Hey Simon. Great vid. I just wanted to let you know you were the very first manga-tuber I came across when I just started my manga journey a couple months ago. Never read manga, never was into any anime before. I already am deeply invested into a couple series, but especially a suggestion from you in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. It is SO GOOD! Both the manga and anime are so beautiful and I love Frieren’s deadpan humor, fierce love for her crew and chill badassery. Can’t wait for Vol 10! Also gonna check out the sponsor in this video. i actually hated gantz mainly because of the mc and the amount of "content", felt like every chapter there was some form of it (maybe cause i was reading the omnibus's) so i sold my 2 omnibus's, until i was at half priced books and saw gantz 7,8,9 the spot that wouldve been omnibus 3 called my dad to see if i should pick them up he said yes considering how rare they are and I did. Read them recently in one sitting and now ive returned as a fan after what happened after what happened in 8 or 9
Yes thank you!!! The vol 4 of Tokyo Aliens felt so weird!!! It's like the pages are too thick or it's been glued differently or SOMETHING but it's so weird!! I hate it!

"Peak soldier volume 5" I chuckled 💀 but on a serious note, chained soldier is peak, but it's also peak, if you get what I'm saying? Ecchi has no reason being this good. It's genuinely a better shounen than some of y'all favorites (looking at you Boruto fans)
Also, love Boy's Abyss. It's a dumpster fire you can't help but keep coming back too. Reminds me of Domestic Girlfriend, lol.

Sorry for being so late to this one! Was finishing up the college term and busy with work lately. Finally have a bit of time off to catch up on things. Oh dang you picked up Go For it Nakamura! I believe that was my recommendation. It's definitely got an old school anime art style, I really hope you enjoy it. Also wanted to mention I caught up with reading my Blue Lock physical volumes, just read volume 9 last night and I'm loving it so far. The current match I'm on is super hype!
I also picked up The Summer Hikaru Died Volume 2 last month, and a lot of other newest volumes, like Spy x Family 10 and the newest Witch Hat volume. Also picked up the first two Omnibuses of Homunculus and am really excited to start reading them. Also because of you I'm still collecting Call of the Night but haven't even started reading it yet lol. I have volumes 1-13 now. Another relevant series I recently finished reading from my collection that I know for a fact you have read already is Hells Paradise. I really enjoyed reading through it and feel it picked up in the middle until the end. So many of the characters ended up being amazingly written and the fights were great. Shugen is the goat.
Super happy you are still enjoying Gantz as much as you are! Origin and Innocent are both new releases I'm still thinking of picking up. I totally get what you meant about the "stiff" volumes. Ive gotten some weird volumes lately that are stiffer than normal manga volumes and they are super hard to open/read. I think it's a printing issue to be honest.
Ohhh wow I was actually looking into Love Me For Who I am, but I couldn't find volume one anywhere here and it seems to be overpriced online (might be out of stock here in Canada.)

Luckily I’ve got a 2 week break from everything coming up as my place of work closes for a bit during this time. I also finished up the term so I’m satisfied about that! Nice haul! I'm interested to hear your thoughts on Ichi-F when you get around to reading it (I recommended it when I was in the middle of reading it, and I found the core concept to be interesting, but it did start to lose me the longer it went on, so I'm curious to hear about your experience with it). Also, Call of the Night continues to be PEAK, and with the series ending at chapter 200 (probably sometime in January), it looks like we'll get to talk about the ending sooner than we thought 😂. As far as Tokyo Aliens volume 4 is concerned, they probably changed the binding glue, which makes the pages stiffer than normal. That's just a guess, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that's what happened since companies are looking for ways to cut costs.
I've actually been watching more anime than reading manga recently, but I did pick up Blade of the Immortal volume 1, Monster volume 1, Attack on Titan Omnibus 7, and Rascal Does Not Dream of a Logical Witch. I'm currently in the middle of Blade of the Immortal and have yet to read the other books, but I'm excited to get into Logical Witch.
Literally after i recorded this video i saw the new Rascal and immediately thought about re recording the video so i can add it in 😂! I’m gonna miss call of the night when it ends. I respect that it’s not overstaying its welcome but i hope it has an amazing ending!

How's that Colorless behind you? I always flip through them when I see em but I don't know shit about them.
I’m honestly terrified to read that second omnibus 😂. Colorless is a banger. It’s like a sci fi batman
for Tokyo aliens its most likely that, your other volumes were printed in location, and this one is printed somewhere else. like I have noticed certain prints almost always being stiffer compared to others, Italian prints and Canadian prints are really nice quality feel of paper, but my USA prints have darker blacks and thicker pages but also stiffer pages for the most part. manga quality control is horrendous. for example dan da dan i have this issue with 1,2,4,5 are all really nice feeling but vol 3 is really stiff. 1,2,4, and 5 are all Italian / Canadian prints and vol 3 is a USA print.
This seems like an interesting topic for me to research on. I’ve never heard this before but that’s actually fascinating!
You’re the first one I’ve ever heard that says that Italy / Canada prints are better quality, usually it’s the USA printing that’s the standard everyone wants because Italy prints are harder bound and the pages are so thin they’re see-trough (and it also makes the volumes themselves much thinner). They are also extremely misaligned and have glue lines on the spines a lot of the times. Along with other missprints. But that’s if we’re strictly speaking VIZ because they’ve had the most controversy around it. They always print in the USA for their first printing and other countries for reprints (at least in the latest two years). I don’t mind it as much as when they completely change it as they did with Tokyo Aliens though were they use thicker paper. But you’re correct that the country changed between printing for it.
i prefer the looser pages of the italian prints, and the harder spine, i have not had many issues with misalignment, but my USA box sets are ALL misaligned, my U.S.A volume of dandadan has printing errors where there was ink bleed on the pages, so don't keep U.S.A. out of that category of quality control, viz media is just bad on all fronts, even cropping on volumes at times is horrid. Dark horse, seven seas, kodansha, and yen press singles all feel so much better in my hands personally, Viz does make signature editions which are perfect, then they have viz bigs one of the most uncomfortable reads for me. viz media is all OVER the place with their quality and its upsetting.
though that's the beauty of collecting everyone has their own preferences.
Have heard some concerning things about volume 3-4 of Homunculus so I’m kind of scared to continue it. I was also going to recommend Depth of Field to you! I thought it was really really good.
I don’t know what Square Enix has been doing lately with their quality, I’ve seen more of their newer series have the same quality and it horrendous. Volume 4 looked like it had been water-damaged and then dried with how wavy and stiff it was. When I heard volume 5 of Tokyo Aliens was the the same I decided to drop the series, might read it digitally but I have no interest in buying from a company that doesn’t care about their products. I love The Apothecary Diaries so I’m going to cry if it receives the same treatment. They should just stick with a printer that they know works. If they are printing between countries at least specify paper quality and weight…
Restart After Coming Back Home has a sequel, it’s called Restart After Growing Hungry. The same Mangaka also did Send Them A Farewell Gift for the Lost Time that Tokyo Pop is releasing in 2024. The last one is amazing, one of my favorites (but the first two is also great).
Send them a gift is such a pretty title that I’m going to get it because of that 😂
