- Hello!
Today we're going to talking all the different tablets that I've used throughout art school to being a self-employed illustrator. XP-Pen very kindly sent me their Innovator16 anniversary edition drawing tablet to review so I thought it would be fun to compare it to the tablets I currently use for my professional work. If you have any more questions about tablets, feel free to ask them below! Lots of love, Apple Cheeks.

I remember when I was like 10, my mom got paint tool sai for me, but I didn’t know that drawing tablets existed, I guess neither did she, so I had to draw with my mouse...I used the curved line tool lol I also remember watching speedpaints and since I didn’t know about drawing tablets, I just thought everyone was using a mouse. I was like “wtf?! How are their lines so smooth??!”
omg that's such a relatable thing xD
Same heree
SAME LMFAO
i didnt know i had to use a drawing tablet for paint tool sai- welp, time to not ask for anything so i can get a drawing tablet.
pfft amateurs
relax its a joke
Guess who’s going innovator 16 is coming tomorrow!!!! My first drawing tablet!!!! ❤️
Yay! I hope you like it :3
:0 good for you! I’m stuck stuck between choosing the Artist 15.6 Pro or the Innovator 16. qwq
@@rye3477 bro samee
How do you like it
@@rye3477 me too uwu they're so similar af, I've read hundreds of reviews, watched a million videos, I don't know why a 5% increase in color range warrants a $50 increase huhuhu, I'm planning to buy on my birthday next week and I'm still torn x.x I could buy csp pro with that extra $50, so why XP-PEN? T____T
me: never used a tablet, never wants a tablet, is satisfied with ipad
still me: watches the video because i love Tiffany :)
same here :DDD
do you know any cheap ipads to buy if i want to use apple pencil? i dont know where to start but i always see tiffany using hers!
Aww thank you :')
I believe the regular iPad and iPad air works! I'd check out some review videos on them :)
eckosama ipad 7th generation is great for beginners! ipad air 3 is also good, a bit more expensive though.
I've had my xp-pen for almost a year now and I can say that the nibs doesn't wear down as fast as the wacom. I use it pretty much everyday so, it is really nice not to change your nibs everytime !
That's good to know! thank you
Hello! What xp pen tablet do you use?
@@veniceyemaart The XP Pen 15.6 if I recall right :)
what's a nibs?
@@albeit736 It's the tip of the pen! :)
I used to have a Wacom tablet without a screen and I barely used it because it was so hard for me to draw on the tablet while looking at my computer! I've recently thought about getting a drawing tablet again, so this video was extremely helpful!
Exactly! Once the iPad and Apple Pencil came out, it seriously changed the game for drawing digitally ~
Same here. But I have used it a lot because of my studies. I have found out for myself that the screenless Wacom is great for photo editing and montage, but illustration is a nightmare for me. I dare to say it takes me probably 3 times the time I would actually need to draw and it's so tiring if you have to deliver the work in time. I hate it so much ahahah. I have just ordered this one and it is so cheap now. I am totally happy to work with it. it will very much improve my work flow. I was going to buy an i-pad but I couldn't wait any longer, it's really urgent. The new i-pad is out now and I also don't want to spend so much, especially now that I will get my lovely tablet and I have found it interesting when she said that the i-pad becomes hot while using it. I don't like that idea ahahahah.
I have also heard that the Apple pen is not as comfortable as the xp pen when drawing for several hours... that's also interesting.
the steven universe music backround is beautiful
It's by DemonGummies :3
your art style is so cute!! and the whole vibe is so calming to watch. I could listen to your voice for hours!
🤪 didn’t realise the double tap was what was turning my pencil to eraser!!! Thanks so much, feel like an absolute noob but drawing in procreate is about to get a lot less frustrating
There's lots of tutorials online for shortcuts, really makes a difference :3
This is the definition of cuteness, aesthetic and really useful info! tysm and love u ! 💗
hehe
I started this year with digital art and I bought the Wacom One, the simplest tablet they have and I couldn't be happier, I think that if I ever have to do this professionally I'd still choose a small tablet with no screen, I just love how simple it is and I actually like drawing looking at the computer screen, I think this makes me a complete weirdo but that's okay hahahaha and I think I'm gonna turn the buttons off as well, they annoy me so much and I never use them!! Also the pen that comes with the One by Wacom is so light, lighter than a mechanical pencil which was so weird at first, but it's very comfortable!!
