabeth G...rip young lady..😇🙏. Sad she died so young with heart ❤️ problems 💔....nice monument of her grave but her husband or whoever built it for her ... beautiful cemetery Ron..where she is buried...take care and safe travels Ron 🙏🚗🥾🥾✈️🪦🪦⚰️⚰️........nice history lesson Ron....thanks...
Superstitions and jealously. How cruel people can be. May she rest in peace.❤🙏🌻
I just purchased a plot for a green funeral for myself. It's in a old cemetery called Brooksville Cemetery, in Florida and has civil war vets. The the very 1st person to be buried there was a woman on a horse and carriage who was killed by Indians. I love this cemetery and it looks quite a bit like this one only darker and with much more Spanish moss. In Oct. there are free tours and I can't wait. There is an older women who volunteers and know so much about the people buried there. Thanks Ron.
@@christopherball7937 I have been there but didn't see the cemetery. I will be sure to look for it.
Pat i am in Spring Hill. Would love to know how to find out about the tour.
At the top of her stone I see the letters “ihs” which is the monogram meaning Christ. I’m guessing the family was Christian or that would not be written. Perhaps she read Poe and he was a favorite of hers so her husband remembered her with that poem. And perhaps as people usually do, someone assumed and came up with a story to “explain” a why. And as we know stories always grow with time and retelling. Love your program Ron and the work that you do. Always look forward to the next.
Hi Ron another great story well told Ron I've seen headstones facing west in catholic cemeteries but it's when they put the coffin in the person in the coffin is facing east So the foot of the coffin is by the headstone Maybe they wanted this headstone to be different 🍀🍀
Loved this story of my namesake "Elizabeth" I think she was beautiful and her husband knew it thus built her what would be a memorable monument to the woman, wife he so loved. Nonsense about witches. I could walk all day at this cemetery interesting and peaceful. RIP Elizabeth Budd Graham. Happy week Ron and gang from Elizabeth in Texas.
The music at the end is captivating! What is it? What a captivating story overall. I think she may have had jealous people around her when she was alive and newly married. Because don’t we all “bewitch” others anyway? If we are attracted to someone we put our best forward and maybe even turn it up a notch. Something magnetic flows between 2 people who are attracted to each other. It could seem bewitching.
all music is always down in the description box, we producers pay for copyright usage...expensive.
I just watched this video Ron. What a great story. I'm visiting my family in the Tampa Bay area. What beautiful old headstones that cemetery has. I could see from your walk that cemetery has a lot of history. I'm a Poe fan myself just learned another piece of history. Thanks again Ron for a wonderful story through a piece of Florida's history. RIP Elizabeth Graham.
Always, I enjoy history that you share. Immed I thought of Twain's quote "A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." I've been overwhelmed since Mama passed. Estate affairs & they haven't completed her epitaph .. smh. Anyway..Wow! It's disturbing how cruel ppl start a rumor w/o any foundation (decades later). To make it worse, she is not here to defend herself. Young, beloved Elizabeth, Mother, Daughter, Wife, etc. was so so young. Too young to die. If she was a witch, indeed.. she wld've had the power to live longer I wld thk. Afterall, true witches do not die at such a young age.. RIP Elizabeth. Ron, I hope you & eryone had a blessed weekend.
That is quite a beautiful Cemetary Ron! And what a beautiful monument to this lovely young woman!
So sad 😞 people wanted to tarnish her name after she was gone! Her husband loved her very much and was devastated when she died! No witchcraft at all! Crazy people! 😠 😡
Thanks Ron for another amazing video! Blessings to you and your family! 🙏 💕
Very interesting story Ron. I wonder who put the framed photo of her there?Surly that hasn’t been there since she was buried. Good job on narrating this sad story. 🥀
A great episode Ron, what a picturesque place! Full of history. I don't think Elizabeth was a witch, just sounds like gossip to me. Just a young lady who was taken too soon.💔 I'm a fan of Poe so I really loved the inscription, adds to the mystery of the story. Another great segment Ron!!💙 thank you for telling us her story.
I disagree about cleaning headstones in certain instances. One, for military veterans. Two, for those headstones that are becoming unreadable due to destruction from the molds/lichen/mosses that are eating away the minerals of the stone. Cleaning must be done in a minimal, archival way and not done with household cleaners or abrasive plastic brushes used to clean bathrooms. The initial stones you showed look like they have been cleaned, but only over the date and the letters of their names with a mild surfactant.
