    personally, i feel like it would be best to take all the series you’re even considering unhauling off the shelves and out of your room. then for the next week, if you don’t miss seeing those series on your shelves much, let them go without a second thought. i feel like when your collection is larger and you’re clearly running low on shelf space, the space that you would make from letting some books go itself is really valuable (in some ways more than the books themselves). you’ll be able to breathe easier since you’ll have the room to spread the books you love most out nicely rather than be constantly drowning in books. i feel like, especially for people who enjoy reading both physically and digitally, it’s best to keep your physical collection as curated as possible to your current tastes (along with series that will always be special to you) since you will love everything you own/display without hesitation. but in the end, it’s up to you☺️

      I do that too! It's really helped me in the past, and not just getting rid of things because I feel like I need to as well. I almost got rid of books I would've regretted letting go of.

    my heart lowkey dropped when you said that you might get rid of banana fish, monster, and vinland saga as those are some of my favourite series 😭especially with banana fish since collecting all the volumes must've been a journey. but at the same time, i totally agree with giving them away to a new home if you're not wanting them anymore

    I think the Marie Kondo method will definitely really help! At least in my experience, even with series that are un-rereadable like Monster, I kept what sparked joy in me, and it resulted in a library that I am extremely pleased with. That might help you with your viz app dilemma and what Shounen series to keep or not, haha.
    AAAH I really don’t wanna be THAT person but omg, please give Golden Kamuy another chance. It’s like one of my favorite series of all time and the later volumes really start picking up steam. It’s just so fun, wacky and an absolute roller coaster of a read. Genuinely the most fun I’ve ever had reading a manga???
    This was a really fun video and I really like the format! I honestly love manga unhaul videos and imo, they’re more fun to watch than haul videos since we get to hear more of your opinions

      thank you so much for the feedback! and ahh i'm hoping golden kamuy comes to my library, i ended up unhauling the 2 volumes i had but i can see myself coming back to the series in the future.

    LOVE the Photocards!! That was so fun. I just got into Photocards collecting when I got into zb1 after boys planet. They are my real first group I ever stanned I just heavily collect Matthew as he’s my ult and keep whatever I pull from albums cuz I do love the entire group. Also started a Jaechan DKZ collection as well but it’s alot of fun and I love seeing others as well!

    Unhauling is super easy for me :D
    I get rid of anything that doesn't make me happy and i don't want to reread anymore.
    If i'm really unsure, wich doesn't happen too often, i read the entire series again to see how i feel about it.
    I got rid of my Yona Volumes 1-35 because i realized i never want to reread the series like ever around volume 30, even though i still liked the manga. My library has it, so i can continue reading it there :)
    Personally i'm tend to avoid reading digitally, unless i can download the manga i bought and save it on my computer, just in case the the app get's shut down and i loose all the stuff i "bought" and basically wasted a bunch of money.

    • @tsukkinotes
      @tsukkinotes  8 месяцев назад

      ahh i am jealous that unhauling is so easy for you 😓 i think my main thing is that i don't want to regret selling or letting go of something because it has happened to me with other collections. i'm kind of a hoarder too ...
      that is a good point about digital though!

    Since you’re saying you can read it online, that might be ur answer. Cus when I start collecting manga, I’m only gonna buy the volumes of the manga I love. Just so they’re part of my collection, regardless if I ever read them physically afterwards.

    • @littlebee7147
      @littlebee7147 11 месяцев назад +1

      This is pretty much my mentality. I normally read a series complete via the library and then collect afterwards if I want it. The ending affects collectability for me.
      I thought the Banana Fish, Monster and 20th Century Boys were fantastic unhauls. There are times when the series that is a 10 is something to be unhauled simply because the high you got from reading it the first time will never come again no matter how good the series is.

    • @tsukkinotes
      @tsukkinotes  4 месяца назад +1

      thank you for the advice!! ya ug i'm just worried i'll regret it or the apps i read on will become more expensive or full of ads so not sure if i want to completely rely on that

  • @fluffyluffy9307
    @fluffyluffy9307 11 месяцев назад

    I think the Marie Kondo method is a very good approach, that's essentially what I use to decide what I want to unhaul.
    For completed series, I'll ask myself whether I'm likely to re-read it. Re-readability is a big deciding factor for me in my collection, there's series I've enjoyed but I know I'm not likely to ever re-read or at least not any time soon, so I'll sell those on to make more space.
    As for ongoing series, if I unhaul an ongoing series, it tends to be within collecting the first few volumes when I'm still trying it out and deciding if I enjoy it. If I'm not excited about picking up another volume or new volumes sit there unread for a while and I just don't feel like picking it up, I'll unhaul it. I was reluctant to do that at first, but when I started doing it I realised I pretty much forgot about the series entirely once it was gone from my collection. For example: I'd been collecting Toilet bound hanako-kun as it was releasing up to vol 12. It took me ages to get round to reading volumes 9-12, like literally months and I hasdn't picked up any vols past 12 because I hadn't been reading it. So I'm now selling it. I do like the series, but I just never feel like reading it, nor am I particularly interested in knowing what happens.
    Everyone's different, but letting go of series really is refreshing. Sometimes looking at your packed shelves and seeing series there you barely touch can be a pain. I love the feeling of looking at my collection and only seeing series there that I really love.

