- When I was 36 I was told I needed to have a pacemaker implanted, it’s been 1 year since I had my surgery. In this video I highlight my experiences over the last year, and update you about what happened at my latest Cardiologist visit.

Interesting that you mentioned pacemaker induced Tachycardia. I’m two weeks out and have had Tachycardia three times. I’m also set at 60BPM. Thanks for the heads up. Will definitely discuss with Dr.
It is pretty concerning when it happens unexpectedly. I had to be persistent when telling the doctor what was going on, because I didn’t know what it was called. I hope you can get it tuned and corrected soon. Thanks for sharing, and I hope you are feeling well.

Thank you so much for your video I am two days out of surgery learning experience I passed out on the Fourth of July and they inserted the pacemaker on the seventh 63 year old heavy equipment mechanic a real wake up call !!!!! I work 55 hours a week .Time to start enjoying life.
Hi Andy, that must have been scary passing out and finding out you needed a pacemaker. The good thing is that the pacemaker helps prevent that from happening again. I had mine 1 month ago.but I still have pain because of keloid process.but the pacemaker works properly.This morning at the store I felt like a pace only for 1 or 2 mns,I was so scare.Thanks for sharing your experience.before my surgery I watched your videos.it's was helpful.I work in the medical field,I know what it is,but getting it yourself it's an another thing.Thanks again.
Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad to hear that sharing my experiences was helpful for you. I still have periodic discomfort around my scar, but it's mostly dry skin that lotion helps with. @@CyborgVlog I got my PM back in Sept at 57. Heart rate was hitting as low as 13 BPM and was pausing for up to nine seconds in deep sleep. The last few days before the surgery my daytime average HR was in the mid twenties. I like to ride my bicycle hard, so I've had some adjustments to the device as well. Since I was able to ride up Vail Pass here in Colorado Saturday morning I would say I'm pretty happy with the results.

Well, presented video. I am helping a loved one with a pacemaker and I have found it's a BIG learning process. And I actually have been working in heathcare for numerous years. Educate yourself and it will reassure you more and more. The more you know the better. Use your booklet that came with the pacemaker as a
reference.
Thanks for the feedback. Every visit to the cardiologist I ask more questions. I find the pacemaker manufacture hesitant to provide detailed information, often referring me back to my doctor. Thanks for watching!
@@CyborgVlogWe received a booklet from "Medtronic" (yours may be a different brand). It was like a car manual, lol. It had frequently asked questions and dos and don'ts. We recently received a "Relay" monitor to put in the bedroom within 10 feet away. It records the info from the pacemaker. We haven't programmed it, yet. It has the capability to transmit this information when programmed.
Just had a pacemaker implanted on Dec. 21/20. See surgeon in a few days and I hope he can solve the issues I am having. Thanks for posting your journey with a pacemaker.
It may take a little while for the doctor to get it tuned just the way you need it, but remember it is there to help you. Thanks for sharing, and I hope you have a speedy recovery.

I might be getting one. Not sure yet. Bradycardia. I do find I’m out of breath sometimes, after doing something physical. So, I appreciate these kind of videos, as I like to be informed.

Hi, thanks for sharing. I hope you feel better as you continue to recover. The implant site will hurt or be sensitive for a while, but with some time you probably won’t even notice it is there. Best wishes, and thanks for watching!
Hello, I have been given a pacemaker,a week ago, fitted because I have a slow heartbeat, bradycardia, I've collapsed twice at work. Still very tender at the incision site. I'm 55 years old. Thank you very for your video. Take care.

I have 3rd degree Heart Block and I am asymptomatic. Ill be having a doctor's appointment soon. Looks like i might need a Dual chamber PM. Feeling anxious. Thanks for giving so much vital information.
I was asymptomatic as well, since it only happened when I was asleep. Finding out you need a pacemaker is an emotional time, I went through a wide range of emotions, scared, angry, then relieved once it was implanted. It is perfectly normal to be anxious, but doctors are great at implanting pacemakers. I wish you the best, and if you do get one, you can have peace of mind that your heart has a computer backup.
Thanks for making this video. I'm 32 and currently being tested to see if I need a pacemaker. I have a 2:1 second degree AV block so I'm a little nervous about the whole thing. It's nice to hear your experience!
Hi Rose, it is natural to be nervous when you learn you have a heart condition. I was nervous, worried, angry, and pretty much every other emotion at some point. If you do need to get one, it may feel strange at first, but after a while it is just a normal part of you. Remember it is there to help you live a long and happy life. My doctor is hesistant to put a PM in right now because of my age so they're just tracking my symptoms right now and following up every 3 months to see if my symptoms are presenting severe enough for a PM. I did have a three day hospital admission a month ago because of a severe AV Block episode so it wouldn't surprise me if my doctor wants to go ahead with a PM soon. How have you been doing with your AV Block?
@@rosejohnson7603 this is great information, thank you. I was given a Zio patch and the results were me have 1- 8 heart blocks a day. I had an ablation procedure a year and a half ago for SVT my new symptoms started about 4 months ago heart block had never been an issue before then and of course with covid now I can't see my doctor for another month due to long appointment wait time. Trying to seek out as much information as possible. Are you having symptoms daily? What are your symptoms?
Just had mine implanted 4/27/21 home and feeling nervous just watched and nice to here it's going well!!! I'm being test for apnea as well 49 will be 50 in June 👍🏻
Hi Jeff, I hope you’re feeling well today. It is a scary time after having something attached to your heart. I was very focused on what it was doing at first. I’ve had it three years now, and it has become normal to me know. Sometimes I forget I have it. I hope you have a speedy recovery, and be sure to ask your doctor any questions you have. No need to worry about things when you can get info from the doctor. I hope the pacemaker helps you feel better!