Also some of the stones had been broken and fixed. I understand why he believes that but I also think it shows that someone still cares etc. if they have not been correctly cleaned they could not be read and enjoyed. It would all be green and black
@@TRIChuckles I recently cleaned all of my family’s headstones with D/2 because the moss/mold was starting to destroy the oldest of my relatives’ headstones. I don’t regret it. It’s an homage to my family. While I understand the “patina”, I don’t like the idea of their identities being lost to erosion in 25-50 yrs. If they aren’t cleaned correctly, it will also accelerate the erosion of marble headstones. They should be cleaned with a soft nylon brush or natural bristle brushes, wooden skewers, and pliable/flexible plastic putty knives. No one should ever use bleach or household soaps or cleaners. Only use orvus/sodium lauryl sulfate or D/2 Biological Solution on them. Even then, it should be done sparingly.
@@kitterzy thank you for the advice. I knew there was a correct way to do no damage but was not certain. I do understand the folks wanting to let be.
But as an amateur genealogist I always felt my ancestors would appreciate that they have not been forgotten. I have never found anything but peace in older cemeteries. And where I live if you don't take care they are slowly destroyed if by nothing else... nature.
Ron, stay there and do some more stories! That place looks so interesting. Don’t leave yet! Pitch a tent if you have to, but stay and give us a longer tour.
ha, for sure!
agree!
My favorite historian is back again with another amazing story❤🙏thanks so much you are dearly appreciated
Ron you always have a way of bringing these people to life. This is indeed a beautiful cemetery.
It is not for any of us to judge this poor woman who was so very young. We have all sinned and fallen short. It would be interesting to know why the townspeople thought she had bewitched her husband but even that would be here say from the towns people. Sadly, people being who they are can always find something to fault in others.
Thank you Ron for another beautiful story in a beautiful cemetery. God bless you as you go on to find other bits of history to bring to us.
If the story is true I would think the towns people made life difficult for her being that she was the center gossip. I can't Imagine living in a small town people thinking I wasn't good enough to marry a rich man so I must be a witch. I can imagine they shunned her. If she had to go to town for some reason I'm sure she got strange looks and whispering.
Interesting...Thankyou for your videos...something peacefully solice and beautiful about those old mysterious cemeteries...the old world charm and superstition that goes along with it...
Rest in peace Elizabeth & everyone. I did some research & found out she past away from heart disease. Also the poem was "A Paean" the name "Lenore" was not added until 1843 by someone else. My opinion if memory serves me right the poem was based on how Edger Allen Poe was coping with the death of his wife Lenore who pasted away from TB I believe. Mr. Poe also had TB. Stay safe Sir & everyone. Love reading Mr. Poe's works, "Quote The Raven Never More" also rest in peace Mr. & Mrs Poe.
Yes, she passed away.
I believe the correct line is: Quoth, the Raven, nevermore.
Elisabeth was just a young woman who died so young. I was very excited about this episode I love it and how you told this story.❤❤❤
Interesting story, and i love the look of the grave stones, it would definitely be criminal to try and clean them.
It is only a short excerpt of the whole poem by Poe, and to my mind, the entire poem implies that the deceased (Lenore) has ascended to be with God in Heaven. It's a beautiful poem and should be read in its entirety (at least in my humble opinion). I suspect the words 'Doubly Dead' meant that not only did she die, but far too early as well. Thank you for a fascinating story Ron. What a stunning Cemetery.
There is a cemetery where my grandmother used to live and all the tombstones are facing west except for a very few. So I don’t really know if it means anything. Plus whoever built it may have wanted it to stick out because that plot is very noticeable. Great vid as always Ron. You do an outstanding job!
Hey Ron and Crew love watching your walks in lovely peaceful cemetery and how well they are looked after in USA …l watched another video about Historic Sweet Olive Cemetery in Baton Rouge Louisiana by Urban Explorations the cemetery was a disgrace and very upsetting to see graves open and cracks exposed coffins and grass and weeds extremely high….then l thought of you your a man that gets good things done…maybe if you want a new project take a look in this…no souls resting in peace there 🙏
Beautiful cemetery and story Ron. You always manage to tell it so well. ❤️🇦🇺
What a fabulous way to end my day, Ron!! I just love this so much!! Thank you for the wonderful way you always comfort me and all of the Faces of the Forgotten !! You matter so much to me and so many others
Was not disappointed!!! Excellent job, Ron!
I'm so grateful to be born in this century where attitudes have changed rip to the young woman💜
What a beautiful cemetery!! Thank you for doing these videos and all the work you put into them!!
I've visited Bessie's grave a few times years ago when I was attending FSU there in Tallahassee. It's a beautiful old cemetery! Thanks for sharing Bessie's story.
