Many of this bass riffs are the reason why a lot of people pick up a bass and start playing. Plenty of those are among my all time favourite riffs as well.
I think Queen’s bassist is quite under rated- though i think he’s awesome. I don’t hear a lot of bass players mention him as influence. But everytime i hear a Queen’s track- the basslines sounds well written.
onzkicg now a year later, after film Bohemian Rhapsody there’s every single bassist saying they only play cause of John with the only song they are able to play being a half-assed Another One Bites The Dust and people giving John Deacon way too much credit.
all are GREAT bass lines. say what you will about Disco, most of those tracks had some funky ass bass lines. love it. some my personal favorites include: Sir Duke - Stevie Wonder, I Will Survive - Cake, Hysteria - Muse and Soul to Squeeze - RHCP
With so many Facebook bass players playing very complex bass lines, seems the simpler the bass lines are the better they sound and are more popular with audiences.
You're right. Most of these lines are found in almost all the top lists consisting of best bass lines. Learning them well is challenging, grooving them to the nth degree is next to godliness.
I find that those players who play with a million miles an hour like all the bassist he's shown or those who play really slow and melodically to not be as fun. If you can groove those rootnotes alone that is awesome. I know they can do this but those rythmical grooves are way better imo
Scott, I've been watching your channel for years and I don't even play bass. I come for the inspiration you provide to anyone trying to learn or challenge themselves at music. You bring a lot of positivity and encouragement to any video, whether it's about changing strings or learning modes. It's never phony or contrived- it's hard-earned positivity that just beams out of you and transcends the realm of bass playing. You deserve every success in the world and you make me proud to be a member of our species.
I'm a recent watcher, and subscriber, of your videos and I have got to say that the fact that you found wearing a glove saved your love of playing a bass guitar has been a blessing to myself, and many others I'm sure, keep up the good work!
Woah! Kuru/Speak Like A Child by Jaco Pastorius. How did I miss that over the years? Just played it on Spotify. Demi Semi Quavers ... on bass! open.spotify.com/track/4MHAKQ1IP3KUE4eTqSAnCk
Loving the funk! I play in a 70's disco funk band here's some more to check out that are great fun to play: Car Wash And The Beat goes on Boogie Nights Le Freak Lets Groove Tonight Thats the way I like it Night Fever
Nice selections Scott. The disco songs are great for practicing rhythm and endurance. I also love Flea on "Give it away" and Sly & Family Stone "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" - just fun to play.
This is why i love being a Bass Player because of how each Bass Line makes you get your groove on & pulls in to the extent it makes you dance inside... All The Best & A Happy New Year For 2018 To All You Bass Player's Out There...
I love the Chili Peppers! One of the most funkiest of their albums is the One Hot Minute album which is very underrated. Some of my favorites are Walkabout, Coffee Shop, Falling Into Grace, and Aeroplane (of course)
Fine playing mate! My personal favorite is Barbarism Begins at Home by the Smiths. Andy Rourke is a criminally underrated bassist and one of my favorite players
Mr Scott, fantastic Funk lines and I so appreciate how you mashed them up in one short video. You made this looks so smooth and simple and I dig the changes of the right hand techniques. Also, thanx for the tabs and backing track!! Again, amazing video and will look forward to more creations from ya. Clicking on the sub now Cheers
My top 10 Bass riff's in no particular order: 1. Rick James/Super Freak! 2.Patrice Rushen/Forget me not! 3. George Duke ft.Stanley Clark/Dookie Stick! 4. Kano/Make up your mind! 5.Rick James/Mary Jane 6.Dazz Band/Let it Whip 7.Jeffery Osbone/Baby stay with me tonight! 8.Lakeside/Fantastic Voyage 9.Teena Marie/Lover Girl 10.Mtume/Juicy Fruit Man, there are so many classic badass riff's, I know you even left many off your list as well...lol, too many to list! I feel so guilty leaving them off; but that's my short list of classic's... I think
This is great, good for a lot of people who read tab. I never learned tab, I looked at it and found it confusing. I had to learn the number system in the 80's when I started doing studio work and I took professional lessons to learn notation which I hardly every used.
TwatBraker_69 when you master these basslines with that same, infectious groove that Scott shows here (and with those delicious little nuances), you're a badass in my books. Phenomenal.
TwatBraker_69 my badass conception goes back to my Americana roots and classic rock with songs like up on cripple creek or jemima surrender by the band and then rock this town by the stray cats/Brian setzer
Hi Scott - loved this - I'm a songwriter and I'm trying to put a bass line to an old up tempo disco song I'm writing a new Finale sheet music to - this really helped me at 2,45 mins in and in the meantime - loved everything! Love a great bass line, eh?! Cheers Scott!
All these comments about what should have been in there just shows how many great bass lines there are and how important bass players are. That was not even the tip of the iceberg. And so many genres to pick from Scott, very cool how you played all those bass lines with your own personal flavor without changing the essence of the line. So no matter which song or what bass tone, you could always tell that's you. You are a bad-ass bass player and teacher!
The most remembered tunes aren't usually complex, jazz is technical but boring most of the time, while rock and metal are simple and heavy. I like almost all generes a bit, but I always come back to classics 70s & 80s. This is a great channel anyway.
@@frostmusicofficial There is no doubt about this. Last time I saw Queen was on TV. A live gig with Freddy Mercury, before his sickness was visible. John had at least three Precision basses on the stage, one of them a 54 - 58, the early ones with the Single Coil, and two with the Split Coil. Plus there was his Sting Ray. I cannot tell on what songs he played which particular Bass, bass, but he used the StingRay pretty often. I am a big fan of the StingRay 4 and 5, having a 4 and three 5, and have a 1964 Precision plus a 50's Precision MiM. So I was happy with every bass John Deacon was choosing.
Kong and Basses well as a huge John Deacon fan I can tell you this, in the early 70’s he had two sunburst precision basses, one ‘66 and ‘68 - in 1975 he had the ‘68 refinished natural. During the ‘76 day at the races tour when the stingray came out, he used that one a lot. Around the late 70’s and early 80’s he almost always used his p bass and the stingray only for songs like Another one bites the dust and sheer heart attack. Around 1980 he got a red p bass, white pups, pick guard. He used it only for under pressure live, but a lot in the studio. Before the ‘86 magic tour he had his ‘68 natural p bass refinished black with the gold hardware, and almost exclusively used that. I haven’t really watched any videos from the ‘86 tour besides Wembley and Budapest, and for the whole show he never switched basses
My favorite has got to be Rush's Caravan. It isn't necessarily the most technically impressive, (especially comparing it to Geddy's other basslines), but it has an absolutely awesome sound, especially when he throws the distortion on it closer to the end of the song, and it just gets this grouchy sound, mmmmmm, absolutely love it
4 badass bass riffs for me are: Soulful Strut by Young Holt Unlimited, Wet Sand and Soul to Squeeze by the Red Hot Chili Peppers & Killing In The Name by Rage Against The Machine
Great job! All great bass lines and I agree on most. My all time favorite bass line is send me forget me nots, that one is as catchy and funky as it gets 👍
Interesting in Billie Jean - Scott playing the F# on the E String and D Strings simultaneously - I thought I heard somewhere that the octave doubling present on the recording was a synth overdub, not the player actually striking both notes. It works, though! I should have been doing it a long time ago.
Loved you had I Wish, Disco Inferno and Chamelion on the list. I was missing 3 classics though: 1. What is Hip 2: Hit Me With your Rhythm Stick 3: And Just around the corner. If you do a another top 10 please put them in
My favorite bass lines 1# Jurrasic funk - Funk connection 2# Tower of power - Funk the dumb stuff 3# Jackson 5 - Darling dear 4# Mononeon - there are two truths, it depends on where you stand 5# Lettuce - lettsanity 6# Funkadelic - Cosmic slop 7# Parliament - Dr. Funkenstein 8# Weather report - Cucumer slumber 9# Incognito -Still a friend of mine 10# Parliament - Bop gun (endangered species) 11# Vulfpeck - Daddy got a tesla
Badass,Vid man..! I freaking love it....! Most of those were also my favorites...!! Thank you for the vid and your good fun attitude as always towards playing the Bass,!! You're enthusiasm really drives me to just pick up my Bass 🎸 and play whatever comes from inside,!!