Nice to meet another "younger" PM patient. I got my first one when I was 40. I'm due to get "upgraded" to a biventricular PM in two weeks, about 8 years sooner than I expected.

Back on December during lockdown, I was having fun with my friends and I was doing drugs (hard drugs) everything looked normal like the usual parties we used to go to but then I tried a new drug which led me to an OD. Funny thing thing is that hours before that happened I was signing I got so high that I saw Jesus by Noah Cyrus... creepy
I spent New year's eve at the hospital, doctors said everything was okay and I can go home.. I got cleaned and as the months went by everything looked normal until one day during the afternoon out of nowhere I feel the same symptoms when I had the overdose, they rush me to hospital and they tell me I actually do have something wrong with my heart since I was born but it was "activated" thanks to the OD.
I just turned 25 and I feel so sad cause I have Tachycardia (apparently I have something else too) and I'll probably use a pacemaker since my meds are not quite working... its been 4 months since I started this journey and I feel like I lost my self. I don't recognized who I am since I can't do what love anymore.
I used to be very athletic but now I can't swim, I can't go to parties, I can't run, I can't watch horror movies, I can't drink coffee, tea, coca cola and even I can't listen to my favorite music because everything will trigger my Tachycardia.
Now I also suffer from anxiety which I never did. I don't want to die young and I don't want bring this negative energy to the universe but I feel I will die young... I don't blame my friend's nor drugs, it was my decision and I had fund while doing it but now I have to deal with this new/harsh reality. Thanks for reading if you did haha my old self would never write something like this, I just wanted to vent...
Thanks for sharing all of your experience, and sometimes it feels good to vent. It is difficult to hear you have a heart problem at any age, but especially at a young age. I know I was scared and angry about it when I found out. Right now you are feeling normal emotions and with time and help for your doctors, hopefully you can return to doing things you like. I know it can feel hopeless and that you might die soon. I felt like that at first too, but people can live long full lives with pacemakers. If your doctor thinks it will help, don’t be too afraid to get it. Try to think of it as something that can help you. I wish you the best, and let us know how you are doing in the future.

It’s natural to be scared when you have to have surgery on your heart. Trust that the medical staff will do everything they need to for you to be safe during and after surgery. I hope everything goes well and you have a speedy recovery. Thanks for sharing, and let us know how you are doing.

My surgery was crazy. I ended up back in the hospital but I must say that I am doing good and feeling like myself again. Thank you for your support.

I set for surgery October 7 2021 for LYMES disease induced bradycardia fm 2012. I am nervous this will limit me on camping off grid, boondocking. I will have to limit my schedule but hopefully not too much. Thanks for sharing the info in reprogramming of your pacemaker. I have 43 average HR. I will suggest 60, no higher. Thanks again!!🙂
Maybe you should limit your camping during the surgery recovery period, but if things are going well after that, it shouldn’t be too limiting. I only go in for checks about twice a year now. Bring up your concerns with your doctor. Thanks for sharing, and let me know how you are doing after your surgery.

I enjoy watching your video. I had a pacemaker implanted nearly 4 months ago and i am very anxious every time it paces because i feel as if my heart is popping out. Is this something you experienced!
Hi Rita, yes I felt that way at first too. Have you talked with your doctor about it? They may be able to change some settings to make it more comfortable. Also, over time you will become used to it , and hopefully you won’t notice it as much. I hope you are recovering well, best wishes!

I have had 3 pacemakers since 2013 and it sucks! I had the new one since June and I'm hoping that it last.
Hi pferguson1313, So that means you've had a surgery about every two years? That is a lot. Are you using your pacemaker most of the time? Good video, matches my situation to the T. Just had my pacemaker placed on Nov 6th 2023, one day before my 65th birthday. I came to the US from the Philippines where I retired to get the pacemaker. I'm concerned about the check ups over there? I'm staying with family right now.
Hi, I hope you’re healing up well after your surgery. I understand your concern, but with so many people with pacemakers, I’m sure there are doctors who can do the checks. It only requires a laptop and reader that connects wireless to the pacemaker. I hope you are feeling better, and can start to get back to your normal routine. Best wishes!