It really is whatever makes you the most comfortable! If it works for you then definitely continue to use it~ ☀️
@@apple.cheeks yes!! It's so nice to see how different we all prefer to work 🥺
We are the same :( I bought an ipad and apple pencil but I am not comfortable drawing with it. I just prefer the screenless tablet for drawing :(
@@zenmenoza2366 oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that 🥺 I hope you can find another use for it or maybe try it again in the future ;-;
I’m using that one too, it’s really nice as of right now, but personally I would be more comfortable with a screen tablet, buts it’s still cool
Your uploads are always a great timing for me as it always falls on Sunday evening ready to be watched on Monday (today). Good fixer upper for a blue filled Monday 💛 Thank youu
Have a good day :)
Researching for my 14yo aspiring artist daughter. Thanks for the intro. She has a MacBook so the Innovator 16 may be an option for her. Love how you did the stripes on the dress multiple times - I see the appeal! 👌🏼
i just watchrd your video and it helped me to decide to buy an innovator 16! im really excited! :) thanks for this video, it was really informative! and i love your art! :)
this was a very helpful review, thank you!
I love that you still have your old tablets! 😂❤️ “Maybe I should sell it”
LOL I never had a reason to sell it till now xD
Never seen a video of yours before. This was informative and funny and chill. Thanks.
I'm so glad I stumbled across this video omg thank you so much
I've heard that some tablets don't work with the new macbook pros and I was so worried to buy one
Thank you so much!
Art students who are having online semesters thank u❤️
Good luck with school !!
That's meee
More artists should watch your video~!!! Clear thoughts and communication. Actual tested out products with responsible feedbacks. Keep it up Tiffany! Sending best wishes from China ;)
First thing I noticed- NO GLASSES!! you look so pretty!
Thank you for this review!! I've been contemplating for the longest time if I should move on from my 8 year old Bamboo Wacom tablet xD
I've been stuck between the ipad pro for it's portability vs an actual screen tablet that can run the programs i'm used to. This review helped me decide a lot! Thank you!
Do I look really different? 😂😂
Getting this soon myself! And the second USB I believe is for more power, with just one in it won't get quite as bright!
Ohh my brother is pretty interested in getting a tablet like this and he was thinking to get the Cintiq. I’m gonna send this to him as an option.
Love your videos! And this painting is so cute 💕
Thank you!!
this is so helpful! thanks!! 💕✨
I could watch you draw for hours
Thanks for the video Tiffany!! The multiple cable thing is something that you'll find in all the Pen display tablets. So unfortunately you can't run away from that. Except I think the Wacom one and Huion Kamvas 13 have the option of using a signal USB c port cable to transmit power and data, but the ability to do that dependscon the power of your laptop. If the tablet starts to lag you might have switch from the USB C cable to an HDMI/display port and regular USB port cable with the wall adaptater. That might also give your computer fans a rest. I have the same worry that doing mutiple things is killing my laptop. So I sometimes use my iPad to stream movies and watch videos, then leaving my laptop dedicated to work.
Ah thanks for letting me know! I knew it was too good to be true to have less cables hahaha.. I do the same with the iPad thing now too, I only keep photoshop open on my laptop when I use the tablet :3
I definitely relate with your feelings toward your wacom intuos, I never could get used to the hand eye coordination on that thing, I started to get hand cramps every time I tried to use it because how stressful I held the stylus pen while using it. I'm considering picking up a screen tablets to pick art up again as a hobby and I've been looking through reviews of different models, hence why I landed on this video. lol
the other usb (red one) is meant to be used with the wall plug adapter, so it gives proper energy, if you only connect it to the pc it will work but the brigthness gonna be reduced quite a lot
Great review and I like your quirky humor, will be getting mine come Tuesday and can't wait to get started as it's my first display tablet. (Not a fan of non-display tablets even though they're better for your health, but we're artists so do we really care lol?)