So Nice Scott ! Just made a Lesson on bass guitar in my musical theory course last week. In My top ten there was 5 of you. i'll show them your video they can hear clearly the bass ! Thanks :)
Name two tracks you find most important for general knowledge, harmony and technique. I've been playing guitar for 30 years so hit me (fairly) hard... I will try to learn them with all my heart ❤️
Nice popular bass line list. Here, let me help you with an actually bad-ass bass line list: 1) Tommy the cat 2) American Life 3 ) Come on my selector (slap part) 4) One word 5) Teen town 6) The bridge to come on come over 7) Skinny sweaty man 8) School days 9) Pretty little ditty 10) Pow!

What a selection. Easily one of the best Bassline top tens I’ve seen. Runaway is a phenomenal bassline

As a guitar player, i definitely agree
He did play some good bass lines like 'Another one bites the dust'!
@@user-xw6uh3yp7g bruh you need to find "millionaire waltz" covers to find the real deacon inspired bassist

A badass one would be
Around The World by RHCP

Daft Punk version has a funky bass line.

Yes also Forget Me Nots and Someone Else's Guy. Top bass lines to learn and play!
absolutely. I loved Scott's video where he broke down Forget Me Nots.
HYSTERIA YEEEESSSS
Funk and disco aren't exactly the same thing
Discos problem was it was ahead of its time.
They werent ready and it took them for a ride they would have all forgot 😂
With so many Facebook bass players playing very complex bass lines, seems the simpler the bass lines are the better they sound and are more popular with audiences.
David Desmond yes, absolutely!
That's been my experience. Listeners like simple, groovy bass lines. Bass players loove the complicated stuff.
I concur. A good example is a new song by maroon 5 called "what lovers do". Love that bassline

Agree 100%. Such great and funky album.
Another one bites the dust takes the top of the cake in my opinion 🤘🏻
"Them Changes" of Thundercat is one of my favourite bass riffs.

At some point, John Deacon noticed his bass was missing...
I think the original bassline was played with a Stingray.
Don't want to be picky, tho.
no he means john deacon used to play a bass almost exactly like this one

I love all the solo stuff but when a bass player plays bass and gets a sound like that, I take my hat off to you sir.

This is your best sounding P-bass for video playback IMO
Nice tone Scott!
Great selection of songs.