That's just a few days away. It's natural to be nervous, but know that pacemaker implants are common. It will be over before you know it. Once you recover you will feel better than ever. Dorcas... how are you feeling now. I have been with a PM since Oct 24 and still getting use to it as far as discomfort goes. I was diagnosed with Tacacardia .Other than that I have been enjoying a normal heart beat for the first time in my life. Blessings on your healing.
Thanks for the video! My first pacemaker was inserted while I was in the hospital for heart surgery in October 2020. I had no problems. In July of this year they replaced the leads and gave me a dual chamber model with a defibrillator. Everything was fine for a couple days until I began sitting at the desk. When I leaned forward my diaphragm got stimulated. Is this how it feels when babies kick? So I stopped leaning forward until I could go in and get adjusted. It has been fine ever since. Like you I often forget that I have it.

25 years old here and 20 weeks pregnant and just got my pace maker yesterday. Just in a lot of pain where the muscle is and my left arm 😢 I just want to be okay.
Hi Taylor, sounds like you are going through a lot right now. I bet it has been scary for you, and worried about the baby I’m sure. I hope now that you have your device, and as you continue to recover, you feel better. The pain should get a little better each day, and eventually you won’t even know it’s there. I had a pacemaker fitted a couple of weeks ago but i was given little information so i must do some research.
I hope your recovery is going well. If you come up with questions, just write them down to ask your doctor the next time you’re in the office I also looked on the device manufactures website for information. You have my best wishes and I hope you feel better.
Your video is very interesting can you show where the pacemaker is located and do we make sounds
I show the scar from my surgery in my Pacemaker problems video. They are usually placed on the left side, above the chest muscle and just below the collar bone. Sometimes it is put in other spots depending on the individual circumstances. We don’t make any new noises after the implant, just the same human noises we always made.😀
I’m going to get one in the morning. Wish me luck I’m nervous my drs are great though.

I had mine implanted Dec 13, 2021, in Jan 3, detected one lead of the lower chamber dislodged, second surgery Jan 24, now I am still well aware of the device, pacemaker, stuck on my chest, I can feel the beats if I am rushing. I wonder how do you know which lead is helping you breathe, I was first diagnosed with bradycardia

Hey, my dad is getting a pacemaker on Monday. What was you EF before getting then pacemaker and has it improved since you got it? I will really appreciate your reply
My EF was and is normal. I just had several second pauses late at night while sleeping. That is why I needed the pacemaker. I hope your dad feels better after his surgery.
I have had my pacemaker for 15 months now and I had it lowered to 50 several months ago. It is now going below 50 so I am not sure what they will do now. I still have to keep my arm close to my body because I am slight and not muscular. I definitely feel irritation if I move my arm a lot.

Just saw my doctor to review results of a 48 hour heart monitor. My heart rate got down to 33 BPM. My bottom pressure is in the mid 50's and high on the top. I have been on BP medication for years. He scheduled me for a stress test on Monday and pacemaker implant the following week. I am 66 years old and nervous about getting this done. I had a dual port implanted several years ago for chemo treatments and it was very uncomfortable and I was very glad to have it removed when I finished my treatments. Any advise?
It is a scary to hear that you have heart problems and need a pacemaker. It is natural to have all kinds of emotions. The way I started to look at it was, “well at least something can be done to help.” After your surgery you will have a backup for your heart. Instead of dropping too low it will keep your heart beating like you need. The implant area will be sensitive at first, but after the recovery period, it should not be too noticeable. After my implant surgery, it was sensitive to bumps with in the car, and even brisk walking. Each week it felt a little better, and now I have no discomfort at all. I forget I have it most of the time, it’s not on my mind anymore. For now, trust that the doctors and nurses will do everything they can for a successful implant, and that it will help you. I’m happy to live at a time where medical science can help. Let me know if you have other questions, and let me know how you are doing. Best wishes!
What made you use it less now at night. Is it because you lowered the HR at lower? Has exercise helped.
It is because my heart rate slowed when I’m in my deepest sleep. I also am treating sleep apnea which helps. I have been exercising, but not sure if that effects my pacing. Hope it it helping overall health though 🙂thanks for watching and commenting!

