Hello Lucas. I'd say the difference, to my ears, is quite subtle - no blowing away, obliteration, or destruction in either direction. I do notice a little more snap or spank from the TC, which is what I would expect from a torrified top, and that to me makes the TC edge out the non-TC guitar.
Thanks so much for watching and I agree that this is usually the benefit to baked top. In this particular circumstance in the room, at least I heard at the opposite way. It’s interesting how things translate onto RUclips. I don’t hear as drastic of a difference on the playback. It was really substantial in the room. Thanks a bunch for sharing your thoughts, and hope you have a good one.!
Hey, thanks so much for your comment! I’m gonna do my absolute best to get back and shoot some videos at Sounds good Music ASAP. Hoping to at some point in January! When I get back there, I will be sure to give that a look.! Happy holidays
The E8D seemed to be much brighter, responsive and resonant with a certain snap/bite to the fingerpickin part of it. Not that I know anything about guitars, LOL. I'm just passing on what my ears heard. Great video, and I love your playing. Thanks!
I’d say you know more than you think you do. There was a lot of snap to the non-baked guitar. I do like torrification sometime but in this case I much prefer the standard guitar. Thanks so much for commenting and for your kind words
My experience with Eastmans is for dreadnoughts, the non-TC sound really great. For OM size, the TC's sound better. I actually bought the E1OM Special (with TC top) from Sounds Good Music Ottawa. I really like it.
That’s some cool insight! I have not tried enough of the TC guitars to have a definitive opinion on them aside from this one isolated example, which could be very different from many. Awesome about your E1 special! Is that the one with the cutaway? I might have put my hands on that guitar just for a minute before it was sold to you. If so I was very impressed with it. Brett is a great guy. I’m happy to hear this
Is the age difference between them more than 3 years? That’s a thing, also did they use the Bourgeois neck joint in the newer one? But I agree the first was better.
Good point about the age of the guitars, but I believe that these are fairly close. Based on what Brett told me this was the last non-TC E8 he was able to snag. I assume that would mean it’s about Max one year older than the TC guitar. The neck joint thing is A little fuzzy to me. From what I understand they only did a couple of the traditional series guitars with the bolt on neck as a trial run, but for the most part they are only using the bolt on neck on the AC series.. for that reason I think both of these would be dovetail. All of that makes a difference though for sure. I actually prefer the sound of my acoustics with Bolt on style necks in general. I find they sound a little more alive and snappy. For that reason I see the bourgeois neck joint as a plus, but of course it’s subjective.
Thanks for the feedback. I do what I can. I’m almost completely blind so I try to keep things easier for the people who help me edit these videos and get them out..
Surprisingly in the room, the first one actually did sound a lot better than it comes across on this video. It was very alive and warm. I was really not a fan of the second guitar though. Thanks so much for watching.

@ cool thank you so much .
very nice comparison, thanks Lucas :)
Thanks for watching, and thank you for your kind words! Really appreciate that

I’m with you brother. I think TC ing a top can make it too stiff. Give the regular top every time. Good demo
Yes, sometimes it can. It all really depends on how it’s done and the stiffness of the tree that the top came from.

I always play a little better when I’m baked.
lol :-)
alternating 20 secs on each would be better, there's too long between each. You should do it A v's B on each style and move to the next style.

I was surprised that I did not like either guitar. They sure lacked the warmth and power of a D-28 for instance.
