Cheetah are definitely my favorite big cat, not only are they the fastest land animal alive but their personality/instincts are unique. They don’t have that auto kill drive when you aren’t looking at them, they honestly act a bit like wolves in the way they run down their prey.
In number 2 video the way this man talks about cheetahs as if what he is seeing is truly amazing, that would be my reaction as well. Who is he if anyone knows of him having some other videos? He was awed and really easy to listen to about the cheetahs bc of his true enthusiasm about them.
I get so excited watching a cheetah run. Gets up to 60 mph in 3 seconds and maintains for a minute +. Meanwhile I get winded walking to the front door from the couch ahahaha. Magnificent animal. And they have such swag too lol. How on earth does the cameraman keep up with her?!
Hissing like a domestic cat at 11:44 😭💛 makes sense, they’re far more closely related to domestic cats than lions and leopards-but we know the damage a house cat can do 😂 so I’m just glad the human caretakers have a good relationship with the cheetahs because even though they’re not heavyweights like their larger cousins, they’re still incredibly powerful animals. Even knowing all this, there’s still a part of me that goes “KITTY!!! 💕”
The cheetah would be an “appropriate exotic pet” in the sense they… I actually can’t word it correctly so I’m going to stop. But the reason they’re not acceptable as an exotic pet is because the enrichment they need is very large. A cheetah needs to run. So unless you have acres and acres and acres and acres and acres of land, among other important enrichment needs , the cheetah is not an appropriate exotic pet. I mean… I’d feel safer owning a cheetah over a lion or leopard obv, but at the end of the day… if I had a piece of meat marinating on the counter and my entitled domestic house cat jumped on the counter I have no hesitation shoving her off but if it were a cheetah, Id give it the damn dinner plate , that’s her steak now.
And I say appropriate in the way vs a lion or tiger which is considered not an appropriate exotic pet. To me, I don’t consider any of these animals being an exotic pet, but just wanted to clarify. Also ostrich’s have eyes the size of golf balls and are considered watch towers in the wild.
They are incredibly beautiful and graceful. ❤ Thanks to all the photographers who get these wonderful photos and share them with us. We appreciate all the effort they put into capturing just the right angle, light and that's about all I know of photography. I feel all Cheetahs are magnificent.
Especially those long black lines on their faces to protect against the sun. I think that's why football players have black lines under their eyes when playing outside
Likewise, I also idolize caracals not just for their incredible jumping skills but also their familiar appearnce to domestic cats and their cuteness and beauty and long ears. Animal species have so much more to offer. @@Ze_Moose
I do not know why (other than the sheer beauty and grace of these big cats) but Cheetahs have been my favorite animal since I was 9 and I'm 54 now. They are just incredible to watch and this is the best video of them I've ever seen. In all honesty I have also been a cat guy for my whole adult life. Great job and thanks for taking the time!
Magnificent species. Sir David. Many more people who had involved in resurrecting, documenting done so much to bring the footages for us specifically the last 25 years or so!
My cat play bites me. Sometimes she gets too wild and I end up bloody. It’s still cool only because she’s small. No way a cheetah play bite would be harmless.
As a kid growing up in Nairobi, Kenya; I remember watching Big Cat Diary with my older sister & grandparents specifically as they liked wildlife documentaries just as much as I did. It was definitely one of my favourites when I was younger & watching some of the Big Cat Diary clips here definitely brought up some nostalgic memories of my childhood.
Good Times... Little Totos death always made me cry... And when the unexperienced guy who was going to tranquilice the famous cheetah they been following for years... And landed a wrong hit and killed her... :'( I remember one of the camera team crying of saddens probably feeling guilty...
Regarding the first clip: Cheetahs are highly specialized but they are also highly intelligent animals. This gives them an adaptibility that I don't think other big cats have.
Little fun fact: Despite not being the strongest of the big cats, cheetahs still have a hunting success rate of up to 58%. This is higher than lions, tigers, leopards and jaguars.
Jaguars don’t have a higher success rate, but it is easier for them to find prey than a cheetah because of what they hunt, prolly what your thinking of
Cheetahs are the weakest big cats. They are fast but fragile. it is mentioned in one of these videos. they mostly depend on their speed for hunting and saving their own life at the same time. If you look at their body they slim and slender almost like a super model. they dont have muscles, strenght and weight. They only hunt small preys. Other cats can hunt anything. For instance, Lions hunt everything including elephants and Rhinos.
They are the best. Paws like a dog, everything else like a cat. So it looks and smells like a cat, it purrrrrs like a cat, but it doesn't scratch you like a cat... no claws but nails.
I've had dreams of being a cheetah and cat or dog because I was always so fascinated with animals. However, each scenario was in a super weird environment (for the dreams) lol
I just went to the zoo yesterday, and a cheetah was sitting right up against the glass so I was (technically) able to get within less than a foot of the cat, which is really cool because I’ve never been that close to a cheetah before 👍

The cheetah is the most elegant, powerful, beautiful cat with a wonderful disposition as wild animals go. My favourite in all the animal kingdom. (The least likable animal: the hyena. )
If more cheetahs learned to hunt in packs they could really dominate the savannah! Not only would it help them bring down larger prey, but it could also help them defend their meal from other animals like hyenas and lions who often steal it from them because the cheetahs aren't strong enough to defend themselves.
Male coalitions hunt together, enabling them to go after bigger prey. Even if cheetahs formed a “pack” as you say, they still wouldn’t be a match for hyenas and lions. They are fragile and have sacrificed a lot for their speed. Even a group of them wouldn’t risk taking on lions and hyenas. It would be a disaster for them to even try.
Only males, almost always brothers, form coalitions to tackle large prey. Females largely are intolerant of each other BECAUSE they're so specialized to hunt smaller prey. Females want to raise THEIR cubs, and small prey like a gazelle won't feed two or three separate litters. Further still, the females can't risk injury hunting prey like ostriches in groups, for the same reasons stated in the clip where the males hunted one: If one is injured, the others can't take down that prey anymore. The risk isn't worth the reward, so it's easier for an already specialized predator to simply provide for her offspring with their typical prey. This is also probably why males don't stay with females: Their typical prey doesn't feed enough for mom, dad, AND all the kids.
@@Dinoman9877 Good point. Also, other predators already occupy the other niche, so they'd come in even more conflicts if they started going after more of the same prey.
That Cheetah chase is one of the most beautiful thing ever captured from wild. It is for us to be in awe of wild.

It’s pretty incredible how fast the cheetah is. Imagine driving on a highway at 60 mph and a cheetah kept up.
yeah and it did in less than 3 seconds, that's amazing.
That would have to be one really hardy cheetah since normal cheetahs can hold that speed for seconds before having to stop.
I used to imagine it as a child running alongside my car jumping over people mailboxes but then I was obsess with them as a little girl

Among the big cats I have a soft spot for cheetahs. They run fast, work hard to catch a prey and yet are the most vulnerable.