I wish these episodes were longer, there's so much to see in this place 🥰 I'm sad a lot of people died so young back in the day. 😔🥰
Very educational Ron,whether she was a witch or not we may never know,I’d rather just hope she is resting peacefully with her family.
Thank you once again for this tour ,take care ,stay safe and well fromballarat in Oz,👋👋👋👍🙏🇦🇺
St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Rayne, Louisiana is a Christian cemetery with a bizarre element. All of the graves at St. Joseph’s face North-South, the opposite direction to what traditional cemetery plots are placed. It is believed that St. Joseph’s is the only cemetery in the United States whose graves face the wrong way, earning it the nickname “Wrong Way Cemetery.”. This is my hometown. If I'm not mistaken it's in the Guinness book of world records. 🤗
But, if the legend didn't start until decades after she was buried, then the whole witch rumor would not have come into play when her stone was placed. More likely, the rumors started after someone noticed that her stone was facing west. Her husband might have had a reason for placing it that way, or it could have simply been a mistake. Once engraved, those monolithic monuments cannot simply be picked up and turned around, especially in that day and age. A beautiful tour nonetheless Ron, a pleasure, as always.
I,m looking forward to seeing this Ron but as you know different times 🙄 bugs me so much. So I'll have wait till tomorrow. 😒 Godbless you 🙏 takecare lot's of love. 💖🙏💐
Sounds so interesting. Can't wait to watch!
I believe she was a young woman who had a bad heart. I believe her and her husband were very much in love.
The cemetery is so beautiful thank you for showing this video
I'm from Upstate New York , and I 💖 old cemeteries with Different head stones , Nice to meet you !

Welcome to the gang!
Thanks Ron for sharing with us!!! Beautiful cemetery...
Hope you had a great time at the wedding!!👍🏻
Looking forward to watch this one evening
Mr Ron storyteller got good story tonight
His take us same beautiful cemetery and tell us the story
Looking forward to this one!
That cemetary is so beautiful. My daughter and I were chatting about cemeteries, cremation and funerals bc my mother is going into a senior living at 94. (My sisters and I are not having a very good time of communicating about it...) anyway I mentioned that cemeteries are such a waste when a person can be cremated. But sitting here watching this, it would rob those of us left behind of a place to go and we wouldn't see the history of ppl which I love seeing. Amazing place! The spanish moss in the trees, all of the trees, the birds singing, it's just a beautiful place.
I agree, it is definitely a beautiful cemetary. ☺️
I’d rather cremation. Recycling at it’s best.
I’m confused. In your telling of the story she had a wonderful story in the paper about her passing. Many people attended her service. Why would anyone think her a witch?
The rumor started long after she was buried. Because her headstone is facing west instead of east(like a good Christian) and Edgar A. Poe's poetry that was inscribed on her monument supposedly alludes to a witch.
correct, if listening, I outlined that the story / rumor started way after she died.
@@FacesoftheForgotten Do I get an A for listening? LOL
Such a beautiful cemetery! The grounds are so well kept and Elizabeths resting place is sensational! Thanks Ron! Your the best!
As always another great story . No one can tell them as good as you. Stay safe in your travels 🙏🙏
I dint believe she was a witch back in those days anything could qualify you as a witch. Such paranoia back then its crazy they assumed that after she passed. SIP Ms. Elizabeth
This is such a beautiful cemetery. Probably one of my favorites Ron has shared with us. Amazing how well preserved the tombstones are. Nature at its best too. Thx Ron 🕯
Found your channel last year and I love your videos. Thanks for the content 🙏
The stone behind and to the right when viewing looks as though there is a little girl resting her arms and head over a fence. Is it just me that sees that? I'm pretty sure that's the back of the stone. Also looks like a 2nd picture of a small child above her.
Where exactly?:O i'm interested.
Wow a white witch. Like Glenda the Good Witch in the Wizard of Oz!
This was one of your best videos. Honestly my favorite, I love the music that you played when reading the obituary. That combined with your voice, amazing
Man you are a Wikipedia, thank you very much 👍
It doesn't matter if the stone is facing east or west either is acceptable....the Christian tradition is the head of the deceased is placed at the west end of the grave so they can rise up to the east to meet Christ at resurrection....
I have always wondered why anyone thinks that a bunch of old bones are going to rise up out of the earth.
@@pegs1659 If that ever happens, it's going to create a huge mess of empty caskets no one wants to clean up. LOL
@@pegs1659 I'm just addressing Ron's confusion on the way tomb stones are placed....to each his own on their beliefs....
@@hauntedbearchild Well....If I understand Christian beliefs....it's not gonna matter since that is suppose to be the end of the world....
