Does anyone know what the last names of the house band orchestra members Mark (lead vocals), Chris (guitars), Tim (bass), David (keyboards) and Guy (drummer) are?

Sometimes you just have to accept defeat. And that's what the BBC should have done, when faced with SM:tv. Once you have a snowballing success like that, there's nothing you can throw back at it. They just needed to hold their nerve with Live & Kicking for a little longer. Sure, Live & kicking was beyond its natural shelf life by a few years already, but this was a bad moment to go replacing it. The SM:tv audience were not about to switch over. Not until Ant & Dec left, anyway. And that's where the beeb should have been savvy. It was obvious that Ant & Dec's soaring success was about to lead them out of children's TV and into prime time, the SM:tv bubble was poised to burst pretty soon. So hang fire, pick your moment and attack them when the moment arrives. The Saturday Show was fairly poor too, which didn't help.

Well that's where you are wrong. because when Live and Kicking was in its final series the ratings were much better than the Saturday Show which was Nigel Pickard's failure attempt. So you are wrong. The Saturday show failed and after just one year Dani Behr and Joe Mace were sacked from the show when Nigel realised that his Saturday morning creation has failed. He should never have axed L&K and that's something he'll never be forgiven for.

After they changed the set and started to fix the things that were wrong after Christmas 2001, The Saturday Show got better and in April 2022 they actually started to get better figures than ITV. They should have held their nerve with this show and kept it going and not changed presenters. Stamford Amp were one of the best things about it and Tiny and Mr Duk were good too but they just suddenly disappeared when the new presenters took over and it fell into a routine of non stop games. L&K was changed too radically after series 7 and basially turned into a new show in itself. They shoulkd have either stuck to the series 7 L & K format or kept faith with The Saturday Show. There is one member of That original Saturday Show team back on screen in the current Saturday morning show on CBBC though......

@@neilogden I didn't properly watch The Saturday Show, I just dipped in now and then to see what it was like and where it was heading. So my memory of it is very sketchy. The initial format just wasn't right. Fair enough, they tried to do something which was a little different from the traditional Going Live / Live And Kicking setup. But it felt a bit desperate, and the format wasn't quite what the audience were looking for. Danni Bher was better than I'd anticipated. I didn't expect her to be able to make the leap from Adult TV in The Word to a children's show, but I found her to do a decent job of it. The Fern Cotton / Simon Grant revamp certainly took it back to what the audience wanted. It was definitely better. But a bit of a re-tread of the past, nothing much new to see. The final version was not great. The low point was when they tried to do a big live spectacular from somewhere abroad. Paris, I think. So much effort went in to it, only for a major sound issue to render it completely inaudible for some 40 minutes or more. Bizarrely, the BBC just continued to broadcast it as though everything was fine. No caption, nothing.

@Neil Ogden What you said was wrong as well, The Saturday Show performed badly because hardly anybody watched it, they should've stuck with the 2000-01 era of L&K that's more watchable than this, again you are wrong and in the minority, no one agrees with you.

There was a show of the same title between 1982 to 1984 over on ITV made by Central that replaced TISWAS. Was presented by Tommy Boyd and Isla St Clair

This is basically the CBBC ripoff of CITV's SMTV Live. I know this because it has an inaccurate music chart show playing after the episode ends, specifically the CBBC Saturday morning broadcasts of the BBC1 adult-oriented music show empire Top of the Pops which airs around the 12:00pm noon midday-1:15pm timeslot