    • @tsukkinotes
      @tsukkinotes  3 месяца назад +1

      thank you so much for the advice! i think we have the same mindset, rereadability is the main factor i consider when keeping series. i like that way of thinking about ongoing series as well ❤️

    I am also struggling to decide what to get rid of lol. Series I just liked instead of love are on the way out. One piece of advice I read from Marie Kondo that I kind of adhere to is that what books are accurate representations of your tastes and who you are. If someone were to come into your space & see your shelves, what do you want it to say. And I don't know I really liked that sentiment and it helps me to decide the series I no longer want.

    with unhauling it creates room for more of what you love! and hopefully recoup some costs! i do it all the time, especially on mercari i sell stuff and then the balance i use kinda feels like free money lol there are just some series i know i will never read again! or never read to begin with and holding onto it forever just doesn't make sense to me. (though i feel like you fumbled on the golden kamuy definitely read it somewhere at some point it's incredible)

    Since you mentioned reading online: If you have not done so already, get yourself a Los Angeles Public Library card.
    Most of the publishers are on that library's digital catalog. You can save a lot of money on series you just want to try digitally (like Golden Kamuy).

    • @yabbaiboi
      @yabbaiboi 11 месяцев назад

      I’m really interested in checking this out! How do you apply if you’re not a resident of California? I saw that there are non-resident cards, but there’s a fee for those. If you just put in a random address, would there be some sort of confirmation in the mail?

    • @littlebee7147
      @littlebee7147 11 месяцев назад

      @@yabbaiboi It is an in-person application for non-residents and CA residents to get a library card because the library needs to see a state-issued ID and a bill with your current address if it doesn't match (and yes, non-residents pay a fee and need to renew in-person yearly). I'm mainly telling Tsukki because the areas in Los Angeles that she's shown in her vids (like Downtown LA and Del Amo Mall) have branches in the area.
      The library's E-card is open to Los Angeles residents and gives you access to the digital libraries. I'm not sure how the address verification works on those because my library card predates the implementation of the E-cards. I vaguely remember that they send things via snail mail to check but I'm not sure how strict they are in determining who is in Los Angeles and who is in CA.

      RUclips yeeted my answer for some reason (maybe because I noted public locations in old vids and it registers to YT's bot as a dox?). Hopefully, you saw the response as a notification and this doesn't get deleted for spam.
      The short answer is that it is in-person only whether you are in CA or not. E-cards are still subject to verification and are open to residents of the city.

    One thing I will say is services do end and we don’t “own” anything digitally. Physicals take up room but are semi-permanent other than wear and tear from time and use. I’ve unhauled in the past but I’m still regretting a massive unhauling I did years ago, since a lot of the series are harder to find now and I can’t easily read them.
    I feel you on the jump stuff though! A lot of the jump series I just read on the app because I don’t love them enough to have physicals and they are a lot longer. Also Kmanga is still not available for Canadians! Woo!😭

    • @tsukkinotes
      @tsukkinotes  8 месяцев назад +1

      that is true! especially with the recent crack down on illegal scan websites ... the Japanese companies might get fed up and just ban all digital avenues overseas who knows 💀 but ya the potential regret is probably my biggest factor in not letting stuff go :(

    thank GOD I'm so happy we're getting more journaling content, I just did my first spread for a book I read called Weyward (slight fantasy, witch related and covers generational POVs, nature, and some sexual and domestic assault) and I love how my spread for it turned out. highly recommend, I know you're not a fantasy reader but it's really more a love of and connectedness to nature
    you should read Sayonara Football this year so it'll motivate me to read it too!!! 16 volumes actually you'll probably read that in 2 days, it's my goal to read Sayonara Football this year
    also I don't care about KPOP, I'm a punk kid and am not interested myself but I LOVE hearing you talk about it!!! especially the cards, I collect pokemon cards so I totally get the vibes. keep doing KPOP content!!! 💖
    NOOO NOT PRINCESS JELLYFISH I think personally, rereadability doesn't make or break a series on my shelf. if I absolutely love it but might not reread it , I would totally still keep it. in the end, trust your gut!! if you 2nd guess it so many times tho you'll probably just want to keep it 👀

    I really disliked after we gazed at the starry sky, representation wise it was problematic and it romanticised problematic behaviour towards physically disabled people. Moving someone’s wheelchair and picking them up especially when you don’t know them is terrible behaviour and it’s a big problem that people have irl and seeing it framed in a romantic way is really gross.

    the unhauling starts off small and then you get the nice feeling of having space which paves the way to becoming more strict with what you keep XD so i think it'll become easier the more you do it. i def think the same way you did tho. does it have re-readability. and if not, does it have any sentimental meaning for you. if none of the above, then consider unhauling 🥲 it makes me feel bad bc like you said for some, it's not like you didn't enjoy them. i've unhauled entire series that i really enjoyed and are really loved in the community but realized that i would probably never reread it considering there's so many new series coming out