I was waiting for your vlog but then I saw this video I decided not to watch it but still I watched it because I love your videos
LOL
Anyone else use their finger for drawing digitally?😪
I finished filming my second digital art video ever today so I'm excited to watch 😆 love ur channel ✨
You're amazingly talented to be able to do that 🥺☀️
Mi plss
I draw digitally too lolz
I'm too poor to afford drawing tablets
the fact that i went from finger to mouse i-
I still have a wacom bamboo fun and still work .. Even today is pretty stylish with the blue glow 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Now i use mainly a cintiq and a old Intuos 5 but i try some tablets made by these alternative brands too and they are very good . I don't understand why so many people are against them . If you don't use linux you don't need 4k resolution or the extra features of the cintiq pro line they are totally fine to use for professional artworks too . I think in the future all these devices will became obsolete . Even today with the Ipad , mobile studio pro and all the 2 in 1 in the market buying a standard tablet or a cintiq it's not so smart especially if you need only to do 2d illustrations . Right now they are still needed for video editing , photo-editing , animation , 3d art and other heavy weight jobs because all these mobile devices are still not powerful enough .
your art style is so cute
I see a Cheyenne Barton Sophie pin. I have one as well, on my backpack. :3 I adore the drawing you did. I've used a Wacom Intuos Draw and I hate how small it is, and that disconnect between having what I draw show up on my computer screen rather than where my hand draws, and since the summers I've had it, the drawing space has warped along the edges and lifted. For a tablet that's less than $100AUD though it lasted well and was great for just getting the job done. The pen wore down easily, the surface is scratched but it still works and from time to time I still use it. I have a 2019 iPad Air 10.5" with Apple Pencil and Procreate now and while I love the interface and how gosh darn easy and nice it is to use, the only real massive downside for me is that it's not compatible with Adobe and Windows like how the Wacom allows me to do. But I do just fine between the two devices and the Intuos Draw is an okay starter for any beginner of digital art, graphic design and illustration.
Agreed :)
I totally vibed with the Steven Universe background music!
Hahaha 🌻🌻
my dream is to become an illustrator but my parents didnt like the idea of me not having a stable job, so now i am looking to learn the art online, this video was super helpful ♡^^
Online is definitely the best place to learn other skills! ☀️
I believe illustrators have a lot of opportunities in todays world as so manyyy people need different designs for their projects, be it youtube or companies, creating brands etc.
Nothing is stable, something that has become apparent during the covid event, a lot of people getting laid off. I believe the people who have their own online business (let's say illustrators :D) have it more stable now.
Thanks for this super comprehensive review! Am shopping around for a display/drawing tablet and your vid really helps! I've a question … I saw on another YT review of XP-Pen Artist Pro 16 (I think this came after the version that you have), and a great dismay was the wobbly stroke the pen produces (!!). Do you face wobbly pen strokes sometimes from Innovator 16? I don't think this version is around anymore :(
This is really informative!! I got CS paint recently cause of a sale but I barely use it cause I have an Ipad.... I have a pen tablet but the size is so small compared to my laptop that it is hard to work with (probable just me...;-;) I will probably get a larger screened tablet in the future... hopefully.... Also the artwork in this video is really cute!!
Thank you!
Wow. I really want to have innovator 16.
The extra plug makes the screen brighter! If you only use the computer power, it's a bit more dim. Also I recommend no touch because having touch was annoying when I used the wacom companion haha
I was so close to getting an Innovator 16 but I opted for the XP-Pen Deco Pro, less cords and I want to look up at my monitor, not down, trying to fix my posture.
I had a Bamboo Fun too. Hand crampy really. Best for quick notes and signatures more than drawing probably. (Still have it in put away in a box after upgrading)
After that was a 1060 Ugee and now my main is XP-Pen 15.6 Pro.
I love the Steven universe music in the background 🥺 I miss that show
Is that Steven Universe music?
I use one of the small Wacom tablets (used to be Bamboo, but that one died and I got a new one, not sure what it’s called now) as a mouse substitute as I can’t use a mouse/track pad for a long period of time as I’ll get RSI, but I have never really used it for drawing, I use my iPad for that (although I mostly do traditional art). I’ve seen the xppen around and I’d love to try it out, it looks really good. Thanks for the useful video! Love that you were recording in your bathroom lol, i was recording a track for my choir in my car the other day (as I’m on holiday and was feeling too self-conscious anywhere else lol)
(yes it is hehe)
I'm glad you found the video helpful! I really need to find a better place to record xD
THANKS FOR THE INFO. GOD BLESS.
