The thing about Giles Corey and the reason he wouldn't enter a plea is that, until he made a plea, they couldn't have a trial. No trial, no verdict. And in those days, if you were found guilty, the court stripped you of your property. By not entering a plea, on his death, his property passed to his heirs instead of the court.

Human beings have this inherent trait of terrible cruelty against each other, against innocent children, against defenseless animals and against nature. I can’t think of one positive thing that we have contributed to this planet. We are a true scourge on the earth. Over the ages we have never stopped being so cruel. For this reason we must be even more appreciative of the price paid for our sin. We don’t deserve that kind of love, but we nevertheless have it.

Things didn't turn out too well for her either . I’m surprised that some of these cemeteries allow some of these evils to be buried there.

Very eerie music in the beginning. I enjoyed the history of witches throughout different eras. This little cemetery was great to walk thru.

Ron regarding the last case of the warlock; whether the man was a witch or farmer it's plain disrespectful to s*** on a dead persons grave. Only GOD can judge not us.

King James v of Scotland (he was also James the 1st of England) was quit obsessed with witches. He wrote a book about how to identify a witch and escalated the English witch trials. Fun fact is that his four times great grandmother (Jacquett of Luxembourg) was put on trial for witchcraft but acquitted. Jacquett is my 19th great grandmother.

Seems like a bunch of interesting witch legends ALL over, however there was a lot of "discrimination" in early times against those that even practiced witchcraft, there are places to order true witchcraft supplies today.

Widdershins round the Kirk. "She passed the church again 3 times against the sun".. this superstition is an old one here in Scotland. No one will walk widdershins (anti-clockwise) round a kirk unless you want to call forth that which righteous folk feared. Great stories here, thank you Ron.

If I remember correctly, by staying silent to a charge you (essentially) agreed with the courts right to make a decision. And you didn't answer because you are innocent.
If agreed with the court, not challenging it's sovereignty you couldn't be charged. They would have had a tough time coming up with facts to convict. (Sir Thomas Moore & Henry the 8ths divorcing to marry Anne Boleyn))
THIS PART IS HUGE lies were made up but silence meant all his property could be inherited by his heirs. He was going to die BUT a heir could inherit. Otherwise, the crown seized all his properties.
That's why he kept quiet...protecting his kids

I think the poor man was just a farmer. It was probably easier to exploit the witchcraft theory on someone from another county.

Giles Corey refused to say anything because the law back then was if he didn't confess, they couldn't hang him, the only thing he would say was more weight. I did my college theses on witchcraft, another interesting place to visit is where The John Bell Witch, it's located at 430 Keysburg Rd, Adams, Tenn 37010

In England, those accused of witchcraft would never be buried on hallowed ground. They would be buried at forks in the road or on the boundary edge just outside the church. Back in the 1980s, my father was digging out an old well behind the village of Tincleton's churchyard (Dorset) when they unearthed a woman's skeletal remains. It is thought that she most likely was accused of witchcraft and hence was interned just outside the church's grounds.

Indeed, Ron, you have done it again! I just love how you include detailed back stories to your cemetery visits. There are a lot of people on RUclips that visit cemeteries and they are decent enough, but they don’t include the depth of details about the subjects that you do! Ok, I may be wrong about this, but I thought that until about the middle of the 20th century, suicides were not allowed to be buried in “hallowed “ ground; so how is it that an out and out male witch was still allowed to be buried in the cemetery? I find that very confusing. On another note, I’m New England, there was supposedly a young woman who was a vampire and her name was Nellie Vaughan!! This happened a bit before our male witch came into the world. There’s an interesting book I think you might enjoy, it’s called Food for the Dead by Michael Bell. It is nonfiction!

I was taught years ago by my grandfather that both foxes and raccoons will poo on rocks to mark their territory. Both animals are creatures of habit and to see them keep using the same spot for poo is typical behavior for them. They do this so other animals will notice their poos. I have seen this sort of thing in rural cemeteries myself. it is interesting that if this man was indeed a practitioner of witchcraft, that they allowed him to be buried inside the cemetery. In those days, typically the grave of such a person would be located outside the fence, because a Christian cemetery was considered to be hallowed ground, and nobody "unclean" was allowed to be buried inside. Great video, as always.
