Doing yourself give you and the dog a special bond, and IMHO they are calmer when they feel safe- vs- taking them to a groomer in a loud and strange place and being there for hours!
oh, I didn't think of that. humm, maybe I can try without trimmers. he's a rescue, so I don't want to leave him alone just yet, and he's still getting accustomed to strange sounds.
Thank you very much! This was a huge help! The last time we trimmed my golden's paws, it didn't look the best! LOL. The video was great and Jonah's paws look great, too!
Yay! I got a service dog from a program a few month back. When I got her her feet were nicely trimmed, but I was always afraid to trim them myself until now!
I am so glad to come onto this video for showing proper ear cleaning and trimming your dog's nails. I have always been a little afraid to cut my. dog's nail this king I may make him bleed. now that I see how to hold cutter at a 35-45 I shouldn't cut the quick. very information e video. thankyou
Haha, it's best to play around with their feet as often as you can and make it fun by giving them treats when you do it:) Once they don't mind you touching and playing around with their feet, the rest should be fairly easy, but it still takes practice. Congrats on your golden puppy! :)
My very fluffy-footed Collie/Springer X gives her thanks for showing me the easy way to do something I've previously been making a complete meal out of! ;-)
last time I tired this it was 2 treats per every centimeter of hair snipped and I accidentally jabbed the inside of my nose with the scissors and got a nose bleed.
We used to have a golden who had the same issue with the hair behind her ears! If you have a pair of thinning shears, that should help! As for technique, we always just kind of thinned the hair out a little at a time & then worked it until it looked decent. It took a few tries to get it right!
My labradors feet are soo hairy (not the top of the feet but the paw pad area) I used scissors last time but didnt get it all out , will probably use clippers next time (i feel it may be safer than accidentally jabbing him with the scissors)
This was great! Very helpful, just what I was looking for. Still cant find a technique for cutting my girl golden's crazy long hair under/below her ears and the back of her legs. The ones under her ears grow long and they stick out when she shakes her head and just makes her look silly. I'm afraid to cut it and make it worse. Any tips? Thanks!
I have a small youki and find the elec clippers too big for the feet, so bought a cordless mustache trimmer, as I fear cutting him with scissors and it works great.
When using the electric clippers is it possible to cut the dog's paw? I plan on using them for the under hair of the paw too, but don't want to hurt her.
The other (easier) option is to take them in to be groomed & they are usually pretty good about knowing how to do it to make it look really good. If you're willing to try it yourself with thinning shears though, good luck!
Dogs feet should be trimmed with round ended scissors(shears) and preferably curved shears. Also, no amount of trimming like that will find the rock solid balls of knotted hair that will very often be found on dogs with fine hairy paws, (Spaniels and the like), the hard balls will be well hidden and found only by putting your smallest finger between the toes one at a time and feeling very carefully toward the back of the toe where the balls hide, dogs toes do not part very much at all so be very careful doing this(hence smallest finger for feeling around) these hair balls can cause serious infection if not dealt with. Check if your dog is licking a paw too much or it it seems to be constantly wet from licking.
@seahills1 Thanks. :) It's really not that hard, but if you have any doubts, you are right, it's best to let someone who feels comfortable do it. :) Thanks for watching!
If you start in early and 'man-handle' your dogs a lot as a puppy it won't care about you touching its paws or putting it in awkward positions as an adult.
yes, I'm terrified to do this myself. even though my golden is so calm and so gentle. but seriously I don't think he will like the sound of those trimmers.
we had to capture it.. if you ever capture your dog in a bark, pair it with a command and then reward when they do it. eventually, if you get enough practice, they will understand that the command means to bark. :) sorry for just now getting back to you. good question!
+Dog Vlog Australia Start working with her by playing her her paws prior to doing any trimming. When you're holding her, or just relaxing with her on the sofa or whatever, reach down and gently pet/touch her feet...get her used to her feet being touched in a calm manner. With time, she'll be more use to it when it comes to grooming. Some dogs do have naturally ticklish feet so that may be a factor. good luck. (:
If you are a professional, scissors are fine, but I have seen nasty cuts by us "everyday laymen".Mustache trimmers cut close and never cut the dog. Their also smaller, so easier to cut just the area desired.
Bravi, ma come fate a tenere i cani così , sembrano statue, soprattutto quando vengono lavati e non mi sembrano cani molto docili...... ciao bravissimi 🤔🤔
I think this person needs a real pair of grooming shears. These look like crappy utility scissors! It's no wonder she has to keep cutting. They are not sharp enough to do the job the first time.

What a good doggo!!!

thank you! Just seeing this gives me confidence to do it! I know this will be a two-man job with our female!!
You are so lucky that your dog let you to do that! She/he is really well trained 👏
Thank you! My dog's paws now look great, hopefully they'll fare better in the snow too.
I love the little hands at the end ! Hehehehe! So cute! Well done! I do this too with my doggo. Looks nice!