Hey I have a question, I have a StarG640S and I use it with my phone. I often plug and unplug the tablet to store it somewhere, so do you think that is bad for the tablet? Should I just keep the USB plug in and store it just like that.... I scared that if I keep doing that the USB hole(don't know its name) would get too loose overtime.....
the fact that you have Steven Universe song in this video makes me so happy
Hi, would totally appreciate your response on this one. So, ive been buying xp pen products lately and am very very keen on the pen pressure. I noticed that most of the xp pen products ive used esp compared to wacom ones has pen sensitivity issues where it doesnt register properly on very mild strokes.
One easy trick i use to determine if the pen pressure is bad is i just hold the pen to its back end and just drag it all over the screen surface without any real intended pressure and just let gravity make the nib touch the surface and do random lateral movements with it.
With that, i notice the strokes i do doesnt register to the canvas im drawing on, compared to wacom tablets. Question, do you experience that kind of dilemma on your innovator 16 tablet? Thank you
I’ve been in the market for a tablet! This is perfect! Thank you!
🌻🌻🌻
I've tried a few tablets but still go back to my iPad, I enjoy the Apple Pencil double-tap function~ I changed it so it zooms in! The eraser did annoy me xD
Yeah! It's overall just very user friendly :)
That's actually the first generation Intuos Pro you're holding. It was basically a refreshed Intuos 5 with tactile buttons and an improved usb connection, but I think everything else was the same. I can't believe the surface of yours is still so clean and matted looking. Mine is scratched and all the tooth has been worn out leaving a shiny finish on most of it. For years, I've been alternating between the Intuos, Cintiq 16, and iPad pro. I think it's finally time to give the Intuos a break and just focus on the Cintiq and iPad.
13:04
what drawing tablet and software did you use?
Nice XP-Pen drawing tablet
This was so helpful, I wish I saw this before I bought a small Intuos tablet. But super informative!
Maybe one day you can sell it and save up for one with a screen! I do think that Wacom tablets are really expensive compared to other brands ..
apple.cheeks thank you so much for the advice!
15:10 What's that brush that you used to paint her hair? i've been looking for a brush like that for photoshop but i can't find one!!! :( please
it's a pencil one by Kyle brushes, if you have a creative cloud subscription its a free brush pack
Love the little note "don't die" lmao
love the kpop psycho red velvet background music, tablet looks awesome

Just bought my first one :) a xp pen artist pro 22 R :)
hi there. hows the zooming on the innovator 16? i have a 27in iMac 5K for Illustrator/Animate/AfterEffects - and a pc laptop for 3D stuff. does the zooming in and out annoy, or is it easy to get used to? thanks
I think I got fairly used to it pretty fast, it's just a standard zoom 💪
Omgod who are you? what have you done to Tiffany?. Where the glasses?
THIS IS THE BEST COMMENT
Lol look good without specs. Using contact lens?
@@TheVictorzai yup!
Between XP-Pen Innovator 16 and XP-Pen Artist 15.6 Pro, which one is better than the other ?
Weirdly I’ve always preferred tablets without screens. I think it’s probably because I have so much anxiety about put pen to paper and the disconnect helps alleviate that… that or my brain adapted to suit my budget 😅
I don't know anything about the drawing tablets but I think the other usb is prob for charging the tablet(if it works on battery) or for power when you don't want it to use your laptop/desktop's power while using it.
Hey I have veikk A15 but my dad said he will give me any drawing tab so I think which one should I go for xp pen 16 or iPad becoz it's difficult to purchase procreate for me I think so Please help becoz I can't buy procreate atleast now but My laptop can't support photoshop and I use sai and krita krita more becoz sai is not good and krita is free and so am confused please help🙏
I didn’t know what was activating the eraser all the time, and now I do! Thank you! Will deactivate that now. I accidentally switch to the eraser all the time and it drives me nuts!
Same, I hate those functions ;-;
Hi There: When you plug all the cords in - is that an extra dongle that works with Macbooks? Or did it come with the tablet?
I actually bought that separate because the Macbook doesn't come with USB ports
Hi, do you know if the Innovator 16 works well with Linux? I heard there's only a beta version for now :/
I love your channel btw !! You're so motivating 😌
Theres cable to connect it in... follow the colour for connectable..it show on the tablet
I'm going to be using Adobe illustrator... how long did it take you to learn and explore the functions on photoshop in order to refine it down to the main functions that suit you if that makes sence... I'm new to illustration software and am worried it'll be too complex for me to master?