I think I would want to face west too, for the beautiful sunsets. Enjoyed this story…..thank you.
Very neat story. I love Edgar Allen Poe. I love these old cemetery’s.
I really hope you don't believe that about witches, I'm a wiccan witch. And I'm a very good person. Thank you. We just believe in other God's and Goddess. There is no devil in the craft. Only the good and bad in the heart of the witch. There cannot good without evil in the world to keep the balance. Blessed be. ..
Ron’s stories really draws you in! Almost time…
My great-grandfather was buried facing northeast because he was a special man. He would help heal people but he was deeply religious. He was also a carpenter and would build people coffins when they had no money to buy one. He helped build a few of the old buildings here in my hometown, like the Catholic church. He is the only one buried that way in the Hispanic cemetery here. Everyone else, even in the White folks cemetery on the other side of town is buried facing East. They bury them facing where the sun rises.
Great story Ron. It is strange that her grave is the only one facing west and that she had an Edgar Allen Poe poem on her grave. Maybe the story originated from her own descents. Maybe she loved Gothic tales that people loved back then. Maybe she was educated. People were scared of women who had any knowledge of plants or medicines or were educated so they called them witches. Love a good scary story.😱
Such a wonderful History lesson. Thank you Ron.
I don't believe she's a witch it's just a rumor.💐😔 Thanks for the video👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 I do appreciate it.🌻😊
A woman that died too young, Rest In Peace, onley a witch in the eyes of others nothing more. A great story again Ron thnx.
Cheers can’t wait! Be back
Beautiful cemetery. So many different memorials. Great story.
Another great story told fantastically by Ron
Just a quick note from the coalfields of VA to let you know how much we appreciate you and what you do and kindness you show. We really enjoy your stories and all the information of the dead and the respect you give with your heartfelt thoughts and the time you put into each episodes. I know your team does a lot and I’m sure the families appreciate every thing you guys do! God bless!
No way would I ever walk around that cemetery by myself.👻
Ron if you see this, I thoroughly enjoy your videos and I love history and sadly, I love the stories and I enjoy the time and energy that you put into the videos. Thank you sir and god bless
Thank you for sharing this story and remembering Elizabeth! That cemetery is quite the place! Have a nice week!!
How does one become "Doubled Dead?". Philadelphia USA
You have the best storytelling voice! Love all the back story and history in every episode too.
Makes you wonder if her husband loved her as much as he did and she had her children then why are they not with her?
Nothing beats a good old witch story
I always hated history in school. But the way you tell it is so interesting. Thank-you.
Loved this one, Ron! What a fascinating cemetery ❤️
I think it's right to clean the headstones if they're not readable anymore.
Some of them looked like the name part had been cleaned.
I have a question raised by viewing this video. I did a little research and could not find an answer. Where are the rest of her family interred? Her husband ( did he remarry?) Her two children. Her parents. Are they in the same vicinity as her grave? Her plot is so large and yet she seems to be alone.
That's a good question.
Great, interesting and fascinating story about Elizabeth Budd Graham,
The grave of Elizabeth Graham: 30°26'32.65"N 84°17'9.18"W
Great episode Ron. What an amazing cemetery. LOVE the headstones! That one headstone (Elizabeth Simpson Brown wife of Thomas Brown) had a death date of 1818. So the cemetery may have been established in 1821 but apparently some that were buried prior to that. The plot for Elizabeth Budd Graham… Wow…that’s huge!
What an awesome Cemetery . I could wander in there for hours. The stones are so varied and really capture the imagination. Would be one heck of a spooky place after dark though . Interesting story for sure . If the monument tells anything she was well loved Keep Safe ❤Keep Well❤
Old obituaries are so well written compared to today’s. I also love how some older stones tell the person’s story.
I just love your stories and enjoy the history lessons, Ron! Fascinating!
Still not clear how she died twice.
Great show as always. Surprised you made no mention of Tallahassee's hilly elevation...rare for Florida outside interior Panhandle (Appalachians effect) and a section 0f the north central Peninsula from Zephyrhills to Ocala and some of Gainesville) Btw, November would have been the perfect time to visit Tallahassee with the humidity dropped to lower comfortable levels and crisp lows in the 40's with highs in upper 60's to lower 70's and even fall color....something rarely seen in South Fl
.
Sorry I missed! Traveling Florida! Great video!!
That was quite the monument. Maybe she was just Pagan and followed natural occurances in nature, like seasons etc. So she faced her sunset.... Plus people were likely jealous that she managed to captivate a wealthy man. 🫤 Either way, a very cool story! Thank you Ron😺
