Strumpshaw Steam Engine Rally - May 2024

Today I took a day off from my studies and we went to the Strumpshaw steam engine rally. It was a wet day which restricted the activities but it was still a fun day out. Last year the weather was very hot and dry for the event. I am pleased we took the Land Rover as the car park was a mud bath.

Rain or shine, you'd have to drag me out of there! great stuff. I love all this old equipment. The large flywheel and crank reminds me of the triple-expansion steam engine on H.M.C.S. Sackville, a Canadian Flower Class corvette, that is now a permanent memorial in Halifax, NS. When they were restoring her in the 80s, I was in the Navy and was assigned to supervise work crews who chipped paint and helped restore the engine spaces. Very cool tour of this show! Thanks

Sad about the rain. Nice 60/61 chev car there. Be challenging to drive that on some of the narrow roads😳. Seems very still. No wind. Nice music, I hear that on another English Channel I watch.

Despite the rain it was a good event. We see a few big old American cars at these type of events and I think you are right, it would be a challenge on some of our roads. The studies are going good thanks, more than half way through now. Take care

Lots of stationary engines but it is our fault that they were not on the video, sorry. We bumped into someone we know at the stationary engines and we forgot to film while we were catching up with him. We will do better at the next show, take care