I actually learned a lot about the programs during school, but I still google things to this day. I think if you watched some basic tutorials online, you'll catch on fast :)
so you can't use procreate in the xp pen?
This is great timing, I'm considering buying a Samsung tablet as I can't afford the iPad and I think I'll go through with it now !
What about the older ipads that are refurbished?
I actually did look up this with my dad yesterday, we managed to find a iPad 6 in my price range !
maybe this is more on the technical side of things but how is the color output on the tablet? Is it accurate compared to your iPad/laptop or a printed out version of your drawing? And does the pen support pen tilting? You did a great job on your review! Thank you!
I tried to play around with the color settings a bit, I do feel like it's a tiny bit of a warmer tone than my MacBook, but it's not off by too much! I believe you can calibrate it even more. Also it does support pen tilting!
great video!
Thank you
I use an XP-pen artist 22e pro and I use it as a second monitor when I don't use it as a drawing tablet. I really love it because of the texture. It's very comfortable to draw on. And for when I have to go somewhere and want to draw on the go, I use my wacom intous art (small). But I don't mind using one that doesn't have a screen because I got used to it back in the day when I didn't have a screen tablet. A bit of both :D
I feel like I still haven't gotten used to it! xD
@@apple.cheeks That's understandable tho! I spent alot of time to get used to it x) It's very weird in the beginning
any carrying cases u prefer
do you have any suggestions on a screen tablet that you can carry around with you, (say i wanna draw on my bed)? I still want it to be connected to my computer and not an ipad because I like my drawing programs on there. sorry im really bad at explaining,,
I don't know anything besides the iPad. There are apps where you can control your computer's screen on your ipad and people use that to draw with Photoshop and computer programs. Maybe look into that?
apple.cheeks okay! I will, and thanks for responding!! :)
Hi sorry for my bad English. Do you can tell me please what for a printer do you have?
printer?? I have a Epson 1430 Inkjet Printer
Omg I would love to buy it. I want a drawing tablet so bad😖
It's definitely more affordable than Wacom cintiqs!
Artstudio pro is a good program between ps and procreate
I really want to get this tablet cause I’ve wanted one since forever but it’s so expensive but my birthday is coming up.....
Do u still have ur xp pen innovator 16? how is it now?
I use iPad, but i would love to try once a drawing tablet, unfortunately my laptop cases even watching youtube :DDD
Woah! I have been searching for tablets this is pretty good! One question, if you just want to sketch digital is the IPad Pro good?
Yes if you're going to just make illustrations and sketches, the iPad Pro is wonderful for that! You can even check out the older Pros or Air of you're on a budget~
apple.cheeks thank you so much! Love ur vids! ❤️✨
I'm planning to buy ipad pro but I might buy the xp pen innovator for now... I'm very good with just the tablet but with display should be more natural to me.
Sounds good! Especially now since we can't really go out either, I think the tablet is a great~
I've been watching a ton of tablet reviews for the past few months to purchase my first ever graphics tablet when I can actually afford it. Ever since I started doing art digitally I have used a mouse, which hurts my wrist a lot, but it has allowed me to do art digitally tho.
Btw Which screen tablet do you recommend to a beginner on a budget?
Ouch, that sounds like it hurts your wrist a lot.. if you're aiming for affordability I do recommend checking out XP-Pen or Huion brands(I personally thing Wacom is too expensive). If you're aiming to get an iPad, you can check out the cheaper iPad options that are compatible with the apple pencil 1. I recommend buying refurbished from Apple!
@@apple.cheeks yep it really does 😕 .. and thanks !💕 I have some saving to do then 😅
I bought a Huion Kamvas 16 (bigger screen) and I regret it because I already had an iPad Pro 12.9. Having that pinch and zoom gesture is just so integral to my workflow now. If Mac OS ever supports touch input, I'll probably just use sidecar with my iPad
It really makes things so much more efficient for sure, thanks for sharing!
