    HI Jessa, yet another brilliant video. Can you clarify something you said? If testing the battery connector tells us there is a short on either Batt_VCC or VCC_Main, then there must be a connection somewhere between Batt_VCC and VCC_Main to be able to tell that there may be a short on VCC_Main from the battery connector. Therefore, if that connection exists, then when testing the cap in VCC_Main, the test would effectively test both lines all the way back to the battery connector, (due to the connection somewhere) and return a short! You stated this test would only identify a short within VCC_Main. Thanks.

    • @JessaJones

      You can reball a chip a quarter of the size of Tigris. I don’t reball chips that commonly get electrical damage because it’s just as easy to eliminate that variable and use a new chip for a few bucks

    That could mean that the origin of the word is 'Forte' in French wich means 'Strong' but with the feminine marker, and that's why you don't say the E, as the TE is only one syllable
    And the reason of the word having the E to be the feminin version is a mystery to me because the common use in France is more 'Ce n'est pas mon fort' wich litteraly translated mean'That's not my strong'...
    It makes more sense if it's Italian but they prononce the E independently too ...

    I think a good point to start when training repair noobs, is talking through some devices, normal function, faults and their symptoms, technique - get a good feel for their tech and repair literacy and comfort level. Make sure they're comfortable asking questions. You're gonna "waste" a lot of extra time in training, if you start out with language and explanations way over their current level. Accounting for and working to dismantle language/jargon barriers is really essential, because nothing is gonna work out if communication is bad. Have them observe a job 1st from start to finish (just observe), while you reduce your pace. Then do the same job again, _now_ they should ask questions. This way, you generally save a good bit of time on questions that answered themselves at a later stage in the process, and there will be less circling back and getting off-track.
    Instill early the imporance of being thorough, keep good track of screws and shields, not trying to get too much done before a unit goes back on the hotplate, disconnecting battery (generally respect lithium batteries and live electronics), cleaning seal surfaces, and not trying to work faster than what they can control (dropping a screwdriver on Ipad LCDs is a common result of working too fast).

      We don’t recommend the use of Fonekiller. The idea of it is clever, but it does not improve on existing methods and is very likely to make some repairable phones unrepairable and require CPU transfer

    Nice lesson learnt here, so I have a question regarding this, do you think the new stuff(short killer) mr Tao from fonekong introduce on Facebook last time could blow or melt off a short like this?
    A hell no I believe.

    • @JessaJones
      @JessaJones  5 лет назад +2

      I think the shortkiller is a dangerous tool that will damage many boards that are otherwise repairable. In this case I think the shortkiller would have burned a hole in the board somewhere and the board would not be repairable.

    “tigris was not hot” = push more current :P

    • @JessaJones
      @JessaJones  5 лет назад

      Big wires don’t get hot. Little wires get hot. What would happen is the smallest wire will burn. In this case, the short would be the LAST thing to burn after you’ve killed much of the board.
      Using current and heat to create fires on boards is a great way to destroy repairable cases.

    • @benmhart4706
      @benmhart4706 5 лет назад

      @@JessaJones I agree. The comment was intended to be a troll. I apologize if it came off as serious.
      It would have been nice to know the resistance between the battery line to GND, PP_VCC_MAIN to GND, and battery line to VCC_MAIN for this specific case.
      I would assume in this case all three lines would have been shorted together under Tigris. Your conclusion probably could have been realized without injecting power into the board if the resistance of these lines was measured. If all three lines were shorted together and there is a solder glob next to a chip that contains those three lines, one can assume that there is a good chance that chip is bad.
      I think this would have been a better alternative to show this from a teaching standpoint. Taking in measurements, closely observing the board, and reading a schematic encourages the beginner technician to use his/her brain to infer where a short could be instead of relying solely on heat. Although, I definitely do not think it was a bad idea to show that the heat does not always appear where the short resides. I certainly understand why you chose to highlight this case. (The less Plz Bro, the better) Personally, I just think blindly injecting voltage at BATT_VCC without measuring those lines first could be confusing or misleading for someone getting into the hobby/industry.
      But, who am I to nitpick at someone sacrificing their time to recording at midnight in order to provide a free resource to the community? Thanks for all you do for the community and keep up the good work!

    Yes and what to do if your short circuit doesn't get hot even after throwing 3Amps
    down the main power rail, there are NO visual clues, NO past history to refer to
    with every component on the shorted line(that has a path to ground) putting up its hand.
    'Will the real shorted component PLEASE stand up or I'll pull your faking friends off the motherboard
    ONE by ONE till I find you!' But you know that'll take forever and the shorted component has called your bluff.
    Time to throw out the board!