My heart is nutty with AF or flutter .. I probally need one. My concern once you havd can I travel out of the country for long periods?
I have not traveled internationally since getting the pacemaker. However, my doctor says I have no restrictions. I have taken vacations and I was nervous at first to be far from the doctor, but it was fine. Many devices are sold internationally and you may be able to have it checked in other countries. If you need one, talk to your doctor and choose the best one for you. Best of luck, and thanks for watching.
This was 5 years ago at 1 year. I'm the same 1 year and 3% triggering. Also thinking I don't need pacemaker but for me because I think the data is incorrect.. It's set at 30 bpm. However Zion monitor for 2 weeks showed Zero trigering
Hi Cyborg, thanks for sharing your experience. I was wondering if you can comment on the possibility of doing pull-ups again after pacemaker implant, provided the patient is conditioned for it. Do you think the Dr. would advise against it?
Hi Mannington,
I think pull-ups would be fine. I havn't tried myself, but I have lifted heavy equipment at work over my head without any problems. After the recovery period you should be able to do all physical activity you did before. It may take a while for all the discomfort to go away, but after it heals you probably won't even notice it. My doctor told me I had no restrictions on physical activity and working out. I didn't specifically ask about pull-ups, but I can't think of any reason the doctor would say not to do them. The only thing the doctor told me to do is stay away from very strong magnetic fields. Let me know if you have any other questions I might be able to answer.

All the reading material I've read says pull ups, push ups, sit ups, anything that makes you hold your breath is a no no if you have a pacemaker.
Please check with your doctor, and your device manufacturer about what you shouldn’t do. It is probably not a very long list. I was told no restrictions on exercise, and holding your breath never came up, but ask your doctor to be sure.
Did something go wrong with me if I didn't see a doctor after getting a pacemaker did I didn't need
My pacemaker has been working fine, but I'll be going in for catheterization on Nov 4, 2022. I've already got 7 stents, so I may need bypass work this time. If all goes well, I'll post again.

My DAD JUST had PACEMAKER SURGERY on May 3rd 2021..he was feeling so GREAT NO PAIN. ON the 3rd day morning of the May 5th he had PAIN EARLY that MORNING...I feel that the ANESTHESIA had worn off from the CUT in the CHEST and the PULLING BACK of the SKIN..He took IBUPROFEN for pain and slept. He feeling MUCH BETTER NOW. I HOPE TODAY IS THE WORST HE'S GOING TO FEEL. I WILL BE MONTERING HIM. ANY SUGGESTIONS?
It will take a few weeks for the area to heal, and it could be sensitive for months. I hope he can take it easy, and not do any strenuous tasks. If he is in pain you can contact his doctor to see what they say. They should be able to help. Thanks for watching and for your question. I hope he feels better soon!

When you are in a deep sleep and the Pacemaker activates, does it actually wake you up from sleep?

Hello, I’m 18 years old and I just got my pacemaker and I had it maybe for like 6 months and I always feel my heartbeats and it’s really uncomfortable! Did you have the same problem and if so did it go away with time ?
Hi, when I first got my pacemaker I was always focused on what my heart was doing, so I noticed everything. Over time I would get distracted or occupied with other things, and not notice my heart beat. After a year or so it became so normal to me, I don’t think about it too often. For you it might be shorter or longer, and depending on your device settings. If it is bothering you, I would bring it up at your next doctor visit. Mine really bothered me too until I got in with a good cardiologist that ‘tweeked’ it right. It felt like it was pounding majority of the time. I’m 8 years out now & still have problems , but heart problems run strong in family. Best of luck 🙏

My father is 51yr . He is second degree 2:1 av block . Doctor had done pacemaker surgery . Will he live a normal life after surgery

Hello, that heart rate seems to be a little low, but different people can have lower resting heart rates and be fine. You should ask a doctor about it since it is a concern for you. Hi, I had to wait 6 weeks before lifting anything more than 10 pounds, but check with your doctor to make sure. I did pick things up earlier, but only with my right hand.

Can you lift like normal with a pacemaker? Even working chest? I am not interested in lifting heavily in my upper body but I just want to know if you could work chest normally?

@@CyborgVlog Yeah, I am just at the end of my first week after leaving the hospital and they said no exercise of any kind for six weeks, but as long as I know that I can work my chest and back normally, which another video says that I can, than that makes me happy. Don't want to lose what I have built up after all of these years you know?

Well I have a few thoughts. The doctor can't force you to show up at the hospital. As long as you are able to make sound medical decisions for yourself, I don't think a doctor will force you to get it. With that said, the doctor has a good reason to tell you to get it. If you don't feel comfortable with that doctor, call another for a second opinion. That's what I did. The second doctor did a better job of explaining why it was necessary. It is natural to be wonder if you really need it, I took a few days to get my head around the idea. When the news is fresh, it can be overwhelming. I hope that answer helps a little, best of luck to you.

@@juannieto1987, for me the negative impact of having the device were minimal. Worrying about metal detectors at airports, not lifting heavy things right after surgery. After the recover period, I really have nothing in my day to day life that I have to limit or change. I actually feel better having it, knowing my heart has a battery backup, so I wake up each morning.