Thanks!!! I didn't know to brush the hair on the paw upward. My first attempt was nicely trimmed but didn't look good. Thanks!! :)

So cute Love this clip
thank you for posting such an informative video. I shall use this on my collie/shepherd service dog tonight. I didn't think I could trim them at home
Thank you. Just been reading why this should be done, am going to start, and your video is a great help.
He's so well behaved! Btw this video really helped!
thanks so much..this is great and I can't wait to try on my dog! Good instructions and video!
Exactly what I was looking for...thanks for the video! :)
Parker is such a good dog. It's a wrestling match with Simon as he thinks it[s time to play. Nicely done video..
Great job!
this was so cute! thanx for making this video!
Thank you for this!!!
Yay! Thanks for the intructions!
Love, Kimba
last time I tired this it was 2 treats per every centimeter of hair snipped and I accidentally jabbed the inside of my nose with the scissors and got a nose bleed.
How the fuck did that happen
Dog moved, hand moved in a separate direction, small pair of scissors move up towards my nose, and did not stop until jabbed myself.
Meerkatmatt2 hahahahaha
🤣 Sorry for laughing. Sounds painful. That's the kind of thing that happens to me though. It's like how do these crazy things happen but they do.

So helpful Thank you!
Excellent and sooooooooooooo easy: Thanks!!
Great Job!
very nice clean job! :)
@PhoenixB4U Glad it came in handy!! :) (We were lazy in the video, but definitely recommend the smaller shears not scissors)
i thought i created my own golden retriever feet trimming technique by doing this for 9 years haha
My labradors feet are soo hairy (not the top of the feet but the paw pad area) I used scissors last time but didnt get it all out , will probably use clippers next time (i feel it may be safer than accidentally jabbing him with the scissors)
Great Video! Thanks!!
my dog does the same so i had to tie yarn around her mouth, then after i started she relaxed a bit and i would give her a treat after each paw.

Wonderful - thank you!
@maestro406 This is some copyright free music we purchased. :) This particular song is called Up The Back Stairs, if I remember correctly. :)
Great tips
awesome & funny !
Thanks! :) Hope it helps.
Thanks for the Tip !! :)
Thank you!
@Poodlecrazi yes, it's true! we have some. :) this was just a quickie video we did. if you have shears, it's a million shades easier.
I have a small youki and find the elec clippers too big for the feet, so bought a cordless mustache trimmer, as I fear cutting him with scissors and it works great.

Great video! thanks for unpload it!
thank you, you seemed as if you are a pro .
Hey! That's a good idea!
great, thank you

I'm glad it's coming in handy:) It's a fairly simplistic way to do it... but it works! Give Jonah a big kiss on the head for me!
thats awesome! thanks for sharing. I will take a try on my baby :)

You're welcome, Kimba! Good luck with those handsome feet of yours!
@Bulletwings21 Exactly. It's best if you do know what you're doing. And the scissors in this video are NOT ideal. It's best to use grooming shears. :)
Thank you so much! =)
It's some copyright free music we bought... I think this particular song is called Up The Back Stairs. :)
Perfect
Great video....What's the name of the song you used in your video?
Is it desirable to trim hair so you can see the nails ?
i noticed the scissors used were regular household scissors. not great for cutting dog hair. probably more risky.
lol so cute!
Thanks ,now I see the correct way.My groomer did such a miserable job last time I am afraid to take her to any groomer.
@seahills1 Thanks. :) It's really not that hard, but if you have any doubts, you are right, it's best to let someone who feels comfortable do it. :) Thanks for watching!
Heehee, I'm glad it worked for you. :) Give Jack a hug for us:)
Hi, how to you keep the dog so still?
you have to freeze it for 5 hours minimum
If you start in early and 'man-handle' your dogs a lot as a puppy it won't care about you touching its paws or putting it in awkward positions as an adult.
I forgot my dog
U made my day
yes, I'm terrified to do this myself. even though my golden is so calm and so gentle. but seriously I don't think he will like the sound of those trimmers.
Good luck!!
Touch and inspect his feet/body when you are just petting him in an effort to get him used to your touch. =)) Helps my dogs to accept their grooming.
@csps123 Thank you!

But my dog is SO tickly that i can't even touch his paw with scissors
@cokapepsi Haha, thanks! :)
i wanna kiss those paws :)
Great! Now where's the part when they hate you touching their paws?
Just training and praise to get them used to it.
my dog wont even give me his paw :'( he's scared and he tries to bite me. i do praise him a lot too and nothing works.
my poodle ALWAYS fights me to hold her feet :( any tips for that pleassssse

aww thanks i'll do that :D
Some clipper blade WILL cut your dogs paw pads if you use this technique a ten blade is recommended for beginner groomers

I tried he pulled and I almost passed out
i hope my doggie well behave as yours..😅
I always have trouble trimming my dogs hair evenly. She ends up looking worse than my Barbie dolls after I cut their her when I was 5 🤣🤣😂😂😫😭😭
How to trim your dogs feet (Not with those scissors)!!!!
It's not shears it's sciccors
Jyotsna Gaur In grooming it's shears.
In grooming, yes they use shears. But in the video, regular scissors were used.

Cut off their hair before they get suspended for wrong haircut.
Paws, not feet... It's not human
Dont quit your day job ....terrible job!!!
