I was in Bangaluru recently and visited Vidyarthi Bhavan in Lal Bagh. While the waiters deftly carried in their hands a pile of plates with Dose for serving customers that offered a good photo opportunity, the Dose itself was not great. Chutney served generously with Dose was made with ground Chana Dal in it instead of pure coconut chutney. Coffee compared poorly with that I had earlier in Brahmins' Coffee Bar in Lal Bagh.

Bangalore has been a wonderful experience, thanks to all the native Bangaloreans who took such good care of me.
Mridangam music in the background is very soothing
Vidyarthi bhavan = only masala dosa .... nothing else.

Cannot agree more.
I would rather have 2 or 3 dosas at a time!

One best food vlogger ever.
Detailed information on the food in a most eloquent way.
Most underrated RUclipsr in terms of experience
Went to this place today. I almost waited around 7 years to try this place. I tried their Crispy Dosas with Chutneys and Kesari bath. Every dish I tried is a superstar there. No wonder Kripal called it a Culinary institution. More than the food I am impressed by the exceptional service by their staffs. Also, Met the owner Mr. Arun Adiga and had a quick conversation with him. A very humble person who took sometime to talk to me in spite of the busy crowd. A must visit place in Bengaluru. A legendary eatery.👍🏻
Im from hyderabad. I love the way you eat the dosa, right from the center 😄👍👍👍 . And the way you express the taste of the food is what makes you special from others.

I have been introduced to southern food by my friend love alot of things and hate a few but the idli dosa wada are my favourite. Love ur videos and am happy that you make it in English so it can be understood by everyone
My all time favourite❤️ VB!! and thumbs-up for his vacabulary & his presentation👍👍👍
He uses copious amount of English in the presentation, especially when there is kick of the chilly on his ***e and then there is chemical analysis of the food ..... well the camera man is professional and deserves kudos. The rest is monotonous.
Awesome. So great - in these days of global recession, an establishment like this which have excelled in serving great food and holding their head high for last 75 years is such an inspiration. Love Vidyarthi Bhavan.. ❤️
Studied in BMS college in 90s, Have spent 20 yrs of my life in and around BMS college. I know what Basavangudi and its entire vicinity area extremely well and my memories associated with them. Walking from Ramakrishna Ashrama on sundays and having DOSas at VIDYARTHI BHAVAN was a compulsory affair for a Non Kannadiga like me. During college days used to come on my bicycle to have coffee in the evening and head towards my "room". I cant imagine my youth without Vidhyarthi Bhavan. I have shifted to whitefield now and my college mates who are still in touch with me, still cant adjust this "fact".
Thank u sir jee for taking me back to history.

Kripal very nice video!!! Very nice explanation!!! 🙂👌
OMG, am just drooling..... You are making everyone jealous
Kripal you rock!. I watch your video whenever I am missing the Indian delicacies and virtually fulfil my desires!
Nice sir the way u exploreing the food nd the restaurant its nice
Absolutely correct... Dose should be eaten with chutney and very little potato curry..
I had dose here in 2005 for Rs. 17 per plate.... Fantastic texture, thick and crispy outside but soft inside.....
Couple ofnpoints to the blogger is:
It is Vidyarti Bhavana
And it is uddina vade.... North indians made it as vada....
And it is masale dose... Not masaaal dosa...
There's no need to bring regionalism into this. Same nouns can have different pronunciations in different languages.
You Kannadigas first learn to cook and serve the Tamil dish Pongal properly.
Pongal is served with thick rice texture, and chutneys and sambar.
Not the stupid way in Bengaluru where it is served as a curd rice with Pachchidi. Hopeless combination.
Ah , every min of 23 mins of this video is fascinating ! as Kripal would describe
Aaaah...mouth watering description
Finally I went with my family today and savored all the best in offering at this iconic Food palace,,,Thank u.

I am just missing this place while watching the video and drooling around 12 in the night... i am brought up in Bangalore south.. used to visit this place with my parents in my childhood days... now sitting in another state and going back to these old beautiful memories..
This is the heart of Bengaluru... My heart
Mr. Kripal Amanna, well done. As the present owner of Vidyarthi Bhavan mentions in this video, the typical 'Mysore Masalae Dosae' does not come with sambar as accompaniment. It is only chutney that it comes with it. Some authentic masalae dosaes are smeared with red coconut chutney on the inner belly when on the frying pan itself. The accompanying Sambaar is an alien invasive habit from the Bombaywallas. We shouldn't be calling it sambaar which is again a tamil infusion. We call instead 'Huli or Kootu' ( there is a difference between huli and kootu in so far as the inputs of ingredients. Again Rasam is a Tamil name. We in old Mysore, the old 9 districts of the Princely State of Mysore, call it Thili Saaru and not rasam.) Furthermore it is not dosa, vada, rava etc., It is sacrilege to pronounce them that way. They are pronounced Dosae, Vadae, Ravae etc., Trust the old Mysoreans to be accommodative and submissive.
You may also note that most of these eateries are owned by people of South Kanara and Udupi areas. ....but one never gets to eat a proper dosae, vadae, idli, Uppittu ( not upma ) etc., in South Kanara your sincerely having studied engineering in Surathkal back in the old days of krec not nitk. I know the reason why after some probing.
Kootu is also Tamil.
Sorry if am wrong.... sambar is English version of huli... I guess... whereever you go its called sambar instead of huli
@@vijay-fz5ln ...Huli and sambar are not the same.
According to food historian K. T. Achaya, the earliest extant mention of sambar in literature can be dated to the 17th century.
Legend states that sambar was first made accidentally by the Maratha ruler Sambhaji, when he tried to make dal curry in absence of his chef. He added tamarind to the dal, resulting in the dish that later came to be known as sambar.
@@gopinathrajgopal4770 its English and kannada version that's it
Kripal, always fun to watch your shows! I came here searching after few whatsapp videos those were doing rounds, about Mangalorean food options. Now I am regular here.
One thing I miss about Bangalore is these masala dosas. You wont find this anywhere. I used to be regular at few places. Vidyarthi bhavan was one. Then one Janata darshan in malleswaram 5th cross I think (best place for Vada)... MTR for bisibele baat... there was one place in MG road, which i used to go just for the "coconut chutney taste"! 🤣 .... one more place was "Halli Mane" in Bull temple road- for various stuffed dosas. And Sona caterers in malleswaram, when I felt like having gsb food!
I agree with Adiga, when he says "Sambar" culture forced on us with dosas! 😁 sambar should be had only with rice. For everything else there is chutney! 🤘 good job, keep these coming! - Regards , AJ
Best video in these channel👍👍
Thanks 4 Sharing
Even in my home we use only chutney for Dosa. It was tradition in Karnataka. But now in hotels and town areas we can see sambar along with chutney. Its not bad at all. Thats a different taste.
We love our idly and dosa with spicy sambar and that's part of tamilnadu's tradition.. The owner's words were really rude..
Even my home also did only chutney and potato Pally with dose
Awesome coverage..One one hand my mouth was drooling yet I was amazed by the concentric perfection you ate your dosa which is a wonder in itself ...As always the attention to detail, bare facts and excellent lucid communication with no flowery jazz rocked this video and we shall be visiting vidyarthi bhavan again soon to wait and then belt...yiu should had mentioned about though a)how they expanded space from within to accommodate more people b) taken a walk down lane about eminent personalities as a run in(my suggestions again) but I sincerely suggest you to check out new Krishna bhavan opposite malleswaram 3 cross park as well ...It's also a legacy hotel but with its own patronage which serves yummilicious dosas and Mangalore bajjis
I luv Dosa, Idli, Uttappa