I have both an ipad and a display tablet, and my opinion is really the same as yours!! my only problem is that I have really sweaty hands so sometimes the ipad frustrates me for that reason bc even with a glove i have to clean the screen w alcohol and my hands every like half an hour bc otherwise the lines get wobbly which makes it impossible for me to keep drawing, but i bought a paperlike screen protector to see if it helps a bit or if the cause was the screen protector i have rn. idk if that's a problem that happens to more people.
Also loved the drawing your style is always so warm and pretty!!
I've given up on trying to find the perfect screen protector for the ipad hahah, I'm just gonna use what I got!
hey just checking out your comment,,, if i may asking, i wonder what display tablet are you using? as i understand, most of display tablet has more colour gamut compared to ipad (for example like xp pen innovator 16 has more colour gamut compare to ipad air 4),, but in your eyes, which one has a better colour? ipad or pen display? thank you in advance 🙏🙏🙏👍👍
@@mirsyadhikmatullah119 hi!! absolutely no problem,, i use a huion kamvas gt 191 (which i got for a really good price and am now on the third year of use and is still working perfectly) but i feel like the colors arent as clear as they are on my pc screen, so i check there simultaniously while i pick the colors,, and with the ipad when i see it on the ipad screen (i have the ipad pro of 2017) i see them perfectly clear but some colors afterwards look different on other screens so i'll have to go and change some things because i don't notice unless i send it to the computer or after i post the drawings, but still don't feel that as a major problem in any of them (i don't feel as if i can appreciate a big difference of colors between them that would be a dealbreaker for me at least but i'm also not too picky when it comes to colors) i hope this was helpful to you TT
Hey, do you have a name or a link for that skin or case for your Apple Pencil? I like the classic pencil vibes. More power 😊
It's from slickwraps!
Hey, I have this tablet and sometimes the pen point isn't accurate to where I'm pointing on the screen. It's sometimes off by a few centimeters. I usually have to restart my laptop, mess around with the PenTablet screen settings, and open my drawing software (Krita) again to fix the problem. Is my tablet bugged or is there a way to fix this?
You should be able to calibrate it with the pen tablet setting!
@@Neimykanani thanks! I've been doing that but it's never a permanent fix. The issue with the penpoint not being all the way accurate keeps recurring even after I fix it. Is there a speicfic step I'm not seeing under the "pen settings"?
@@twentyfour7080 I just click “calibration” and “calibrate” and appears the dots so I do the point click with the pen to calibrate my display
Is that only for drawing?
can u share your brushes? 🥺
how did ya get the custom apple pencil? :O that looks so cool
It's a decal from Slickwraps :)
how accurate are the colours compared to the ones on your laptop?
I don’t know about the pen display but the iPad has true tone display
Do it work with phone when you connect it through usbC ??
Nope
Hi, nice video! 🦋🦋🦋
I have the same problem about heat with iPad Air 2019 😒 but I found out that if I’ll turn off Wi-fi and I won’t have so bright screen it stops and the heat is really minimum 🤷🏻♀️
I also don’t use iPad when it’s charging and sometimes I let it discharge to 0% - I read that it’ll save the battery 🔋 before I just did this thing: when I used iPad I turn it upside down and I was drawing there - where it wasn’t warm 😂😅 but since I started using these tips, it’s stopped overheating so much 🥰🎨🙏 maybe it’ll help you too!
Thank you for this video! 🥰
Ah I see! I think at this point I've given in, I'll just take a break if it gets too warm xD
apple.cheeks xD haha, it’s a solution too that’s true! xD thank you very much for everything you’re doing ❤️ you’re gorgeous!
Did you use the screen protector with it? Did that reduce the paper like feel of the tablet?
I do use a screen protector on my iPad, but not the XP Pen tablet. The one for the iPad significantly reduces the screen quality and it doesn't really feel like the paperlike. I don't think people typically use a screen protector for their XP Pen Tablets.
apple.cheeks ok, thanks :)
for those filipinos watching this, the price is php 19,440.00. :)
Too expensive for my poor ass :(
About the screen protector I felt the same same way
We need a better screen protector ;-;

i’m hoping to get an ipad pro or air soon!
Oh no, don't they come with extra nibs??
apple.cheeks i believe they’re supposed to, but the person i bought the tablet from kept them :’)
You can buy replacement nibs online pretty easily, they're supposed to get replaced anyway

I think you have to have a laptop or computer :0
